As a brighter spotlight is being put on Disney’s role as a content supplier and distributor amid labor disputes, a federal judge has ruled that the entertainment monolith must face an antitrust lawsuit accusing it of illegally taking advantage of its dual position in business dealings.
The proposed class action took aim at Disney’s ownership of Hulu, the country’s second-largest live-streaming pay TV provider, and ESPN, cable’s most expensive channel controlled by Disney that’s widely regarded as the driver of price hikes for consumers over the past decade. A federal judge on Saturday found that company must face allegations that it manages the businesses as a single entity, with the aim of negotiating anti-competitive agreements with rivals that have inflated the cost of live TV streamed over the internet.

Even us incredible journalists make mistakes. Some just happen to be bigger than others.
In the trailer for Apple TV+ limited series “Truth Be Told,” podcaster and former newspaper reporter Poppy Parnell (Octavia Spencer) comes to grips with the fact that her old articles may have assisted in the conviction of an innocent man, Warren Cave (Aaron Paul), of murder.
“I am for truth, no matter who tells it. I am for justice, no matter who it’s for — or against,” Poppy opens the trailer, which Apple released on Thursday.
In the limited series, Parnell comes face to face with Cave, whom she helped convince the public was a “privileged psychopath,” as he tells her.
“The people will get their show,” Paul’s incarcerated character promises Spencer’s free woman.

The Good Wife, Season 6, Episode 17: “Undisclosed Recipients”
Written by Leonard Dick
Directed by James Whitmore, Jr.
Airs Sundays at 9pm Et on CBS
Remember Eli Gold? Oh, sure, Alan Cumming has been one of the few series-long mainstays not named Alicia on The Good Wife, but Eli has been so one-note for so long that he’s become very easy to take for granted. One of the things that makes “Undisclosed Recipients” one of the most enjoyable episodes of this season’s spotty back half is that it reminds us what made him such an entertaining character in the first place: his sheer, hateful disdain for people who behave incorrectly. After Alicia (drunk with power!) opens the episode by pissing off some of her biggest contributors and key associates (Lemond Bishop, Ed Asner’s Guy Redmayne, and outgoing S.A. Castro), Eli tells her what’s what. The trick,...

The Writers Guild of America announced the TV nominees for the 2015 WGA Awards on Thursday (December 4) morning and several new shows broke into the fields in a big way. And, of course, there were a number of big WGA Award nomination head-scratchers. Specifically, where the heck was FX's "Fargo"? The answer is below. Making perhaps the biggest splash was "Transparent," which earned three nominations and, since "Orange Is The New Black" earned two nods and "House of Cards" pick up one, that meant that Amazon Prime and Netflix are, at least for one award-giving organization, on equal footing as creators of original programming. The Jill Soloway-created "Transparent" is nominated for New Series, where it will go against "The Affair," "The Knick," "Silicon Valley" and "True Detective." "Transparent" and "Silicon Valley" are also up for Comedy Series, going against "Louie," "Veep" and "Orange Is The New Black." Lest you panic...

The Good Wife, Season 6, Episode 6: “Old Spice”
Written by Leonard Dick
Directed by James Whitmore, Jr.
Airs Sundays at 9pm on CBS
For all of the huge life changes Alicia Florrick has had to endure over the course of The Good Wife’s five-and-change seasons, one character trait has always remained: her atheism. Alicia has never had the inclination towards belief in a higher power – at least, not one beyond the earthly plane. If anything, the years have made her ever more ruthlessly pragmatic as a matter of necessity. Her work and interpersonal relationships have been so toxic for so long that the notion of a loving, interventionist man upstairs has never been an option for her. Though many fans have long complained of the subplots given to Grace, Alicia’s pious daughter, their relationship proves to be the most fascinating aspect of “Old Spice,” an odd and somewhat...

The Good Wife Season 5, Episode 14: “A Few Words”
Written By Leonard Dick
Directed By Rosemary Rodriguez
Airs Sundays at 9 pm (Est) on CBS
Everything that really happens in “A Few Words” happens in the quiet spaces, in silent moments of contemplation, in missed connections and quiet epiphanies. This is an episode set in the space between, with all of the characters out of their element in New York City, angling to land rainmaker Rayna Hecht (Jill Hennessy) while navigating the Aba conference where Alicia is slated to give the keynote address. There’s no case-of-the-week here; in fact, the only law we really see is pending. Everyone is taken out of their element, out of their comfort zone, and left to contend with themselves. Perhaps that’s why there’s so much drinking going on this week.

2012 Writers Guild Award Nominations
The 2012 Writers Guild Award nominations were announced yesterday and as with the Emmys cable led the drama categories. Previous nominees Boardwalk Empire and Breaking Bad and new series Homeland all racked up 3 nominations in the drama field. The Good Wife is the only network drama featuring in the Drama Series category, with Dexter getting the other slot and sadly Friday Night Lights missed out.
If you're wondering where Mad Men is; the field of eligibility for these awards runs from December, 1 2010 until November 30, 2011. This makes the Writers Guild Awards similar to the Golden Globes rather than the Emmys regarding the submission time frame. The last new episode of Mad Men aired in October 2010 so it can't be included; yes it has been more than a year since there was new episode of Mad Men.
Network fared much better in the comedy front with Emmy success Modern Family...

Cleverly providing impetus for Alicia to delve more deeply into her own feelings about fidelity, the “Getting Off” episode focuses on a civil suit against the owner of an adultery website. The firm represents defendant Stephanie Engler (Sarah Silverman, in a surprisingly strong performance) while nattering, faux-naïf Nancy Crozier (Mamie Gummer) returns to represent the wife of a man murdered during an encounter on the site.

Do we do things for the right or wrong reasons? When you cut beneath the surface, are all the "right" reasons really wrong? I've been raving about CBS' gripping and intelligent series The Good Wife all season long, and hopefully the praise has rubbed off on those who wouldn't normally tune into a legal drama. But The Good Wife is no mere episodic courtroom potboiler: it's a canny and critical arbiter of society and technology, a stirring and often emotional exploration of family and morals in the media age, a portrait of working women, and a romance- and intrigue-laden drama that manages to stir both your heart and your mind on a weekly basis. Tonight's episode of The Good Wife ("Great Firewall"), written by creators Robert King and Michelle King (with a story by Leonard Dick) and directed by Nelson McCormick, ranks up there with some of the very best...
