How far will you go to deny your identity in order to be a somebody? What happens when you make a deal with a devil whom you might normally despise, but has transfixed much of an entire nation’s population? And how long can you will yourself to ignore evidence of the intolerable? These are just a few of the questions raised — sometimes with allusive finesse, sometimes with blunt-force impact — during “The Performance,” an enthralling period drama with often disquieting contemporary relevance.
If you have roamed through this cinematic territory before, you may discern in Shira Piven’s exceptional film traces of “Cabaret,” “Mephisto” and other tales of ambitious entertainers striving for the spotlight as Adolf Hitler’s shadow spreads over 1930s Germany. But this largely faithful adaptation and intelligent expansion of a 2002 short story by Arthur Miller ultimately stands on its own merits as both vivid historical recreation and riveting cautionary fable,...

Taking a positive look at visual impairment, rather than focusing on it as a disability, “Coyote Ugly” star Adam Garcia joins producer and actor Tsu Shan Chambers in the lead roles of “My Eyes,” a drama film now shooting in Melbourne, Australia.
When optometrist Alana discovers her daughter has a rare inherited eye disease, she must look into her past to realize her vision for the future. She discovers that a judo athlete with a visual impairment halfway across the world may hold the answers she seeks. But old truths make the task of saving her daughter’s sight an uncomfortable and marriage-threatening mission.
Joining Garcia and Chanbers in the cast are gold medal Judo champion Eduardo Ávila Sánchez and young newcomer Nia Rush.
The story was inspired by incidents that emerged during Chambers time as an optometry student and while volunteering at the 2000 Paralympic Games.

Starz has unveiled the trailer for the upcoming historical drama “The Serpent Queen” starring Samantha Morton as Catherine de Medici. The wicked new drama series will premiere on Sunday, September 11th.
A historical drama with an edge, “The Serpent Queen” puts a contemporary spin on conventional storytelling to tell the tale of Catherine de Medici’s (Morton) rise to power. In the series premiere, “Medici Bitch,” Catherine’s tale unfolds through flashbacks as she defends her actions and imparts the lessons she’s learned to her new servant confident, Rahima. At 14, the young, orphaned Catherine marries into the 16th-century French court. Despite her commoner status, her uncle Pope Clement, has negotiated a large dowry and a geopolitical alliance in return for the union, and with it comes the expectation of many heirs. However, on her wedding night, Catherine learns that her new husband is in love with Diane de Poitiers,...

"You have a whole world out there and you are missing it!" Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for a quirky comedy called Afterlife of the Party, featuring Victoria Justice as a "party planner and social butterfly" who heads to the afterlife after a birthday accident. Most surprisingly, this is a new film directed by the director of such classics as Critters, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead, The Mighty Ducks, The Three Musketeers, and Mr. Holland's Opus. Though he hasn't made much of a mark in the last decade. After finding herself in the afterlife, Cassie is given a second chance to right her wrongs on Earth within five days by reconnecting with loved ones, and most importantly, prove she's worthy enough to get into the big VIP room in the sky. Justice stars with Midori Francis, Robyn Scott, Adam Garcia, Timothy Renouf, Gloria Garcia,...

Zombie horror has always adhered to certain tropes, but here’s why these tropes are going to have to change.
“At the core of every book, video game, television series, or movie involving a zombie apocalypse is an idea about humanity’s drive to consume, or how easy it would be for civilizations to crumble in the midst of an unforeseen disaster. Like, for instance, the sudden spread of a deadly virus that swept its way across the entire globe within a matter of weeks.”

Andrew Lincoln, star of The Walking Dead, still has not watched The Walking Dead.

A 27-year-old Tyra Banks was elated when she landed the role of Zoe, the no-nonsense bartender in “Coyote Ugly.” Although there weren’t high expectations for the movie, which starred a cast of mostly unknowns who play rowdy dancers at a seedy bar, the movie became a sleeper summer hit for Touchstone Pictures, grossing $60 million domestically on a $45 million budget. The female-led cast — including Piper Perabo — were featured on billboards and posters and the soundtrack went multi-platinum, with the help of LeAnn Rimes and songwriter Diane Warren.
Now, Banks tells Variety that she’s been lobbying for years for a sequel. “I’ve had a passion to do a sequel to ‘Coyote Ugly’ for some time now. I’ve even reached out to [producer] Jerry Bruckheimer and the team and the original writer and they’ve had some jam sessions on what it could possibly be,” Banks says. “I feel like...

Got to Dance has been cancelled by Sky1.
The channel said that it feels like "the natural time for the series to take its bow" after five years on air.
Diversity's Ashley Banjo, Adam Garcia and Kimberly Wyatt served as judges on the show, with Jls singer Aston Merrygold temporarily taking Garcia's spot on the 2013 series.
Adam MacDonald, Director of Sky1, said: "Got to Dance has been a defining show for Sky1 of which we are very proud. However, now feels the natural time for the series to take its bow.
"I'd like to thank our contestants, the fantastic production team, Davina McCall for being such a tremendous host and our judging panel - Ashley Banjo, Kimberly Wyatt and Adam Garcia - who brought unparalleled levels of dance talent and expertise to the television talent show."
The most recent series of Got to Dance concluded in August, with Garcia's act Duplic8 announced as winners.

Duplic8 have been named Got to Dance 2014 champions.
26-year-old Tobias Mead and his dance partner, 13-year-old Jak Tuite-Leach, beat Dance Illusion and Bitter Harvest to the crown in the live final this evening (August 29).
The street dancers were the last of the finalists to take to the Earls Court stage and had received some strong criticism from judges Kimberly Wyatt and Ashley Banjo earlier on.
In contrast to the two red stars they were previously awarded, the pair's mentor Adam Garcia told them that he had "believed in them from the start" following their individual performance.
As well as the 2014 title, Mead - who made it to the final of Britain's Got Talent as a soloist in 2010 - and Tuite-Leach will share a total of £250,000 in prize money.
"Sharing it with little Jak, it's magical," said Mead after the result was announced. "You have no idea. I'm so grateful!"

USA Network’s Summer Camp is a reality series pitting two teams of eight against each other in a “boys vs. girls” competition. Each of the contestants is identified by either a character trait (“The Mean Girl”, “The Class Clown”) or an occupation (“The Soldier”, “The Model”). Gay contestant Kyle Kleiboeker is “The Broadway Performer” so it kind of works as both, I guess?

Exclusive: After a decade, Tom Drumm has parted ways with Peter Safran. He is forming Think Tank Management and Production, a new shingle where he’ll rep clients and hatch movies and TV. When Safran left Brillstein-Grey to form The Safran Company in 2006, Drumm followed him. “Peter has been an amazing mentor, and he has given me a great head start in building my business, and creating my own company,” Drumm said. “I look forward to continuing to work with him as a producer,” said Drumm. Safran produced five films last year, including the James Wan-directed The Conjuring, the Paul Walker-starrer Hours, and the Mark Strong-starrer Mindscape. Drumm’s clients Guy Holmes wrote the script, and Jorge Dorado directed it. “It has been a pleasure working closely with Tom over the past decade and I look forward continuing to collaborate with him in the future,” Safran said.

Aston Merrygold has officially joined Sky1's Got To Dance, replacing Adam Garcia on the panel. The star of X Factor-spawned Jls, 24, will use his knowledge of choreography to judge the upcoming fourth run of the talent show.
