Throughout their messy and prolonged courtship, "Bones" couple Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and FBI agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) played their fair share of romantic musical chairs. They both tested the waters of a workplace relationship fairly early on in the show's run, with Brennan hopping into bed with Booth's FBI colleague Tim "Sully" Sullivan (Eddie McClintock) -- and causing a bit of a ruckus among Fox's censors -- in season 2. This was around the same time that Booth restarted his own amorous association with the then-newly-appointed boss of the Jeffersonian Institute's forensic division, Camille "Cam" Saroyan (Tamara Taylor).
As the saying goes, if you can't be with the one you love, hook up with the one who will abruptly vanish in a few episodes (unless they become a fan favorite like Cam).

Peaky Blinders producer Caryn Mandabach Productions (Cmp) is developing a historical drama series with End of the F***ing World director Jonathan Entwistle.
Civil Blood will be set in 17th century England, following the adventures of a young woman growing up in a time of war. The show is in the latter stages of development, according to Cmp.

As portrayed by Donald Sutherland in the original “Hunger Games” film trilogy 10 years ago, President Coriolanus Snow is about as fearsomely wretched as villains come — a heartless, dystopian dictator who stops at nothing to keep the haves empowered above the have-nots.
As portrayed by 28-year-old British actor Tom Blyth in director Francis Lawrence’s new prequel feature, “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” Snow is a Capitol teen forced to reluctantly exist in a world where violence is a means of survival — full of heart but little grit, measured book smarts but sheltered naivety.
It’s after meeting a tribute at the 10th Hunger Games, a singer from the lower districts named Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), that the young Coriolanus must decide whether to push back on the pillars of fatal inequities that keep the world he knows intact, or to embrace them for the dangling...

Billy the Kid will be back on TV screens very soon.
MGM+ this week that Billy the Kid Season 2 will debut on Sunday, October 15, at 9 p.m. Et/Pt.
There is a little bit of a catch:
Four episodes of the season will air this year, with the final four being held until 2024.
A reason for the decision has not been revealed, but there's a good chance it has something to do with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

In this crazy age of prestige, period-set TV, it can be difficult to remember all the genuine gems that came before. One of those aforementioned winners came in the form of "Vikings," a History Channel series that charted the rise of the legendary Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) and his dynastic family line. The series had its ups and downs, to be sure, but it became a bona fide phenomenon with a loyal, vocal fanbase in a short amount of time. With six seasons and even a sequel series under its belt, it'd be easy to assume that "Vikings" was a guaranteed hit from the very beginning. But back when creator and showrunner Michael Hirst first pitched the show in the 2010s, the success of "Vikings" was far from a sure thing.
Hirst spoke to Collider all about "Vikings" in 2021, where he admitted that, though he had a sort of tentative plan for the overarching story,...

Vikings: Valhalla is a series created by Michael Hirst and Jeb Stuart starring Sam Corlett, Laura Berlin and Bradley Freegard among others.
Today we get to see the second season of Vikings: Valhalla, a series that has known how to collect all of the essence of the preceeding series and transform it into something that is even better and richer. It knows how to make good use of all the film achievements of Vkings, but recreating the impact of the violence and extracting to advantage its barbaric and devastating essence.
This is a prequel that combines history and action, which taken to the most spectacular, has known how to reach millions of viewers with this subtle combination that works so well for some and leaving the sticklers for history rather unsatisfied.
A good, really good second season that continues the rhythm and speeds it up delivering more with regards to the first season.

“Vikings: Valhalla” returns with its second season Jan. 12, but Variety has the exclusive first look at the “Vikings” prequel’s Season 2 trailer to tide fans over for another month.
Based on the History Channel series “Vikings” created by Michael Hirst, “Vikings: Valhalla” is set over a thousand years ago in the early 11th century and chronicles the heroic adventures of some of the most famous Vikings who ever lived — the legendary explorer Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), his fiery and headstrong sister Freydis Eriksdotter (Frida Gustavsson) and the ambitious Nordic prince Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter).
The second season, which consists of eight episodes running 49 minutes each, finds our heroes shortly after the tragic fall of Kattegat; an event that has shattered their dreams and altered their destinies, per Netflix’s official description. Finding themselves suddenly fugitives in Scandinavia they are forced to test their ambitions and courage in worlds beyond the fjords of Kattegat.

The success of a show like "Game of Thrones" is as much a blessing as it is a curse. The series broke incredible ground before its less-than-satisfying final season — but even its controversies and failures seemed to stem viral discourse. It was the world's watercooler show for nearly a decade, and it absolutely changed the face of television. Unfortunately, it also altered the way that we at home watch television now — especially if said television dwells in the niche of high fantasy or historical fiction.
The "gritty" left-of-center shows that followed "Game of Thrones" have also, inevitably, been subjected to the "Game of Thrones" effect. We see two characters plotting their political moves and immediately draw comparisons to the schemes and trysts in King's Landing. A group of characters are brutally wiped off the board after doing too much, too soon? The writers must have taken a page from David Benioff and D.B. Weiss,...

Making its debut on History back in 2013, "Vikings" delivered a visceral, bone-crunching journey to the eighth-century Scandinavia and the age of the Vikings. The gritty, violent saga told the story of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), a farmer who became a warrior and, ultimately, a king. Another part of the series' ongoing storylines involved his first wife, the shieldmaiden Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), their son Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig), and various other characters who were introduced over the course of the show's six seasons.
As "Vikings" creator Michael Hirst explained to Looper, the writer enlisted a Viking historian to explore some of the most notable figures from that era. He wound up honing in on Ragnar because he was "the first great Viking leader to emerge from the myth and legend, and that was perfect in many ways because it was the beginning of the Viking age." While the series concluded in 2021, fans...

The streaming service has confirmed the action series will run for three eight-episode seasons. The first season debuted in February 2022, and season two wrapped up production in early 2022. Netflix didn’t announce a premiere date but did tease that the new season will arrive in 2023.

Germany’s Beta Group is backing a trio of new awards, each with a substantial cash bursary, to entice feature film directors to try out the world of serial television.
Beta will sponsor two awards, each with a 52,600 (50,000 euro) bursary, to back selected TV pitches from established feature directors. They are also getting behind a new emerging talent award, which comes with a 21,000 (20,000 euro) bursary, paid for by the Kirch Foundation, a nonprofit group set up by the late German media mogul Leo Kirch to support projects in film, television and the visual arts.
The three awards will be presented as part of the SeriesMakers program, an initiative launched by Beta and television festival Series Mania. The objective of SeriesMakers is to support talent in the transition to television series production by matching up directors and scriptwriters with showrunners, producers and other behind-the-camera veterans.

“When I was a kid myself, growing up in in the north of England, for some reason I was fixated on Billy,” reveals series creator Michael Hirst (“Vikings”) in our recent webchat. He continues, “When I was running to school, as a seven or eight year old boy, I imagined that I was riding a great horse and being pursued by the sheriff’s posse. I was Billy the Kid. The head of Epix, Michael Wright, asked me what I would like to do after ‘Vikings.’ I said, ‘curiously enough I’d like to do a Western. I’d like to do ‘Billy the Kid. I’d like to find out if he was worth hero worshiping.’” Watch the exclusive video interview above.

Our hearts have been stolen by the legendary Old West gunslinger. It’s no surprise to Tom Blyth (above), the captivating newcomer who plays him in this moody, nuanced drama from Vikings creator Michael Hirst. “He was witty, magnetic, read Shakespeare. The history books talk about how people couldn’t help but like him, even when he was doing bad things,” Blyth says. In May 8’s third installment, the teen Billy McCarty takes his first step down an outlaw path. The son of Irish immigrants has faced destitution and death in the family’s move west. Now a new loss brings devastating grief, and a violent showdown with his abusive stepfather (Jamie Beamish), a fraudster and philanderer, leaves Billy the “man of the house.” When his attempt to earn an honest living is thwarted by frontier society corruption, broke Billy lets his poker buddy, older criminal firecracker Jesse Evans (Daniel Webber...

Billy the Kid, the moody new drama from Vikings creator Michael Hirst, digs deep into the life of 19th Century cowboy and gunslinger Billy the Kid (Tom Blyth), painting a nuanced portrait of the notorious outlaw. There’s plenty of Old West action in the Epix series, but we also see Billy reading from Walt Whitman’s Song of Myself; and caring for his loving mother (Eileen O’Higgins). It’s clear that the brutal frontier environment — and endless grief and deep poverty it brought his family — transformed Billy from the innocent son of Irish immigrants to a legendary criminal. “We think we know him as this sociopathic murderer who was good on a gun and good with a horse. But he’s someone who’s been hardened day after day by constant loss,” says Blyth, who connected with his character by taking a road trip through Billy’s old stomping grounds.

The 7th MipDrama ended on Sunday with German series “House of Promises” named as the winner of the Buyers’ Coup de Coeur Award. While the showcase received mixed reactions from the participants, gathered onsite in Cannes – with only Italy’s “Bangla” opting for a more humorous approach – the event marked a win for Finland’s Elisa Viihde, presenting “Evilside,” “Summer of Sorrow” and “The Invicibles” (with Viaplay also attached.)

Frida Gustavsson has walked the runway for the likes of Valentino, Chanel, Lanvin, Carolina Herrera, Fendi, Oscar de la Renta, Versace, Christian Dior and has even donned a pair of wings for Victoria’s Secret. However, her most revealing walk in recent years, she told Variety, was a runestone walk she took with her father in her native Swedish hometown to do some extracurricular research for her leading role as Freydís Eiríksdóttir in “Vikings: Valhalla.”
“I went for a runestone walk with my father, who is a history buff. The Vikings left all of these wonderful runestones — they had erected stones with carved letters in the Elder Futhark alphabet, which is the 1000-year-old alphabet from Sweden,” she explained to Variety. “They are little remnants of a time long gone, but they are still scattered all over the area where I live and tell little messages of what it was like to...

Ukrainian filmmaker Julia Sinkevych, this year’s Series Mania Jury President, has spotlighted the strange juxtaposition of spending weeks helping with the war relief effort in her home country before flying to Lille for days of screenings, parties and dinners.
The Ukrainian Film Academy Co-Founder returns home this weekend after the prestigious European drama forum’s closing ceremony, which will crown a winner in the International Competition, at which point she will go back to helping with medical supplies, arranging transportation and supporting local filmmakers.
Lucky Girl, the film she is producing, was in the final touches of post-production when the Russian invasion stopped the Ukrainian creative industry in its tracks and Sinkevych initially thought she wouldn’t be able to make the trip to Series Mania when she was handed the presidency in what was a beautiful show of solidarity.
“This is a different life,” Sinkevych told Deadline during this week’s event.

The Tudors and Vikings creator Michael Hirst has branded his upcoming big budget Billy the Kid drama a “new kind of western.”
Delivering a keynote as Series Mania closed for the day, the revered British historical film and TV director described Epix/MGM’s project, which is being handed its world premiere in the Series Mania International Competition, as a “pre-Western that starts just before the West we’ve seen before.”
The epic romantic adventure charts Billy’s life from his humble Irish roots and early days as a cowboy and gunslinger in the American frontier, to his pivotal role in the Lincoln County War and beyond.
Hirst described the show as “more intimate, lean, lyrical and character-driven” than his previous work, which has included Showtime’s The Tudors, History’s Vikings and several other historical pieces.
“I’ve loved this deeply and I’ve loved Billy since I was...
