Only Murders In The Building Heads to Hollywood in New Season 4 Teaser - Main Image
Disney has dropped the first teaser trailer of the Emmy-winning mystery comedy series Only Murders in the Building:
The trailer confirms what we already know: Season 4 will see our amateur true crime podcasters Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), Charles Haden-Savage (Steve Martin), and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) hit the streets of Los Angeles, as they find a studio interested in bringing Only Murders to the big screen.
In the cliffhanger finale of Season 3, our amateur sleuths join an after-party to celebrate the triumphant opening night of Oliver’s murder mystery musical Death Razzle Dazzle. Not long after they close the case of Ben Glenroy’s elevator accident, they will be confronted soon by the “hot, fresh, dead body” of Charles’s friend and long-time stunt double Sazz Pataki (played by Jane Lynch).

Pixar is ready to make fans emotional over its latest feature by inviting them to reconnect with Riley in the highly-anticipated sequel, Inside Out 2. I visited Pixar Animation Studios in late March for a Press Day Event focusing on Inside Out 2. While there, I was blown away by the artistry, dedication, patience, and creativity poured into the studio’s latest feature film. In addition to touring the Pixar campus, I and an assembly of journalists met with critical contributors for a hands-on, behind-the-scenes look at the studio’s meticulous filmmaking process.

Only Murders in the Building ended Season 3 with the death of Jane Lynch’s character, Sazz. But like those late night infomercials, just wait – there’s more.
In an interview with People at the Alzheimer’s Association Magic of Music Gala on May 9, the actress, 63, shared that she’s still going to be a presence in Season 4.
“Well, I’m the murder victim, which is not a tease,” she said. “And so I have some really great flashbacks.”
Lynch added that she’ll “also appear in [the season] another way,” but provided no specifics.
“I don’t want to give it away though, but I’m in it a lot,” she said. “I’m in five out of 10 episodes, so I’m excited.”
In the show, Lynch plays the role of Sazz, Steve Martin’s Charles-Hayden Savage Hollywood stunt double.

“There was still so much mystery and tension, and I found myself scoring more than I ever scored before in the show with all the new characters,” reveals Siddhartha Khosla. The Emmy-nominated composer returned for Season 3 of “Only Murders in the Building” to expand the sonic identity of Hulu’s comedic murder mystery. “On a show like this, we don’t have tons of time, so we get the cuts, score them, they’re in,” remarks Khosla, “And especially since the score is sort of baked into the identity of the show, the themes and the ideas have to be there sort of early on.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.
“I’m a singer songwriter before I was ever a composer for TV and film. So I think of everything like these little songs,” says Khosla of his approach to composing. He constructs a theme for each character, complete...

Hulu has big things coming down the pipe for Only Murders in the Building. Steve Martin said this week that the group is about halfway done filming, and that the cast of the upcoming season 4 will be “star-studded.”
Only Murders has made headlines in previous seasons for its glitzy guest stars, which have included Meryl Streep, Paul Rudd, Jesse Williams, Jane Lynch, Amy Schumer, Cara Delevingne and more. Season four is set to include new characters from Eugene Levy, Eva Longoria, Zach Galifianakis, Kumail Nanjiani and Molly Shannon.
It’s unclear if Martin’s comments were referring to even more not-yet-named stars who will join the cast, but he told People this week that he and his co-stars believe season four “could be one of our best seasons” (though he added that “they’re all flawless”).

Life in post-strike Hollywood was definitely a topic of conversation at Sunday’s Writers Guild Awards, with former WGA West president David Goodman saying “the strike is over, the fight goes on” while adding “as individuals we’re replaceable.”
That sentiment has never been more applicable than now, as the ongoing contraction in Hollywood continues to impact how many writers remain out of work since walking off the picket line in September.
In March, Deadline kicked off a Hollywood Contraction series by checking in with the above and below-the-line communities to see whether opportunities have picked up since the end of the strikes.
The response hasn’t been positive. Because of fewer shows in the works and the disappearance of pilot season, the availability of gigs are now few and far between — with many considering a life outside of Hollywood.

David Hemingson’s The Holdovers at Focus Features won original screenplay and Cord Jefferson’s Oscar-winning American Fiction from Amazon MGM Studios took adapted honours at the strike-delayed Writers Guild Awards on Sunday.
This was a second major adapted screenplay award in relatively short order for Jefferson after last month’s Oscar win.
The Holdovers prevailed in an original screenplay category that included Barbie and May December, but not the Oscar winner Anatomy Of A Fall, rendered ineligible here because it was not produced under a Writers Guild of America (WGA) contract.
The best documentary screenplay award went to Errol Morris for The Pigeon Tunnel.

With the 2024 Oscars and the 2023 Emmys firmly in the rearview mirror, the film and TV awards calendar is all but ready to return to normalcy after last years Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes disrupted the first half of award season. The last major event to be impacted by the altered schedule is today’s WGA Awards, which took place in an unusual post-Oscars slot after the strikes forced the guild to delay its voting process. Selena Gomez has seen her “Only Murders in the Building” co-stars and guest stars get nominated for and win Emmys the past two years while she sat on the sidelines. Will the third time finally be the charm? She’s currently in fifth place in the Best Comedy Actress odds. Given her previous snubs, you’d be justified to doubt her chances, but we’ve been through this before with a twice snubbed actress-singer who pulled through on her third try under very similar circumstances: Mandy Moore.
“This Is Us” was a breakout hit when it premiered in 2016 on NBC. In 2017, it earned 10 Emmy nominations for its freshman installment, including Best Drama Series and seven acting bids — but not for Moore in Best Drama Actress. It won two awards: Best Drama Actor for Sterling K. Brown, who prevailed over his TV dad Milo Ventimiglia, a surprise nominee, and Best Drama Guest Actor for Gerald McRaney,...

The three series leads remain Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez as true crime-obsessed neighbors that get caught up in real cases. Additional new faces in Season 4 include Eugene Levy, Eva Longoria and Molly Shannon. Meryl Streep, who first appeared in Season 3, will also reprise her role. In a strange reversal of a long-standing trend with the Academy, this year’s documentary short ballot is almost entirely domestic, while the feature doc category — where subtitles aren’t so common — is entirely international. Judging by the overall quality of the films in the 141-minute “2024 Oscar Nominated Short Films: Documentary” lineup, that’s no sign of compromise. In fact, for Oscar completists, ShortsTV’s annual roundup is one of the most rewarding theatrical experiences audiences could hope for this year.

Meryl Streep is opening up about some of the fears she had going into season three of Only Murders in the Building, particularly when it came to her big musical number.
Streep joined Steve Martin, Martin Short, Selena Gomez, showrunner John Hoffman and songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul for a For Your Consideration event on the Paramount lot on Friday night, with a conversation moderated by co-star Jane Lynch. The group is currently shooting season four of the series, which is largely set in Los Angeles, on the lot.
Streep told the crowd how she called Martin to ask to appear on the show, after having had a “really fun” time working with him on 2009’s It’s Complicated.
“I’m sorry, can you believe that Meryl Streep asked to be on this show? I could die,” Gomez exclaimed, as Streep responded, “Doesn’t everybody want to be on this show?...

Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building has never had any trouble assembling an all-star cast, and that trend continues with the new season. It was announced today that Emmy-winning eyebrow enthusiast Eugene Levy has joined the cast of season 4 of Only Murders in the Building.
Details of Eugene Levy’s role in the fourth season are being kept under wraps, but it’s said it will be recurring. Other new additions to the cast include Molly Shannon, who will be playing a high-powered Los Angeles businesswoman, and Eva Longoria, whose character is being kept under wraps. Meryl Streep, who was featured in the last season, will also be returning. Eugene Levy and Martin Short go way back, all the way to Sctv, so it should be a treat to see them reunite on season 4 of Only Murders in the Building.

If you are aiming to win your Oscar pool you may feel relatively safe right about now predicting, as most are, a sweep by Oppenheimer — especially after its overwhelming showing last week winning seven BAFTA Awards, the DGA honor for Christopher Nolan the week before that, and on Saturday sweeping three of the five movie awards at SAG and winning the top prize last night at the PGA Awards.
However, key to actually winning your pool will not be those marquee feature film categories but rather the three shorts races that run under the radar, but can spell the difference in triumphing over all others in whatever pool you enter. So who could — or should, for these purposes — prevail in the Documentary Shorts, Animated Shorts and Live Action Shorts contests this year? Shorts TV in association with distributor Magnolia Pictures has, as usual, put all of them in theatrical release across the country,...

There exist three Oscar categories where it’s possible to watch all nominated films in one shot – that’s shorts, Animated, Live Action and Documentary. Packaged into three feature length films presented by ShortsTV, the Oscar Nominated Short Films open in theaters today for a four-week run on about 650 screens in the U.S. and Canada.
It’s 19-year tradition popular with audiences and theaters. Each film is also “an event. Then you can go argue about who you think should win,” says ShortsTV founder and CEO Carter Pilcher.
Theater owners can screen any or all of the three compilations however and whenever they want from a traditional run to a one-week marathon before the Academy Awards on March 10.
Pilcher says the animated bundle tends to do the best historically, although the 2023 short called My Year Of Dicks nudged out some of the family audiences that love animation, giving Live Action the win.
