Eric Appel's "Weird: The Al Yankovic Story," coming to the Roku Channel on November 4, 2022, tells the 20 true story of Alfred Matthew Yankovic, better known to the world as "Weird" Al Yankovic, as he rose to fame "inventing new lyrics for songs that already exist," as characters repeat often. The film covers the events of Yankovic's life from his beleaguered childhood and his first comedic recordings that he mailed into the Dr. Demento Show in the late '70s, to his record contracts and immediate quintuple platinum records in 1983 and 1984.
The film also posits that Yankovic (Daniel Radcliffe) was hated by his parents for his passion for comedy, and was busted for attending a very illegal polka party where accordions are treated like contraband reefer. In the world of "Weird," Yankovic improvised his song "Another One Rides the Bus" as a challenge at a well-moneyed industry party attended by Wolfman Jack (Jack Black), Elvira,...

Just about five minutes into the set, Yankovic took a pause to soak it in, and even wipe away what appeared to be a genuine tear. “Let me just take a moment to enjoy this,” he...

Former Av Club head writer Nathan Rabin released his new book The Weird Accordion to Al a few weeks back. It’s a monumental work that breaks down every single song Yankovic has released across his 40-year career, encompassing everything from big hits like “Eat It” and “Smells Like Nirvana” down to rarities like the “extra gory version” of “The Night Santa Went Crazy” and spoof songs he made for TV shows like “Homer and Marge” and “30 Rock Theme Parody.”

Some movies will always make me laugh, but let’s face it; the same movies might make others yawn. Comedy is tricky business, the hardest genre to pull off from script to screen. I’ve put together a list of 10 More underrated or dismissed comedies that deserve a first chance or even a second chance at recognition. Humor is subjective, but gives these flicks a chance and I promise you will enjoy yourself.
Check out the first 10 here and 10 more below; let me know what you think and what your list might look like.
Beer League
An unemployed slacker inspires his softball teammates to improve their game so they won’t get kicked out of the local league.
Director: Frank Sebastiano
Writers: Frank Sebastiano, Artie Lange
Stars: Artie Lange, Ralph Macchio
I found a double disc DVD for this in a sale bin (not a surprise) for $5, it was well worth it.

Earlier this month, the Alamo Drafthouse held two sold out screenings of Uhf at the huge Paramount Theater with Director Jay Levey and Weird Al Yankovic in attendance. To commemorate the event, MondoTees worked with Jay and Al and come up with a special limited edition poster. The poster, designed by Rich Kelley, is available as a 18?x24? screen print, hand numbered edition of 200 for only $30. Mondo is also inserting random posters signed by both Al and Jay, and your chances of getting a signed copy are about 1 in 25, so good luck. See the full poster design after the jump.
