Movie music can be insanely operatic, which is why some composers have been able to perform their fan-favorite scores in concerts. Daniel Pemberton, who has been known to do some very dramatic tunes that easily lent themselves to movie trailers, has piggybacked his recent announcement of his U.K. tour with a tour in the United States. The composer has contributed to the abstract and moody tone of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse: Live in Concert will be web-swinging into concert venues in the U.S. starting with Nashville, Tennessee on September 1. For more U.S. tour information, visit the official website, beginning at 10 a.m. Et today. The performances will feature a live-to-picture performance of Pemberton’s mold-breaking orchestral and electronic score. A scratch DJ on turntables and a designated whistler will be performing to...

Following last week’s announcement of the now fast-selling U.K. tour, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse composer Daniel Pemberton is revealing that the film’s live-in-concert experience is now web-swinging across the Atlantic and into the States.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Live in Concert’s 50-plus-date U.S. tour will kick off Sept. 1 in Nashville, Tennessee, featuring a live-to-picture performance of Pemberton’s mold-breaking orchestral and electronic score. A scratch DJ on turntables and a designated whistler will also be present to add two of the score’s most unique ingredients, and at a select number of events, you might even catch Pemberton on guitar and a number of other instruments including his own face. (He’ll explain below.) For more U.S. tour information, visit the official website as further details become available later this week.

Channing Tatum, a natural athlete who found that college was not to his liking, moved to Tampa in his teens to work construction and found an outside gig as a male stripper at night. To Tatum’s credit, he never denied his stripping gig but instead turned it into artistic gold (years after he became an actor) with a hit franchise you may have heard about: “Magic Mike” (2012), “Magic Mike Xxl” (2015) and “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” (2023).
After being discovered by a talent scout, Tatum started his career with small movie parts until he snagged the lead in “Step Up,” (2006), a successful dance/romance mash-up. Tatum’s looks and athleticism, as well as his dancing and acting skills attracted casting directors, who began to place him in bigger and bigger films.

T-minus two years for the release date of the upcoming Project Hail Mary. Amazon MGM Studios has finally set a date for the Ryan Gosling astronaut thriller. Deadline recently reported that the film, which is being directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, is preparing for launch on March 20, 2026. There are currently no other big titles scheduled for that weekend. Amy Pascal, Gosling, Lord, Miller, Aditya Sood, Rachel O’Connor and Andy Weir are all on board as producers of the film. Drew Goddard wrote the adapted screenplay based on the Andy Weir novel. Weir had also written the novel for The Martian, which served as source material for the Matt Damon film of the same name. Goddard is also set to executive produce with his Goddard Textiles partner Sarah Esberg, along with Ken Kao.
“The movie, filmed for Imax, is based on Weir’s (The Martian) novel and set in the near future.

It looks like Ryan Gosling is going back to space. Deadline reports that the “Barbie” and “The Fall Guy” actor will star in Phil Lord & Christopher Miller‘s upcoming adaptation of “Project Hail Mary” at Amazon MGM. And if Lord & Miller’s film is anything like Hollywood’s last Andy Weir adaptation, 2015’s “The Martian,” then “Project Hail Mary” will be a homerun for all involved.

The movie, filmed for Imax, is based on Weir’s (The Martian) novel and set in the near future. Gosling plays Ryland Grace, a schoolteacher-turned-astronaut who wakes up from a coma, alone, on a space station with no memory of who he is or his mission. His memory returns in bursts and he pieces together that he was sent to the Tau Ceti solar system, 12 light-years from Earth, to reverse the impact of a space event that had already hurled our planet into the early stages of an Ice Age. However, Beyond the Spider-Verse was eventually delayed indefinitely with producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller admitting to fans it would come out "when it’s ready" (via Digital Spy).

Recently, Amazon MGM has revealed some new footage of the upcoming Christmas comedy Red One, which stars Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans and J.K. Simmons.
Deadline reports on the ten minutes that Amazon has screened for the CinemaCon audience. First off, while this is a movie that has been set for Prime Video, the footage is said to be very theatrical and it is revealed that Red One will indeed be hitting theaters on November 15. Not much can be said by way of details as those who saw the footage are instructed to keep their lips sealed.

Theater owners have been treated to their first glimpse of Amazon MGM Studios’ year-end holiday romp Red One, starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans. While the studio didn’t give an official presentation at CinemaCon this week, it used the annual convention to show off 10 minutes of the comedy inside a spacious suite at Caesars Palace.
Those who saw the footage were asked to keep plot details under tight wraps, although its known that J.K. Simmons plays Santa and Bonnie Hunt plays Mrs. Claus.
Red One, from Dwayne Johnson and his Seven Bucks Productions, is set to hit theaters worldwide Nov. 15, 2024, in order to take full advantage of the long year-end holiday corridor (several cinema operators told The Hollywood Reporter the footage looks promising). The holiday action comedy is based on an original story from Hiram Garcia, president of production at Seven Bucks Productions. Jake Kasdan directed from a script by Chris Morgan.

While Amazon MGM Studios didn’t take the stage at CinemaCon, they did meet with exhibitors and key press to strut their future theatrical slate, in particular they showed off ten minutes of the Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans’ movie Red One. While we agree to keep mum about the details of the Santa Claus rescue movie, let’s just say the originally conceived for Prime Video title is definitely meant for theatrical, which is where it’s going on Nov. 15; the only wide release currently on that weekend.
Let’s just say that Red One is a fire-breathing Christmas action movie that completely reinvents the holiday genre. There hasn’t been a mass appealing Christmas tentpole in six years, the last being Illumination/Universal’s The Grinch which made over a half billion worldwide. Based on the novel of the same name by Andy Weir, the movie Project Hail Mary is pressing ahead, and filming is set to get underway this summer. Bruce Timm’s Batman Beyond is one of the most timeless animated series that showcases a strong storyline, which has broken all the typical Batman myths with its unique animation style. The series is set in a futuristic Gotham City, showcasing Terry McGinnis under the mantle, under the guidance of an old Bruce Wayne.
Terry McGinnis as Batman in Batman Beyond
The series had taken a bold departure from a traditional narrative, allowing room for exploration of new themes and characters that will retain the character’s popularity. However, the show was a result of an impossible demand that could not be met by Bruce Timm and his team members. None of them wanted to work on a new show, as they were already busy with other important DC projects. Hence, they came up with a great solution, creating one of the greatest Batman shows.

After a triumphant time in the 2010s, things are uncertain at the Walt Disney Company right now. With audience interest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe fading and "Star Wars" having become a primarily streaming franchise, there's a feeling that the company may have carelessly set fire to its money trees.
Disney's changing leadership suggests it won't be staying the course. In 2022, former Disney CEO Bob Iger resumed his post from Bob Chapek, a simultaneous vote of no confidence in his successor yet a stamp of approval for Iger's own tenure (he first served as Disney CEO from 2005 to 2020). Since his return, Iger has implicitly criticized Chapek's decision to go all-in on Disney+ originals, spreading the company's main offerings (Marvel and Pixar especially) too thin.

Once any story hits the internet, it doesn’t just belong to the people who made it; fan art, fiction, edits, music, tattoos, and all sorts of reinterpretation follow, to say nothing of the barrage of reboots and remakes the corporations running the entertainment world are so enamored of. But there’s something interesting that happens, from both an artistic and an audience perspective, when much loved characters get transposed into a medium where their range of expression and even their physicality is different.

Welcome to a new era of "Star Wars," in more ways than one. Today's newly-released trailer for "The Acolyte" has been a long time coming, promising to delve into an older and more unknown period of history in the galaxy far, far away. Set over a century before the prequel movies during the epoch known as The High Republic, the upcoming Disney+ series will cover wholly new ground that fans have never seen before -- at least, those who haven't been keeping up with the various official tie-in novels released over the last few years. But filling in lore gaps in the canon isn't the only reason why this exciting new story should be on our radar, however. The talent involved in this series both in front of and behind the camera immediately sets it apart from any other to this point, although one name stands tall above the rest.

The rumors that Nicolas Cage might make a comeback to the Marvel Cinematic Universe are probably familiar to fans of both comic books and the Oscar-winning star. While many expect him to reprise his role as Ghost Rider in the upcoming flick Avengers: Secret Wars, it seems that the actor, 60, could be taking on a different Marvel character this time around.
Cage recently responded to reports that he is in talks to play the lead in Marvel’s live-action Spider-Man Noir TV series. The actor previously voiced the character in the animated flick Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). Over a year ago, news surfaced that Amazon is working on a live-action series focused on Spider-Man Noir, a superhero based in 1930s New York City. Unlike the usual Spider-Man tales, this series will spotlight an older, more seasoned character distinct from Peter Parker. Developed by Oren Uziel, the show will carve its own path within the Marvel universe, with Uziel serving as both writer and executive producer.
The project has attracted attention from industry veterans, including producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. With Uziel’s credentials from films like “22 Jump Street” and 2021’s “Mortal Kombat,” the series adds promising talent. This initiative falls in line with Amazon’s Marvel character-focused projects, such as “Silk: Spider Society.”
Recently, we reported Nicolas Cage’s interest in portraying Spider-Man Noir. In a recent interview with Collider at SXSW, the acclaimed actor confirmed his interest:
Well, I can say that we have been talking.

More than a year ago we learned that Amazon is set to produce a live-action series centered around Spider-Man Noir, a superhero set in 1930s New York City. Unlike the traditional Spider-Man story, this series will focus on an older, more weathered character, quite different from Peter Parker. Developed by Oren Uziel, the show will have its own path within the Marvel universe, with Uziel serving as both writer and executive producer.
The project so far involves notable names from the industry, including producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. Uziel, known for his work on films such as ’22 Jump Street’ and the 2021 Mortal Kombat,’ brings his talents to the table. This series was just one more in line with Amazon’s Marvel character-driven projects, alongside ‘Silk: Spider Society.’

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the sequel to the Oscar-winning flick, Into the Spider-Verse. While the sequel was nominated also nominated for Best Animated Film, it unfortunately lost to a surprising movie, Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron.
A still from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
Despite its impressive reviews and being hailed as one of the best sequels to a Spider-Man movie, fans are absolutely shocked, to say the least. While everyone reacted differently, the producer-writer of the movie Christopher Miller took it like a champ. Yet fans brought back one dark legacy of the movie after one tweet of Miller went viral.

Best Picture winner “Oppenheimer” and “Poor Things” were the big Oscar craft winners March 10, each winning three awards. Christopher Nolan’s historical thriller about the atomic bomb grabbed cinematography, editing, and original score, while Yargos Lanthimos’ surreal “Frankenstein” gender-bender snagged costume design, production design, and makeup and hairstyling.
The rest went to “Godzilla Minus One” (visual effects), “The Zone of Interest” (sound), and “Barbie”. The lone “Barbie” win was a major disappointment for Greta Gerwig’s billion-dollar blockbuster, which was expected to also take costume design and/or production design for the inventive Mattel-inspired fashion and world-building.
The wins for “Godzilla Minus One” and “The Zone of Interest” were both upsets: Takashi Yamazaki’s Kaiju actioner bested Gareth Edwards’ AI-themed “The Creator,” which won the Ves prize, and Jonathan Glazer’s Holocaust drama about the banality of evil (the international feature film Oscar winner) overtook “Oppenheimer,” which won the...

As we wind down this year’s Oscar season, we at Gold Derby are already looking forward to next year’s. Clearly, we can’t get enough. But next year’s Academy Awards season could also concern this year’s as the Oscars afterglow effect could be in full force. Actors can often garner a quick follow-up nomination after breaking through in the nominations list the year prior. Eddie Redmayne accomplished this when he followed up his 2015 Best Actor win for “The Theory of Everything” with a 2016 Best Actor bid for “The Danish Girl.” Similarly, Octavia Spencer was nominated for Best Supporting Actress two years in a row — in 2017 for “Hidden Figures” and in 2018 for “The Shape of Water.” So, which of these year’s acting nominees could return next year? Let’s take a look.
Best Actor
Bradley Cooper has an exciting project that should be out in time for next year’s Oscars.

Paul Dano is familiar with the comic book movie genre thanks to his acclaimed performance as Riddler opposite Robert Pattinson in “The Batman.” The Matt Reeves-directed tentpole was a box office hit with $772 million worldwide. That’s a mighty sum for the superhero genre, which took more than a few punches last year as entires like “Shazam: Fury of the Gods,” “The Flash,” “The Marvels,” “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” either disappointed at the box office or outright flopped. Does that mean superhero fatigue is real?
“It’s an interesting moment where everybody has to go like, ‘Ok – what now?’ Hopefully from that, somebody either breathes new life into [comic book movies], or something else blossoms which is not superheroes,” Dano recently told The Independent when asked about superhero fatigue. “I’m sure there will still be some good ones yet to come, but I think...

(Welcome to Animation Celebration, a recurring feature where we explore the limitless possibilities of animation as a medium. In this edition: season 3 of "Clone High" and "Jellystone!")
Animation fans (and fans of good movies regardless of style) have been thrust into an emotional tornado spinning as wildly as the Tasmanian Devil regarding the release of director Dave Green ("Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows") and writer Samy Burch's ("May December") live-action/animated hybrid Looney Tunes courtroom flick, "Coyote vs. Acme." What should be an absolute no-brainer hit at the box office is at risk of being scrapped for a tax write-off despite positive test screenings, the result of yet another frustrating corporate decision prioritizing capitalism over creativity, and an all-out attack on the art of filmmaking.
Of course, you realize, this means war.

Jason Reitman and a coalition of 35 other filmmakers have together acquired one of Los Angeles’ most historic and iconic movie palaces.
The group together are the new owners and caretakers of the Village Theater in LA’s Westwood neighborhood. The 93-year-old theater, which is a block from the UCLA campus and continues to host many studio premieres weekly or monthly, is distinctive for its soaring tower, neon marquee, and massive screen. The Village Theater has been hosting premieres since the 1930s; in 2023 alone, 50 movies premiered there.
The new owners will work to preserve the theater and upgrade it to show both first-run films and repertory programming, equipping it with 35mm, 70mm, and digital projection. The group will also influence the lobby galleries, the theater’s programming, its picture and sound capabilities, and will even showcase memorabilia from their personal collections, such as props, costumes, and film prints.
