Despite the intentions of any director or director of photography, the person with the final say in how a film will look when screened for an audience is the projectionist. And if you’re lucky enough to have someone like Rob “Bert” Murphy, you know the show will look and sound as the filmmaker intended. If Murphy is attending Doc NYC this weekend, I hope he doesn’t veer off to an AMC multiplex and find a 3D polarizer permanently affixed to one of those Sony projectors that make films appear darker and slightly more purple than they should––a critical failure that New York audiences have been subjected to for at least the last ten years. But we digress.
Splice Here: A Projected Odyssey, directed and featuring Murphy, is a celebration of cinematic exhibition. This includes the quirky network of projectionists, collectors, and innovators who keep film alive and preserve film history.

Robbie Deans, coach of the Australian Wallabies for five years, and man that supposedly led to the downfall of Australian Rugby. This article is going to analyse whether Robbie Deans really flushed our Wallaby side down the drain, or whether he was just the victim of media backlash and under-education.
Robbie Dean’s coaching career began in 1997 with the Canterbury Club in New Zealand. A former player himself- Deans had a deep understanding about the ins and outs of Rugby and how that could be best translated toward a team that would win.
His mentality for the game and the team must have been enough because he was upgraded to coach of the Crusaders and Assistant Coach for the All Blacks themselves. This promotion showed the rugby world that Deans was a force to be reckoned with. During Dean’s time as assistant coach (from 2000-2003) the team themselves played a total of 37 games.

It's not clear yet what form the Oscars' tribute to the James Bond franchise will take. On Friday, the Academy announced it had booked Shirley Bassey for her first-ever Oscar show appearance, so at the very least, we're likely get to hear her belt out one or more of the three Bond movie theme songs she recorded ("Moonraker," "Diamonds Are Forever" and of course, "Goldfinger"). We also know Adele will be on hand to sing her currently nominated theme to "Skyfall." Beyond that, Oscar host Seth MacFarlane has made a promo clip where he plays a bartender who makes fun of James Bond (Pierce Brosnan, in an archival clip) for the distinctive way he orders his martini. Otherwise, there are few clues as to what shape the tribute will take, though there is a rumor that all six men who've played 007 -- Daniel Craig, Brosnan, Timothy Dalton, Roger Moore, George Lazenby...

Thanks to your votes, the drama "Umbrella" won this weekend’s Project of the Week contest! Congratulations to "Umbrella" directors John Mitchell and Christina Zeidler. The filmmaker will receive a digital distribution consultation from SnagFilms and the film is now officially a candidate for Project of the Month. That winner will be awarded with a consultation from the Tribeca Film Institute. Here's what the project's about: We have all had to deal with forgiveness in our life. But what if you were a witness to a woman being attacked, and despite your best efforts in helping her, wound up having your leg amputated as a direct result of the melee? How about learning from the police that the woman you attempted to save was raped? How could you live with yourself? What if your wife, unable to cope with the stress and pressure of the marriage, decided to take another man into your bedroom?...

Academy-Award winning director Oliver Stone, an avid historian, whose latest goal is, "to generate a national conversation" with his upcoming Showtime documentary series, "The Untold History of the United States" is following every step of the presidential race, he tells Zap2it.
"Both parties made it clear they will enforce the old rules of the empire," Stone says.
After watching the first debates between President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, Stone -- who directed "W" the 2008 biopic of President George W. Bush starring Josh Brolin -- says, "I was surprised by the level of intelligence of both because I had become so accustomed to Bush."
Stone, never one to shy away from a controversy, takes a contrary view in the documentaries, which he made with Peter Kuznick, a history professor at American University.
"There is no one talking about what we are talking about," Stone says. "Maybe Dennis Kucinich, but the media is not listening.

Madonna is back in action, but this time she's mooning the audience instead of flashing her breasts.Late last week, while performing "Human Nature" during her sold-out concert at Istanbul, Turkey's Türk Telekom Arena, the Queen of Pop stripped down to some lacy lingerie before pulling down her bra to expose her right breast. The flash had everyone talking. Was it appropriate? Didn't she just say that nipple-flashing was kind of passé? Why is everyone surprised? This is Madonna after all.
Never one to bow down to her critics, and perhaps keen to keep the all the attention she's received in the wake of her own miniature nipple-gate, the 53-year-old pop star decided to bare even more (insanely toned) flesh at her concert Tuesday night in Rome,...

Celine Dion has finally responded to Kate Winslet's statement that "My Heart Will Go On," the theme song to Winslet's career-launching film "Titanic," makes her sick.
On the "Today" show on Monday, Dion took the criticism in stride — though the look on her face when the topic came up suggested she was maybe a little disappointed in Winslet's slight on the song — and even admitted to some empathy for the Oscar-winning actress, who told MTV News in March that the song still follows her wherever she goes.
"If I just count how many times I've sung it, maybe it'll get me sick," Dion joked to "Today" correspondent Savannah Guthrie.

"She is frail, and she doesn't eat when she should do, and she's a girl, and it's tougher for a girl. She works really hard," John continued. "She will be in Denmark one night and Saudi Arabia the next.

Two killers against one — not exactly the fairest of odds, no, but it certainly sets the stage for one of the coolest fights we've seen on screen all year long.
It's only fitting, then, that "The Hunger Games" took home Best Fight at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Sunday night (June 3), gifting both Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson with their second Golden Popcorn statuettes of the night, and bad boy Alexander Ludwig with his first.
The award was presented by "Prometheus" co-stars Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender, who thought his Irish heritage and famous and much-discussed manliness meant he could handle the duties himself.

Despite ongoing health concerns, things just keep getting better on the professional front for "American Idol" season 11 winner Phillip Phillips. The singer's debut single, "Home," is making a splash on the Billboard charts, ringing up a series of history-making debuts for the Fox singing competition.
With 278,000 digital downloads, "Home" is the highest-debuting song on this week's Digital Songs chart, bowing at an impressive #2 behind Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe." That number is also large enough to give Phillips the second-best digital-sales week ever for an "Idol" contestant. Only the original "American Idol," Kelly Clarkson, can boast a bigger digital sales week: Her smash "My Life Would Suck Without You" debuted with 280,000 downloads in January 2009.

Bieber was in the Scandinavian country's capital city, Oslo, to perform a free six-song concert outside of the Oslo Opera House, but the site was quickly overrun by several thousand fans, who at one point began chasing after a car presumed to be transporting Bieber to the concert location while ignoring police warnings and causing a spike in mobile usage that briefly crippled cellular service in the city.

One of the summer's most anticipated films, director Ridley Scott's "Prometheus," doesn't open until June 8, but early reviews for the sci-fi blockbuster are already trickling in, something many studios would fear so far ahead of a film's release — that is, if they weren't as universally positive.
So far, the consensus is clear: "Prometheus" is a flawed film with a lot of great things going for it, most notably a breakout scene-stealing performance from Michael Fassbender ("Shame"), inspired and amazing 3-D effects and plenty of "jolt and amaze" moments that all but assure filmgoers "will be right back for seconds" when 20th Century Fox releases the film next Friday.

Fans are mourning the loss of one of the greats, a real pioneer, whose innovative use of synthesized backing tracks blazed the path for the dance music we are all so familiar with today.
Hers are some of the most memorable disco songs ever recorded, and her impact on music is almost too large to quantify with words, but for Summer herself, it was all about the voice.
"Music is part of my life. For my judgment, music is the greatest of all the gifts," Summer told MTV News' John Norris in a rare 1989 interview.

Usher sat down for an exclusive "MTV First" interview about his hotly anticipated upcoming release, Looking 4 Myself, his unconventional album-listening experience with the off-Broadway show "Fuerza Bruta" and to give fans a first listen to the Myself track "Twisted" featuring Pharrell. He told MTV News' Sway Calloway the song is a "nostalgic record" that reflects the album's ambitious aim to represent the variety of musical experiences that have impacted the R&B superstar.
" 'Twisted' is more of a nostalgic record, so when you think about the classic R&B record, we managed a way to modernize it, even though that's very relevant," the singer said. "You hear records like Cee Lo, you hear Bruno Mars and...

There's no doubt Jennifer Lopez has experienced one of the most meteoric comebacks in recent memory, and it seems Forbes is taking note, granting the multi-hyphenate mogul the top spot on its annual Celebrity 100.
Lopez unseats Lady Gaga, who took top honors last year but falls to #5 in this year's ranking; her visibility and earnings were lower in the last 12 months because she wasn't touring, having wrapped her Monster Ball in May of last year and only recently launching her latest road show, the Born This Way Ball.
Rihanna and Kim Kardashian debut on the list in grand fashion, coming in at 4 and 7, respectively. The two benefited from the inclusion of a "Social Rank" among the factors, which include money earned,...

Farrah in the trailer for season 4 of "Teen Mom"
Photo: MTV
The ups and downs that come with growing up and being a young parent have captivated viewers of MTV's "Teen Mom" for three seasons, but the upcoming fourth season, which premieres with two back-to-back episodes June 12 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt on MTV, will be the last to feature the original cast — Maci Bookout, Farrah Abraham, Amber Portwood and Catelynn Lowell.
While the televised story of these four young mothers, who first shared their stories in the first season of "16 and Pregnant," and their struggle to navigate their teens and early twenties with toddlers in tow is coming to a close, the franchise will continue, with premiere dates for "Teen Mom 2" and "Teen Mom 3" to be announced at a later date.

Celebrity-gossip blogger Perez Hilton guest stars on this week's big "Nationals" episode of "Glee," but was uncharacteristically reluctant to address the rumors of fellow guest star Lindsay Lohan's alleged on-set misbehavior when MTV News caught up with him at Wango Tango in Los Angeles this weekend.
"I'm on 'Nationals,' a very important episode, and Lindsay Lohan is also on this episode," Hilton told MTV News. "And it's a nail-biter. Everybody has to watch."
When the conversation turned to allegations that Lohan was hours late to set and was difficult once she finally arrived, Hilton chose his words very carefully, turning the conversation back to himself — and in so doing, seemed to imply that Lohan was not at her professional best.

"The Voice" judges Cee-Lo, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton

Ahead of its upfront presentation on Monday (May 14), NBC has released its 2012-2013 primetime schedule, and it is heavy on shakeups as the struggling network attempts to refocus and make itself "Must-See TV" again. The biggest and strangest move is the shift of comedies "Whitney" and "Community" to Fridays at 8 and 8:30 p.m., respectively. NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, did not beat around the bush when addressing how industry pundits interpreted the move. "I know that most people in our industry think Friday is a graveyard but we don't really believe that," Greenblatt said about the move. "If you don't build it they won't come."

The film works most of the time, but its conclusion is sure to leave fans divided.

Eva Green and Johnny Depp in "Dark Shadows"
Photo: Warner Bros
finally hit theaters Friday (May 11), and let me tell you, it's a doozy. There's a lot to admire about Tim Burton's reimagined "Shadows" (and there are some problems as well), but the question that has lingered with me most since seeing the film is who exactly Tim Burton made it for.
I'm not sure it was "Shadows" purists, those who ran home from school to soak up the strange, dark and wonderful late-'60s soap opera and who still have a strong connection to the style and feel of the original. It's probably not for fans of Burton and Johnny Depp's earlier collaborations either, even though the trailers and TV spots sell it like it's supposed to be.

Chris Brown has released a freestyle version of Kanye West's "Way Too Cold," and his lyrics seem to have landed the controversial Grammy-winning hip-hop star in hot water with ex-girlfriend Rihanna.
On the track, Brown raps, "Don't f--- with my old bitch it's like a bad fur/ Every industry n---a done had her/ Shook the tree like a pumpkin just to smash her/ Bitch is breaking codes, but I'm the password."
Brown tweeted a link to the freestyle early Thursday morning (May 10) and was met with a prompt response from Rihanna, who tweeted, "Aw, poor dat #neaux1currrrr." She then immediately unfollowed Brown on the social network.
For his part, Brown hit Twitter again Thursday morning to issue a pseudo-denial that the song is about Rihanna.
