Audiences of all ages adore cozy mysteries.
Within the genre, Hallmark mysteries have reigned supreme for years.
The question is which Hallmark mystery movie franchises are the best.
The best cozies contain idyllic settings, well-established characters, and elements of romance and humor. They also need staying power, which is why the multi-movie series are usually the most popular.
With those points in mind, here's how several of them compare.
11. Martha's Vineyard Mysteries (2020–2021)
Jesse Metcalfe plays Jeff Jackson, a medically retired police detective living in the picturesque setting of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. He solves crimes with the help of a doctor and medical examiner, played by Sarah Lind.
This is one of the worst Hallmark mystery franchises in terms of believability. Characters repeatedly get away with things real-life doctors and cops could not do, such as freely sharing confidential information with multiple other characters.

After almost a decade, “Home & Family” is signing off of the Hallmark Channel.
The morning show, which paused production twice amid the Covid-19 pandemic, is set to resume filming at the end of March. Now Variety has learned exclusively that that batch of episodes will be its last.
“The ninth and current season of ‘Home & Family’ will be the series’ last,” a spokesperson for the network said in a statement. “For nearly a decade, the show has anchored our daytime lineup, featuring countless hours of cooking, lifestyle, DIY, health, entertaining and decorating segments. We want to thank the heart and soul of the show, our incredibly talented cast and crew — led by co-hosts Debbie Matenopoulos and Cameron Mathison — for their creativity, hard work and dedication. Our audience can look forward to more of the topical segments they know and love when the show returns on Monday, April 5 with a new one-hour,...

Danica McKellar is one of our favorite people to chat with because she's so very alive when talking about what she loves.
That includes Hallmark, her son, and the holidays among other things. She talked a little bit about all of that and a lot more as she promoted Hallmark's Christmas She Wrote, airing this Sunday on Hallmark. She stars with Dylan Neal, who we also had a chance to speak with regarding the film.
Get yourself a cup of hot cocoa and snuggle up with a blanket and find out more from Danica with our interview, which has been edited for clarity and content.
I just got off the phone with Dylan Neal, so I'm all in Christmas She Wrote mode.
How's he doing? He says you had a really good time filming. We did. We did. I didn't know what it was going to be like. It was...

On Sunday, December 6, Dylan Neal stars with Danica McKellar in Christmas She Wrote. The two actors are Hallmark favorites, and it's their first time teaming up together, so we expect we're in for a very fun film, indeed.
We had the chance to chat with both of them, and right now, we're sharing parts of the discussion we had with Neal, edited for clarity and content.
If you're a big fan of Hallmark productions, you'll enjoy getting to know this talented man who writes, produces, and performs some of our favorite programming while still finding time for interests away from the network, too.
How did you get involved with Christmas She Wrote?

It’s time to check out what Disney+ UK has planned for June! Last month, the streaming service added Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as its centrepiece, and this month will see the arrival of a first-look premiere in Kenneth Branagh’s new family film Artemis Fowl, which has skipped its cinema release and landed on Disney+. The big budget movie is based on the bestselling book by Eoin Colfer, and follows 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl as he sets out to find his missing dad. The project boasts a stellar cast that includes Ferdia Show, Colin Farrell, Josh Gad and Judi Dench. We’ll at least get a quick chance to guess for ourselves if it would have been a box office hit for the mouse house or not.

There is no doubt that we are experiencing unprecedented and, frankly, unwelcome times.
So it shouldn't come as a surprise that many of your favorite Hallmark stars are finding it difficult to forge on with excitement over their programming when so many are in a world of hurt.
But they also realize that what people need more than ever is comfort, and with new programming limited, together, we're trying to share an appreciation for feel-good television.
Of course, Hallmark is the leader in feel-good programming, and the stars of the Matchmaker Mysteries film series on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries are proud of their work and hope you'll find some joy, no matter how brief, with their latest endeavor.

All Nikki DeLoach wanted for Christmas was an Awkward reunion, and she got it… a few months early. The actress formerly known as Lacey Hamilton is currently filming opposite her MTV husband Mike Faiola in Hallmark Channel’s Reunited at Christmas, a considerably more serious holiday movie than you might expect from the feel-good network.

Chicago – Strike one of far too many: “Fifty Shades of Grey” author Erika Leonard (better known as E.L. James) has never lived the Bdsm lifestyle. And therefore, nor should she be writing about, romanticizing and profiteering on it. On a $40 million budget, the film earned $30.2 million on its opening Friday and is on track for a record-breaking international weekend grab of $158 million.
But this is as irresponsible as an author writing about rape who has never been. Anne Rice wrote “The Sleeping Beauty Quartet” (four erotic Bdsm novels under the pseudonym A.N. Roquelaure), but she was actually engaged in Bdsm with her husband. Experienced with it, Rice also wrote the Bdsm romance novels “Exit to Eden” and “Belinda” under the pen name Anne Rampling.
Rating: 2.0/5.0

Fifty Shades of Grey is about to hit theaters, and a new set of images have been released. You’d expect that to mean that some pretty provocative things are in store for you, but the film is committed to avoiding the idea that there is any plot. Also, it understands that you don’t care if there is any plot, and thus, relaying any hints about a plot have no bearing on who is showing up to fill the coffers.
Now, you might think I’m just ranting, because the book is laughably-written, and not smart enough to realize the extent to which it insults the intelligence of its readers (and I am), but the film has already established its position on “having plot,” and whether or not this is a subject worthy of discussion for a really bad romance/chick-porn novel turned movie.
Really. It’s not just me.

The adaptation of E.L. James’ best-selling worldwide phenomenon, Fifty Shades Of Grey, arrives in cinemas shortly, and that means several things. First off, the quantity of trailers, clips and teasers released has escalated. It’s nigh on impossible to switch on a TV, turn on the radio or browse the web without either hearing or seeing the words “Mr. Grey will see you now,” as if that dominant expression is somehow expected to make the population quiver. Second of all, it means that before the impressionable public can fork out their hard-earned cash to see it, the film must first be granted a ratings certificate.

The worldwide popularity of the Fifty Shades Of Grey novel soon prompted the production of a film that’s about to land in cinemas across the globe. For every person who simply adored the book, there’s a fair few who thought it left a lot to be desired (oh, the irony considering its subject matter!) Whichever camp you’re in, there’s no mistaking that the big screen version is destined to be the kind of ‘event’ that will provoke polarized reactions from the public.
This latest teaser for the film debuted during last night’s Golden Globes ceremony, during which the two leading stars also presented an award. The fact that their moment of autocue shenanigans revealed them to possess no chemistry whatsoever is somewhat troublesome/amusing. That old ‘suspend your disbelief’ mantra is difficult to enact when Jamie Dornan (the clean-cut hunk) and Dakota Johnson (the impressionable...

For those of you who are curious about this Fifty Shades of Grey film, we have a new trailer for you to watch. I’m not buying into the hype, and I’m not really expecting much from the film. I bet fans of the book are going to be disappointed in the movie because it won’t live up to their expectations and be as hardcore as they hoped.
Sam Taylor-Johnson directed the film adaptation of the E.L. James novel, and it stars Jamie Dornan as the wealthy Bdsm enthusiast Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as the timid, inexperienced Anastasia Steele.

Last year, Hallmark Channel began airing their own original scripted series. Their first, the Cedar Cove TV show, was successful enough to be renewed for a second season. Will it be cancelled or renewed for a third year? Stay tuned to find out.
Cedar Cove revolves around single mother Olivia Lockhart (Andie MacDowell), a municipal court judge from a small seaside community. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Corey Sevier, Paula Shaw, Bruce Boxleitner, and Barbara Niven.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
10/29 update: Cedar Cove has been renewed for a third season. Details here.
Final season averages: 0.2 rating in...

So Universal Pictures decided to released their first full trailer for the Fifty Shades of Grey movie during San Diego Comic-Con. I just find that weird for some reason. I've hardly posted anything on this movie since it doesn't really interest me, but since it's a full trailer, and I know there's an audience out there for this thing, I figured… what the hell? So if any of you are interested or curious about what this thing actually is, you'll find the synopsis and trailer below. After I watched it… I'm still not interested.

Universal got up early this morning and premiered the first Fifty Shades of Grey trailer, giving all the horny housewives a taste of what's to come Valentine's Day 2015 as the adaptation of E.L. James' book comes to life to the tune of Beyonce's "Crazy In Love". Fifty Shades of Grey centers on literature student Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson), who goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana's quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too -- but on his own terms. Shocked yet thrilled by Grey's singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success -- his multinational businesses, his vast wealth,...

It’s here! Making its debut on the Today show Thursday morning, the Fifty Shades of Grey trailer titillated fans after Beyonce teased the upcoming release last weekend. Starring Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele, the film adaptation promises to deliver on all the sex, love and seduction that made E L James’ books an international best-seller.
Leading up to the trailer, the question on everyone’s mind was, “Is it going to deliver on the kink that made the books a hit?” The opening shots look tame but by the end, it’s clear this film is going to teeter on the edge of Nc-17.
While sex is certainly a key factor in the film, so is Dornan. As the title character, the model-turned-actor has the unforgiving challenge of seducing not only Johnson but audiences around the world. Does he live up to the book’s potential?...

One of the biggest movies of next year is going to be Fifty Shades of Grey, Universal’s adaptation of the runaway bestseller by E.L. James, and now the first trailer for the R-rated romance has arrived, providing an exciting and surprisingly engrossing first look at the film.
Set to a stripped-down rendition of Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love,” the trailer opens with timid college student Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) meeting mysterious business magnate Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) for the first time. Immediately, she’s intimidated by him but also intrigued. As their relationship continues and turns romantic, she soon finds herself exploring forbidden, passionate territory with the emotionally aloof Christian.
Though this trailer stays relatively tame as far as the kinkier aspects of their sex life goes, fans of James’ book (which has been criticized by some as “mommy porn” for its explicit content) know full well what to...

Alas, the days when cinema buffs got amped up for movies by watching full-length trailers are behind us. Now, the studios wheel out trailers for the trailers, call them “teasers” and trick the general public into watching them without actually giving away any footage from the film. Bigger box office prospects are more prone to this strategy than smaller flicks, which is why I’m not surprised to see that erotica adaptation Fifty Shades of Grey is one of the titles attempting to grab our attention ahead of the premiere of its first actual trailer.
A teaser for the preview, which drops Thursday, comes to us courtesy of Beyoncé, of all people. You’ve got to hand it to the marketing department for landing possibly the most widely beloved singer in the world to advertise Fifty Shades of Grey (which didn’t exactly need more publicity anyway, but oh well...

As much as it pains me to write this, one of the most anticipated book adaptations hitting screens in the near future – right up there with new Divergent and The Hunger Games installments – is Fifty Shades of Grey, based on a Twilight-fanfiction-turned-erotic-romance that somehow became the fastest-selling paperback of all time. Fans of the steamy book by E.L. James are likely scrutinizing the web daily for news about the adaptation, though very little has come out about the movie since it wrapped production in February. Today, however, those fans will be thrilled to get their first real look at mysterious billionaire Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), whose Bdsm-fueled romance with college student Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) powers Shades and two other books.
Dornan wasn’t the first choice for the tricky role - Pacific Rim star Charlie Hunnam was originally cast but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts with FX’s Sons of Anarchy.

The Hallmark Channel‘s first volley into the world of original scripted programming, Debbie Macomber’s Cedar Cove, is hitting for home audiences on July 15th, just in time for a serious binge before the second season hits on the 20th.
The show’s initial run was quite the success, taking over its time slot for cable networks, and leaving viewers hungry for more.
Not only did viewers flock to the show, if the internet reaction is any judge, Andie MacDowell really grabbed hold of people.
Mark your calendars for this one.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that there are going to be a lot of special features, and this is just the sort of show that might have fans hoping for a bit more.
