Following the massive success of “Formula 1: Drive to Survive,” Netflix is turning its attention to American auto racing. The streamer has released a new trailer for “Race: Bubba Wallace,” a new documentary about NASCAR’s only full-time Black race car driver. The six-episode series premieres February 22.
Bubba Wallace recently gained notoriety for speaking out about racial injustices in the famously right-wing sport, and his activism is credited with pushing NASCAR towards banning Confederate flags at its events. In 2021, Wallace became the first driver to sign with Michael Jordan’s 23X1 Racing team, which the basketball legend founded to help promote the success of Black NASCAR drivers.
The official summary from Netflix says that “over the course of six-episodes Wallace reckons with who he is on and off the track, finding himself as both a driver and an activist. He confronts his mental health issues and permanently alters the notoriously...

"I drove like I've never driven before." 1091 Media has debuted an official trailer for a thrilling documentary titled Blink of An Eye, a shortened version of the title of the book this is based on about Nascar driver Michael Waltrip - "In the Blink of an Eye: Dale, Daytona, and the Day that Changed Everything". The story begins when Michael leaves his small Kentucky town to follow in the footsteps of his brother. He gets help from the legendary Richard Petty, but proceeds to race 462 times without a win. The longest losing streak in Nascar. Despite this, Earnhardt puts him in one of his cars in the 2001 Daytona 500. On the last lap, the running order is Michael in first, Earnhardt's son "Jr" in second, and Earnhardt himself in third. Earnhardt blocks the 40 cars, but is swept up in what looks to be a minor crash that ends up killing him.

The final checkered flag is in sight for Fox Sports’ longtime Nascar announcer Darrell Waltrip. The retiring Hall of Famer will call his last race at season’s end in June.
An original member of Fox Sports’ Nascar booth team, he has spent 19 seasons commenting on the boogity-boogity as stock cars sped by at 200 mph. He’s also known for voicing the Darrell Cartrip character in all three of Disney/Pixar’s Cars films.
“My family and I have been talking this over the past several months, and I’ve decided to call 2019 my last year in the Fox Sports booth,” said Waltrip, a three-time Nascar champion driver who won 84 Cup races was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2012. “I have been blessed to work with the best team in the sport for the past 19 years, but I’m 72 and have been racing in some form for more than 50 years.

Records, as they say, are made to be broken. Just ask Babe Ruth, Wilt Chamberlain or Gordie Howe.
Their career marks for home runs, points and goals, respectively, were so revered in their sports that they became major media events when they fell.
Another major sports record could be tied this year, the one for Sprint Cup championships in a career: seven, currently held by Richard Petty and the late Dale Earnhardt, and being pursued by Jimmie Johnson.
The 2014 season of Nascar's top series gets into gear Sunday, Feb. 23, at Daytona International Speedway, as Fox airs the 56th running of the Daytona 500. On Sunday (May 27), the 96th running of the Indianapolis 500 mile race -- aka the Indy 500 -- will kick off at Noon Et at Indiana's Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but for the first time in years Danica Patrick -- who is now competing on the Nascar circuit -- won't be in the starting lineup. Neither will racing legend Richard Petty.
Petty is concentrating his energies on the Coca Cola 600, which kicks off Saturday evening in Charlotte, N.C.
