The hunt is over for The Winchesters: The CW has cancelled the Supernatural prequel spinoff after just one season, TVLine has learned. (The network on Thursday also pulled the plug on Kung Fu.)
The Winchesters‘ freshman season averaged 790,000 total viewers and a 0.2 demo rating (with Live+7 playback). Out of the 14 dramas that The CW aired this TV season, it ranks No. 7 in audience and is a five-way tie for No. 2 in the demo (trailing only All American).

"Supernatural" ran for a whopping 15 seasons, not including the prequel "The Winchesters," which follows a young John and Mary Winchester before the events of the original series. The show, which was actually originally intended to be about two journalists, spans over 300 episodes of brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) saving people, hunting things, and doing the family business, with a flannel shirt, a gruff voice, and a classic rock soundtrack. That's hundreds of hours of monsters, magic, laughter, tears, rage, and brotherly love. How do you even begin to narrow it down to the best episodes?
With such an expansive run, the show was bound to have some low points (let me just take this moment to say ... tetanus), but there are dozens of high points to choose from, too. When "Supernatural" is at its worst, it can be a chore to watch, with an endless carousel...

Eric Kripke continues to pull in his Supernatural friends to fill out Prime Video’s The Boys, with Jeffrey Dean Morgan being the latest Supernatural veteran to sign up for the incredibly twisted, comic book-inspired series. There hasn’t been any official confirmation of who Morgan will play, however, he did tweet out his excitement over being a part of the mini-Supernatural reunion.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s a huge fan of The Boys and has been looking forward to the opportunity to reunite with Supernatural creator Eric Kripke for a while. Kripke told EW in May 2022 that the idea of bringing in Jeffrey Dean Morgan was still very much on his mind. It was all a matter of scheduling which was complicated when Morgan committed to starring in a The Walking Dead spinoff with Lauren Cohan.
“We might still remain star-crossed, unfortunately, because I did ask. We had a role come up,...

‘The Boys’ Season 4 Adds Jeffrey Dean Morgan in Mystery Role, Marking Another ‘Supernatural’ Reunion
Soldier Boy’s daddy is joining “The Boys” for its fourth season — kind of.
In a move that is sure to bring joy to the “Supernatural” fandom, Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been added to the cast of the Amazon superhero series for Season 4, marking yet another reunion between an alum of the long-running CW series and its creator Eric Kripke, who is now showrunner of “The Boys.”
“Walking Dead” star Morgan will be a recurring guest star on the fourth season of “The Boys,” with details about his character being kept under wraps for now.
On The CW’s now-ended “Supernatural,” Morgan played John Winchester, the demon-hunting father of Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki), whom he taught the “family business” from a very early age following the death of their mother Mary (Samantha Smith) at the hands of a yellow-eyed demon in the series opening moments.

It goes without saying that Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) are the heart of "Supernatural." Throughout its 15-season run, the monster-slaying brothers were the face of the CW series: its story begins and ends with them, saving people, hunting things and living up to their family legacy. But its also true that they couldn't have saved the world from multiple apocalypses without a little help from their friends.
As the seasons progressed, what began as a story about two brothers searching for their father became a beautiful example of the power of found family. It's hard to remember a time before Castiel (Misha Collins) was a core part of their team and, while he's only introduced in the last couple of seasons, Jack Kline (Alexander Calvert) later becomes a crucial addition to their family.
Plenty of other familiar faces move in and out as the show goes...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “The Instant White-Hot Wild,” the Season 3 finale episode of “The Boys.”
Jensen Ackles knows a thing or two about playing men who have less-than-healthy relationships with their fathers following his 15 seasons starring as Dean Winchester on The CW’s “Supernatural” and his role as toxic-masculine superhero Soldier Boy on the now-concluded third season of Amazon’s “The Boys.”
But which of the two Ackles characters — one who did everything his demon-hunting father John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) asked of him and his brother, Sam (Jared Padalecki), and the other who went so far as to have a corrupt company inject him with a chemical that gave him super powers in an attempt to win his father’s approval — had the bigger “daddy issues” complex?

Over the course of 15 years, Supernatural aired an extraordinary 327 episodes, every single one of them starring the same two people, a quite incredible achievement.

In 15 seasons of “Supernatural,” Sam and Dean Winchester have fought vampires and demons, they’ve been to hell and they’ve died a lot. But would the show survive Covid-19? It was a very real question after the Vancouver-based production shut down on March 13 because of the coronavirus pandemic, one day into filming the series’ penultimate episode. After successfully filming 325 episodes of the show since it premiered in September 2005 on The WB, a network that no longer even exists, was “Supernatural” really going to end its run without a proper finish?
There was no need to worry. The show’s loyal fandom will, in fact, get the ending they’ve been waiting for. One week ago, “Supernatural” completed production on its series finale, bringing the story of the Winchester brothers — Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) — to a close. British Columbia, where the show films, has handled coronavirus well,...

Over the years, Scooby-Doo and the gang have taken part in some memorable team-ups. Believe it or not, those meddling kids can lay claim to having met the likes of Batman and Robin, the Three Stooges, the Harlem Globetrotters and even the cast of Gilligan’s Island. In fact, DC even published an ongoing comic titled Scooby-Doo Team-up in recent years.
But, later this month, the Great Dane with an insatiable hunger will cross paths with Sam and Dean Winchester in what’s expected to be an unforgettable animated mashup. Sure, Supernatural is still riding high after Bobby Singer’s recent return (even if it’s his doppelganger), but this’ll likely take the cake as the most memorable thing to come out of season 13.

I'm really starting to hate hospitals.
There are plenty of decent people on The Resident Season 1 Episode 7, but with awful patients like Bobby Singer and hospital administrators like Claire and the board, along with Bell and Lane, who would ever want to step foot in a hospital?
Chastain Park is right on the list with Grey Sloan Memorial as far as hospitals I would never want to visit a day in my life. Not unless I'm ogling the eye candy, of course.
Can we kick things off by discussing Bobby Singer? His name alone should have been a sign that he's an asshole. He sounds arrogant, entitled, and like that guy who would cut you off in line for your coffee every morning or slip out of bed and fail to call you back after a fun night out.
When he asked for Nic's number, it wasn't for anything good.

One thing that’s especially beautiful about the alternate reality known as “Apocalypse World” that Supernatural has recently introduced is that it allows for the series to bring back certain characters in less convoluted ways. Really, there’s no need to think up some kind of magical spell or whatnot; the fact that different incarnations of Bobby Singer, Michael and Zachariah exist in a universe next door is a simple enough concept to wrap your head around.
Naturally, it’s expected that these alternate takes on characters we’ve come to love (or love to hate) have led remarkably different lives, especially when you consider that there wasn’t a Sam or Dean Winchester around to help avert the end of the world.
Of course, there are various other notable differences that came about, chiefly due to the fact that Mary Campbell never married John Winchester, thus leading to that...

Being someone who’s been on board with Supernatural ever since the pilot episode aired, one thing I’ve learned about the long-running horror series is that death doesn’t mean a permanent end. Really, in a world where ghosts, monsters and a variety of gods exist, there’s no shortage of ways to bring back characters that fans have come to love. In fact, Jim Beaver’s Bobby Singer has been one of the best examples, having appeared as both a ghost and in a coma dream.
Actually, the series has opened up a myriad of new possibilities in recent memory, what with its exploration of alternate universes. Primarily, “Apocalypse World,” a place where Sam and Dean Winchester were never born and therefore unable to avert the end of the world, has been a frequent destination of late.

Much like the DC TV shows that also populate The CW’s prime time lineup, Supernatural has developed an affinity for exploring alternate realities as of late. Actually, it’s nothing new to the series, with season 6’s “The French Mistake” remaining among my all-time favorite episodes, but the idea hasn’t been exploited to this degree until relatively recently.
Aside from “the Bad Place,” another realm that we’ve visited this season is that of “Apocalypse World,” which is pretty self-explanatory. But if you’re unfamiliar, the long and short of it is that it’s a place where Sam and Dean Winchester were never born, thus they were never able to prevent the end of the world.
So far, we’ve met alternate takes on Bobby Singer and Michael, both of which are a bit rougher than their counterparts on what we’ll call “Earth-1.” Well, in truth,...

Bobby Singer, the surrogate father of Sam and Dean Winchester, is prepped and ready for his second coming. Or should that be third coming?
Supernatural tends to play things fast and loose when it comes to life, death and the murky netherworld in between, but rest assured, Jim Beaver’s fan-favorite will be making another surprise appearance once the series returns from winter hiatus. How do we know? Well, Ol’ Bobby himself has shared an early teaser via Twitter (via ComicBook.com), which brings us closer to the world-weary Singer and his tattered clothing.
Of course, as any Supernatural fan will tell you, Uncle Bobby actually passed away in season 7, when a stray bullet caught him in the head. Since then, the show’s impassioned community (or family, if we’re going by the official term) has been quietly petitioning for Jim Beaver’s return, though it wasn’t until...
