Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso just dropped an episode unlike any other — and you probably have a few questions.
In Season 2, Episode 9, titled “Beard After Hours,” the assistant coach (played by the series’ Emmy-nominated co-creator Brendan Hunt) set out on an all-night odyssey through London to clear his head following that devastating loss to Manchester City. Along the way, Beard snuck into an elite club populated by pompous British scholars; fled a seductress’ flat and made a death-defying jump to escape her seemingly menacing boyfriend; engaged in fisticuffs with Jamie Tartt’s street-tough father; and took center stage at an underground rave,...

Ted Lasso the show might be named after Jason Sudeikis‘s optimistic coach, but another one is taking center stage in the latest episode, “Beard After Hours.” Emmy-nominee Brendan Hunt gives viewers a better look at his eccentric Coach Beard who is in a sore spot following A.F.C. Richmond’s semifinal loss at Wembley in the previous installment. Preparing to drown his sorrows over the loss, Beard takes a seat at his and Ted’s local haunt, The Crown & Anchor in an exclusive sneak peek clip, above. (Credit: Apple TV+) After having seemingly grabbed a pint from Mae (Annette Badland) at the bar, Beard is approached by the pub’s trio of regulars Jeremy (Bronson Webb), Baz (Adam Colborne), and Paul (Kevin “Kg” Garry) who show concern for the coach. “Dropped your keys,” Jeremy says, holding them up to Beard before Baz notes how poorly the Wembley match went.

Jonah Hill is stepping behind the camera again with another topic close to his heart. After his 2018 directorial debut Mid90s, which was an autobiographical look at a young boy’s coming of age amongst a group of skaters, Hill will be directing a documentary for Netflix about therapy, using his own therapist as the focus. Dr. Phil Stutz will be at the center of Hill’s documentary, which he says on Instagram will “frame therapy and Phil’s tools for dealing with life in a way that isn’t corny or cheesy.” In an exciting addition, it is reported that the film will also feature an interactive component that will be able to assist people who are unable to obtain therapy to get the tools and information they need Joaquin Phoenix, who co-starred with Hill in the Gus Van Sant film Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot, will...

"His methods are ingenious. He's a master of disguise. And his mind is brilliant." Sony Pictures has finally debuted the first trailer for the comedy titled Holmes & Watson, reuniting the original "Step Brothers" - Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly - in a new comedy from another time. Ferrell plays Sherlock Holmes, and Reilly plays Dr. Watson. We can definitely say you've never seen a Sherlock Holmes movie like this before. It looks as ridiculous as it sounds, especially with these two making a mess of, well, everything. The full cast includes Kelly Macdonald, Rebecca Hall, Lauren Lapkus, Noah Jupe, Hugh Laurie as Mycroft, Pam Ferris, Bella Ramsey, Rob Brydon, Kieran O'Brien, Bronson Webb, and Jordan Long; with Ralph Fiennes as Moriarty. This looks totally kooky and absurd, and a bit too dumb for my tastes. Enjoy. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Etan Cohen's Holmes and Watson,...

Cormoran Strike is a refreshingly old-fashioned kind of Pi. Spoilers ahead in our episode 2 review of The Cuckoo’s Calling…
This review contains spoilers.
It’s rare for TV detectives to be easy to get along with nowadays. In addition to a tragic backstory, the modern variety tends to come equipped with a personality disorder that lends them a usefully unique perspective on crime. A lack of interpersonal skills is crucial. They rub people up the wrong way, don’t play well with others and shrug off relationships in favour of stalking around dockside warehouses at night speaking Danish. Even the non-Scandi ones are, metaphorically, Danish.
Increasingly few twenty-first century TV gumshoes are people you’d sit down with for a pint and a good moan - unpretentious types able to switch off from the job, get pissed and eat a kebab. Di Ellie Miller on Broadchurch is one,...

Frankenstein is set for release 16 January 2015 and they’re shooting the movie in the UK right now. Reader Christopher Heaney (@darthelvis) has informed us that they’re shooting at the Manchester Town Hall and has uploaded a number of revealing shots to his Flikr account.
The period piece looks absolutely fantastic equipped with huge dresses and numerous top hats and the set decoration looks like it’s come straight out of diagon alley. You can also see Radcliffe sporting a new rather long haircut.
Frankenstein stars James McAvoy, Daniel Radcliffe, Jessica Brown Findlay, Bronson Webb, Freddie Fox, Andrew Scott and is directed by Paul McGuigan.

Probably not, but that certainly isn't dissuading Twentieth Century Fox whom are busy at work with their new feature version of the tale based on the classic novel by author Mary Shelley. 'Lucky Number Slevin' director Paul McGuigan takes helm of the project which sees James McAvoy ('Wanted') play Victor Frankenstein with 'The Woman in Black' star Daniel Radcliffe playing Igor. The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Starring: Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Directed by: Christopher Nolan.
Available on Now TV.
The weird quick turnaround time-lapse between hyperbole and backlash that we have seen plague our blockbusters this summer can be traced back to this film. As a follow-up to The Dark Knight, it is a disappointment but it’s still a fitting finale and is definitely on a par with Batman Begins. A lot of the problems this film had on release have to do with it coming so soon after The Avengers. The Dark Knight Rises is epic filmmaking and has many breath-taking sequences in its own right; it just doesn’t have four superheroes fighting aliens. Anne Hathaway’s Selina Kyle...

Director: Luis Prieto. Writer: Matthew Read. Cast: Richard Coyle, Bronson Webb, Agyness Deyn, Mem Ferda and Zlatko Buric. The Victoria International Film Festival has begun! This annual event began February 1st and February 2nd offered Luis Prieto's Pusher. This title is a remake of Nicolas Winding Refn's (Drive) original film of the same name. Both films deal with a drug dealing and drug using character named Frank (Richard Coyle). Other characters such as Flo (Agyness Deyn) and Tony (Bronson Webb) can act as an anti-thesis to this central character, but Frank is consistently leading the action. Flo is the romantic interest, who seems to care more about Frank than he does himself. All of these characters create an entertaining time in a well shot London backdrop. Frank is a low level drug dealer with aspirations. An old cellmate, who Frank barely knows, wants to buy a kilogram of cocaine.

Title: Pusher Director: Luis Prieto Starring: Richard Coyle, Zlatko Buric, Bronson Webb, Agyness Deyn, Mem Ferda An English-language remake of “Drive” director Nicholas Winding Refn’s gritty 1996 Danish film of the same name, itself the first of a pulpy trilogy, crime drama “Pusher” has a neon-lit nervy energy — at once slick and grungy — and the sort of unabashed, screw-tightening rhythms that genre enthusiasts will embrace. As directed by Luis Prieto, it’s the tale of a drug pusher pushed too far — a man, caught up in a closing net of owed debt, resorting to desperate means that even he finds distasteful. It’s well acted and for the most part engaging, but also [ Read More ]

Editor’s note: The Pusher remake hits limited screens today, so please imbibe this quality review from our Fantastic Fest coverage, first posted on September 30, 2012. Despite what many movie fans might tell you, remakes are not inherently evil. Some movies had good ideas but couldn’t execute them properly, some could use a facelift, and some were great the first time but simply fell victim to the studio’s desire to cash in. Remakes have a bit of a tough road. First off, the they need to do what any movie needs to do: put together a good story and good performances with good cinematography. These are simply the basic building blocks of good films. But a remake has baggage, it has people’s expectations hoisted upon it. And so a remake, unlike a film based on an original idea, must also justify its own existence. Sadly, Luis Prieto‘s Pusher only manages to accomplish one of...

Pusher is perhaps the closest thing we’ll ever get to a Grand Theft Auto movie. That might be doing it a disservice, but the original Danish film (from 1996), directed by Nicolas Winding Refn has stood the test of time to remain one of the strongest pieces of crime cinema I’ve ever seen. Refn has since gone on to direct the incredible Bronson, Drive and Pusher sequels and has begun an ascension to the A-list annals of Hollywood.
This British remake from director Luis Prieto takes the original film’s story and transposes it to the streets of London, where Frank (Richard Coyle) serves as a low-level drug dealer, alongside his best friend Tony (Bronson Webb). He works for Milo (played by the original film’s Zlatko Buric), who is more or less the head of this very local drug syndicate. There’s nothing particularly formal about how they operate,...

The best action in film springs from desperation. Die Hard hits plenty of familiar beats in the action-movie genre, for example, but forces its lead into a corner at the outset, making it so he has to fight to get out and stay alive. The notion of trapping someone to see what they’ll do and how far they’ll go to survive is at the heart of the propulsive and intense new British thriller Pusher, a remake of the 1996 film that catapulted its director, Nicolas Winding Refn (recently the director of Drive, and the executive producer of this redo), to European film stardom. The new Pusher is a stripped-down affair, emphasizing the ticking-clock element of the story to exceptional effect.

Push It Real Good: Prieto’s Glossy Facelift of Refn’s Cult Classic an Empty-headed Bauble
Spanish filmmaker Luis Prieto makes his English language debut with a remake of Nicolas Winding Refn’s 1996 landmark first feature, Pusher, a ballsy move, considering the original is a veritable cult classic and a story which Refn turned into a trilogy and has gone on to influence a new generation of filmmakers. And while Refn himself gave his blessing, and is actually an executive producer on the project, Prieto doggedly pursues the exact same trajectory as the original, replacing the gritty aesthetic with style, gloss, and models. Drug dealing in the London streets never looked so fanciful and glam rock as it does here, and when it comes time for the violent stripe of degradation to rear its head, there’s no bite, no tension, and no feeling.

Luis Prieto’s remake of 'Pusher' is of interest because Nicolas Winding Refn's original offers such promising source material. But even with Refn's blessing, Prieto makes plenty of his own mistakes, delivering a stylish but perfunctory copy of his predecessor. Richard Coyle ("Prince of Persia") plays Frank, a working-class drug dealer with a predictably unpredictable sidekick named Tony (Bronson Webb) and a sometime girlfriend named Flo (Agyness Deyn). When Tony reintroduces him to an old prison buddy who offers to pay handsomely for a kilo of cocaine if he can deliver it quickly, Frank is distracted by the promise of a payday. But after the cops interrupt their transaction, leaving him with neither the drugs nor the money, Frank finds himself in hot water with his supplier Milo (Zlatko Buric), who demands that he repay a $50k debt within the next two days. The biggest problem with...

On The Road (15)
(Walter Salles, 2012, Fra/UK/Us/Bra) Sam Riley, Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, Kirsten Dunst, Tom Sturridge. 124 mins
It was the book that defined a generation, but On The Road has taken several more generations to get to the screen, which dissipates the energy somewhat. Added to which, Jack Kerouac's hip prose was never exactly movie-friendly. This is appropriately scenic, sweaty, druggy and ambisexual, but for all the forced bohemian zeal, the road feels rather long and flat. And what once passed for creative hedonism now looks more like male self-indulgence, which is never much fun to watch.
Ruby Sparks (15)
(Jonathan Dayton, Valerie Faris, 2012, Us) Paul Dano, Zoe Kazan, Annette Bening. 104 mins
A dream girl leaps off a blocked writer's pages and into his life in this playful romcom, which takes its Pygmalion-meets-Charlie Kaufman premise into deeper realms than you'd expect. The facts that Kazan wrote the script,...

Nicholas Winding Refn's gritty 1996 debut about a drug dealer in over his head gets a solid English-language remake
Nicolas Winding Refn's sensational La thriller Drive made him a major player, and perhaps as a result of this, his gritty 1996 debut, Pusher, has been remade in English, transplanted from Copenhagen to London. The result is not half bad. In the original, Frank (Kim Bodnia) is a dealer (the more obviously derogatory word "pusher" is oddly never used), who gets a very large amount of cocaine on account from scary Balkan bad guy Milo (Zlatko Buric) on the understanding that he can sell it easily and give Milo a substantial cut. But the deal goes horribly wrong and Frank is left with neither the drugs nor the money, and the panicky certainty that if he can't get some cash together in the next few days, Milo is going to kill him.

Pusher

UK, 2012
1996’s Pusher launched the career of director Nicolas Winding Refn, and was followed by two sequels in the early 2000s. With some recurring characters but differing leads in each of the trilogy’s films, the first in the series concerned a man growing increasingly desperate, over the course of one week, after a botched exchange leaves him in massive debt to a ruthless drug lord. Refn is credited as an executive producer for Luis Prieto’s UK remake, which relocates the action from Copenhagen to East London. The location is all too familiar for British crime dramas, and the feeling of familiarity is additionally strong with Pusher 2012’s almost carbon copy recreation of the original’s own cliché narrative, which was never that film’s strongest asset.

Luis Prieto’s remake of Pusher starts out in what may be the worst way possible – a credit sequence that introduces the films lead characters by name.
It’s a reference to the original film, but it just doesn’t work. It’s too TV, it seems wrong for a feature film, giving the audience the impression that the creative team either don’t trust the audience to figure these things out on their own, or were too lazy to work these minor details in naturally. Fortunately, after that minor niggle, the film gets a lot better fast.
Richard Coyle’s Frank is engaging from the moment we meet him. Cheeky and charming, but with a very real menace. What’s particularly interesting is that he seems like a very different beast to the usual protagonist in a Brit-crime thriller. He has a slightly odd accent throughout, which isn’t...

Before director Nicolas Winding became a big name in Hollywood with Brosnan and Drive, he made his debut in 1996 with Danish crime drama Pusher, about a mid-level drug dealer whose life spins out of control after a drug deal goes bad, and he ends up owing alot of money to some very bad people. It went on to spawn two sequels, and Hindi remake. Now it's getting remade again, this time in English, with Luis Pietro at the helm, Grabbers' Richard Coyle in the lead role, and Refn himself taking executive producer duties. While I have yet to see the original, Refn's involvement points to it not straying too far from the source material. The trailer promises a pretty intense piece of cinema, and I'm intrigued to see Coyle in a dramatic role, as I've only seen him do comedy in Grabbers and T.V.'s Coupling. The film also stars Agyness Deyn,...

Perhaps understandably, the news that Nicolas Winding Refn's much loved 1996 debut, Pusher, was getting a British remake caused a few fans' feathers to be ruffled – but this exclusive clip of Richard Coyle's take on Frank may change some of their minds.Bostered by the brand new Orbital soundtrack, it's a foot chase that sees the one-time Coupling/Prince Of Persia star hurtling through a London park with a bag of drugs that he doesn't want taken from him. brightcove.createExperiences();What he ends up doing with it you'll have to find out for yourself, but the shakey cam and impressive music should give you an idea of Spanish director Luis Prieto's take on the story of dealer vs. drug lord vs. the world. As you'll see from the trailer below, it also stars Paul Kaye (It's All Gone Pete Tong) Bronson Webb (Game Of Thrones) and supermodel Agyness Deyn as Flo,...

Nicolas Winding Refn will of course forever be remembered and loved for his Cannes-winner Drive, the first film in what will hopefully be a long collaborating career with Ryan Gosling.

The strangest thing about Pusher, the English-language remake of the cult ’90s Danish film, is that it looks more like a Nicolas Winding Refn movie than the original did – curious, given the fact that Refn directed the original, and not this one. Refn’s film, the first in a trilogy, kicked off a career that has steadily grown and which reached a new level with last year’s excellent Drive. It followed a week in the life of a Copenhagen-based drug dealer who suddenly finds himself in heavy debt to his supplier after a deal goes wrong.
The remake transports the material to London, and in so doing leaves behind the grittiness sometimes associated with Danish cinema and replaces it with the British equivalent. If that sounds worryingly like the darkness of the original has been replaced by Guy Ritchie-style cops-and-gangsters, worry not; this is...

One of the most interesting events at this weekend's Sundance London festival at the O2 isn't quite a film at all: it's a table read of a new script called Farming by well-established British actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. And he's assembled a stellar cast for the read, including Ashley Walters, Marc Warren, Minnie Driver and David Harewood.Farming is an autobiographical tale about a young man called Enitan (who Walters will be reading), growing up in 1960s and 1970s Britain. His Nigerian immigrant parents engage in a then-common practice called "farming", fostering their son to a white couple while they work, study and save. But amid a cultural backlash to immigration, Enitan finds himself struggling to create his own identity and falls in with a gang of skinheads. The read-through will also feature Nikki Amuka, Michael Socha, Bronson Webb, Joshua Herdman, Ony Uhiara, Femi Oyeniran and Jonathon Hyde.Akinnuoye-Agbaje already attended...
