It’s official: Walker will not be renewed for a fifth season by the CW.
“We want to thank the entire cast, crew, writers, directors and producers of Walker for their hard work and dedication over four incredible seasons,” the network said in a statement. “We also want to give a special thanks to star and executive producer Jared Padalecki, who has been a member of The CW family for over 20 years and was integral to some of the biggest hits on the network.”
As Deadline reported yesterday, sets for Walker were being dismantled with its renewal prospects dim. Star and executive producer Padalecki, who starred on the WB/CW long-running hit Supernatural for 15 seasons before segueing to Walker, shared the news of the official cancellation with fans.

The CW has given a 13-episode Season 4 order to Walker, starring Jared Padalecki, to air in 2023-24 broadcast season.
This is the first renewal decision made by the CW under its new regime; as Deadline has reported, flagship All American‘s renewal, announced in January, was part of Nexstar’s deal to acquire the CW.
Walker had been considered the frontrunner among the CW’s scripted series to snag a renewal. It is a strong ratings performer, ranking as the network’s most-watched linear show this season in Total Viewers.
The series also is produced very efficiently by CBS Studios, something that is key to the new CW, which has stressed that they would be shifting toward lower-cost scripted programming in order to make the network profitable.

Despite the many lives of Joe Kimbreu, this timeline does not have another season of Ordinary Joe in store. On Friday, Deadline learned exclusively that the NBC series would not be moving forward for Season 2. With the cancellation sinking in, the creative team behind Ordinary Joe, including co-creator Garrett Lerner, reflected on the series.

NBC’s “Ordinary Joe” and Fox’s “The Big Leap” are being dropped by their respective networks after airing only one season.
TheWrap has learned that Fox loved “The Big Leap” and saw it as an aspirational story, but it didn’t draw strong viewership numbers with an average 0.4/2 L7 and 2.8 million multiplatform viewers.
Based on a U.K. reality format, the Scott Foley-starring dramedy “The Big Leap” was described as “an innovative show-within-a-show that takes viewers on a journey of self-acceptance, body-positivity and empowerment at any age” and “a modern tale about second chances and chasing your dreams and taking back what’s yours.”
Created by “Deception” mastermind and “Friday Night Lights” alum Liz Heldens, it followed “a group of diverse, down-on-their-luck characters attempting to change their lives by participating in a potentially life-ruining reality dance show that builds to a live production of Swan Lake. What this group...

James Wolk starred in the series as Joe Kimbreau. The series begins with his graduation from college and explores three possible futures based on a single choice he makes. Could Ordinary Joe‘s many lives be at risk of coming to an abrupt end? Speaking with TVLine ahead of Monday’s (season?) finale, executive producer Russel Friend admits that the NBC drama is “definitely on the bubble” when it comes to its chances for a Season 2 renewal.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Ordinary Joe, Season 1, Episode 1, “Pilot.”] Fall TV is starting out strong with NBC’s new drama Ordinary Joe following James Wolk‘s Joe Kimbreau as he explores the three different paths his life could take after college graduation. Digging into the concept of “what if,” the opening episode packs in plenty of twists and turns, courtesy of creators Russel Friend and Garrett Lerner. Tracking Joe in timelines where he’s a rockstar, nurse, and cop, the series weaves an intriguing web of overlapping characters and conflicts, particularly when it comes to romance and family. (Credit: Sandy Morris/NBC) One thing tying the three worlds together is Joe’s past which includes his father’s death on 9/11. Despite his lack of onscreen presence, Christopher Kimbreau looms large and that’s no coincidence. “Episode 2 really focuses on that a lot,” teases Friend. “Since [Joe’s dad died] when he was 14, that’s a part of ...

While Marvel explores their own slew of “What If…?” scenarios on Disney+, NBC is beginning a similar journey with the series premiere of “Ordinary Joe.” But for the show’s protagonist, and showrunners Garrett Lerner and Russel Friend, the important message is that really, any choice can be the right one.
“It’s a love letter to indecisiveness,” showrunner Garrett Lerner told TheWrap. “That is the theme of the show: whatever choice you make, wherever you end up, that is where you’re supposed to be. That is the right answer. It’s not meant to be cliched, but it’s, you know, some people could call that fate. Some people could call that self determinism. But, you know, a very important line to us is the very last line of the show and voiceover about, ‘It’s not about what if, it’s about what’s next.’ And ‘what if’ essentially is looking back,...

Ordinary Joe might be a new and upcoming show for viewers, but it’s a concept that’s been in the works for quite some time, according to creators Russel Friend and Garrett Lerner. “Matt Reeves (The Batman) wrote the original script about 10 or 15 years ago, and he basically took it out of a drawer and graciously allowed us to be a part of it,” Friend reveals. The series follows Joe Kimbreau played by the charismatic James Wolk, a man who finds himself at a crossroads on graduation day about 10 years in the past. (Credit: Parrish Lewis/NBC) Ordinary Joe tracks three different paths Joe could take, one in which he becomes a rock star, another in which he becomes a nurse and marries his best friend, the third finds him following in his father’s footsteps of becoming a cop. “When we sat down to rewrite it, [Matt Reeves] encouraged us...

NBC has greenlighted two pilot orders – a wedding island disaster thriller exec produced by The Blacklist duo John Davis and John Fox and a bank heist drama exec produced by Julie Plec.
The moves mark the first pilot orders in 2021 by the network – coming after the Covid-19 pandemic threw the 2020-21 development season into chaos with many pilot projects being unable to be filmed until this year and networks moving out of the traditional buying patterns.
Getaway centers on a destination wedding at an isolated luxury resort that quickly descends into chaos after a group of dangerous criminals takes the island hostage. The small group of guests, led by a fearless female Army vet, will do everything they can to stay alive.
It is written and exec produced by JJ Bailey, who wrote Echo, a pilot that was ordered by NBC last year, and Moira Kirland, a co-exec producer on Madam Secretary and Hawaii Five-0.

Since launching in November, Apple TV+ has staked a claim in the great streaming wars, with series across multiple genres. With its topical subject matter and A-list stars, “The Morning Show” landed with Golden Globes voters, nabbing three nominations but failing to secure a win. M. Night Shyamalan’s “Servant” was a finely crafted experiment in serving a half-hour horror series, proving Apple had enough sense to give auteurs free reign. “Dickinson” was one of the best new queer shows of the year, already leading to a Season 2 for creator Alena Smith.
Now, Apple is enlisting another name director, “Crazy Rich Asians” helmer Jon M. Chu, to bring his vision to the growing platform. Chu is executive producer on “Home Before Dark,” a tense mystery created by showrunners Dana Fox and Dara Resnik (“Daredevil”).
