What’s the saying? Oh yeah… third times the charm and the Resident Evil series is no exception. For our third outing we’re here to explore the aftermath of the apocalypse with Resident Evil: Extinction (watch it Here). This one is pretty divisive with the consensus being some people, like myself, loved this film while others felt this was the beginning of the downward slope of sequels of the franchise. Hear me out as to why I sing its praises. For one, it tells a cohesive story and gives us a side of Alice that we’ve been dying to see. We get more new characters that bring gravitas to the story as well as a fully fleshed out villain and it’s a lot of fun. Plus, its pays homage to The Road Warrior in the best way. So, let’s hit up the Sand Dunes of Vegas,...

Director Andrew Saullo teased fans back in December during The Horror Game Awards with the teaser trailer to the upcoming Resident Evil fan short, The Keeper’s Diary: A Biohazard Story. And now, we’re getting the full Monty with the official trailer for The Keeper’s Diary.
The trailer for The Keeper’s Diary features more shots of The Keeper (played by Charlie Kraslavsky) in various stages of zombification, as well as Jill Valentine discovering The Keeper’s room. We do get a shots of dogs (no sign of Cerberus just yet), as well as a quick shot of a Hunter (?!), The Keeper munching on a snake (!!), and Ward E. Sexton doing his iconic “Resident Evil” voice.
Inspired by the original Resident Evil and its 2002 remake, The Keeper’s Diary: A Biohazard Story is an adaptation of the diary entry of the same name found in the Spencer Mansion.

As the dawn of the new millennium approached, the world would start to see a trend of films that would become very mainstream. These types of movies are action horror video game adaptations. As stated in our previous video, there have been a number of different ones, but nothing stood out more than Resident Evil. In 2002, we were graced with the first in this series. It may not have been the critic’s favorite, but it did well enough at the box office to spawn a sequel. The name of that sequel is Resident Evil: Apocalypse (watch it Here). With a title that big, you would think the filmmakers went for bigger, better and more destructive…right? For the most part, yes and they even packed in some surprises for fans of the series. So today on Horror Revisited we ask that you suit up and strap in for Alice...

Several games are added to the Xbox Game Pass every month, offering gamers a chance to experience their favorite titles by paying just one subscription fee. While the people over at Xbox try and go for a game list that appeals to a wide audience, inevitably they will add a title here and there that doesn’t sit right with fans.
Such is the case with their latest addition to the catalog: the Resident Evil 3 remake. The game is fun and action-packed, but Resident Evil purists and fans of the original felt it left a lot to be desired. Will its presence on Xbox Game Pass go down well? First, let’s understand the criticisms behind the game.

This post contains spoilers for the "Resident Evil" film franchise.
Umbrella Corporation. The name will forever be associated with unsavory, downright evil acts within the "Resident Evil" universe, catalyzing the events that define the franchise. Although Capcom's "Resident Evil" games have their own set of canonical events concerning Umbrella Corp., the film adaptations that branched into their own universe also paint this multinational conglomerate in a rather infamous light. In every iteration, Umbrella is never up to any good: be it the manufacture and mass production of biological weaponry, or ushering a new race of virus-enhance monstrosities. At the end of the day, the "Resident Evil" films also fit the survival-horror mold, with a woman named Alice (Milla Jovovich) at the center of the horrors crafted by none other than Umbrella.

Two months after wrapping production, director Andrew Saullo has unleashed the teaser trailer for his upcoming Resident Evil fan film, The Keeper’s Diary: A Biohazard Story. Debuting during The Horror Game Awards 2023, the 15-second clip is a short but very sweet one, teasing the eventual release of the full trailer coming “soon”, exclusively on the Residence of Evil YouTube Channel.
The slick teaser for The Keeper’s Diary provides some rapid-fire cuts of Jill Valentine (played by Gracie Madsen), Charlie Kraslavsky as the ill-fated Umbrella researcher responsible for the Arklay Laboratory’s animals (aka “The Keeper”), “Steve from Research” (played by Frank Scalabrino), and of course, a typewriter.
Inspired by the original Resident Evil and its 2002 remake, The Keeper’s Diary: A Biohazard Story is an adaptation of the diary entry of the same name found in the Spencer Mansion. It summarizes a researcher succumbing to a viral outbreak in an underground research facility.

It may seem hard to believe, but at one stage Resident Evil was not only the highest-grossing film series based on a video game, but also the highest-grossing horror film series period. Consisting of six movies and a reboot, the Resident Evil movies just kept making money even while they were being bashed by critics. Most of those critics arguably had valid points, but the arrival of a new Resident Evil movie simply became oddly comforting somewhere along the way.
Thanks to the creative voices of Event Horizon director Paul W.S. Anderson and his Fifth Element actress wife Milla Jovovich, six of the seven Resident Evil movies feature the character of Alice (Jovovich firing on all cylinders), a former security specialist and covert operative who initially has amnesia but eventually remembers she’s out to take down the insidious Umbrella Corporation, a global company responsible for Earth’s weirdest zombie apocalypse.

You might Jillian Deaton from TikTok, where she recently went viral for her performance interpreting American Sign Language during Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. She's known as Jillian Valentine on the social media platform; Valentine is her alter ego (á la Beyoncé's Sasha Fierce), which allows her to create a more outgoing, onstage persona. "While Jillian Deaton is sensitive and wants so badly to please everyone, Jill Valentine is confident and tough. I like that I can be both," she says.
Originally from Mesa, Az, the 30-year-old is now based in New York City. She's been interpreting Asl professionally since 2014, and got her interpreting education at Phoenix College in Phoenix, Az. The latest entry in the animated franchise, Resident Evil: Death Island comes two years after the last entry, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, and is set in 2015, just after the events of Resident Evil: Vendetta but before Resident Evil 7. Got that?
Somewhere in San Fransisco Dso Agent Leon S. Kennedy is trying to recover kidnapped scientist Dr. Antonio Taylor (Frank Todaro) when a mysterious woman appears and, after a high-speed chase, causes him to crash. Claire Redfield is also in town, trying to find out what kind of creature can use Orcas as a food source. And whether or not the creature is a bioweapon.
Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield and Rebecca Chambers are also looking for answers.

Resident Evil is a video-game franchise with no foreseeable end in sight. And as Capcom’s zombie shooter approaches the big 3-0, it unleashes another entry in the often overlooked animated series of films. Taking place between games 6 and 7, and following 2017’s Vendetta, the story of Resident Evil: Death Island is subject to the same formula as its predecessors. A big threat brews somewhere, and the characters rush in to stop it. However, the new animated film does manage to set itself apart by featuring an all-star cast and complementing the over-the-top action sequences with organic emotional moments.
While the previous animated films — Degeneration, Damnation, and Vendetta — tend to star only a few major characters from the game franchise, Death Island includes four heavy-hitters. Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, and Claire Redfield are all active during this mission.

It’s the final week of July and two more new horror movies are headed onto the big screen this weekend. They’ll have to compete with the #Barbenheimer phenomenon, but both new horror releases look to bring very different counter programming to the box office. One is the next rated “R” fright fest from A24, while the other is a horror-comedy built for families.
Here’s all the new horror releasing July 25– July 30, 2023!
For daily reminders about new horror releases, be sure to follow @HorrorCalendar.
First up, a tragedy leads two dysfunctional families to intertwine in disturbing ways in Screambox Exclusive Repulse, now streaming on the Bloody Disgusting-powered platform.
The bleak, brutal Czech film harkens back to boundary-pushing horror like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes.
In the film, Kateřina and Robert raise their young daughter in a luxurious modern villa, but their family life can hardly be called harmonious.

As the highest-grossing and most popular horror franchise across all forms of media, Resident Evil manages to stay in business around the year, bringing out animated projects, live-action series, or game announcements, never letting fans starve for brand-new grotesque content. Through two and a half decades, the franchise has revolutionized the zombie-horror genre to the point where the name itself has become synonymous with the concept. The recently released Resident Evil: Dead Island is the fifth entry to the CG animated Resident Evil movie universe, which also acts as filler content for the main game series, and for the first time, we get to see all the mainstay characters banding together to take down another T-virus-induced global catastrophe.

A new live-action film based on the Resident Evil video game franchise is in the works (we’ve heard that it’s called Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and based on the game Resident Evil Zero), but while we wait to see how that’s going to turn out, we’re also going to have a new computer animated Resident Evil movie to watch. This one is called Resident Evil: Death Island, and it’s set to receive a Blu-ray, 4K steelbook, DVD, and digital release on July 25th! You can watch the trailer in the embed above.
Resident Evil: Death Island is the fourth animated Resident Evil feature, following Resident Evil: Degeneration, Resident Evil: Damnation, and Resident Evil: Vendetta. There was also an animated mini-series called Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness.

Last summer, a TV series based on the Resident Evil video game franchise made its debut on the Netflix streaming service – and was quickly cancelled. That show was an entirely separate project from Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, the feature film that was released at the end of 2021… and it looks like Welcome to Raccoon City was the more successful of the two projects, because it might actually be getting a follow-up! That movie came to us from Raccoon Hg Film Productions and was filmed in Greater Sudbury, a city in Ontario, Canada. Sudbury.com reports that a mysterious movie called Umbrella Chronicles, which is backed by Raccoon Hg Film Productions, is receiving $2 million in funding from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation to film in the Greater Sudbury area. Since this movie is coming from the same production company as Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, is going...

Despite the mixed reactions and a lackluster box office reaction to last year’s Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, Sony is apparently forging ahead with another film. Sudbury.com has let slip that the city has received funding for a new film project called “The Umbrella Chronicles”.
The city, which was one of the filming locations for Welcome to Raccoon City, will be receiving $2 million Cad from the provincial government for the project, which is being developed by Raccoon Hg Film Productions. That same production company was behind the 2021 movie.
Sony has not officially announced a sequel to the Johannes Roberts-directed film, but given that the credits hinted at a sequel, things are looking like it’s in the works. After all, it would appear that this sequel is taking its name from the 2007 on-rails shooter Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles.

With Capcom riding high with the Resident Evil 4 remake (which recently eclipsed four million in sales in less than a month), they’re obviously hoping that the upcoming Resident Evil: Death Island animated film will share in some of that success. Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake is coming in hot this Friday. But for Fortnite fans, you can get your hands on Leon Kennedy today alongside Claire Redfield as the latest Resident Evil alumni to join the game.
Joining Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield, the Raccoon City Survivors pack features Leon equipped his trusty combat knife and RE4 attache case as his Back Bling, and Claire in her bootcut jeans and biker jacket costume, with the R.P.D. Keys Back Bling (featuring all of the keys you’re required to find in the Police Department), and a red-and-white umbrella as her pickaxe.
Frustrating for some fans, Leon’s costume does not come with his RE4 jacket (though you can certainly buy it for yourself), and instead features his muscle shirt. Can’t win ’em all, it seems.

Video game adaptations: one of cinema’s most hated-on subgenres. Whenever another beloved controllable franchise is announced for moviegoing treatment, eyes roll. Critics quiver. Visions of Mark Wahlberg as Max Payne or Uwe Boll’s crimes against both gamersphere credibility and audience standards montage a hard-fast argument for such scoffs.
Fantastical play-alongs turned theatrical try-hards have long become the butt of many online jokes, and while titles such as Detective Pikachu and both Sonic the Hedgehog films disprove “cursed” trends, I’d argue that not all video game adaptations are created equal.
Horror video game adaptations maketh the best video game adaptations, and that’s by an Arklay country mile.

Six years after his successful adaptation of "Mortal Kombat," Paul W.S. Anderson wrote and directed "Resident Evil," which was loosely based on the survival horror game franchise by Capcom. While some elements of the 2002 film mirrored certain aspects of the first two "Resident Evil" games, Anderson took the pulp, sci-fi horror route with his first installment in a sprawling franchise. Anderson's "Resident Evil" is trashy in an entertaining way — despite being critically panned, the film was a massive commercial success and praised by audiences for its gory, fast-paced plot. And oh, also, zombie dogs.
The film's protagonist, Alice (Milla Jovovich), has never been a character in the games. In "Resident Evil," she is first introduced as an amnesiac on a quest to learn the truth about her identity, while stuck in an underground facility called the Hive that harbors a terrible secret. The Resident Evil franchise is responsible for some of the most chilling moments in interactive media, forcing players to confront man-eating biohazards since the mid 90s. This massive success is ongoing, with new sequels and remakes releasing pretty much every year, but what I think is amazing is that this series of games with little to no regard for conventional storytelling is somehow the franchise that spawned seven big-screen adaptations, a handful of animated films and a short-lived TV show. Meanwhile, there’s still no sign of that Metal Gear Solid movie!
Don’t get me wrong, the Resident Evil games boast plenty of memorable characters with interesting backstories, but these titles have always been more about the player-driven narrative derived from personally outsmarting Umbrella and escaping horrific situations rather than any cohesive yarn. That’s why it’s no surprise that the first Resident Evil movie actually has very...

Before Netflix's reboot series Resident Evil set the internet on fire, director Johannes Roberts crafted an alternate take on the beloved video game. With "Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City," Roberts ignored Paul W.S. Anderson's popular film series adaptation and took the story back to its roots -- focusing on Shinji Mikami's groundbreaking survival horror tone in "Resident Evil" and "Resident Evil 2." Roberts has described his film as a love letter to the games, as his film chronicles the last days of the fictional Raccoon City. Once a booming company town, the declining town suffers a devastating outbreak of the T-virus -- thanks to the Umbrella Company -- that turns its residents into cannibalistic zombies.

Summer this year has been killer. Between record breaking heat waves, humidity that matches running a hot shower with the door shut, and just overall unpleasantness, it would come as no surprise that some people are looking to get away. Be it a cabin in the mountains, a house on the beach shore, or if you’re anything like me a secluded desert getaway.

For over 25 years, the Resident Evil franchise has been the premier name in horror gaming. Across that time, the series has delivered scares, thrills, and a series of stories that have gradually formed one of the most complicated and bizarre mythologies in all of gaming.
While there are a few somewhat forgettable Resident Evil stories, I find that the average Resident Evil story tends to be either bafflingly bad or the kind of narrative that helped to redefine the genre. Furthermore, you can easily lose your mind trying to keep up with the Resident Evil franchise’s ever-expanding lore and the various ways the many games in the franchise connect to each other. If you’ve ever lost yourself in that twisted timeline, you may even discover that it can be difficult to properly separate one Resident Evil story from another and judge them on their own merits.

Netflix’s new Resident Evil series points the franchise in a very unexpected direction, completely changing what we think we know about the villainous Albert Wesker. Played by Lance Reddick (Fringe) in the new streaming show, the Wesker of this series is much more than just a mad scientist hellbent on world domination — he’s also a family man with two daughters with their own teen drama to sort out. Jade (Ella Balinska/Tamara Smart) and Billie (Adeline Rudolph/Siena Agudong) give us an inside look into what it’s like growing up a Wesker, and by the end of the first season, we’ve learned just what it means to be tied to such a dark legacy.

Netflix’s Resident Evil is kicking off a new era for the franchise on the small screen. After years of movie adaptations starring Milla Jovovich and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, the franchise is shifting gears to tell a story unlike any we’ve ever seen on the big screen or in the games. This new Resident Evil series ditches Chris and Claire Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, and Jill Valentine to tell a modern-day story about Albert Wesker and his family.
Starring the great Lance Reddick as the classic Resident Evil villain, the series not only gives us a complete reimagining of the character as a family man but also introduces us to his two teen daughters, Jade (Ella Balinska/Tamara Smart) and Billie (Adeline Rudolph/Siena Agudong), who have their own issues to deal with, like having to upend their whole lives to move with their father to...

In the latest feature adaptation of the popular "Resident Evil" video game franchise, writer and director Johannes Roberts gave what gamers have been asking for since Paul W.S. Anderson's original film series: he delivered a film that was a faithful adaptation of the source material. Roberts' reboot borrowed elements from the "Resident Evil" and "Resident Evil 2" games, with "Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City" following Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy as they try to make their way through the Raccoon City Police Department overrun by the genetically mutated undead. Meanwhile, Claire's brother Chris, Jill Valentine, and Albert Wesker attempt to...

Hannah John-Kamen is no stranger to franchises in her young career, and her latest role as Jill Valentine in Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City joins seven other beloved properties in her filmography, including Star Wars, Game of Thrones and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City may not cleanly break the dreaded “video game movie curse,” but it is packed with Easter eggs and references that will surely please long-time Resident Evil fans who feel that some of the previous big-screen adaptations of this franchise strayed too far from the source material.
While Welcome to Raccoon City director Johannes Roberts previously talked to us about his desire to stay true to the games, it’s genuinely shocking to see all of the big and small ways that the movie borrows characters, moments, lines, and ideas directly from the games. While the film also makes some notable changes to Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2, it’s clear that far more attention was paid to honoring some of the most iconic elements of those legendary horror titles.

The Resident Evil films (six films from 2002-2016) starring Milla Jovovich have earned over $1 billion worldwide. The action movies were well-liked by international audiences but otherwise shunned by hardcore fans of the Resident Evil video game. When Resident Evil was first released, fans expected a faithful film adaptation but instead, what they got was something loosely (and I do mean Loosely) based on the games. Jovovich’s character Alice was explicitly created for the movies and didn’t appear in any of the game lore. With this misstep in the previous films, director Johannes Roberts intends to right these wrongs with the reboot titled Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, which aims to get back to basics by aiming to meet fan expectations.

As someone who has always loved the other Resident Evil film series, I was excited to see Johannes Roberts at the helm of the Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City reboot, which follows the first few installments of the popular video game series of the same name. And while this newest film does have a few issues, they weren’t enough to derail my overall enjoyment, as Roberts has done an incredible job of creating something that feels like it was plucked right out of the world of the Resident Evil games, which should make longtime fans pretty darned happy.
Based on the title alone, it probably comes as no surprise that this adaptation takes viewers into the ill-famed Raccoon City, where Umbrella Corporation has left the city in ruins now that it has achieved its nefarious goals and moved on. There are still some folks living in Raccoon City,...

Popular genre franchises never truly die; they’re always primed to rise from the grave in mutated modernized forms. Thus, following six feature films headlined by Milla Jovovich (and often spearheaded by director Paul W.S. Anderson), Capcom’s zombie video games get new big-screen life with “Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City,” a reboot that does away with its signature leading lady and aims for a more faithful adaptation of its interactive source material. That tack proves to be . Throw in chintzy CGI effects, and the theatrical prognosis for this undead saga appears dire.
Combining characters and premises from the Capcom series’ first two titles, “Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City” opens with a flashback to the youthful experiences of siblings Claire and Chris Redfield at an orphanage run by the Umbrella Corporation, a nefarious Big Pharma conglomerate that dominates midwestern hamlet Raccoon City. This prologue is revisited occasionally throughout the remainder of Roberts’ tale,...

It’s not easy to reboot a movie franchise, especially one which is close to 20 years old and based on a video game series that’s 25 years old.
But when it came to tackling a new iteration of Constantin/Screen Gems’ Resident Evil after longtime collaborators filmmaker Paul W.S. Anderson and star Milla Jovovich hung up their guns, British genre filmmaker Johannes Roberts saw the opportunity to take the zombie shooter series back to its roots — an angle that has fans of the game quite stoked. The pic opens wide November 24.
You can listen to our intriguing conversation with Roberts here:
While the previous Resident Evil movies through six installments developed a following of their own apart from the fans of the Capcom video game, the films were known for their flashy sci-fi style. Roberts brought the action back to Raccoon City, the dark and stormy night Midwest stomping ground of bioengineering corp Umbrella Company,...

When the first "Resident Evil'' movie dropped in 2002, it spawned a highly profitable horror franchise centered around an original character named Alice (Milla Jovovich). Inspired by the iconic video game series of the same name, the "Resident Evil" films lived and died by Alice, relegating characters from the games like Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, Ada Wong, Carlos Olivera, Chris Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, Barry Burton and antagonists Albert Wesker and James Marcus to second fiddle.

Before Resident Evil became a best-selling video game franchise, it was a passion project with a simple purpose: to scare the hell out of a generation of unsuspecting gamers. While 2002’s Resident Evil movie shared the 1996 game’s name, it emphasized sci-fi storytelling and action over scares. That movie—and the five sequels that followed—became box office hits, but ultimately divided video game fans who wondered if those movies really got the fabled franchise “right.”
For Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City director Johannes Roberts, the chance to reboot this franchise is less about correcting past mistakes than making the most out of the opportunity to explore what makes the games different.
“I had a great time with those movies,” Roberts says of the Resident Evil live-action films. “But as I’ve got older, I’m much more of a gamer than I’ve ever been…I approached...

The first images from “Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City” have been released and it looks far from a warm welcome for Leon S. Kennedy (Avan Jogia), Claire Redfield (Kaya Scodelario) and company.
The live-action horror film is based on the popular “Resident Evil” video game series. It’s the seventh “Resident Evil” film, though set apart from the first six films that starred Milla Jovovich.
Johannes Roberts (“47 Meters Down”) wrote and directed what is billed as a “return to the origin” of the franchise.

The upcoming Johannes Roberts-directed “Resident Evil” film now has a name: “Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.”
Roberts revealed the title and details of the movie’s plot during a panel with IGN’s Lucy O’Brien at SXSW on Saturday. Speaking about the genesis of the title, Roberts — who has directed both of the “47 Meters Down” films — said that the setting of Raccoon City plays a big role in the film.

The reveal of Resident Evil Village‘s release date and gameplay brings us that much closer to another entry into one of the more complicated (and sometimes confusing) timelines in video game history.
Granted, the Resident Evil timeline doesn’t stray too far from the release order of the games themselves, but subtle shifts in the storyline created by the occasional odd entry mean that it’s easy to lose track of how we got here. That’s why we’re going to try to help chart the Resident Evil timeline as it stands today.
For the purposes of this discussion, please note that we’re only talking about the Resident Evil games and not the live-action or animated movies. Furthermore, we’ve included some spinoffs but are ignoring games that are either largely irrelevant to the timeline (such as Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D) or have been removed from...
