Last Friday, which happened to be a Friday the 13th, screenwriters Damian Shannon and Mark Swift shared some pages from the script they wrote for the unmade sequel to the 2009 version of Friday the 13th (watch it Here). In those pages, we got to read the description of a scene where a character would have been killed by iconic masked slasher Jason Voorhees while riding down a zip line. But those weren’t the only pages Shannon and Swift shared from the script last Friday. They also unveiled a couple pages that reveal what happened to Jason’s dad – and you can read them in this embed:
Ok, since it's #FridayThe13th how about one more? Our sequel script had lots of stuff for long time fans, including returning characters! Let's reveal two of them now: https://t.co/WhNTVuo2Nx pic.twitter.com/yUdnv2L6bL

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift were the writers who cracked the Freddy vs. Jason story and pulled that project out of development hell, where it had been trapped for a decade. Six years later, when Warner Bros. teamed up with Paramount and Platinum Dunes for a Friday the 13th reboot, Shannon and Swift were again the writers. (You can hear all about that Friday the 13th in our latest Wtf Happened video.) Since the reboot made over $91 million at the global box office on a budget of $19 million when it was released in February of 2009, it was no surprise when it was announced that it was going to receive a sequel, to be shot in 3-D and released on August 13, 2010. Then the studios couldn’t agree on the money split, so the sequel was shelved… but not before Shannon and Swift had already written the full script. Today, to celebrate Friday the 13th,...

Directed by Marcus Nispel from a screenplay by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (who share a story credit with Mark Wheaton), Friday the 13th (2009) has the following synopsis: Against the advice of locals and police, Clay scours the eerie woods surrounding Crystal Lake for his missing sister. But the rotting cabins of an abandoned summer camp are not the only things he finds. Guest review by Dog Ate My Wookie
Stars: Lance Henriksen, Brianna Brown, Emily Foxler, Nick Mennell | Written by Mark E. Davidson | Directed by Roel Reiné
You begin to question after a while how many direct-to-dvd films — often in the sci-fi/horror categories as they’re undoubtedly the ones that spawn the craziest ideas – are released every month, most of which I’ve never even heard of. Primevil is the latest, with a DVD cover as ominous as the next.
When a group of friends are capsized after rescuing a wounded man from the sea, they’re stranded on a seemingly uninhabited island. Exploring the jungle the following day, they uncover a recently abandoned military camp and an archaeological dig site, but no people. Quickly, they’re led to believe that they’ve been followed, with the strange noises and unsettling movements in the distance proving that they’re most certainly not alone.

This week sees a ton of genre movies coming out on DVD and Blu- Ray. The biggest being Predators, followed up by the remake of the cult classic Night of the Demons, a sequel to Mirrors, and Anniversary editions for Rocky Horror Picture Show and Psycho. Add to that a slew of indie and classic horror and there is a lot to choose from.
Predators
Directed by Nimród Antal
Robert Rodriguez presents Predators, a bold new chapter in the Predator universe. Adrien Brody stars as Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors mysteriously brought together on a jungle planet. But when these cold-blooded human “predators” find themselves in all-out war against a new breed of alien Predators, it’s the ultimate showdown between hunter and prey. Predators also star Laurence Fishburne, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Walton Goggins, Danny Trejo, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Oleg Taktarov, and Louis Ozawa Changchien.

The number of home video releases on October 19th is not as abundant as in recent weeks, and fewer re-released titles means those that are available are much more special. In this batch one Adrien Brody flick competes with another, and at least two independent horror titles are making a splash. Two beloved classic films return in Blu-ray where one is supplemented by a documentary treatment of it.
Also, don't forget to strum & drum out with some tunes from Rob Zombie on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Finally, foreign horror gives us an over-the-top Japanese gorefest, a British zombie flick where the $70 budget was spent on tea and biscuits for the zombies, and Norwegian black metal.

Wow, is The Black Waters of Echo's Pond really Open Graves 2? Open Graves was just reviewed here today with a very similar plot. A group of young adults get together to play a board game that leads to their death. This is the plot exactly for Open Graves and for The Black Waters, which might make one think of simultaneous discovery. The present times create similar cultural discoveries like malicious board games. However, The Black Waters is not exactly like Open Graves, as the game only awakens the darkest emotions in each of the players. What happens next? Well, you will have to check out the trailer for the film below and if interested visit theatres playing The Black Waters April 9th. An Open Graves review is below that.

Warning: Confusion ahead.
Some of you keen eyed creature feature fans may have noticed that a little film called The Tribe was made and released last year. It starred Jewel Staite of Firefly and Stargate fame and was directed by Jorg Ihle. Well, for whatever reason that film was renamed The Forgotten Ones and a remake quickly went into production under the direction of Roel Reiné who changed the title to "Primal" (not to be confused with the upcoming low-budget Australian horror flick of the same name). You still with me? Good. Rumor is that Jewel was either too difficult to work with or not available to star in the remake (or perhaps just didn't feel like making the same bloody movie again) and so she's no longer in it. I'm outlining all this, because there seems to be all kinds of confusion surrounding which film is which and what...

When Marcus Nispel resurrected the Friday the 13th saga, it wasn’t immediately clear how much distance he was keeping between his new film and the old series. Even after years of wretched sequels mixed with good ones, the 2009 refresher still feels far too stale. Nispel fought hard to “forget” everything after Part II but in doing so lost the to gauge what’s new and different for the series. Jason may be leaner, the style sharper and more visceral, and the teenagers as stupid as ever, but this time Jason’s rebirth has more than its fair share of complications.
To its credit, Friday the 13th leaps into action right from the start. Instead of the introduction period which helped build up the original or slow down the second, this time the nudity and streams of blood come with a pleasing immediacy. Chicago – The reboot of “Friday the 13th” was another financially successful notch in the belt of Platinum Dunes, the film company behind the remakes of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “The Hitcher,” and “The Amityville Horror”. Making $90 million worldwide and more domestically than any previous Jason Voorhees movie (that didn’t include Freddy Krueger), “Friday the 13th” has a following that will be ecstatic with the excellent Blu-Ray release for the slasher title.
Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0 The Blu-Ray of “Friday the 13th” delivers everything fans could ask for.
