“Night Court” will be back in session.
The Melissa Rauch-led series has been renewed for a third season at NBC, the network announced Friday. Rauch stars in the reboot series as judge Abby Stone, who presides over the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment, with original cast member John Larroquette reprising his role as former night court district attorney Dan Fielding.
After debuting its freshman season in January 2023, “Night Court” returned for its second season in December 2023 following the Hollywood strikes. The workplace comedy currently ranks as NBC’s most-watched primetime comedy in both total viewers and the 18-49 demo, with Season 2 reaching 24 million viewers across linear and digital platforms to date.
Original cast member Marsha Warfield was reintroduced to fans of the sitcom at the end of Season 1 and reprised her role as Roz again for the Season 2 finale, which saw Roz tie the knot with her fiancé...

Imaginary, the latest team-up between Blumhouse and director Jeff Wadlow – who had previously collaborated on the 2018 film Truth or Dare and the 2020 horror version of Fantasy Island – reached theatres on March 8th, and it hasn’t set the box office on fire during its tow and a half week theatrical run, pulling in just under $29 million at the global box office. Now Lionsgate has given the film a PVOD (that’s Premium Video on Demand) and Pest (that’s Premium Electronic Sell-Through) release, so maybe more genre fans will check it out now that it’s available to watch in the comfort of our own homes.

Struggling to recall the last time the internet seemed like a force for good in the world? Yancey Strickler can cite the exact date: March 13, 2013.
That’s the day that Kickstarter’s co-founder and former CEO Strickler and writer/director Rob Thomas launched the “Veronica Mars” Movie Project on the then-four-year-old crowdfunding platform. Within 11 hours, tens of thousands of “Veronica Mars” fans opened their wallets to quickly hit the $2 million goal to bring Thomas’ low-rated high school detective series starring Kristen Bell as the eponymous teen gumshoe back from the TV graveyard as a feature film, which opened in theaters 10 years ago on March 14, 2014.
“It was just love — that’s what it felt like,” Strickler told IndieWire about being in the room with Thomas when the “Veronica Mars” campaign launched, and the fan-raised funds rolled in en masse. “There was a documentary crew there filming; the cast kept calling us,...

The upcoming episode of the NBC comedy gives Abby (Melissa Rauch) a new crush and Dan (John Larroquette) a new reason to be annoyed at work. Wyatt (Nyambi Nyambi) gets more than he bargained for when he asks Dan for a thank you. Ryan Hansen guest stars as the H.R. rep, Jake, who’s all smiles when he first meets Abby in the court room. After dipping into the world of H.P. Lovecraft in Re-Animator (listen) and checking out an early adaptation of The Portrait of Dorian Gray (listen), somehow we’re already on our third episode of February. And while the holiday doesn’t line up, we couldn’t pass up a chance to revisit Friday the 13th (2009) for its fifteenth anniversary.
In the Marcus Nispel remake, a group of friends travel to the palatial country house of Trent (Travis Van Winkle) near what was once Camp Crystal Lake. We’re just one month away from the March 8th theatrical release date of the horror film Imaginary, the latest team-up between Blumhouse and director Jeff Wadlow – who had previously collaborated on the 2018 film Truth or Dare and the 2020 horror version of Fantasy Island. With that date swiftly approaching, a new trailer for Imaginary has arrived online, and you can check it out in the embed above.
The film sees DeWanda Wise of Jurassic World: Dominion taking on the role of Jessica, who moves back into her childhood home with her family, and her youngest stepdaughter Alice develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey. Alice starts playing games with Chauncey that become increasingly sinister. As Alice’s behavior becomes more concerning, Jessica intervenes, only to realize Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believes him to be.
Wadlow wrote the screenplay for Imaginary with Greg Erb and Jason Oremland.

Not only do Blumhouse productions tend to have such low budgets that it’s difficult for them to fail, but the company also makes so much content that you never go too long without seeing a new release from them. So if one disappoints, they have another chance to impress soon after. The Exorcist: Believer wasn’t well-received? That’s okay, Five Nights at Freddy’s is right around the corner. Night Swim didn’t live up to the success they had with M3GAN last year? Well, let’s see how Imaginary does on March 8th. With the release of Imaginary just one month away, a new poster for the film has arrived online and can be seen at the bottom of this article.
Imaginary is the latest team-up between Blumhouse and director Jeff Wadlow – who had previously collaborated on the 2018 film Truth or Dare and the 2020 horror version of Fantasy Island.

Last Friday, which happened to be a Friday the 13th, screenwriters Damian Shannon and Mark Swift shared some pages from the script they wrote for the unmade sequel to the 2009 version of Friday the 13th (watch it Here). In those pages, we got to read the description of a scene where a character would have been killed by iconic masked slasher Jason Voorhees while riding down a zip line. But those weren’t the only pages Shannon and Swift shared from the script last Friday. They also unveiled a couple pages that reveal what happened to Jason’s dad – and you can read them in this embed:

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift were the writers who cracked the Freddy vs. Jason story and pulled that project out of development hell, where it had been trapped for a decade. Six years later, when Warner Bros. teamed up with Paramount and Platinum Dunes for a Friday the 13th reboot, Shannon and Swift were again the writers. (You can hear all about that Friday the 13th in our latest Wtf Happened video.) Since the reboot made over $91 million at the global box office on a budget of $19 million when it was released in February of 2009, it was no surprise when it was announced that it was going to receive a sequel, to be shot in 3-D and released on August 13, 2010. Then the studios couldn’t agree on the money split, so the sequel was shelved… but not before Shannon and Swift had already written the full script. Today, to celebrate Friday the 13th,...

This story about “Party Down” first appeared in the Comedy Series issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
What makes a good revival series? Ask the cast of “Party Down” and they’ll be the first to admit returning for a third season 13 years after the show went off the air was a risk — both commercially and creatively.

After a 13-year hiatus, Party Down, the comedy-drama about a group of aspiring actors in L.A. who work as caterers to make ends meet, made its return to Starz for a third season on Feb. 24. Unlike some of the show’s characters who, over time, have given up hope of playing their dream roles, the actors behind the series remained committed to reprising their parts in the cult classic.
“It wasn’t necessarily a matter of it anyone wanted to do it; it was just a matter of when and how,” said Adam Scott, who plays Henry Pollard, during a recent THR Presents panel powered by Vision Media. “The entire 13 years since we finished shooting season two, we’ve been talking about doing more.”
With the revival of Party Down came new additions to the ensemble cast, which includes Scott, Ken Marino, Jane Lynch, Megan Mullally, Ryan Hansen and Martin Starr.

At this point in Peak TV, it’s almost harder to think of an old, beloved series that hasn’t come back in some fashion — and yet, even within that landscape, Starz’s long-overdue third season of Party Down stands out as the rare revival that completely and utterly works. Within the first minutes of the premiere, it’s clear this cast and crew haven’t missed a step.
There’s Ryan Hansen as Kyle, impenetrably ditzy as ever, and Martin Starr as Roman, bitter as Kyle is upbeat. Jane Lynch’s woo-woo Constance is back, and so is Megan Mullally’s high-strung Lydia. A few months ago, we heard that director Jeff Wadlow and Blumhouse Productions – who had previously collaborated on the 2018 film Truth or Dare and the 2020 horror version of Fantasy Island – were teaming up for a new horror project called Imaginary, and Lionsgate has acquired the worldwide rights to the film. Now Lionsgate has announced that they will be giving Imaginary a theatrical release on February 2, 2024.
Wadlow has written the screenplay for Imaginary with Greg Erb, Jason Oremland, and Bryce McGuire, crafting a story that sounds like a horror take on the 1991 comedy Drop Dead Fred: A young woman returns to her childhood home only to discover that the imaginary friend she left behind is very real and very unhappy she left.
Lionsgate and Blumhouse are co-financing the project. Lionsgate and Blumhouse previously worked together on the 2012 release Sinister. Wadlow is producing the film alongside Blumhouse founder Jason Blum.

When Adam Scott was cast as struggling actor and cater waiter Henry Pollard on the Starz comedy “Party Down” back in 2008, there was a bit of art imitating life. Up to that point in his career, Scott had appeared on countless shows and in supporting roles in major films, but hadn’t yet broken through to mainstream success and name recognition.
“I connected very directly with the character in a lot of ways,” Scott tells Gold Derby in an exclusive video interview of getting cast on the series. “I think for everyone in the cast, we all had this connection to the predicament all these characters were in – it’s part of what bonded us to the show and to each other so intensely back then: This show about this specific thing made us feel better about that specific thing. And it was really good and super funny, and so fun.

Ken Marino credits his pal Adam Scott for making the unlikely and unexpected “Party Down” revival a reality. “Adam helped guide this and make this happen in a real way,” he tells Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast. “I think everybody in that cast recognized how special it was, and to just kind of go back and to get to do some more, to be with these people again, creatively, it’s a real gift.”
The first two seasons of “Party Down” aired on Starz in 2009 and 2010; the revival takes place a decade after the show’s last episode and features the returns of Marino as Ron, the slightly clueless catering manager who now owns the business — well, running it out of his van — and Scott as Henry, the sardonic failed actor who’s now a teacher and working on the side with Party Down to help pay for his alimony.

Lizzy Caplan is lying. Well, let’s rephrase that: Lizzy Caplan is selectively truth-telling. Lounging in a gray Texas Longhorns T-shirt and yellow-green leggings, Caplan has such a stripped-down, let’s-talk-about-it approachability, you would think we were having a late-night sleepover chat instead of a cross-continental Zoom. But before I tell you what Caplan’s not telling me, I’ll begin by saying that the ocean between us has no effect on the quality of conversation. We are digging into everything — Caplan’s blizzard of a work year, parenting a...

After waiting 13 years for the long-discussed Season 3 revival of the Starz comedy Party Down, will fans have to wait just as long for another installment?
“Probably,” said showrunner and EP John Enbom today at Deadline’s Contenders TV. “But hopefully [it’ll come] sooner.”
“We would love to do more, and Starz has been so incredible with the show this season that we would do anything to work with them some more,” added actor-ep Adam Scott. “It would be fun.”
Related: The Contenders TV – Deadline’s Full Coverage
The series co-created by Enbom, Rob Thomas, Dan Etheridge and Paul Rudd originally ran for two critically acclaimed seasons from 2009-2010, lingering as a cult classic in the years since after being cancelled in part due to low ratings. It in its first two seasons introduced a troupe of creatives hoping to make it big in Hollywood, as they stumble through their lives, working for a Los Angeles catering company.

This post contains spoilers for the Season 3 finale of “Party Down”
It took almost the entire season, but “Party Down” fans finally got a long-awaited reunion between Henry (Adam Scott) and Casey (Lizzy Caplan). In the Season 3 finale episode tag, a disillusioned Casey returns to Los Angeles to promote her latest project and finally reconnects with Henry during the press junket. The brief interaction, where Casey reveals she hasn’t found happiness even in success and might seek to explode her current life and return to the city and presumably Henry, sets up another season of the cult comedy that would presumably feature Caplan in a starring role. Or, if “Party Down” never returns to Starz, it serves as an unresolved finish reminiscent of “The Graduate.”

After a 13-year hiatus, the third season of “Party Down” premiered on Starz last month, proving it’s still the most underrated laugh riot on TV. The series boasts an all-star cast including Adam Scott, Ken Marino, Jane Lynch, Jennifer Coolidge and Megan Mullally, working as caterers whose hopes at Hollywood superstardom have been dashed.
With a stellar rating of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, the critics’ consensus reads, “Returning after a long layoff, Party Down brings patient fans a third season that’s every bit as sharp — and laugh-out-loud funny — as its predecessors.” Ignored by major awards shows for its first two cycles, the comedy created by John Enbom, Dan Etheridge, Paul Rudd and Rob Thomas won the AFI TV Program of the Year Award in 2010, where they called it “wickedly funny” and “television’s best-kept secret.” Read our review roundup for Season 3 below.

Party Down is cringe-comedy at its finest. These characters and this cast continue to set the bar high.
On Party Down Season 3 Episode 2, Evie throws Jack a surprise party, not anticipating everything that could go wrong and how little everyone cares.
In this post-pandemic era, parties feel a little more special than they used to. We've all been to our share of long-delayed parties.
Underneath the jokes and discomfort, Party Down is so relatable at its core, which is a big part of the appeal.
Many industries suffered, and, of course, catering was one of them. Plenty of small businesses were left scrambling to stay afloat.
The cast was over a decade younger in the original two seasons, and they still had some hopefulness.
This season stands in contrast. Those of us who watched it then are also older, and many of us have been through something similar.

The following post contains spoilers about "Party Down" season 3.
The third season of the beloved cult favorite comedy series "Party Down" is finally upon us, and longtime fans are rejoicing. The new six-episode run sees most of the original cast returning, including Adam Scott, Ken Marino, Ryan Hansen, Martin Starr, Megan Mullally, and Jane Lynch. Set roughly ten years after the events of season 2, the thankless life of caterers in Los Angeles hasn't gotten any easier, although some of the wannabe actors and comedians have managed to escape the daily drudgery to have successful careers in the cutthroat entertainment business.
Former child actor Henry Pollard (Scott) has lost his girlfriend Casey Klein (Lizzy Caplan) to fame and fortune, and bo-hunk Kyle Bradway (Hansen) is on the verge of blockbuster stardom with a big role in a ridiculous science fiction franchise. Are we having fun yet?
On Party Down Season 3 Episode 1, after a protracted absence, the answer is an unqualified yes!
It's been 13 years since we last saw Henry Pollard, Ron Donald, Kyle Bradway, Roman DeBeers, and the rest of the Party Down gang.
First and foremost, it would be difficult to go awry with such a hilarious cast. This Cast, people! It's a comedy dream team.
You've got Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, and Megan Mullally for a start. Jennifer Garner and James Marsden are there to join in on the fun. Credit must also go to the slightly lesser-known but equally hilarious Ken Marino, Martin Starr, and Ryan Hansen.
Jane Lynch's comedic style has never quite been to my taste (as my reviews of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Only Murders In The Building can attest), but she is just perfect in this.
Ensemble comedy is one hundred percent her forte.

Revivals have been all the rage in Hollywood for the last few years, but for “Party Down,” there’s essentially been talk of some kind of reunion or continuation since it was canceled in 2010. At long last, 13 years later, Season 3 has arrived.
The half-hour comedy series launched in 2009, a story of Hollywood malaise as told through the eyes of the workers at a catering company, with each episode taking place at a different event. Ahead of its time, the ensemble cast ranged from Adam Scott to Lizzy Caplan to Jane Lynch to Martin Starr, all of whom would go on to star in massively successful shows of their own in the ensuing years.
While the series wasn’t formally canceled until after Season 2 aired, Adam Scott said he had an inkling during the filming of the second season finale that they wouldn’t be back.

“Party Down” was an underdog show about underdogs — out-of-luck caterers who dreamed of one day rubbing shoulders with Hollywood rainmakers rather than serving them hors d’oeuvres.
In the series, which ran on Starz for two seasons (2009-10), an ensemble cast led by Adam Scott and Ken Marino paraded around Los Angeles, working funerals, orgies and everything in between. The scrappy comedy got creative with a small budget, centering episodes around a corporate picnic or a one-man birthday party, which didn’t require hiring extras. Showrunner and co-creator John Enbom says the team wouldn’t pitch a “dog wedding,” for example, because they knew they “couldn’t afford to hire 20 animal trainers.”
“Party Down” drew a cult following and critical acclaim — but also low ratings, so it was canceled by Starz, the underdog premium cabler. Since then, the show has enjoyed a second life on Hulu, picking up viewers who...

What would happen if “Glee” cutthroat cheer coach Sue Sylvester met ditzy “Party Down” actor Constance Carmell? Well, according to Jane Lynch, the performer behind both characters, the two would actually get along quite nicely.
“I think they’d be fast friends,” Lynch told Variety at the Season 3 premiere of “Party Down.” “Constance is not the smartest person in the world, but she’s confident in her own goodness. And she has great self-esteem, and deep down inside Sue Sylvester does not. They would be a great…good cop, bad cop. They could do a comic cop show, but I would have to play both characters, and it would be a lot more. Wouldn’t it be great, though?”

Plot: Ten years later, most of the Party Down catering team have moved on, including actor/bartender Henry Pollard (Adam Scott). After a surprise reunion, the gang find themselves once again stoically enduring the procession of random parties and oddball guests all over Los Angeles.
Review: In 2010, Starz cancelled Party Down after only two seasons on the air. Whether it was due to Jane Lynch joining Glee or Adam Scott joining Parks & Recreation, the hilarious series about a crew of cater-waiters joined the pantheon of shows that developed a devoted fan following. After rumors of revivals and feature films, Party Down is finally back for a third season with most of the main cast back. Set a decade after the last season, Party Down is as funny as ever, with new characters joining the fray for a six episode run that mines how much fame and Hollywood celebrity have...

Jennifer Garner isn’t afraid to step outside her comfort zone for comedy. The actress joined the new third season of the cult comedy classic “Party Down”, and one particular episode called for her character to trip out on magic mushrooms — which was an experience she’s not particular familiar with.
“I haven’t seen the episode,” Garner told Et’s Will Marfuggi on the carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of “Party Down”‘s third season on Wednesday. “It was terrifying — any time I have to play inebriated, or any altering anything — to me. I don’t have a lot of experience.”
“But Ken Marino really held my hand, and he was an amazing director,” Garner added with a smile. “He really made me feel as good as one can feel when they are standing on their head.”

Over a decade after serving up sarcasm and canapés, the aspiring actors of Party Down are back. The cult-favorite comedy series that first aired in 2009 has been revived for its third season on Starz, reuniting returning stars Adam Scott, Ken Marino, Martin Starr, Ryan Hansen and Jane Lynch and bringing on newcomers Jennifer Garner, Zoë Chao and Tyrel Jackson Williams. (Original star Lizzy Caplan was unable to join due to scheduling conflicts.)
Premiering Feb. 24, the latest season kicks off with Kyle (Hansen), who is on the verge of stardom and hires his old catering employer, Party Down, for an event and invites former colleagues Henry (Scott), Lydia (Mullally) and Constance (Lynch) as party guests. Ron (Marino) manages the business and Roman (Starr) is still on the team,...

The great frustration of Party Down failing to find an audience when it aired on Starz in 2009 and 2010 didn’t stem from how good the show was. I’m used to great shows not generating big numbers.
No, what rankled was that if you looked at the ratings for Party Down, you’d get the impression that it was in some way an esoteric show, intended for a niche demographic. The reality was that not only was Party Down packed with already-familiar actors who have only become more familiar and more beloved in the subsequent decade; it was also a really broad, really accessible, often downright zany show. Sure, it was a bit smarter than your average bear and its perspective on Hollywood-adjacent culture was a bit inside-baseball. But it was structured as a reasonably traditional workplace sitcom, one with an endlessly renewable narrative engine that should have set it...

When "Party Down" was cancelled in 2010, fans of the acclaimed catering company comedy clamored for a comeback. Thirteen years later, Starz finally complied and have started the party once again by bringing back the series created by John Enbom, Rob Thomas, Dan Etheridge, and Paul Rudd. However, the sitcom, which stars Adam Scott, Ken Marino, Ryan Hansen, Martin Starr, Jane Lynch, and Megan Mullally (but unfortunately not Lizzy Caplan due to scheduling conflicts), is only returning for a six-episode third season. But it sounds like this won't be the last hurrah for our beloved caterers.
With the past two seasons clocking in at ten episodes each, many are wondering why the comeback is cut a little short. But on the flip side, maybe it means that there's actually more story to be told. During a recent roundtable discussion with Hansen and Starr, /Film's Ryan Scott asked whether the show would...
