Each week on “The Pit Stop,” Trixie Mattel recaps the latest episode of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 alongside a guest host. Following Friday’s fifth episode, season 14 queen Maddy Morphosis made her debut on the show and proved why she would be a great future host. Watch the full episode above via the official RuPaul’s Drag Race channel on YouTube.
In their recap of the episode, both Trixie and Maddy gave Q grace for her emotional reaction to being safe yet again because they see her as someone so very close to a win that they can understand the sting of not getting it. When it comes to Plane Jane‘s villain edit, Trixie can appreciate that Jane shouldn’t “punch down” in her comments on Amanda Tori Meating‘s drag, but at the end of the day it’s making good cat fights that we haven’t seen on the show in a while.

When it came to this live, one-take challenge both Kahmora and Trixie think that the pressure of only having one take actually is a benefit for the queens because they have no opportunity to get in their head with their inner saboteur.

It took almost 30 years and a little bit of magic to deliver Hocus Pocus 2. The original film, released in 1993, wasn’t a hit with audiences or critics, and it’s believed that the film may have lost about 16.5 million in its original theatrical run. However, through positive word of mouth and annual screenings on the Disney Channel and Freeform (formerly ABC Family), Hocus Pocus eventually caught on with the audiences that mattered and became a solid home video grosser for the House of Mouse. With legacy sequels en vogue and nostalgia constantly mined by the big studios, Poof, production began on Hocus Pocus 2.
The original film centered on the Sanderson Sisters, three Salem witches condemned to death in 1693 after they drained the life force of a young girl and cursed her brother to live an eternity as a black cat. Before their execution, the witches cast a curse...

Disney has released the official trailer for “Hocus Pocus 2,” in which the Sanderson sisters will once again put a spell on you. The new trailer debuted at the D23 Expo with an introduction from Disney Chairman Alan Bergman.
“It is a film that exists thanks to the overwhelming love all of you have here for the Sanderson sisters,” Bergman shared before re-introducing the crowd to a cute produced video hello from the sisters themselves.
Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy and Doug Jones are reprising their roles from the original 1993 film. Hannah Waddingham, Tony Hale, Sam Richardson, Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo and Whitney Peak also star in the sequel, along with “Drag Race” queens Ginger Minj, Kahmora Hall and Kornbread “The Snack” Jeté.
Waddingham’s role was revealed to be the witch who gives young Midler the book of magic, thus revealing a 370 year secret as to how the Sanderson sisters became magical.

Salem’s Sanderson Sisters—Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimi—are back this Halloween in “Hocus Pocus 2” on Disney+. The streamer just launched the first teaser, which shows how two teen girls (Whitney Peak and Lilia Buckingham) resurrect the charmed triumvirate with some incantations and candles probably not purchased at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
The 1993 original, directed by Kenny Ortega and written by Mick Garris and Neil Cuthbert, is a cult film in the truest sense of the word, and not just because of its occultist themes. The campy-spooky witch picture didn’t connect with critics at the time, and was a box office dud.
But the movie, which began its life as a story producer David Kirschner dreamed up as a bedtime story for his kids, eventually found its audience. Like the witches themselves, it had an afterlife, with repeat airings on ABC Family and the Disney Channel.

The last time the witches of “Hocus Pocus” were revived, it took three centuries. This time around, it’s only been about three decades.
The Sanderson sisters — Winifred (Bette Midler), Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Mary (Kathy Najimy) — are almost back, and the first teaser trailer for “Hocus Pocus 2” has been released, giving a first taste of the wickedness to come. The sequel premieres on Disney+ on Sept. 30, just in time for the Halloween season.
“Hocus Pocus” premiered in 1993, telling the story of three wicked sisters in Salem, Mass., who spent 300 years asleep before the lighting of the Black Flame Candle, which resurrects them on All Hallow’s Eve with a full moon in the sky. They face off against young Max Dennison (Omri Katz) and sister Dani (Thora Birch), who have to stop the witches from becoming immortal before the sun rises. In episode 5 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 14, RuPaul Charles brought back pork chopped queens Tempest DuJour, Jaymes Mansfield and Kahmora Hall to inspire a PSAs spoof challenge. Jorgeous fell into the bottom two, but lived up to Ru’s declaration that she’s “born to do drag” by handily beating Orion Story in the Lip Sync for Your Life. In addition, Kornbread “The Snack” Jeté surprised us all by announcing that she’d be leaving the competition on doctor’s orders after rolling her ankle.
This week, the 10 remaining queens dive into Michelle Visage’s discarded online shopping boxes for materials in an unconventional materials sewing challenge. Read below for our recap of episode 6 to see how they put the pieces together in “Glamazon Prime.”
The 12 remaining queens are: Angeria Paris VanMicheals, Bosco, Daya Betty, DeJa Skye, Jasmine Kennedie, Jorgeous, Kerri Colby, Lady Camden, Maddy Morphosis, and Willow Pill.

On last Friday’s fifth episode of “RuPaul’s Drag Race 14,” Orion Story’s second chance came to an end after she failed to impress the judges in the “Save a Queen” public service announcement. As the season’s episode one eliminated queen, Orion’s departure on an episode that featured other pork chopped queens Tempest DuJour, Jaymes Mansfield and Kahmora Hall seemed fitting, and based on our recent poll, 86% of viewers agreed with the judges’ decision. Scroll down for your complete poll results at the bottom of this post.
In the PSA challenge, Orion struggled to resonate with the judges because of flat line delivery and a lack of character-building. Ahead of the taping, RuPaul Charles asked her to find a way to make the challenge fun and stressed the importance of adding “flavor” to a character through behavior. After the taping, Orion was confident in her performance and...

In episode 4 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 14, RuPaul Charles divided the queens into two groups to write and film superteaser spoofs in promotion of their own season. The comedy acting challenge was an opportunity to see the girls break out of their comfort zone and get a little bit “ugly,” but Kerri Colby kept to her own pretty ways and Alyssa Hunter played her character in one and only one note. In a decision the audience did not agree with, the judges sent Alyssa home, leaving only 12 queens to continue to compete for the crown.
This week, the remaining queens divide into groups yet again to create public service announcements aimed at protecting the careers of our dearly departed queens, gone too soon. It's the end of the road for two queens on RuPaul's Drag Race Season 14 Episode 5.
Injuries happen on Drag Race, and it's not the first time a queen has had to be medically pulled from the competition. So, it's not surprising for the possibility to pop up. However, it's sad for anyone to lose out on their dream due to something out of their control.
And for the removal to be one of the expected Top 4 queens, her exit was a shocking reveal.
Before her news, did anyone expect Kornbread "The Snack" Jeté to leave early on?
Kornbread had the most confessionals so far in the competition. Drag Race had been setting her up as the "narrator", and she seemed like a lock for the finals.
The feeling from her abrupt exit proved that the editing wanted us to get to know Kornbread and feel for her when she had to go.

There’s really no shortage of ways to leave RuPaul’s Drag Race. You can sashay away with dignity after losing a lip sync, you can get disqualified for breaking the rules, you can fall on your own stiletto and send yourself home, or as we saw with one fan-favorite queen on Friday, you can be knocked out of the game due to an injury.
Needless to say, Kornbread “The Snack” Jeté‘s fellow contestants were gagged when the frontrunner appeared via video message to inform them that she rolled her ankle during last week’s acting challenge and needs...

Also in the episode, Monét gives Maddy Morphosis a hard time for taking so long to get comfortable in the competition (including a questionable choice for the JLo runway) and they share the perspective that having Carson Kressley and Michelle Visage on set as directors is an intimidating experience. As far as the super teaser final products, Laganja thought that Willow’s group was a cut above and that everyone had a moment.

Grab your cups, Drag Race fans. The "reunion" on RuPaul's Drag Race Season 13 Episode 15 was more of a clip show than an actual reunion.
Reunions give the queens a chance to discuss any plots and drama to work through what happened during the competition. Instead of a collaborative night, everything seemed separated and segmented.
Too much filler for a night that should've been one to get viewers excited for the grand finale.
"Reunited" is the case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
The Drag Race reunions had found their rhythm since RuPaul's Drag Race Season 9 when they became a separate episode to get the queens together. Previously, most reunions got looped into the finales with small segments and chats.
The change in recent seasons was a breath of fresh air because it created one of the most anticipated hours and always delivered on bringing key discussions/drama.

Ahead of next week’s grand finale, the queens of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 13 reunited (mostly virtually) on Friday to spill some tea, throw some shade and, most importantly, promote some Bubly Bounce. (Symone deserves an Emmy for that delivery.)

A flat performance in a soda-themed challenge got another competitor canned on Friday’s Drag Race, leaving us with but a six-pack of queens.
Following an arousing — sorry, make that a rousing — game of Are You Smarter Than the Pit Crew?, which challenged the queens’ knowledge of Drag Race institutions like Lil’ Poundcake and the Interior Illusions Lounge, the group was presented with this week’s maxi challenge: to create and brand a soft drink, design the can, produce and star in a commercial, and write a catchy jingle. You know, totally normal things that all drag queens do in their day-to-day lives.

From slaying homophobia to slaying fierce looks, drag queens are tough — and the 13 seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race are a testament to that. However, the 13th season of the Emmy-winning reality competition was a different experience for RuPaul and the queens as it was filmed during the Covid-19 pandemic. VH1 and World of Wonder will give audiences a look at the challenges and the triumphs of taping the new season in the documentary RuPaul’s Drag Race: Corona Can’t Keep a Good Queen Down.
Airing February 26 at 8 p.m. Et/Pt on VH1, the stand-alone special displays World of Wonder’s documentary skills as it captures the emotions surrounding the experience. From the combination of hope and anxiety of the early days to creative challenges prepping and executing the show, the docu shows the resilience of Drag Race as it found ways to safely produce the show.

This season on “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” it apparently pays off to win early. In the premiere episode, host RuPaul Charles separated the queens into two groups based on whether they won or lost their initial head-to-head lip syncs. The champs celebrated by calling themselves the “A-Team,” while the losers entered the Pork Chop Lounge and had to vote out one of their own on the spot. The two groups reunited weeks later, which is when the Season 13 competition truly began. Three queens have been eliminated so far, but none of them have been from the original “A-Team.” Hmm, is there a Pork Chop curse?

In last weeks episode of Ru Paul’s Drag Race we bid farewell to the gorgeous Kahmora Hall, which must be particularly difficult considering her ‘sister’ Jaida Essence Hall won the previous season of Drag Race. We also bore witness to one of the greatest lip-sync performances in drag race herstory by the dancing diva Denali, who has now lip-synced in every episode of this season (and killed every one of them… **Spoiler alert** the streak ends in this episode.) This weeks episode starts with a discussion between all the queens about the previous challenge, which led to a heated argument between Tamisha and Kandy Muse, as Kandy believed that Symone was her biggest competition (as she has now won two challenges so far this season) and Tamisha felt as if she was overlooking every other queen in the competition. While I understand that Tamisha was there to stand up...

Last week on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 13, figure skater Denali took the stage for her second lip sync of the season, this time as a bottom queen and against her Chicago sister Kahmora Hall. In what was one of the most clear cut decisions in “Drag Race” history, Denali vogued the house down and saved herself. Her triumph overshadowed the actual challenge winner of the week, Symone, who earned her second win of the season.
This week, the competition continued with a “Bag Ball Extravaganza,” requiring the queens to prove their creativity to the judges by walking the runway in three different looks inspired by bags.

Based on overwhelming Gold Derby predictions, the contestant most likely to win Season 13 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” is Symone. Right now this 25-year-old Los Angeles resident tops all of the other queens on Gold Derby’s winner’s chart, and really, is anyone surprised? She’s won two out of two maxi challenges so far, plus she sent Tamisha Iman to the Pork Chop lounge in the first episode. In other words, Symone has a perfect track record as we head into Friday’s fifth episode.

Symone currently leads our racetrack odds at 12/5, followed by Gottmik in second place at 37/10 odds. Gottmik is a 23-year-old queen from Los Angeles who has yet to win a main challenge, though she did join the “winner’s lounge” in the season premiere after succeeding at her initial lip sync against Utica Queen. After three episodes of a “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 13 without a permanent elimination, we were excited to see the melodrama officially start with all 13 queens finally being in the werk room together to compete for the world’s most coveted crown. The reunion of the winning queens with the losing queens caused some friction among a few girls and ultimately led to one of them succumbing to challenge of the multi-faceted competition.
Last week the losing group from the season premiere challenge faced off in three runway walks and a group performance of Ru’s song “Phenomenon.” Denali and Rosé faced off in a “lip sync for the win” as the top two with Denali getting her first win under her belt. This week marked the first time the entire cast would be together and compete in a mini and maxi challenge in order to determine the first queen eliminated.

Well, it took four full weeks, but the first queen has finally been eliminated from RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 13. (Our condolences, by the way.)
Friday’s episode brought the “winning” and “losing” teams together for the first time all season (and with a shady little twist to boot). While Elliott With 2 Ts hid just off screen, the winners asked the losers why they chose to vote Elliott out, with Kahmora Hall replying, “I just really didn’t get what her drag style was” — words she would find herself eating seconds later when Elliott emerged for yet another Drag Race face crack.

The first and second episodes of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” concluded with shocking non-eliminations that showed the queens that RuPaul Charles ain’t playing around this season–she is ready to stress them out, wear them out and do everything she can to make them turn it out. By the end of the premiere the set of 13 queens were divided into two groups based on first impression lip syncs: a Winner’s Circle and the girls they beat, the Pork Chop Queens.

Herstory is repeating itself on RuPaul's Drag Race Season 13 Episode 3.
Just like the lip-sync winners before them, the Pork Chop Loading Bay queens faced off in a team girl group challenge as well. The week is almost a mirror image to RuPaul's Drag Race Season 13 Episode 2. Right down to the runway Mini Challenge.
No one went home. Fashionable looks were served. Unfortunately, it all felt very expected.
This isn't the first time Drag Race cloned the same round two weeks in a row. Let's not forget the split premieres for RuPaul's Drag Race Season 12 Episode 1 and RuPaul's Drag Race Season 12 Episode 2.
That premiere covered the same structure with a fashion runway and a group challenge.
The difference here, however, is that the queens are now in their third week of the competition. Seriously, we've made it three rounds without a queen going home!

“Symone, you’re a winner, baby.” That’s what an overwhelming number of people think will be heard in the Season 13 finale of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” according to early predictions. Right now this 25-year-old Los Angeles resident tops all of the other queens on Gold Derby’s winner’s chart, thanks no doubt to her maxi challenge triumph during last week’s second episode. Symone and Olivia Lux were declared the top two of the week, but Symone secured her victory by winning the lip sync challenge to Dua Lipa‘s “Break My Heart.” Yes, that means Symone is the only queen this season to win two lip syncs … so far.

The winning queens came to slay (and slay they did).
On RuPaul's Drag Race Season 13 Episode 2, it was a non-elimination round for the queens who came out on top during the premiere. Instead of competing for safety, they got another chance to show their star quality and potential snag some cash.
These rounds aren't the most exciting reality TV weeks, but if you love the fabulousness of drag, this round is right up your alley.
Did anyone actually believe the queen who got the chop would be eliminated?
During last week's review of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 13 Episode 1, I theorized the possibility but stuck in the camp, it wasn't going to happen. There's no way Mama Ru would give up that control, especially during a mainline season.
It seems my guess was right ... it was all for the drama.

The seven losers — — Denali, Elliott with 2 Ts, Joey Jay, Kahmora Hall, Rosé, Tamisha Iman and Utica Queen — got the pork chop. At the end of the premiere, RuPaul Charles revealed that they would have to vote out one of their own.
