Between Pusha T, Kendrick Lamar, Anthony Fantano, and many more, we’ve heard some pretty good Drake disses over the years. But now, Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def) is giving everyone a run for their money with a new diss of epic proportions. Evoking the literal collapse of modern civilization to drive his point home, the seasoned rapper said that Drizzy’s output is less “hip-hop” and more like shopping at Target.
The comments came during Bey’s recent appearance on the fashion podcast The Cutting Room Floor when host, Recho Omondi, asked point-blank if he considered Drake “hip-hop.” After a pause — and a begrudging “Why are you doing this to me?” — Bey unleashed his opinion: “Drake is pop to me. Louis Cato, who took over from Jon Batiste as bandleader for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, is getting to drop his sophomore record.
Cato is releasing Reflections on August 11.
Cato has been with the CBS late-night show since its inception and took over from Batiste at the start of its eighth season, after filling in last summer.
Colbert called him “very humble”.
“He’s a musical genius. He can play basically every instrument over there. Give him an afternoon, he’ll learn how to play Mozart on a shoehorn,” the late-night host.
Reflections, which features the eponymous title track (see below), was recorded at Sugar Mountain Studios in Brooklyn, New York and was engineered by Jack DeBoe, who produced the record with Cato.
Cato studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and has played with the likes of John Legend, Talib Kweli, A Tribe Called Quest, Jack White and Bobby McFerrin.
Cato is releasing Reflections on August 11.

Talib Kweli and Madlib dropped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon for the late-night debut of “Air Quotes,” one of the standout tracks from the rapper-producer team’s recently released collaborative album, Liberation 2.
“Air Quotes” notably features the first collaboration between Kweli and his daughter, Diani, who provides vocals on the track. Both Diani and Kweli’s son, Amani, accompanied their father for the late-night performance. Watch the replay below.

Los Angeles, Jan 25 (Ians) Comedian Dave Chappelle released the second episode of his ‘The Midnight Miracle’ podcast with co-hosts Talib Kweli and Yasiin Bey and confronted the backlash that has surrounded him for years regarding jokes that many perceive as being ‘anti-trans’.
Last July, Minneapolis’ First Avenue club cancelled a Chappelle comedy show due to the backlash.
The venue apologised to the community for booking Chappelle and vowed to keep the club a “safe space”, reports ‘Variety’.
“I guess apparently they had made a pledge to the public at large that they would make their club a safe space for all people, and that they would ban anything they deemed transphobic,” he said on the podcast.
“This is a wild stance for an artistic venue to take, especially one that’s historically a punk rock venue.”
Chappelle ended up playing Minneapolis at a different venue, the Varsity Theatre, which attracted large groups of protesters.
Last July, Minneapolis’ First Avenue club cancelled a Chappelle comedy show due to the backlash.

Comedian Dave Chappelle released the second episode of his ‘The Midnight Miracle’ podcast with co-hosts Talib Kweli and Yasiin Bey and confronted the backlash that has surrounded him for years regarding jokes that many perceive as being ‘anti-trans’.
Last July, Minneapolis’ First Avenue club cancelled a Chappelle comedy show due to the backlash.
The venue apologised to the community for booking Chappelle and vowed to keep the club a “safe space”, reports ‘Variety’.

Warner Music Group announced Monday that it has partnered with Roku to launch three, genre-based Fast channels, exclusively on The Roku Channel, the platform’s free streaming service.
The new channels – Wmx Pop, Wmx Rock, and Wmx Hip-Hop – are free to stream on The Roku Channel, through the service’s Live TV Guide.
Each of the channels will feature music videos and concerts from Warner Music’s catalog of artists as well as original programming from the company’s media brands, including Uproxx, HipHopDX, Songkick, Cover Nation, The Pit and Lasso Nation.

Dave Chappelle will be returning to Rockefeller Center’s Studio 8H this weekend to host “Saturday Night Live”, marking the comedian’s third time as host.
In a trio of new promos, Chappelle is joined by “SNL” cast member Ego Nwodim and the episode’s musical guest, rap duo Black Star.
In the first promo, Nwodim attempts to “tag along” with Chappelle for Thanksgiving with his family, while the second promo finds Chappelle making a declaration.

Academy and Grammy Award-winning artist Jon Batiste is leaving ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ after seven seasons, Colbert announced Thursday night on the show.
He’s exiting to “pursue personal and professional interests”. Louis Cato, who has served as interim bandleader this summer, will take over on a permanent basis and Colbert’s band, which previously had been called “Stay Human” under Batiste’s direction, will be renamed ‘The Late Show Band’, reports ‘Variety’.
Cato will take over permanently when the show returns for its eighth season on Tuesday, September 6.
“Louis has done a great job this summer, and he is very humble, so he won’t say this. But I will. He’s a musical genius,” Colbert said.
“He can play basically every instrument over there. Give him an afternoon, he’ll learn how to play Mozart on a shoehorn.”

Deadline broke the news late last night that Dave Chappelle was attacked by a man while onstage at the Hollywood Bowl. Today, the comedian and Netflix, which produced the festival of which the show was a part, both issued press statements on the matter.
A Chappelle spokesperson sought to put the emphasis back on the comedian’s run of shows at the Bowl as part of the Neflix Is a Joke Festival.
“Dave Chappelle celebrated four nights of comedy and music, setting record-breaking sales for a comedian at the Hollywood Bowl,” read the statement. “This run ties Chappelle with Monty Python for the most headlined shows by any comedian at the Hollywood Bowl, reaching 70k fans of diverse backgrounds during the first Netflix Is A Joke: The Festival, and he refuses to allow last night’s incident to overshadow the magic of this historic moment.”

Netflix has issued a statement after Dave Chappelle was attacked on stage while performing a comedy set during the streaming giant’s Netflix Is a Joke festival in Los Angeles. The performance was taking place at the Hollywood Bowl. A spokesperson for the streamer said, “We care deeply about the safety of creators and we strongly defend the right of stand-up comedians to perform on stage without fear of violence.”

Controversial comedian Dave Chappelle was attacked near the conclusion of his act during a performance at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday night. Security personnel took the assailant down and he was later carted away on a stretcher. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to the NBC affiliate in Los Angeles that the attacker had a weapon that could release a knife blade “when you discharge it correctly,” although it wasn’t clear if the unnamed person attempted to use the item. Chappelle appeared not to be seriously harmed.
