The Lion King – Featuring the voices of Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala and Donald Glover as Simba, Disney’s “The Lion King” is directed by Jon Favreau. © 2019 Disney Enterprises, Inc. All Rights Reserved. When Disney made the original animated version of The Lion King, the studio invested heavily in the film’s music, enlisting Elton John and lyricist Tim Rice for the film’s original songs and Hans Zimmer for its score. Of course, it was an investment that paid off handsomely — the soundtrack album has sold more than 7 million copies, and all four of The Lion King’s Oscar nominations were for the film’s music. When the studio decided to remake the film in 2019, director Jon Favreau was faced with a lot of choices about how he wanted to make his film different than the original. At the time of the film’s release, Favreau told us he realized that,...

Beyonce‘s career breakthrough came in the 1990s as a teenage member of Destiny’s Child. But since then she has established herself as one of the biggest music stars of the 21st century. So naturally it’s challenging to narrow down the greatest hits of her career … not that we let that stop us from trying, though. Scroll down for our countdown of her best songs — including “Countdown”! Do you agree with how we rank them?
Destiny’s Child had several hits including “Survivor” and “Bills, Bills, Bills,” but it was “Say My Name” that earned Beyonce her first Grammys when she was only 19: Best R&b Duo/Group Performance and Best R&b Song. She has since become one of the most awarded individuals in Grammy history, the most awarded woman in history, and the most nominated woman in history. But most of the top categories have eluded her.

Cody Rhodes has one of the most intriguing WWE storylines, one that has had fans captivated ever since its debut. However, despite the twists and turns that plague the story, fans have found a very unusual connection between the story that Rhodes is playing out and the storyline of Dinsey’s most popular animated story.
Cody Rhodes
Fans have equated the beats of the storyline that Rhodes has been following with Lion King, the seminal Disney classic that adapted William Shakespeare’s Hamlet for its young audience. The plot beats and the characters have been mapped out by audiences in a fun instance of comparative storytelling, something that has taken X by storm in the wake of this realization.

The fact that animated adaptations of the majority of fictional lore will always turn out to be superior to any other form of media presentation has been proven to be universal by now, and the tales of a galaxy far, far away are some of the best examples in that regard. Star Wars as a franchise has found some of its best storytelling opportunities when the medium is animation and the focus is not on the force-sensitive rival orders of Jedi or Siths; instead, the grounded, human side of the lore is highlighted. The Galactic Empire’s early days, which spanned between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, have been established as the perfect backdrop for such narrative treatment, as seen since the first Clone Wars series. Which is why it is little wonder that Dave Filoni’s decision to make a series based on...

This article contains spoilers for The Curse episode 10.
The first 25 minutes of The Curse‘s 10th and final episode are pretty much what you’d expect. The story of Asher Siegel (Nathan Fielder) and Whit Siegel (Emma Stone) begins to wind down and the husband-wife duo appears to have gotten (almost) everything they’ve ever wanted.
Their Flipanthropy renovation series, now rebranded Green Queen, has a spot on HGTV … albeit the HGTV streaming app but HGTV all the same. They get to promote their program on an episode of The Rachael Ray Show. Granted, Rachael is far more interested in her guest Vincent Pastore (of The Sopranos) and his meatball recipe but still … Rachael Ray! Whit is finally even pregnant, perpetually resting her hand on her bulging belly as if to reassure herself that the baby they tried so hard for is actually there. Baby Braxton, of course, is in...

This post contains spoilers for the finale of The Curse, which is now streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime.
Early in the concluding episode of The Curse, “Green Queen,” Asher and Whitney’s Shabbat dinner turns into a debate about Cara’s well-publicized decision to quit the art world. Whitney, of course, is envious that Cara is enjoying the kind of media attention that Whitney assumed she would get herself with the HGTV show. Asher tries to be more generous, but he’s in over his head as usual when it...

At the onset, before enough time has passed for anything to go awry, Asher (Nathan Fielder) and Whitney Siegel (Emma Stone) play up one predominant truth of their home improvement project: There are no losers. Asher recites the assertion like a mantra, and really, who could blame him? The newly married couple moved to the struggling New Mexico community of Española not just to build a life for themselves, but to better the entire town. Whitney’s passive homes are eco-friendly; she designed them to carry a negligible environmental footprint, and she’s working to tear down old, abandoned houses that will be replaced with her new, dynamic homes. Asher handles the paperwork — buying and selling, construction contracts, etc. — and together, they’re shooting a pilot for HGTV that will spread the word about sustainable living to communities nationwide.

Beyonce sure knows how to keep people waiting. In 2016 she released one of the most acclaimed albums of the last decade, “Lemonade.” And then in 2018 she teamed with her husband Jay-Z for the collaborative album “Everything is Love.” Then … nothing. Okay, not nothing. She’s actually been quite busy since then. But fans have been champing at the bit for a proper new studio album, and now they finally know when they’re going to get it. The “Renaissance” will take place on July 29.

Oscar and Emmy nominee and 28-time Grammy Award winner Beyoncé has teased what is speculated to be her next solo album, Renaissance, which is due for release on July 29. Fans had been tipped off that something was possibly afoot when the singer deleted the profile pictures and bios from her social media accounts earlier this month.
That changed today with her profiles all updated to read “act i Renaissance 7.29.” Other social media accounts, for music streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple and Tidal, also posted the tease and date. Beyoncé’s website provided links to “pre-save” and “pre-add” options. Renaissance t-shirts, a photo booklet and poster are also available to purchase. It is unclear if the “act i” means this is the first in a multi-part project.

Beyonce has been keeping a low musical profile over the past few months, but she’s breaking cover with a new song, “Be Alive,” featured in the new trailer for “King Richard,” the Will Smith-starring biopic on the rise of tennis superstars Venus and Serena Williams from the perspective of their father, Richard (played by Smith).
The song, which plays throughout the second half of the trailer, is an orchestra-laden anthem, with a powerful vocal by Beyonce. “It feels so good to be alive, that’s why I live my life with pride,” backing singers intone while Beyonce soars over the music — “Do you know how much we have pride / How hard we have to try?”
Beyonce’s projects have been relatively few and far between since the release of her blockbuster 2016 album “Lemonade.” Even though she’s released three albums, none have been full Beyonce solo albums: the 2018 tag-team album with Jay-Z,...
