Tagline: “The Devil Will Take Your Soul...One Piece At a Time.” Jason Horton's The Campus just had a World Premiere in Hollywood, this past week. The film stars Rachel Amanda Bryant as Morgan. She is trapped in a supernatural series of planes, after her father makes a pact with the Devil. Robert C. Pullman (“Fragmented”), Brit Sheridan (“Supernatural”) and Scott Menville also star. Now, The Campus is set to show on Amazon Instant. A preview of the film's Video-on-demand is hosted here. The Campus has been reviewed on this site A The Campus Review on 28Dla. The film, written by Horton, incorporates several smaller stories in a larger narrative. Basically, there is a series of scenes with a killer a cult, another series of scenes with the undead, and another with Morgan falling apart a la Eli Roth's Cabin Fever (2002). There is a lot of material to dissect in this indie horror film.

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by director Jason Horton. This film critic and Jason Horton have worked together on this project, including though online marketing. Tagline: "The Devil Will Take Your Soul...One Piece at a Time." Director/writer: J. Horton. Cast: Rachel Amanda Bryant, Brit Sheridan, Scott Menville and Robert C. Pullman. The Campus is the latest film from director Jason Horton (Monsters in the Woods, 2012). This time, Horton makes a deal with the Devil, in this small budget horror title. Morgan played, by Rachel Amanda Bryant, is central to the film as she delivers most of the film's sparse dialogue. Meanwhile, Satan (Kevin Caliber) is stealing Morgan's soul, one step at a time. There are less than fifty lines here. So, viewers will have to pay attention, to uncover story details. As well, Horton diversifies the film's plot quite a bit, with at...

If I could, I would rent three billboards and they would read:
Billboard One: This movie is frustrating
Billboard Two: Because its story is badly flawed
Billboard Three: But the performances are great
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri goes rogue after the first act/first third of the movie.
The screenplay evidently attracted some spectacular actors led by Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell, and my guess is that the script by Martin McDonagh -- who is a terrific playwright -- was much different than what eventually made it to the screen. That's the only way I can imagine that such great actors would sign on to this Indie film. In my fantasy, the film as originally intended didn't test well and sat on a shelf until it was radically re-cut and then released. [Note: I have no idea whether this happened, it is my fantasy.]
The plot, such as it is, revolves around McDormand seeking justice for her daughter who was raped and murdered.

Title: Dreamer Director: Jesse Salmeron Starring: Jeremy Ray Valdez, Isabella Hofmann, Cory Knauf, Brit Sheridan An achingly earnest immigration drama whose compelling low-budget artistic vision can’t save it from its overly programmatic dramatic roots and muddled assemblage, “Dreamer” is the sort of expressive indie film one wants to like and recommend more than one honestly does and can. A recent premiere at the Cinequest Film Festival, writer-director Jesse Salmeron’s movie is loosely in the mold of something like Chris Weitz’s well received “A Better Life,” from a couple years back — each film showcases the razor’s edge of life as an undocumented immigrant in the United States, in which one simple [ Read More ]

It is almost impossible to believe that "Survivor" just concluded its 25th season. Even more improbably, "Survivor: Philippines" was epic, destined to top all-time fan favorites lists for its engaging cast, roller-coaster twists and insane Tribal Councils.
"Dead Man Walking," the eighth episode, was the standout of an incredible season. The title refers to impossibly charismatic returning player Jonathan Penner's certain execution -- and the thrilling Immunity Challenge victory that spared his life in the game. Leading up to one of "Survivor's" most lively and astounding Tribal Councils, "Facts of Life" child star Lisa Whelchel transformed from America's Sweetheart to aggressive gamer. She betrays Malcolm first by revealing to Skupin and Pete that he found a Hidden Immunity Idol -- and then campaigning to blindside him next.

Supernatural, Season 8, Episode 4: “Bitten”
Written by Robbie Thompson
Directed by Thomas J. Wright
Airs Wednesdays at 9pm (Et) on CW
Supernatural is a show that has never shied away from acknowledging its horror trendsetters or contemporaries, with perhaps the most obvious example being Season 4′s homage to classic horror, “Monster Movie”. With nods to everything from Bela Lugosi to Twilight, the one thing the show had yet to touch on was the newest wave in horror films, found footage. A nod to this kind of movie would be difficult for the show, as neither Dean nor Sam have a propensity for carrying around cameras, making a secondary character’s presence necessary, which is always an iffy proposition. The writers, however, determine an effective workaround for this problem by taking the focus off the Winchester brothers and putting it instead on the victims of the crime being investigated. The result is an effective,...

"Supernatural" has never shied away from taking risks. We've seen the Winchesters on the set of "Supernatural," we've seen them as unwilling participants in a television pilot, we've seen them trapped in a multicam sitcom. This week's episode, "Bitten," is another one that strays outside the box: It's told mostly through "found footage" shot by a handful of college kids who, unbeknownst to the Winchesters, have caught Sam and Dean on tape.
It's one of the lighter episodes for Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, relying more on guest stars Leigh Parker, Brandon W. Jones, and Britni Sheridan for the bulk of the work.
"It was awesome," Jensen Ackles joked when Zap2it visited him on set this week. "We got some time off, got to enjoy our summer, it was brilliant. Make sure everybody writes in and says 'We want more found footage episodes.'"
It's definitely a new storytelling device for the show.

Have to keep the Sam and Dean Winchester fans informed, and while we are going into the Supernatural future, it’s a bit of a rewind as well for us because we’ve already shown you images for the episode after this one! We need to find out who does Jared Padalecki's hair for "Supernatural," and then we need to send them a thank-you note. His romance-novel-leading-man locks have been particularly spectacular this season, as evidenced by these photos from episode 804, "Bitten."
(And don't get us started on more pictures of Jensen Ackles in a suit. This is becoming gratuitous.)
As we previously reported, "Bitten" is the rare episode where the focus is actually directed away from the Winchester brothers. Instead, the episode is made up mostly of "found footage," featuring guest stars Leigh Parker, Brandon W. "You're living in this found footage, the boys bracketed on either side, in the opening and at the very end," executive producer Bob Singer told us . "But for 95 percent of the show, you're living in this found footage.

Supernatural has a new showrunner, Jeremy Carver, returning to the show after some time away helming Syfy’s Being Human, and it looks like he is working to strike a balance between giving fans something fresh and staying close to the show’s roots. Supernatural wouldn’t be the same without classic rock, and tonight’s season 8 opener delivered on that musical note straight away with Styx’s “Man In The Wilderness.” Tommy Shaw croons in the 1977 song, “Another year has passed me by / … What kind of man have I become?”

"Supernatural" fans have seen some pretty crazy episodes in the past -- there's been an old west episode, an episode where Sam and Dean are trapped in a series of television shows, and an episode where they're transported to the "real" world and confused for two shady characters named Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles.
Now, we'll see a unique "found footage" episode in the vein of "Chronicle," with a little "Paranormal Activity" thrown in for good measure. The fourth episode of Season 8, entitled "Bitten," will find Sam and Dean traveling to a college town to investigate a very strange murder. When they enter an apartment, they'll find two dead bodies and a laptop -- with a strange student film cued up and ready to play. The bulk of the episode will take place within the found footage, as Sam and Dean learn that they've unwittingly been cast in a creepy movie.

Chicago – When Robert Redford was on the lookout for equine consultants to assist him with his 1998 drama, “The Horse Whisperer,” he got a lot more than he bargained for when he hired Buck Brannaman. The real-life “whisperer” was one of the chief inspirations for the character of Tom Booker in the Nicholas Evans novel that provided the source material for Redford’s picture. Yet Brannaman’s inspiring work doesn’t merely apply to horses.
As one of the most respected horse trainers in the nation, Brannaman spends the majority of the year traveling the country, hosting clinics that teach people how to better connect their beloved animals. First-time director Cindy Meehl was so inspired by Brannaman’s work that she decided to film a documentary that charted his journey from childhood abuse (at the hands of his father) to an enormously successful adulthood.
