Although "Futurama" is filled with some of the best science and math jokes in animated comedy, it is still very much a show where humor trumps realism. "Futurama" expects its audience to understand the time travel rule that accidentally killing a young version of your grandfather will create a paradox, only to resolve the paradox with the nonsensical (but very funny) punchline of Fry accidentally becoming his grandfather, which doesn't quite make sense from a genetic point of view. It similarly expects its audience to understand how compound interest works for a joke about Fry's 93 cents in 1999 turning into $4.3 billion in 2999, yet conveniently sidesteps any questions about inflation.
This all comes down to a central rule in the show's writers' room, one that was apparently written on a whiteboard: "Science Shall Not Overrule Comedy." As co-creator David X. Cohen explained in a 2013 interview, "We wanted as much as possible to...

Not researching much about Nat Sweetwater Clifton and his heroics before watching the movie was a conscious decision I made, as I wanted to have a better movie experience without knowing what happens at the end. The challenge about adapting a true story of any kind to the big screen is making it exciting enough for the audience to sit through the journey despite being aware of the ending. And the thing that is an absolute necessity for that is innovative, razor-sharp, Sorkin-esque writing.
Of course, the sports biopic sub-genre has the advantage of dazzling the viewer with grand, triumphant moments, which always work out if they are properly designed with ample cinematic value. The Sweetwater biopic, which goes by the same name, has plenty of such moments that work in its favor. In fact, the basketball part of the movie looks very realistic and not at all artificial. The former Hamilton star is currently spreading the love (and rhythm) by teaming up with Prizeo in honor of Immigration Heritage Month to benefit the Immigrants: We Get the Job Done Coalition. The star has asked his fans to donate $10 to the organization and record themselves singing any Hamilton track for a chance to win two tickets to the La opening night of the hit play, as well as airfare, accommodations, and a hang-out session with Lin-Manuel himself. The challenge quickly inspired some of Hollywood's biggest stars to get in on the fun (without actually taking home the final prize), and it has already become a viral craze. Some thoughts on last night's momentous Jane the Virgin coming up just as soon as I call in my #Estefavor... There are TV shows with static premises that have to be maintained in order for the show to continue, and ones that don't. Once Gilligan and the castaways got off the island, there would be no more story (give or take a reunion movie featuring the Harlem Globetrotters). When you give a show a name like Jane the Virgin, even if you're borrowing it from the Venezuelan original, you could fall into the trap of letting the show be defined by when, how, or even if the latter part of the title would cease to be. But it's been a long time since the show was hugely concerned with that question, and even in the early days it treated it primarily as a darkly comic joke about the woman who...

Jimmy Fallon and The Roots challenged the Harlem Globetrotters to a game of basketball, and the comedian took the (foreseeable) loss well. The game came up while Fallon was responding to questions from an “audience suggestion box,” where one fan wondered how he and The Roots would fare on a basketball court.
