Walton Goggins, the ghoulish antihero of Prime Video's Fallout series, has become an unexpected sex symbol with the show's success.
Undoubtedly, the reason is the character of Ghoul. Goggins combines a hardened survivalist's anarchic mind with a Hollywood cowboy's rustic stoicism.
He feels like Ronald Reagan channeling John Wayne, like a man at the end of his days who sticks around for one more horseback ride.
The resignation in his attitude drives his character, not to mention the characters around him who react to his infamy and monstrous appearance. He's the new face of anarchy and arguably the first mainstream character to embody the spirit of anarchy with such a genteel facade.
You must be in love with Cooper Howard, aka The Ghoul, because you've seen Walton Goggin's face many times.

[Warning: The following story contains spoilers about Season 1 of “Fallout.”]
When viewers first meet Lucy (Ella Purnell) in the “Fallout” series premiere, the Vault 33 dweller is applying for an arranged marriage. She is kind, sweet, charming, optimistic, a Golden Rule abider — and quite naive. Vault life is all she knows, and all she’s been told is that it is every vault dweller’s duty to get married and procreate.
“It’s this Vault-Tec propaganda of, ‘One day, we are gonna rebuild America.’ It’s more cult-y than that,” Purnell tells Gold Derby (watch the exclusive video interview above). “I do think you do see moments with Lucy maybe doubting that in the first episode. It’s something me and [executive producer and director] Jonah [Nolan] talked about a lot, and it was really important to him and to me as well that we mapped in those little moments of fear before she gets married and then certainly moments after she gets married … where...

Despite Fallout taking place in the aftermath of a nuclear war, it’s truly not the end of the world for the Prime Video series, which has many miles to go.
Fans of video games are fanatics about how faithfully adapted into movies and series, and according to Fallout executive producer Geneva Robertson-Dworet, speaking recently during an interview with cast and creatives at Deadline Studio at Prime Experience, “there is so much we had to leave behind” in Season 1. “[There’s] potentially thousands of hours of gameplay; we have eight hours to tell our story.”
Watch the interview here and see photos from the event below.
With a Season 2 order under its belt, as well as becoming the most watched Amazon Prime series launch ever per Nielsen with 2.9 billion minutes viewed, Robertson-Dworet says they’ll now “be able to get to so much more that we love about the Fallout world.”

While Steven Spielberg might hail superhero movies as Oscar-worthy, the likes of Martin Scorsese and Anthony Hopkins have gone on to criticize Marvel and DC flicks and even deemed them not cinema-worthy. Although each actor has a right to have their own opinions regarding different genres of cinema, fans have disliked how big names in Hollywood have time and again belittled superhero flicks and the actors who work in them.

Over the years, fans have waged war against such opinions, and comic book actors have defended such movies. And now, even Walton Goggins has joined them after Ray Winstone recently called out the excessive use of green screens in superhero flicks.

Set in an alternate version of Earth, the series takes place in the same desolate world as the original games. After advances in nuclear technology following World War II led to the emergence of a retrofuturistic society, an apocalyptic nuclear exchange wiped out Earth as the people of 2077 knew it. Those who could afford it hid in their Vault-Tec vaults. As for the rest of humanity, they were forced to confront the horrors of this new world head on. Now over 200 years after that war, one young Vault Dweller will risk it all and travel to the surface.

Jonathan Nolan’s Fallout TV series has managed to cross all expectations and has been labeled as one of the best video game adaptations of all time by various prestigious publications. The Fallout games and TV series on Prime Video are full of vile and hideous creatures that fill the wasteland.
With Feral Ghouls, Mirelurks, Radscorpions, and Deathclaws roaming the wasteland, you may be surprised to hear that the vilest antagonist of the Fallout series is actually none of them.
This vile villain that is yet to be introduced formally is part of a "superhuman' race of humans called the Super Mutants. These vile and grotesque beings plague the wasteland, all because of our favorite little company.
Why?
Vault-Tec decided to experiment with the residents of their vaults, as usual.

"Fallout," Prime Video's stellar adaptation of the popular video game, is proving a hit with critics and fans since its April 10 debut. The fact the show has managed to faithfully recreate the expansive world of the video games on which it's based is impressive enough. But "Fallout" is also noteworthy for debuting original characters that fit effortlessly into the universe first established back in 1997, when the first game arrived. Among those characters, Walton Goggins' The Ghoul might be the series' most compelling.
In his 2016 review of HBO's "Vice Principals," The New York Times' Mike Hale wrote that Goggins "makes a habit of being the best thing about the television shows he's in." That arguably hasn't changed since, with the "Righteous Gemstones" star delivering an effortlessly charismatic turn as the irradiated bounty hunter in "Fallout." From the very beginning, Goggins' mutated gunslinger exudes an alluring magnetism, which, considering the actor was covered in extensive prosthetics,...

There have already been a number of them highlighted and there might be another one that fans may have missed while watching the show. While Walton Goggins nailed the role of The Ghoul, the show also sees another character eventually join the radiation club.
Fallout has been received well by fans and critics alike but the story might not be over yet. Although, season 2 of the show hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, it is very likely that we’ll see it at some point given the ending of the first series. There are rumors that its filming will begin in Toronto around September 2024. Spoilers will follow so make sure to watch the show first.

The Fallout series has a bunch of characters that viewers are introduced to in the first episode itself. Out of all of them, three stand out the most: Lucy the Vault Dweller, Maximus the Squire, and The Ghoul. The third one on that list will catch the most attention, in no small part due to his appearance.
Played by Walton Goggins, The Ghoul is not an anomaly in the surface world but one of the more interesting of his kind. By understanding the role of his kind in the games, we can truly appreciate how interesting Goggins’ character will be later in the story.
The Ghoul Takes Center Stage in Amazon’s Fallout
The Ghoul is the personification of Fallout‘s wasteland.
It seems Jonathan Nolan was looking at offering three different perspectives of the wasteland. Lucy’s will be that of the naive Vault dweller who has only just approached the surface.

Walton Goggins is no stranger to meaty roles he can make his own, and now the Emmy-nominated “Justified” actor is sinking his teeth into Amazon’s highly anticipated “Fallout,” an adaptation of the popular video game from “Westworld” duo Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. In the darkly funny post-apocalyptic series, which is now streaming on Prime Video, Goggins pulls double duty as The Ghoul, a disfigured, centuries-old immortal cowboy who’s been stripped of all his humanity, and Cooper Howard, the Hollywood actor he was before the bombs fell. But while Goggins often steals the show — a welcome habit at this point — it’s Ella Purnell’s Lucy who anchors the narrative. Raised in the underground fallout shelters known as Vaults, Lucy travels to the irradiated surface to search for her missing father (Kyle MacLachlan), and she’s shocked to discover a hyper-violent wasteland largely at odds with her inherently optimistic disposition,...

Fallout is one of the most iconic franchises when it comes to showing a post-apocalyptic world. Every game in the series has dealt with the issue of a world-turned-wasteland due to the effects of a nuclear war. The game can be fun, but the heavy themes behind the situation are never hidden from the player.
As gamers explore the remnants of civilization that once was, we understand more about the war and what led to the dropping of nuclear armaments. The upcoming Fallout TV show looks to offer viewers a similar experience but with one fundamental difference.

No, it’s not a TV version of Fallout 5 or an adaptation of any one game in the franchise, but the Amazon series is set in the same timeline as the games, so its big twists and reveals pack an absolute punch for fans up to speed with Fallout lore. Through eight episodes, we follow Lucy (Ella Purnell), Maximus (Aaron Moten), and The Ghoul/Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins) as they uncover the mysteries of Vault-Tec and the Wastelanders who attacked Vault 33 at the start of the season. While they initially set out on their own quests, their paths all converge by the end, as a MacGuffin hunt turns into something much bigger that will affect the future of the Fallout series for years to come.

The Fallout gaming franchise presents a big storytelling universe to play in. And that’s exactly what drew showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner to the Prime Video TV adaptation in the first place.
“It’s more creatively interesting to be able to build our own story in the world that they’ve carved out for us,” Wagner told Den of Geek. “That’s historically been the trajectory of Fallout. It’s traded hands many times, with different creative teams taking it over. It’s kept it fresh, kept it relevant. We chose to just vainly look at this as our Fallout.”
Of course, a big storytelling universe also requires a big cast to fill it up. Prime Video’s Fallout isn’t wanting for compelling lead characters thanks to Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell), Maximus (Aaron Moten), and The Ghoul...

Video game adaptations come in two flavors: crap and brilliance. For a long time, games were considered cash grabs that did not take advantage of the brilliant concepts and stories they told in a different medium. In recent years, that perspective has changed as producers have found creative homes for properties to tell everything from big-screen epics to animated fare and long-form series storytelling. The latest addition to the growing genre is Fallout. Adapted from the three-decade-old franchise, Fallout exists within the world of video games but expands into a fully original story with all new characters. With the full season streaming on Prime Video, audiences are finding this new series is the real deal.

Lucy (Ella Purnell) has only been outside the relative safety of her vault for a few hours before the young, wide-eyed school teacher — who specializes in American History “with a focus on ethics!” — is attacked by a cockroach the size of an adult corgi. Technically, she’s spared the hand-to-leg combat thanks to an actual dog (a German Shepherd), who jumps out of the shadows, chomps down on the mutant insect, and makes a meal of the squealing, writhing creature. But the interaction is nonetheless indication of her predicament. Lucy, who’s lived her entire life in an underground society dictated by laws, common goals, and good manners, isn’t prepared to be out in this anarchic desert wasteland. Her bright blue jumpsuit may shield her from the radiation, but it won’t protect her from the parasites ready to pounce as soon as she lets down her guard.

The much anticipated Prime Video series adaptation of the popular RPG video game series Fallout is finally here and I am so happy to bring you the good news that it’s great. While I am not familiar with the video game, I can say this about the series it’s unique, visually satisfying, and has a good enough story to keep you interested.
Fallout is a dystopian post-apocalyptic series created by Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. The Prime Video series shows us the aftermath of a nuclear war that decimated the Earth. 219 years later, we follow the story of a young woman Lucy who ventures out of her ideal life as a vault dweller to save her kidnapped father and comes face to face with a dangerous world outside of the vaults.

"Fallout" spoilers follow.
The highly anticipated "Fallout" live-action adaptation is finally here and it lives up to expectations. This is a post-apocalyptic story that is simple enough to be universal — a girl searching for her kidnapped father, while multiple stories converge around a bounty. And yet, much like James Cameron's "Avatar," it is the worldbuilding that is the star. This is not Pandora, of course, but the wasteland, a nuclear landscape that is still as tangible as George Miller's "Mad Max" world, full of history and lore.
The show brings the games to life through some exquisite production design. Every aspect of the wasteland, from the ruins of the old world to the many mutated creatures roaming it, to the game's unique brands scattered throughout, and the detailed vaults that safeguard the remnants of non-radiated humanity. Like the games, there's a lot of visual storytelling going on here,...

Before joining the cast of Prime Video’s “Fallout,” stars Ella Purnell and Aaron Moten were vaguely familiar the popular Bethesda video game franchise. But they were both immediately drawn in when they received the series’ scripts and got to dig in to the complex characters of Vault dweller Lucy and Brotherhood of Steel soldier Maximus.
“I just thought the script was hilarious and amazing. I wanted to watch it, so therefore had to be a part of it,” Purnell told TheWrap. “With Lucy, I think it was an exciting place to start as this fresh out of the vault, naive, innocent woman who has so much more to her than meets the eye. I knew she was trained, I knew she knew how to handle a gun and I knew she was tough and educated and smart. I wanted to put her in the Wasteland and see what happens.

Plot: Based on one of the greatest video game series of all time, Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. 200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind — and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird and highly violent universe waiting for them.

After a particularly harrowing setback to his mission in The Fallout, the new series from Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy (Westworld), a bounty hunter known as The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) makes the executive decision to change course entirely. Although his less experienced traveling companion/prisoner protests, The Ghoul knows better. “The wasteland’s got its own golden rule,” he snarls. “Thou shalt get sidetracked by bullshit every time.”
That most of Prime Video’s Fallout consists of getting sidetracked by bullshit is simultaneously one of its main charms and one of its most frustrating flaws. At its liveliest, the sci-fi adventure captures the fun of simply getting to explore a strange new world, meeting colorful characters and going down mysterious rabbit holes. But the lack of urgency also means its eight hours take an awfully long time to get where it’s going.

Part of the joy of playing Fallout is seeing what sort of character you’ll run into next – you never know if it’ll be a happy-go-lucky townsperson collecting their sarsaparilla bottle caps, a monstrously irradiated warlord ready to take you down with a moment’s notice, or literally anything in between. In a similar vein, the Fallout streaming series on Prime Video – from Westworld’s Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy – will keep viewers on their toes as it launches viewers into the post-apocalyptic Wasteland. Among the central figures in the show is Walton Goggins as The Ghoul – a character who could either be friend or foe, depending on the moment.

Fallout is one of the most popular video game franchises and is finally getting a live-action TV adaptation, which is set to release on Prime Video on April 11. The series has some of the best names in the film industry, including Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy.
The show will tell an original story and put three characters at the center of it: Lucy, Maximus, and the Ghoul, played by Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, and Walton Goggins, respectively. The creator of the series has now revealed that one classic Clint Eastwood film was a big inspiration for the show.

Actor Walton Goggins, who essays the dual roles of Cooper Howard, a B-movie western star, and The Ghoul, his 200-hundred-year-old mutant killer version in the streaming series ‘Fallout’, shared that his nose was digitally removed for his part of The Ghoul in the show.
The actor revealed that it was quite challenging for him to find the two characters as they’re vastly different from each other.
Shedding light on his character of The Ghoul, the actor said, “The Ghoul is a rascal, really. He’s got a great sense of humour, but underneath that is a lot of pain. He’s seen a lot and felt a lot and all the rest of it. And Cooper’s a kind, patient, caring product of the Greatest Generation. He’s about the best this country has to offer.”
Goggins’ transformation into The Ghoul goes beyond acting. The character’s signature look involved extensive makeup and prosthetics.
