The Dcu, a ‘broad but not blanket’ reset of the Dceu, headed by James Gunn, has a lot riding on it when it comes to the future of Warner Bros. in general. While the highly anticipated Superman movie is set to become the first major offering under the new regime, a number of other highly-anticipated movies are also in the pipeline.
This includes the upcoming Batman II movie, which is set to further the journey of Robert Pattinson’s Batman and is rumored to have a place for Barry Keoghan’s Joker. While there have been rumors of several other antagonists who might as well end up being a part of Batman II, a fan on Twitter recently came up with his own iteration of how the movie should look like.

Ben Affleck has been one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood, and he has also made a mark as an acclaimed filmmaker. Having his breakthrough with the Oscar-winning drama Good Will Hunting, which he co-wrote with Matt Damon, Affleck rose to worldwide stardom as he headlined blockbusters and became a slough-after actor.
Affleck’s tryst with the superhero genre has been bittersweet. While his role as Daredevil has been regarded as cheesy, with the actor himself considering it a mistake, his role as Batman in the Dceu has been divisive. Now, the actor is rumored to be in the running for Doctor Doom in the MCU, which fans seem to be completely against.

Scarecrow is one of Batman’s most iconic foes, a master of fear who uses toxins and illusions to torment his victims. He first appeared in World’s Finest #3 (1941) and has since become a mainstay in the Batman Rogues Gallery. While not one of the most physically imposing figures, Scarecrow’s psychological tactics make him a truly formidable foe.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences doesn't always get it right. Actually, you can count on them to just about never get it right.
This is especially true of the lead acting categories, where voters often become prisoners of the moment and vote for the buzziest and/or showiest performance. This is how Al Pacino's chilling depiction of Michael Corleone's descent into pure, dead-eyed evil in "The Godfather Part II" gets passed over in favor of Art Carney's amiable portrayal of a lonely old man hitting the road with his pet cat in "Harry and Tonto." This results in overdue Oscars, which frequently create new injustices — like Denzel Washington's bravura turn as Malcolm X losing to Al Pacino's ceaseless hoo-hahing in "Scent of a Woman," which led to Washington getting his Best Actor trophy for his (admittedly entertaining) grandstanding work in "Training Day" (which cost...

The story of Robert Downey Jr.’s comeback is possibly one of the greatest in Hollywood. When he was down and out, he was a cautionary tale and a punchline, but now the Oscar contender from Oppenheimer couldn’t be any richer with an amazing legacy, legions of fans, a renewed reputation and a mountain of earnings from Marvel Studios. It was Jon Favreau’s decision to fight for Downey Jr. for the part of Tony Stark that turned out to be a Hollywood and a cultural game changer.
Ironically, while 2008’s Iron Man became a huge hit and planted the seeds for the juggernaut that is the MCU, as well as brought Downey Jr.’s career back from the dead, Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight would take over that summer. During the promotion for Oppenheimer, Nolan and Downey Jr. would show great respect for each other. Variety reports that while on Stephen Colbert,...

Filmmaker Christopher Nolan praised his ‘Oppenheimer’ star Robert Downey Jr He added that he always wanted to work with the actor and him playing Iron Man is one of the most consequential casting decisions that’s ever been made in the history of the movie business.
Downey Jr is regarded as the Oscar front-runner for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Lewis Strauss in Oppenheimer.
“I’ve always wanted to work with him. I’ve always seen that in his work,” Nolan said. “And he has such charisma as Tony Stark. Him playing Iron Man is one of the most consequential casting decisions that’s ever been made in the history of the movie business,” Nolan said on ‘The Late Show’.
Despite his acting talents, Downey Jr manages to generate a connection with audiences by leaving room for others, Nolan said.

Christopher Nolan had a Shakespearian moment when he came to The Late Show. In a reverse of Marc Antony, he came to praise Robert Downey Jr., his Oppenheimer star, not to bury him.

Nolan was particularly effusive about Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Iron Man, which propelled the Marvel Universe, thanks to Downey Jr.’s boundless charisma.

In the DC Comics series "Batman," Jonathan Crane, more popularly known as Scarecrow, uses fear as a weapon. "Even if you attempt to steel against fear ... it is undeniable. Fear makes us human," he claims while using a specially concocted airborne fear toxin to terrorize everyone in Gotham. Scarecrow is pretty formidable among the plethora of "Batman" villains — his heightened intelligence and innate grasp of human psychology give him an edge over those who only rely on brute strength, as the nature of warfare he employs is purely psychological. So, when Christopher Nolan was looking to cast someone fitting to portray the character in "Batman Begins," many dynamic actors, including Robert Downey Jr., were more than interested in going full diabolical scientist for the film.

Although everything has worked out in the end, Robert Downey Jr. recently recounted his original meeting with Christopher Nolan for Batman Begins, which never amounted to anything. When it came to his first big project, Nolan would screentest different people for his caped crusader. He knew he wanted Christian Bale for the role, but decided to also test film Cillian Murphy for it anyway. Nolan would reminisce with Murphy, “When we had our first conversation, I think both of us knew that you weren’t going to wind up playing Batman. But I really wanted to get on set with you, I wanted to get you on film. We did those screen tests very elaborately, on 35mm, with a little set. There was just an electric atmosphere in the crew when you started to perform.”

Gary Oldman may be unhappy with his performance in the Harry Potter franchise, but he’s also very grateful that he got to work on both that franchise and Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, as they allowed him to spend more time with his family. As he put it, being cast in those films meant he could “do the least amount of work for the most amount of money and then be home with the kids.” Oldman played Jim Gordon in Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises… but he suspects that Nolan originally envisioned him playing a different character in the trilogy. The villainous Scarecrow.
During an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Oldman was asked about the rumor that Nolan had wanted him to play Ra’s al Ghul, the villain who ended up being played by Liam Neeson in Batman Begins. Oldman...

Out of all the classic monsters that pop up in costume shops around the Halloween season, there’s one that I believe has always been criminally underused in scary movies. Unlike witches, vampires and undead ghouls, the lowly Scarecrow is usually relegated to the background of mainstream horror media despite serving as an instantly recognizable (and genuinely eerie) harbinger of Autumn.
That’s not to say that we haven’t seen memorable examples of these ever-watching fiends in scary movies before – I just wish that there were more of them! And now that we’re fast approaching the spookiest night of the year, we’ve decided to come up with a list highlighting six of the scariest scarecrows in horror films in the hopes that future filmmakers will make use of this underrated monster.

The Scarecrow, aka Dr. Jonathan Crane, is my favorite Batman villain. I've always been drawn to his eponymous motif, his horror-twinged stories, and how he contests Batman for the title "The Master of Fear." Hence, though "Batman: The Animated Series" holds a special place in my heart, I've always been disappointed that Scarecrow wasn't an A-list player.
Crane is the antagonist in only three episodes and in each one is mostly an obstacle for Batman to develop against. In his villainous debut, "Nothing to Fear," Batman is dosed with Scarecrow's Fear Toxin and haunted by an apparition of his father, leading to the Dark Knight's most famous line. In "Dreams in Darkness," the Fear Toxin drives Batman temporarily insane and he's locked in Arkham Asylum. He must escape both his physical and mental prison before Scarecrow can poison Gotham City.

Who has a better rogues gallery than Batman? Sure, the X-Men have some greats in Magneto, Stryker, and Mr. Sinister. And Spider-Man’s got the Green Goblin, Doc Ock, and Mysterio. But none of these baddies can touch the denizens of Arkham Asylum for their variety and malleability. Even if film adaptations keep going back to the same few characters, the psychologically twisted enemies offer room for multiple interpretations, allowing actors to find something different to each version.
But as great as they are, some Batman villains are better than others, allowing for a clear ranking of all the Bat-Baddies.

Cillian Murphy's latest role as J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" has garnered significant buzz and critical acclaim, with some predicting that his intimate, complex portrayal of the man behind the atomic bomb will earn him an Oscar nomination. Though Murphy is undoubtedly brilliant in the biographical epic, the Irish actor has had over 25 years of preparation for the role through a number of projects in film, TV, and theater.
Murphy, like many actors, began his acting career on stage. In 1996, he made his stage debut in Enda Walsh's play "Disco Pigs," which was later adapted into a feature film starring Murphy in 2001. By the early 2000s, the actor took on several roles, but his role as Jim in the post-apocalyptic horror film "28 Days Later" propelled him into Hollywood. In 2005, he starred in "Batman Begins" and began what would become a decades-long collaborative friendship with Christopher Nolan.

This post contains spoilers for "Oppenheimer."
Cillian Murphy wasn't about to phone in his "Oppenheimer" performance. The actor had been waiting since 2005, when he played The Scarecrow/Dr. Jonathan Crane in Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins," to take the lead in one of the director's films. In the almost 20 years since that movie debuted, Murphy has worked with the revered filmmaker an additional five times, the most recent of which saw him finally take the lead as the titular theoretical physicist in Nolan's "Oppenheimer."
Not only did the actor basically eat next to nothing in order to match Oppie's slender frame, but during his six months of prep time Murphy watched two movies specifically to prepare for the role: David Lean's 1962 epic "Lawrence of Arabia," and Miloš Forman's 1984 film "Amadeus." Both films aren't without their darker moments, but neither compare to the bleakness that underlies Nolan's latest. That...

With a little help from "Barbie," "Oppenheimer" enjoyed a historic opening weekend at the box office, bringing in an impressive $82 million. Such success not only proved that Christopher Nolan is one of the all-time best box office bets, but that original ideas can still triumph despite not being based on long-standing IP. That is, unless you consider J. Robert Oppenheimer a kind of existing IP. The man who created the atomic bomb and changed our world forever was always going to command significant cultural awareness. In that sense, Nolan isn't operating entirely without the aid of audience familiarity.
Still, it's not as though the director's adaptation of Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin's biography, "American Prometheus," was ever going to have the same cultural caché as, say, Batman propelling its box office. Which just makes the success of "Oppenheimer" all the more impressive. And while much of that is...

Christopher Nolan is a director who seems to like bringing actors with him from one movie to the next. Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Anne Hathaway got roles in multiple consecutive Nolan films, and legendary British thespian Michael Caine has gotten many brief appearances as well. Still, there are few actors who have worked with him as often as Cillian Murphy. It's a partnership that started with the 2005 film "Batman Begins," Nolan's notably serious and gritty reboot of the "Batman" film franchise.
Many decisions were made to distinguish that movie from what had come before with the series. Nolan and company dispensed with the over-the-top and stagebound Gotham of Tim Burton's 1989 film or the cartoony villains rendered in campy glory in Joel Schumacher's oft-criticized "Batman Forever" and "Batman and Robin" for this iteration of the character. It’s hard to imagine that we are nearly 20 years removed from the release of Christopher Nolan’s “Batman Begins,” and what would become the start of one of the most famous film trilogies of all time. And other than Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne, there are few characters who actually made it through all three films. One of those is Jonathan Crane, aka Scarecrow, played by frequent Nolan collaborator Cillian Murphy.

Longtime Christopher Nolan collaborator Cillian Murphy admitted he declined to read the full “Dark Knight Rises” script to keep the surprise trilogy ending under wraps.
Murphy, who portrayed mad scientist Jonathan Crane aka Scarecrow in the superhero films, shared during an oral history alongside director Nolan for Entertainment Weekly that he preferred to be kept in the dark when it came to how the franchise concluded.
“I remember when you called, you said, ‘You want to read the script?’ and I said, ‘You know what, I don’t actually want to read the script. Just tell me what I’m doing, just tell me what my motivation is, and then I want to see the movie,'” Murphy said to Nolan. “I didn’t want to spoil it. So I just came in for that one day, did that little bit on that amazing set, and then waited to see the movie.

The new trailer for writer/director Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer begins with J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) warning that they could be losing the race against the Nazis to develop an atomic bomb. Hitler’s people have an 18-month head start. The three-minute trailer goes on to touch on the inception of the Manhattan Project and the ethical and moral dilemmas involved in developing a weapon with the potential to annihilate the entire planet.
In the trailer, there is a discussion about the inception of the Manhattan Project
Cillian Murphy previously worked with Christopher Nolan in 2005’s Batman Begins as Dr. Jonathan Crane / Scarecrow; 2008’s The Dark Knight in a cameo appearance; 2010’s Inception playing Robert Fischer, heir to the energy conglomerate Fischer Morrow; and 2017’s Dunkirk as a Royal Navy soldier. Everyone knows the deal with 1997's "Batman & Robin" by now. We don't need to rehash the abject disappointment that accompanied its release and its legacy of having nearly killed off the Batman franchise — though, that might be fun ... but let's focus, here. In the wake of Joel Schumacher's second and final Batman movie, Warner Bros. was sent scrambling, lurching from one attempt to reboot the Dark Knight to another.
This went on for some years, with multiple projects being considered and developed before being scrapped. One such project, "Batman: DarKnight," would have been the complete opposite to "Batman & Robin," telling a dark tale that would see Dick Grayson used as a test subject in Dr. Jonathan Crane, Aka Scarecrow's twisted experiments. Of course, we all know how the story plays out, with Warners nixing that movie in favor of Christopher Nolan's origin tale "Batman Begins.

The history of Batman on film is well established at this point. Aside from his 1966 outing, we've had the Tim Burton era, the age of Joel Schumacher, the Christopher Nolan trilogy, and most recently, Matt Reeves' "The Batman." But things could have looked very different. Once Tim Burton's 1992 sequel and "weird experiment," "Batman Returns" proved successful, the director prepared to helm the next entry in the franchise. As he recounted in a making-of featurette, he actually met with Warner Bros. and pitched them his idea for a third film, before recognizing the lack of enthusiasm among the studio execs and saying, "You don't want me to make another one, do you?"
Burton was right. Warners didn't want him to make another one — especially since he'd upset the very demographic they and the toy companies were trying to target. Instead, the studio brought in Joel Schumacher to direct 1995's "Batman Forever,...

On the heels of the reveal that Titus Welliver will appear in Titans Season 4 as no less than Lex Luthor, we now have a few more teasers to chew on.
First, a refresher: Titans‘ Season 3 finale saw the titular team divide and conquer, applying their particular sets of skills to save the people of Gotham who had already been killed by Jonathan Crane’s poison, and then busting into Wayne Manor to stop the Big Bad from wreaking further havoc. Once that threat was neutralized, Crane was put back behind bars, and Jason Todd — despite giving the Titans a big...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Season 3 finale of Titans, “Purple Rain.” So if you haven’t caught up, first, maybe examine your priorities. And then come back and check it out.] After a wickedly inventive and emotionally packed season that saw the Titans heading to Gotham City to battle both DC Comics villains Jonathan Crane (Vincent Kartheiser) and the Red Hood—fallen Titan Jason Todd (Curran Walters), who was drugged into killing Hank Hall (Alan Ritchson) with an explosive device—the often-fractious superteam got it together and brought these two monsters to justice. Or at least the Gotham version of justice, with a repentant Todd run out of town and Crane locked back up at Arkham Asylum with just a headful of horrifying memories to drive him mad. HBO Max Along the way, Dick reunited with former Batgirl-turned-Gotham Pd Commissioner Barbara Gordon (Savannah Welch), the late Donna Troy (Conor Leslie) returned from the great beyond and we...

The Titans are more fractured than before, and it feels like we're reaching the point of no return for them as a team.
Titans Season 3 Episode 12 was about driving a bigger wedge between some of the members while simultaneously setting us up for the war to come with Jonathan Crane, aka Scarecrow.
When Dick was led to the Lazarus Pit, I couldn't help but roll my eyes. Using the mystical location twice in one season is a stretch, but it was easier to believe when he told Jason he understood what it was like to die.
Dick has been a terrible leader throughout the series, and his actions have only caused more problems. If the intent is to make us hate him, then the writers are doing a stand-up job.
It's easy to understand that leaders need to make decisions that not everyone will agree with, but come on, Dick...

It's becoming challenging to root for Dick.
Titans Season 3 Episode 11 put his worst traits on full display, and while it's understandable he didn't want anyone to be harmed in the scuffle with Red Hood, he needed to understand that the team needs to be united to face this threat.
When you have someone in a position of power, you need to be at ease with their decisions, and Dick always seems to be going rogue these days, leading me to believe Titans Season 3 will wrap with a new leader of the superhero group.
Going into battle with Red Hood, he did have plenty of weapons at his disposal, but he failed to realize just how much the citizens of Gotham are anti-Titans, and that could be his ultimate undoing.
I believe Jason wanted Dick to kill him. It would put him out of his pain, and, well, the kid has...

Did anyone else roll their eyes the moment Titans Season 3 Episode 6 took to the past?
What seemed like an origin story for another new character was actually a nuanced, deep dive into Barbara Gordon and her relationship with Dick Grayson.
We already knew they shared a past, but witnessing the finer details of their relationship was the perfect way to highlight why the pair stare at each other like they want to rip each other's clothes off.
There's burning chemistry between them, but when in Gotham City, things are never easy.
Out of all the newer characters on the show, Barbara deserved an origin story. She's a badass character with many layers, and peeling back the onion on some things we didn't know helped elevate the character to new heights.

Titans Season 3 Episode 5
Ah, Titans. Ever since they cast the perfectly angsty Curran Walters to play Jason Todd we all knew it was coming to this. Titans Season 3 began with Jason being brutally murdered by the Joker in a near direct recreation of his controversial–and fan chosen–death from 1988’s A Death in the Family. While it was quickly revealed that just like in the comics Jason had actually somehow survived and taken on the mantle of the Red Hood, we had been unsure of what led him to the fairground on that fateful night.
But Titans season 3 episode 5, “Lazarus” is, as the title hints, all about Jason’s rebirth and resurrection and the man who was to blame for it… no, not the Joker or the Scarecrow but Batman himself, Bruce Wayne.
If we look back to the classic four issue comic arc that inspired this,...

The residents of Gotham City should be afraid.
Titans Season 3 Episode 5 was the deep-dive we needed into the character of Jason Todd, and it was an hour bursting at the seams with exposition that flawlessly helped us understand Jason's machinations.
Jason was driven by fear and learning that Bruce planned to remove him as the Joker was the final straw. For the most part, he was following Bruce's orders, but Bruce clearly saw him as a liability.
Throughout the first three seasons of Titans, Jason has struggled to keep up the pace due to some near-death experiences that have forever changed him as a person.
It makes sense that he thought losing fear would work wonders for him because let's face it, his ego took a huge beating when he was overpowered in front of Molly.
To an extent, Jason has felt invincible because of the power that comes with being associated with Bruce Wayne,...

Vincent Kartheiser was the subject of multiple investigations for his behavior on the set of Season 3 of the HBO Max series “Titans,” Variety has confirmed.
Kartheiser was cast as the villain Jonathan Crane, a.k.a Scarecrow, in the third season of the DC superhero show earlier this year. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Kartheiser was first the subject of a complaint for what was described as making inappropriate comments onset. Wbtv’s Labor Relations department investigated and found that his actions did not warrant being fired from the show but did warrant corrective action.
A second complaint was made some time later, which led Wbtv to assign a representative to keep an eye on activities on the set. Due to Covid protocols, interviews were conducted virtually by the Burbank-based investigators.
Reps for Wbtv declined to comment.
“Vincent Kartheiser vehemently denies the allegations,” a spokesperson for the actor said.
