The Nabil-directed video follows Tyla lounging, tanning, and posing for photos in her native South Africa. In one scene, Tyla stops traffic and has a twerk-off in front of a bus with images of her face plastered all over it.

The Met Gala may technically be a charitable fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. But it has also become a formidable event franchise for Vogue, the Condé Nast-owned publication that now helps organize the annual fashion-forward event.
That is reflected on the viewership numbers Vogue says it saw for Met Gala-related content, all of which were up sharply from last year, with video in particular a driving force.
Condé Nast says that the Met Gala livestream had 74 million views across its owned platforms (i.e. Vogue.com) as well as on YouTube and TikTok, up 30 percent from a year ago. And it had 2.1 billion total video views in its first seven days across all video content made for the Met Gala, including livestream, replays, clips on its owned-and-operated platforms, social and YouTube, up 73 percent from last year.

With a guest list that totaled 400 bold-faced names, the 2024 Met Gala may rank as the best-attended celebrity event so far this year. But beyond the sheer volume of high-wattage stars who ascended the Metropolitan Museum of Art stairs on May 6, who really won the night’s red carpet in terms of brand exposure?
In the latest edition of the Red Carpet Power Rankings, an exclusive partnership between Launchmetrics and The Hollywood Reporter, the results are in.
It should surprise no one that Zendaya performed well in the rankings of top-five women at the Met Gala, as someone who not only draws intense interest wherever she goes but also because the Euphoria and Challengers star did two laps on the red carpet, first wearing custom Maison Margiela, then changing inside the museum and climbing the steps once again, this time in vintage Givenchy, which she and star stylist Law Roach purchased...

The Drake-Kendrick Lamar showdown will continue — at the 2024 BET Awards.
The rappers will compete in two categories at the June 30 show: best male hip-hop artist and best collaboration. In the latter category, Drake is nominated for “Rich Baby Daddy” with Sza and Sexyy Red, while Lamar is nominated for his guest verse on the remix of Beyoncé’s “America Has a Problem.”
Drake is the show’s top contender with seven nominations, thanks to his album For All the Dogs (Scary Hours Edition). Lamar didn’t release an album that was eligible this year. The Canadian rapper’s other nominations include album of the year, best male R&b/pop artist and viewer’s choice for “Rich Baby Daddy.” He’s nominated twice in the video of the year category: “Rich Baby Daddy” and his guest verse on J. Cole’s “First Person Shooter,” the late 2023 track that reignited his feud with Lamar.

The theme of the 2024 Met Gala was “The Garden of Time” — based on a story by J.G. Ballard – but, really, the theme of all Met Galas always has been: Go big or stay home!
While there have been myriad gorgeous gowns, jewels and natty tuxes over many Met Gala years, what do the most dress-obsessed actually remember? Cher half-naked. Lady Gaga’s change of dress performance art. Billy Porter’s royal entrance in Egyptian armor and entourage. Katy Perry as a chandelier. They all proved: It doesn’t pay to stay staid — even if staid means gorgeous.
So the question comes down to: Does one do good outrageous? Or outrageously bad? Both the bad and the beautiful always get the most ink — sometimes, you can’t tell the difference. With such risky looks, it’s a toss of the coin. If you’re Cher, you can pull off anything. Everyone...

“Water” singer Tyla arrived in sand for her first-ever Met Gala red carpet.
Working with stylist Katie Qian, the South African singer wore a custom sculpted Balmain gown that represented “the sands of time,” she told La La Anthony on the red carpet. “We really wanted something out of the box for this year, it’s my first time at the Met.”
The Grammy-winning artist paired her Dune-esque dress with water-inspired jewelry by John Hardy, including yellow gold earrings with aquamarine, yellow diamond and blue topaz; and two yellow gold pave rings. She accessorized a simple gold necklace and an oversized hourglass clutch, while her beauty look featured a cat eyeliner and a dusting of sand on her left shoulder. Her nails featured 3D chain embellishments that mimicked dripping sand.
“It feels amazing, I’m so excited to go inside and see all of the pictures, then go home.

Gunna is nearly ready to unleash his forthcoming studio album One of Wun — but he won’t say when it’s coming. The rapper shared the title of the record on Monday and unveiled its accompanying cover art, created by the visual artist Calvin Clausell Jr. In the image, Gunna’s face is concealed beneath a mess of blue and white flower petals.
While the project doesn’t yet have an official release date, it will likely arrive just in time for Gunna to kick off The Bittersweet Tour with Flo Milli in May.

Tems and Wizkid didn’t need no other body during a performance of their hit collaboration “Essence” at Coachella on Sunday evening. Still, Tems sweetened the deal for her audience at the Mojave tent with a special appearance from Justin Bieber, who appeared on a remix of the record in 2021.
Tems has already started working her way through the opening verse of “Essence” when Wizkid hit the stage, putting a grin on the singer’s face. The pair traded lyrics back and forth before Bieber emerged from the side-stage shadows to rumbling applause.

Nelly Furtado took to Instagram on Saturday to show off her battle scars following a particularly dramatic performance onstage at Coachella.

Also on social media, Furtado shared a photo of her bloodied finger after the performance. “Literally left it all on the stage,” she wrote, “including my blood.”
In footage of the incident, Furtado is seen singing the lyric “movin’ my body like a nympho” just before falling to the floor. She recovers quickly, telling the crowd, “I say it right, now do what I say.”

Grimes took to social media Sunday to apologize for the technical issues during her Coachella performance this weekend.
The singer-songwriter struggled with equipment malfunctions throughout her show Saturday, with problems plaguing the programming of her tracks at the mixing desk that left her screaming into the microphone throughout the second half of her set.
“The cdjs were showing me bpms like 370 so I couldn’t even mix manually by ear and the front monitors were off so it was literally sonic chaos on my end trying to guess how stuff was sounding for u guys,” she explained on X (formerly Twitter).
Her statement also explained she outsourced certain aspects of the performance “to save time.”

Tyla made her debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert with a choreographed performance of “Art.” Watch it below.
The South African singer, who was included on our Rising Artists to Watch in 2024 list, recently won her first-ever Grammy for Best African Music Performance. Her song “Water” was also included on our Best Songs of 2023 list.
Unfortunately, Tyla was forced to cancel the world tour she’d mapped out for 2024, citing an injury. The cancellation extended to her appearance slated for Coachella. “For the past year I’ve been silently suffering with an injury that has tragically worsened,” she shared via Instagram. “I’ve seen doctors and specialists with high hopes but the pain has only become more agonizing as has the severity of the situation.”

Following amapiano beats with your body is like watching a streetcorner shell game, or playing tennis with a rogue ball launcher — more surprising, sexy, and fun than standard 4/4 club bangers. South Africa’s signature groove for roughly a decade, the Soweto-bred slowed-down house music hybrid swiftly went pan-African because Afrobeat-niks, in Nigeria and elsewhere, know rhythm-magic when they hear it. With the long-awaited debut by 22-year old Johannesburg native Tyla Laura Seethal, the music is poised to globalize like never before. Bring it on.

Bratz is celebrating Women’s History Month by unveiling a concept doll in tribute to Sinéad O’Connor.
Honoring O’Connor just eight months after she passed away, the doll depicts the “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer with her signature shaved head. While she isn’t ripping up any photos of the Pope, she is donning her “Jesus is coming — look busy” shirt, with sunglasses, baggy jeans, and a quintessentially-Bratz blinged-out lip-shaped handbag.
“Women’s Month continues with Sinéad O’Connor, an Irish singer, songwriter, and activist with a passion for ‘90z grunge fashion,” a post by Bratz on Instagram read. “O’Connor, who passed away in 2023, first debuted her scorchin’ buzzcut in 1987 when she was just 20 years old — two years after she signed her record deal. Sinéad‘s 1990 album, I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got, was her biggest commercial success, selling over seven million copies worldwide. Its lead single,...

Tyla is postponing her world tour due to an injury.
The Grammy winner took to Instagram on Thursday, announcing the news. “For the past year I’ve been silently suffering with an injury that has tragically worsened,” she disclosed. “I’ve seen doctors and specialists with high hopes but the pain has only become more agonizing as has the severity of the situation.”
The South African singer added that she is “absolutely heartbroken” to not be able to proceed with her tour, which was scheduled to kick off March 21 and included a slot at Coachella in April. “In consulting with medical professionals it’s become increasingly clear that continuing any festival or tour dates would jeopardize my long-term health and safety,” she explained.
Tyla assured fans that she and her team are “working diligently on a spectacular show” as soon as she’s recovered and “ready to return safely onstage this summer.
