The kids aren’t ok in Sebastian Godwin’s domestic thriller Homebound, which is now streaming on Bloody Disgusting’s Screambox.
Homebound follows “Holly (Aisling Loftus), a young woman who travels with her new husband (Tom Goodman-Hill) to meet his estranged family, only to find his ex-wife is missing and the children behaving in strange ways.”
Meagan Navarro reviewed the film out of Fantastic Fest, writing that “Homebound is a slight but tension-filled domestic thriller.”
She adds: “Through its mood-driven atmosphere, performances, and scant runtime, Homebound never overstays its welcome.”
This month’s Screambox titles include two classic Warner Bros. titles, an extremely rare Bollywood remake of Wes Craven’s Scream, and two brand new Screambox Originals. Get all the deets here.
Newly added Screambox titles also include Dawning, Signal 100, In Dreams, and Just Desserts: The Making of Creepshow as well as Warner Bros. classics Killer Party and Body Snatchers!

Warning: contains Major spoilers for The Midwich Cuckoos episodes 1-7
The majority of changes made by screenwriter David Farr to the source material for Sky’s new adaptation of The Midwich Cuckoos were tweaks rather than departures. In the seven-part series, Midwich is no longer a remote country village, but a commuter town within easy reach of London. Its lead character isn’t erudite author Gordon Zellaby, but child psychiatrist and single mother Dr Susannah Zellaby, played by Keeley Hawes. Book narrator Richard Gayford and his wife Janet are absent, replaced by new characters Zoe (Aisling Loftus), Sam and Dci Paul Haynes, played by Max Beesley.
Shifting the narrative perspective towards the story’s women reflects changes in gender politics between the 1950s and today. The same goes for the inclusion of a sequence in which the women of Midwich – mysteriously all pregnant at the same time following a town-wide...

Movies don’t need to contain oozing blood and gore to be considered horror fare. Psychological horror is a subgenre which can be quite effective at causing terror. Writer/director Sebastian Godwin’s first feature film Homebound is a good example of psychological horror that mostly relies on actors’ reactions to events, which take place off-screen, to scare the audience.
Homebound follows Holly, played by Aisling Loftus (A Discovery of Witches), and Richard, played by Tom Goodman-Hill, newlyweds traveling to the country to meet Richard’s family for the first time. Holly is concerned when they arrive to an empty house, but Richard shrugs it off. Apparently, it’s normal for his ex-wife Nina to refuse to talk to him, but at least she sent him a text apologizing for not being there. Eventually, Richard’s children show up one by one and none of them seem particularly happy to see their father.

"Under your skin, insidious horror." This looks creepy! Brainstorm Media has unveiled an official trailer for Godwin's Homebound, which first premiered at Fantastic Fest and Beyond Fest last year. "The kids aren't ok in Sebastian Godwin’s domestic thriller Homebound." Holly travels with her new fiance Richard to meet his estranged family in the English countryside, only to find his ex-wife is missing and the children behaving in strange ways. It looks especially creepy and unsettling, with reviews calling it "a slight but tension-filled domestic thriller." The indie horror stars Aisling Loftus as Holly, with Tom Goodman-Hill, Raffiella Chapman, Hattie Gotobed, and Lukas Rolfe. Oh those crazy kids. This looks unexpectedly good, with a few seriously unsettling moments with the kids seemingly leading to an intense showdown. It's worth a look. Here's the official trailer (+ two posters) for Sebastian Godwin's Homebound, direct from YouTube: Holly is (Aisling Loftus) excited...

This feature debut draws on spooky genre tropes but fails to develop its plot and atmosphere
Just like in many horror films that have come before, a trip to the countryside goes terribly awry in Sebastian Godwin’s feature debut. Taken to an imposing mansion on isolated land, Holly (Aisling Loftus) is nervous about meeting the mother and the children of her new husband Richard (Tom Goodman-Hill). To make matters worse, on their arrival Richard’s estranged ex-wife is nowhere to be found on the sprawling property. Meanwhile, the children begin to behave strangely: locked doors and the eerie rustling of trees hint at a frightening secret to which only the children have the key.
There is nothing wrong with reviving well-worn genre tropes, and Homebound’s setting does vaguely recall the pleasures of spooky British TV classics such as The Owl Service. Still, as the plot is fairly simple,...

Following the shy but well-intentioned Holly (Aisling Loftus) as she travels with her fiancé Richard (Tom Goodman-Hill) to meet his three children for the first time, Sebastian Godwin's Homebound, which is screening in the Frightfest strand at this year's Glasgow Film Festival, is one of those odd little films which doesn't quite fit comfortably into any genre, but whose very peculiarity gives it a wonderful freshness. It features some great performances, especially from the children, but also depends heavily on its striking setting, the house in which they live.
When I ask Sebastian how he managed to find that house, he laughs and says "With great difficulty!" – but goes on to expand on the process.

I kicked off Fantastic Fest 2021 with a little family thriller called Homebound. It’s a character-driven piece that is an exercise in both tension and dread. If there is one thing that I have learned from horror movies over the past few years, it’s that you don’t have to travel far from home to find something disturbing and unsettling. The people you know and are connected with can sometimes be even more terrifying than the monster lurking under your bed.
Holly (Aisling Loftus) is both excited and nervous at the prospect of meeting her fiancé's children. As she and Richard (Tom Goodman-Hill) drive to his ex-wife’s secluded estate in rural England, she puts the finishing touches on wrapping a birthday gift for his youngest daughter Anna (Rafiella Chapman). The pair have been invited out to spend some time with the family, including Richard’s ex, Nina, and...

"Rock out with your glock out." Saban Films has debuted the first official trailer for an action comedy called Gun Shy, formerly known as Salty (which is the title that appears on the very early poster art seen below the trailer). The movie stars Antonio Banderas as an over-the-top rockstar named Turk Henry, with a wife played by Olga Kurylenko. She gets kidnapped while the two are vacationing in Chile, and Banderas recruits some wacky people to help him find and free her. Sounds like a fun straight-to-vhs concept for an action movie, why not. The full cast includes Ben Cura, Mark Valley, Aisling Loftus, David Mitchell, Jeremy Swift, and Jesse Johnson. This really looks ridiculous, but it may be a fun beer-and-pizza rental. Here's the first official trailer (+ new poster) for Simon West's Gun Shy, direct from YouTube: When vacationing in Chile, an aging and pampered rock star...

It looks like there won't be a fifth season for the Mr. Selfridge TV series. "It's the last series," co-star Amanda Abbington reportedly told What's On TV, "We won't be doing any more, which will be really sad because it's been a part of my life for four years." While ITV hasn't confirmed or denied Abbington's statement, last year series creator Andrew Davies said, "It was always conceived of as four series."
Mr. Selfridge follows flamboyant businessman Harry Selfridge (Jeremy Piven) who decides to build the biggest and finest department store in the world at the "dead end" of Oxford Street in London. In addition to Piven and Abbington, the series stars Frances O'Connor, Katherine Kelly, Gregory Fitoussi, Aisling Loftus, and Trystan Gravelle.

Jason-Isaacs-in-Case-Histories
Within the crowded field of British detective shows, Case Histories truly stands out as one of the very best contemporary dramas in recent years. It’s not as gloomy as Vera, not as gory as Luther, and it lacks the frivolity of Midsomer Murders. What it does offer is a realistic central character played brilliantly by Harry Potter bad-guy Jason Isaacs. Jackson Brodie (Isaacs) is broody but he’s positively jovial when compared with Wallander. He’s something of a lady’s man and could be described as Scotland’s answer to Jim Bergerac only with a penchant for cigarettes rather than booze. Brodie has his demons and he’s not immune to the odd cock-up but he’s a good guy at heart and he usually unravels the perplexing mysteries that land in his lap.
Case Histories ran for two seasons each comprised of three feature length mysteries.

Mr Selfridge Season 2
Season 2 of Mr Selfridge is set precisely one hundred years ago — on the eve of World War I. However, while others prepared for battle it was business as usual for the effervescent Harry Selfridge. Money was rolling in and his personal star was rising but it didn’t take long for the chinks to appear in his armor. His excitement about the return of his wife quickly dissipated when it became clear that she had fallen under the spell of a controversial new friend — Soho club owner Delphine Day (Polly Walker). Things went from bad to worse when he lost a beloved client after Lord Loxley (Aidan McArdle) cancelled his wife’s account during an angry exchange on the shop floor. On the plus side, Agnes (Aisling Loftus) made a welcome return although she quickly got on the wrong side of the cantankerous Head of Fashion (Cal MacAninch...

PBS' "Masterpiece Classic" debuted a new drama Sunday (March 31), hoping to attract the viewers who are currently in "Downton Abbey" withdrawal with period piece "Mr. Selfridge," which has already aired in the U.K. to solid ratings, averaging 8.5 million viewers per episode.
The question is -- will it catch on here in the U.S.?
Star Jeremy Piven is best known for his work as Ari Gold on "Entourage," a fast-talking, neurotic Hollywood talent agent. We can't imagine that "Mr. Selfridge" is going to attract many "Entourage" viewers, so we're curious as to the PBS viewer reaction to Piven in the titular role, which is not unlike his "Entourage" character.
For us, while Piven is certainly a solid Selfridge, we found the supporting characters even more interesting. In particular, Aisling Loftus as Agnes Towler, a shop girl who takes care of her younger brother and has to put up with a mooching,...

Jeremy Piven as Harry Selfridge.
Kieran Kinsella
The real life Harry Selfridge was a larger-than-life entrepreneur who turned the dreary museum-like retail establishments of London into something resembling modern stores. PBS Masterpiece’s new drama Mr Selfridge shows us precisely how this brash yank managed to win the hearts and minds of London’s stuffy elite.
The show begins with Selfridge’s plans for a new store unraveling as his business partner pulls the plug on the deal. Among other things, his English counterpart is unhappy with Selfridge’s decision to hire a brass band to perform at the building site as work begins on the construction. Even away from the work, Selfridge ruffles feathers in London with his all-too-casual manner and apparent disdain for etiquette. He persuades a shop assistant in another store to break protocol and let him browse through the store’s entire inventory of gloves. He...

The latest PBS offering on "Masterpiece Classic" is "Mr. Selfridge," a period drama set in turn-of-the-century England. Sound familiar?
"Mr. Selfridge" tells the story of real-life department store mogul Harry Gordon Selfridge (Jeremy Piven), who revolutionized the world of shopping when he opened Selfridge & Co. in London in 1909. Will "Downton Abbey" fans get their period drama fix with this new program? Yes and no.
On the one hand, "Mr. Selfridge" has many of the trappings viewers love about "Downton" -- period costumes and sets, an upstairs/downstairs feel between the wealthy Selfridge, his friends and customers, and the working-class people who are employed at his store.

However, whereas "Downton" has always focused on propriety and upholding the old ways in an ever-changing world, "Mr. Selfridge" is about looking forward, an entrepreneur working his way up the social ladder with his salesmanship and vision.
