So many actors have their beginnings on the stage, doing routines that might seem cringe but are 100% part of who they are: a pre-teen Ryan Gosling with those retro dance moves and Mc Hammer pants, Rodney Alcala smoothly winning over the ladies on The Dating Game and – Ok, maybe that second one doesn’t quite qualify. But here’s another that does: Alan Ritchson on American Idol. That’s right, the star of Reacher once tried to make it big by wooing Paula Abdul.
While Alan Ritchson moved onto Hollywood during the third season of American Idol, he was ultimately cut, with the eventual winner being Fantasia Barrino, who we should note is not a small screen action hero. Ritchson’s standout moment came when he stunned judge Paula Abdul just by being in the room, bringing a smile to her face. He would subsequently personally serenade her with Stevie Wonder...

Danielle Brooks knows The Color Purple’s Sofia inside out. She spent a year as the boisterous wife in the Broadway revival in 2015, and boasts that she knows everything from the character’s Zodiac sign to the color socks she wore. A decade before her fiery onstage performance, a 15-year-old Brooks admired Felicia P. Fields as Sofia in its initial run on Broadway, whose defiant demeanor made her vulnerable to racial violence. Despite her lifelong ties to the role, she still had to prove herself for the big budget movie musical.

Jada Pinkett Smith applauded Taraji P. Henson for speaking out about her experience with the pay disparity in Hollywood while appearing on NPR’s It’s Been a Minute.
Pinkett Smith was asked as a Black Hollywood veteran if she felt Henson’s words rang true and how inequality has shaped her career.
“Absolutely,” Pinkett Smith said. “My heart broke for Taraji, and I was also happy [to see] how courageous she was to speak about it in the way that she did.”
“One of the things with Taraji is that she is the breadwinner of her family. Her pressures would be different than mine. I have to put that out front, because if it’s time to walk away, that’s not always the solution,” explained the actress. “Because what people don’t understand with us as Black entertainers, we carry a lot of people with us.”

Emma Stone thanked her mother for giving her life and her “Poor Things” screenwriter Tony McNamara for the line “I must go punch that baby” when she accepted her leading actress BAFTA award on Sunday evening.
“Tony, thank you for the line ‘I must go punch that baby.’ It was life-changing for me,” Stone said on stage, while also thanking director Yorgos Lanthimos, her fellow cast and crew and her dialect coach Neil Swain.
“I was playing a British person in this movie and [Neil] did not laugh at me when he taught me how to say ‘wart-ter,’ even though as an American I say ‘wahter,'” Stone quipped. “So thank you England for accepting me.”
The actor also made sure to thank her mother. “Because she’s the best person I know in the whole world and she inspires me every single day. She’s always made me believe this...
