Growing up in the early 2000’s, it was near impossible to avoid hearing someone talk about The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. It followed four best friends who, realizing the difficulty of being apart from each other for the summer, find themselves inexplicably linked by a pair of jeans that magically fit all of them. The first book by Ann Brashares was published in 2001 with four sequels shortly after, so it wasn’t long before a film adaptation was in the works.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants was released in 2005 and its sequel in 2008. With the casting of TV stars Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera, Blake Lively, and Amber Tamblyn, the films brought the same magic that the novels did before them. They were melodramatic and trite, but bursting with themes of loss, love, and friendship. I was swept up in the magic, and with the 10th...

Even if you're not a big reader of young adult fiction, you may have seen the advertisements for the new Chloë Grace Moretz movie The 5th Wave and suspected that it looks like the kind of movie that was adapted from a Ya franchise. All the elements are there: a post-apocalyptic dystopia, a winsome female protagonist who stands up to become the world's champion, an imperiled younger sibling and the winning combination of light science fiction and teenaged angst. The 5th Wave is the first in a trilogy of books by Rick Yancey about a group of underage rebels fighting off an alien invasion.

The sisterhood bond is still strong! Actress Amber Tamblyn stopped by VH1's "Morning Buzz Live" to promote her new poetry book "Dark Sparkler" -- and ended up revealing an interesting tid-bit about friend Blake Lively's new baby James. Ryan Reynolds' other half gave birth to their daughter only three months ago and didn't release the name of their new addition until last month. While we have yet to see what she looks like, her former "Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants" costar did reveal another fact about the youngster -- her godmother! "You're still very close to your 'Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants" costars and three of you are godmothers to Blake Lively's baby. Is that a fact?" Host Nick Lachey asked the star during a game of "Fact Check". "Yes, that is a fact," the 31-year-old said, confirming reports that friends Alexis Bledel and America Ferrera are also godmothers.

Let us all join hands and give thanks: There's going to be a third Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movie. Or, at least that's the rumor. America Ferrera, who played Carmen in the first two flicks, went on the Meredith Vieira Show today and announced that a script is in the works. And, if fan obsession is any indication, there's a good chance it's going to get made. But, before things go too far, we have a few suggestions for the lucky screenwriter. Since this is going to be the final installment of the Traveling Pants series—Ann Brashares, author of the original books, doesn't plan to write any more—the emotional stakes are high. This last flick needs...

The first flick in the series debuted in 2005 and followed "four best girlfriends who hatch a plan to stay connected with one another as their lives start off in different directions: they pass around a pair of secondhand jeans that fits each of their bodies perfectly."...

The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants movies are what you might call "modest successes." Released in 2005 and 2008 respectively, the two films were made for only about $25-30 million each, and both made north of $40 million in worldwide box office totals. These aren't the kind of numbers that are going to get a studio drooling about the idea of another sequel, which explains why we are only hearing about a third movie in the series six years later. Deadline is reporting that the production company Alloy Entertainment is now in the process of developing a feature adaptation of Sisterhood Everlasting, the fifth and final book in Ann Brashares' long-running young adult series. The plot will pick up 10 years since we last saw the protagonists and will begin with all of them having gone separate ways. Tibby, who was played by Amber Tamblyn in the first two movies, decides that she...

“Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” fans, rejoice! Another adventure with Carmen, Tibby, Lena and Bridget is coming to the big screen, as it was announced today that the filmmakers behind the first two films based on the bestselling Ann Brashares novels are now in development on a third movie. It had been thought that the second film ended on a note that allowed the characters to be retired from the big screen, despite there being several more books in the novel series to adapt from, but the third one should accomplish that once and for all. It will be based [...]

It's so hard to say good-bye to yesterday, and to those traveling pants that kept four friends in touch over the long summer breaks. "Sisterhood Everlasting" will be the third and final movie in the "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" series, based on the novels by Ann Brashares.
The movie takes place 10 years since the last time we checked in with Tibby, Lena, Carmen, and Bridget, and the gals are all grown up and almost 30. Not even pants have been able to keep them close, and not just because butt sizes wax and wane over the years. Life happens, babies happen, careers happen, and drama happens. In "Everlasting," Tibby invites everyone on a trip that's sure to give viewers "all the feels," as they say.

Author says her upcoming adult novel is 'very different to the 'Harry Potter' series.'

It's been five long years since J.K. Rowling published her seventh and final "Harry Potter" novel, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," and it seems the author is finally ready to move away from the beloved young wizard and into the world of adult novels. Publishers Little, Brown announced on Thursday that they'd reached an agreement with Rowling to publish her first book for grownups. The publisher did not reveal any details of the book or even when eager readers could expect its release, though in a statement through the publishing house, Rowling did seem to indicate that she had finished writing the novel.

I have no shame when it comes to admitting I have occasionally, though infrequently, wept in a movie theater. In fact, only a few occasions come to mind: the final scenes of In America and Rocket Science, and the scene in Billy Elliot where the father crosses the picket line, which gets me every fucking time. But on the rare occasions where tears spring eternal in a movie theater, I'd much prefer that the movie earned my eye ejaculate. A powerful moment of recognition, something heroic, or something so overwhelmingly inspirational that I can't help myself are the types of excuses I allow myself to shed a tear in public (even if it is dark).
What I don't get, really, are cancer movies (or those of a similar vein). I don't mind being tearjerked if the devastating loss of someone informs the story or is a necessary part of the character arc.

Call it battle of the abs. Or the teen screams heard round the world. Either way, Summit Entertainment's The Twilight Saga: New Moon did more business on its opening weekend than any other movie this year. Now that it's the biggest fall opening ever at $142.8 million and its opening day number of $72.7 million outgrossed The Dark Knight's first-day figure, Hollywood should finally accept that women drive the box office in a big way. "It's great that the greenlighters in town have realized that little girls go to the movies," says MGM's president of marketing Michael Vollman. "But this genre has worked forever.

Writer Ann Brashares did a pretty well for herself when she wrote about a pair of magical pants that kept friendships together. And she might do even better on her next go. Variety reports that her new series has stirred up a bidding battle, and New Regency has come out on top.
My Name is Memory -- which is slated to hit shelves next June -- will be the first part of a trilogy about multi-life romance. It all focuses on a college-age couple that has some serious history. "Turns out their souls have been reincarnated over hundreds of years, but these soulmates keep losing each other. While he remembers the details of their previous lives -- and his often exasperating attempts to connect with her romantically -- she cannot recall the events of those past lives." Initial comparisons are bringing up the likes of Twilight and The Time Traveler's Wife.

I'm a sucker (and I do mean sucker) for a good high-concept plot idea, and it sounds that Ann Brashares' novel My Name is Memory hangs on a corker. The book won't be published until next June so there's no way of knowing yet if this smarty pants concept is at the centre of a good story or a bad one but the hook alone intrigues me. Essentially a romance story, the story actually starts with an awkward stalker moment when a couple meet at college and the young man claims that the two of them have been reincarnated over and over as lovers in different time periods and while she can't remember any of this, he can. That idea gives me the creeps, but of course, in Brashare's book, he manages to provide her with an explanation, calm things down and get the romance rolling again in this era.
