While the whole world of TV fans is celebrating Elsbeth's deserved success, those who have been following Carrie Preston for a long time are looking back at the actress' filmography to choose something to distract themselves during the hiatus.
Although Elsbeth has been renewed for season 2, it won't arrive until the fall, so there's plenty of time to check out some of the actress' other projects.
Be careful, though, because not all of them are as good as Elsbeth. Preston's directorial debut, That's What She Said, is a movie you probably want to avoid at all costs. It's everything that's wrong with a parody comedy.
What Did Carrie Preston Direct?
Even though Carrie Preston has more than one movie under her belt, this one stands out from the crowd. First of all, Preston's other projects were TV episodes of Claws, The Good Fight and Your Honor. Second, all...

Elsbeth (Carrie Preston) isn’t going anywhere! The first season of Elsbeth ended with Wagner (Wendell Pierce) not only wanting her to stay, but giving her a new office. And that came after the finale broke from its format in a couple areas, including Elsbeth’s hunches when it comes to solving crimes and not revealing who the murderer was from the jump. Below, Preston looks back on the first season, including the finale, and begins pondering what could be next. Elsbeth is staying and Wagner wants her to stay. What did you enjoy most about playing the different sides of their dynamic this season? It takes a few turns leading up to that sweet hug. Carrie Preston: Yes, it was really wonderful working with Wendell. He’s such an extraordinary actor and he brings such gravitas and grace and skill to his work. And so when we got those scenes where we went head-to-head,...

“The Good Wife” introduced Carrie Preston‘s Elsbeth Tascioni back in 2010. She was so popular with fans that she also featured in the spin-off show “The Good Fight.” Now Preston and Elsbeth take center stage in the brand new spin-off “Elsbeth.”
CBS’ hit drama series follows Elsbeth as she carries out work as an unconventional attorney and helps the NYPD catch criminals with her astute observations. Preston was excellent in her guest role in “The Good Wife” but she is even better here as the main course, as critics have noted.
Ben Travers (Indie Wire) observed: “Preston knows the exact pitch at which to play Elsbeth. Never grating yet always pesky, her unrelenting positivity (and general relentlessness) would undoubtedly get old, fast, in real life. Cops and criminals alike are exhausted by her, but audiences can more easily appreciate her dogged demeanor because a) we know she’s on the right track,...

Happy Model day! On Friday, Wallows released their third studio album Model, and celebrated its drop by sharing the video for the LP’s standout, “You (Show Me Where My Days Went).”
The Nina Ljeti-directed video sees the trio — Dylan Minnette, Braeden Lemasters, and Cole Preston — throwing paint on walls, ripping off wallpaper, and demolishing the inside of an apartment, but with the destruction playing in reverse. At the start, the three guys stand inside a completely damaged apartment, and as the video continues, the room returns to its original state.

Elsbeth’s season 1 officially came to its end with last night’s final episode, and fans can now surely expect bigger things for the character next season.
As it turned out, there’s now no bad blood between Elsbeth and her boss Wagner who almost sent her away back to Chicago after learning that she was digging up dirt on him, and though the compelling drama seems to be over, a new level achieved in their relationship may still have some surprises in stock.
Apart from that, after proving Elsbeth’s ability to find murderers on her slightest whim, the show may turn to another perspective and dive deeper into Elsbeth’s personal story which has never been explored before.
Though so far it’s nothing but a mere suggestion, Elsbeth’s actress yet has another option for a family affair on set, and it doesn’t have to do...

Elsbeth may have just ended its first season on May 23, but we’re already looking ahead—and we very much hope that Carrie Preston‘s dream guest star appears this fall. Elsbeth will be back for its second season in the fall, and when TV Insider asked Preston for her dream guest stars, she has someone in mind: “You know I have to say Michael Emerson,” she said with a laugh. “We’re hoping that he’ll come to the Elsbeth world now that he’s done with the Kings other show Evil. So that would be wonderful.” She also already has an idea of the role she’d like to see him play. “It would be fun to see Michael not be a murderer or someone evil. It would be fun to see him be maybe even part of the police ...

Even though Elsbeth has been officially renewed for a second season, and all fans of the quirky and chaotic investigator will see her again, that doesn't mean there won't be a long hiatus. Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) may be about to work her last case in New York in the CBS drama’s May 23 finale, or, well, so she thinks. Elsbeth has been renewed for Season 2, but Captain Wagner’s (Wendell Pierce) declaration, that he wants her to go back to Chicago after an arrest was made in the corruption case against him (Lieutenant Noonan had been using his name), could mean some major changes. Besides, Elsbeth doesn’t even necessarily want to return to Chicago! “I think she’s really found a new life and a new beginning reinvention, so to speak, of herself in New York, and so the thought of going back is pretty daunting to her,” Preston tells TV Insider. “She really wants to stay put. When you leave home for college, you don’t really want to go back and sleep on your parents’ couch. At least I didn’t.

More than a decade after winning a guest acting Emmy for her work as quirky lawyer Elsbeth Tascioni on CBS’s “The Good Wife,” Carrie Preston is now seeking lead category recognition for reprising the character on the same network’s “Elsbeth.” If she is included the upcoming Best Drama Actress lineup, she will make Emmys history as the first performer ever nominated as a lead for a winning dramatic guest role.
Preston was awarded the 2013 Best Drama Guest Actress Emmy for her seventh of 14 “Good Wife” appearances, which were spread over six seasons. After landing a second bid for that series in 2016, she showed up in five episodes of the Paramount+ spinoff “The Good Fight,” with her last appearance occurring one month before the series finale in November 2022. “Elsbeth” premiered this February and has already been renewed for a second season.

CBS’ big hit police procedural drama show Elsbeth is wrapping up its first season run, but isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Coming as an unofficial The Good Wife’s spinoff, Elsbeth owes its renewal for yet another season to its compelling plot and some past connections to the 2009 political drama starring Julianna Margulies.
As the show still has its television run and keeps teasing the grand finale, Elsbeth’s main star opened up about one guest star that she would like to have on the show’s set. Fair to say that the actress’ desire coincides with the one of quite a lot of fans across the world.
Talking about the show’s finale at CBS’ fall schedule reveal party last week, Elsbeth Tascioni’s actress Carrie Preston revealed that “it would be really cool” to have Julianna Margulies as a guest star in the show’s next season.

Yesterday, all their troubles seemed so far away.
In 2022, Peter Rosza and Conor Woulfe sued Universal Pictures after they rented the 2019 movie “Yesterday” on Amazon Prime Video and subsequently felt they had been bamboozled by the trailer. The film, directed by Danny Boyle and written by Richard Curtis, is a zany musical fantasy in which Himesh Patel, a struggling musician, is bonked on the head and wakes up in a world in which The Beatles Never Happened. As such, he starts playing their songs as if they are his own and the movie follows the expected Preston Sturges-like tropes you might expect.
The trailer for the movie featured quite a few glimpses of the alluring Cuban-born actress Ana de Armas, later Oscar-nominated for her leading turn in “Blonde,” who ended up not being in the movie at all. An early cut included her character, but that storyline was shaved down after the movie tested poorly.

I still have fond memories of gathering around the TV with my family on Sunday nights to watch Veena Sud's captivating TV series The Killing (based on Forbrydelsen by Søren Sveistrup), so I'm especially thrilled that Veena's 2020 Quibi series The Stranger (starring Maika Monroe as a rideshare driver who encounters a killer client played by Dane DeHaan) has been recut and re-released as a feature film that's now streaming on Hulu!
Daily Dead had the pleasure of catching up with Veena in a new video interview to discuss the unique multi-year journey of this new version of The Stranger, including the importance of co-owning the copyright to the project, restructuring The Stranger as a feature film, and working with Maika Monroe, Dane DeHaan, Avan Jogia, and their canine co-star Preston!

Elsbeth is about to show a softer side to Captain Wagner (Wendell Pierce), and you’re going to love how the charming, quirky, and just plain fun show does that. The April 11 episode introduces Wagner’s wife, Claudia (Gloria Reuben), and from her first scene, you can immediately see why she fits in so well into Wagner’s world and is good about separating him from it. Also in the episode, “Love Knocked off,” Retta guest stars as an elite matchmaker who goes to extreme lengths to keep her socialite client from finding out the truth about her perfect new husband. When he goes missing, Captain Wagner assigns Elsbeth (Carrie Preston) and Kaya (Carra Patterson) to investigate. Below, Reuben introduces us to Claudia and talks about working with Preston and Pierce. Over the first few episodes, we’ve mostly seen the gruff side of Wagner, but his wife is very different.

George MacKay became one Hollywood’s most sought after young actors after his starring role as a sweet-faced solider in Sam Mendes’ Oscar-winning “1917.”
But he’s looking much different in his latest film, “Femme.” He stars in the queer revenge thriller from directors Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping as a closeted street thug who begins a sexual relationship with Jules (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett), a man he doesn’t realize is the drag queen he once brutally gay-bashed.
For the film, MacKay’s body is ripped and covered in tattoos. His hair is shaved and slicked back. He wears tracksuits and garish gold chains and rings, and his working class accent can be hard to decipher.
It took him about eight weeks of “bulking” to get in shape. Even so, MacKay admits he did a lot of push-ups for scenes where he had to be particularly “big and scary.

At least stateside, audiences will experience Femme and The Beast, both starring George MacKay, as near-simultaneous releases. The 32-year-old British actor has been a presence for over two decades dating back to his film debut as a Lost Boy in 2003’s adaptation of Peter Pan. He grew up on screen in films like 2008’s Defiance, 2014’s Pride, and 2016’s Captain Fantastic. Twenty nineteen proved a breakthrough year for MacKay as a leading man, playing a heroic soldier on a mission in 1917 and delivering a brooding, brutal interpretation of Australian urban legend Ned Kelly in True History of the Kelly Gang.
MacKay’s latest one-two punch features elements familiar from his previous standout roles and elevates them to new heights. In Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping’s Femme, he’s electric as Preston, a hardened hypebeast in contemporary London who harbors a secret identity. The character is drawn out...

Exclusive: CBS’ Elsbeth will count on three additional guest stars for its Season 1 cast: Elizabeth Lail (Five Nights At Freddy’s), Arian Moayed (Succession) and Laura Benanti (The Gilded Age). Following a brief hiatus, the show returns April 4 with two episodes.
Elsbeth follows the titular Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston), an astute but unconventional attorney who utilizes her singular point of view to make unique observations and corner brilliant criminals alongside the NYPD following her successful career in Chicago. The character first appeared in The Good Wife and later in The Good Fight spinoff.
In addition to Preston, Wendell Pierce and Carra Patterson round out the series regular cast as Captain Wagner and Kaya Blanke, respectively. Gloria Reuben recurs as Wagner’s wife, Claudia Payne. Following its premiere at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival last year, “Femme” is finally set for theatrical release in the United States on March 22 in New York and March 29 in Los Angeles. The British thriller from Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping is adapted from their 2021 BAFTA-nominated short and stars Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and George MacKay. Utopia has acquired stateside distribution rights.
“Femme” follows Jules (Stewart-Jarrett), who is targeted in a horrific homophobic attack, destroying his life and career. Some time after that event he encounters Preston (MacKay), one of his attackers, in a gay sauna. He wants revenge.
With a critics consensus that reads, “Sexually charged and riddled with tension, Femme redresses the noir genre and may leave audiences biting their nails to the nub,” the movie holds fresh at 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. Read our full review round-up below.

An empathy-for-all approach to a queer revenge thriller about the attraction that forms between a Black drag queen and his white attacker after a homophobic assault? That’s the slippery thrust of queer British filmmakers Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping’s “Femme,” starring Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and George MacKay as East Londoners who share a perverse romantic connection founded on revenge. It’s a movie in revenge noir drag of its own, concealing a sinister love story.
As “Femme” begins, Jules is coming off the high of another fabulous performance under the drag persona Aphrodite Banks. Still in full garb, he stops at a convenience store where he’s at first cruised by Preston, a tatted-up criminal cutting an alluring figure under a streetlamp. But Preston soon after brutally beats Jules to impress his rabbling macho band of friends, leaving Jules naked and collapsed in the street.

Jules is a celebrated and loved drag artist in London. One night, they are the victim of a horrific homophobic attack that nearly destroys their life and career. Broken, Jules no longer performs and spends their days playing video games until one day they listen to the pleas of their housemates, Toby and Alicia, to get out of the flat for once. Jules goes to a gay sauna where they discover one of their attackers, Preston, a deeply-closeted brute who is more concerned about their reputation with their flat mates than exploring their sexuality or a relationship. Unable to match Preston's physical ferocity, Jules hatches a plan of revenge to take them down. Femme is a nail-biting, white-knuckle queer thriller from directors and...

In our cancel-happy times, there’s hardly room for an empathy-for-all approach to identity-based violence and abuse. Enter Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping’s “Femme,” a bruiser of a British queer revenge thriller that plunges straight into the gray areas that can form between attacker and victim.
Retrofitting the pages of ‘90s erotic suspense films to a 2023 sensibility, “Femme” stars Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (breakout of “Culprits”) as a Black drag queen who, after being assaulted by a white, closeted street thug played by George MacKay, reaps revenge by seducing his attacker, who later doesn’t recognize him out of drag. But in the process, fraught tenderness and attraction form between Jules (Stewart-Jarrett) and Preston (MacKay), making Jules’ calculated act of vengeance — and the film itself — that much more complicated.

It’s near-impossible to make a revenge narrative that doesn’t serve as a commentary on clichéd gender roles. Male-centered vengeance stories, even at their most knowingly ludicrous, typically focus on wounded men aiming to reassert the dominance stripped of them; female-centered ones are about why women shouldn’t be underestimated because of stereotypical, outdated ideas of femininity. It’s an enduring, still-thrilling formula even as the boldest films within this pantheon can’t help reverting back to this template. The greatest strength of Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping’s stylish debut Femme is their self-awareness as to how pervasive this genre trait is even within an unmistakably queer narrative, making their protagonist’s quest for vengeance a borderline-b-plot within a character study of increasing moral murkiness. It won’t be anywhere near as liable for highly charged discourse, but in its best moments it feels positively reminiscent of Paul Verhoeven’s Elle,...

Political candidate and former newspaper reporter Derek Myers appears in an undated headshot provided by his campaign. (Courtesy photo)
A former newspaper reporter and Congressional aide-turned-politician is suing an Ohio newspaper over a featured news article that he characterized as defamatory.
The suit, filed by Derek Myers, comes several days after the Cincinnati Enquirer and some of its co-owned local newspapers published an article written by journalists Scott Wartman and Amber Hunt that detailed some of his prior arrests.
The story published earlier this week claimed that Myers “has been either a plaintiff or a defendant in multiple civil and criminal cases” covering a wide range of accusations, from illegal wiretapping to assault and disorderly conduct.
The wiretapping case was widely reported on when it occurred nearly two years ago. In that incident, Myers was accused of recording audio of a murder trial he attended as a reporter for the Scotio Valley Guardian newspaper.

The new primetime drama kicked off with an episode that featured a friend of Carrie Preston’s, Stephen Moyer. During a press conference prior to the premiere, Preston talked about reuniting with her True Blood co-star.
“You know, True Blood, I mean, it holds a special special place in my heart. My career sort of took off in a way that it hadn’t before that show, and so we all bonded. We made True Blood kind of in a vacuum, and then it aired. […] We weren’t even together. So, we all like bonded over that show,...

Larsa Pippen is defending her parenting.
During the Real Housewives of Miami season six finale, host Andy Cohen was in disbelief when he found out that Larsa, 48, was giving her 15-year-old daughter Sophia a $2,500 monthly allowance.
“You guys understand, like, L.A. is super expensive,” Larsa said in response. “So after school, she orders food or Uber or buys presents for her friends’ birthdays.”
Keep reading to find out more…Larsa also noted that Sophia “literally makes money” on her own through brand partnerships and has already worked for Fashion Nova and Oscar de la Renta.
Earlier in the reunion, Larsa explained that Sophia currently lives in L.A. with her dad, the reality star’s ex-husband Scottie Pippen, after deciding that’s where she wanted to attend her freshman year of high school.
“For me, Miami is home. That’s where my heart and my soul is,” Larsa said.

CBS audiences first met Carrie Preston’s alter ego Elsbeth Tascioni in a first-season episode of their prestige legal drama “The Good Wife.” The character would go on to appear in almost every season of that series and quickly leapfrogged to its even-better sequel “The Good Fight,” where she dropped in on three of its six years. Clearly a favorite of fans as well as series creators Robert King and Michelle King, Preston’s Elsbeth, a daffy and disorganized but utterly unassuming and brilliant lawyer, now has her own series, which debuted its premiere episode on Feb. 29 — a leap year, how fitting.
Relocated from Chicago to New York City (where all of the “Good” series shoot), Elsbeth now works for the New York Police Department as an observer, making sure the force’s officers follow the letter of the law. The series introduces two new regulars: Wendell Pierce as the...

Elsbeth has premiered on CBS, and we're all in.
The show garnered 4.5 million views and improved its CBS time slot by 45% over last year.
Already fielding favorable comparisons to the classic Columbo and the more modern success Poker Face, Elsbeth combines a winning story formula with good timing to set the show up as an instant hit.
This spin-off of The Good Wife and The Good Fight was an odd choice. The show hinges on Elsbeth's new job observing the NYPD for signs of corruption.
Why would a lawyer from Chicago be called in for this job? What are her credentials?
As she states in the pilot episode, Elsbeth has never actually been to a crime scene -- she's only seen crime scene photos in the courtroom.
So how can someone with no experience in crime scene investigation even spot corruption?

The Elsbeth premiere set the stage for what the series will be, both in terms of the cases and the ongoing mystery of what has brought the titular character (Carrie Preston) to New York: to investigate Captain Wagner (Wendell Pierce) for possible corruption. Right from the start, we knew that Stephen Moyer, Preston’s True Blood costar, was playing the killer, allowing for a fun cat-and-mouse game between their characters. “That structure will continue,” co-creator Michelle King tells TV Insider. “We’re not a big fan of whodunnits in general,” adds co-creator Robert King. Instead, “it’s a, how does she figure it out?” according to Michelle. But as part of that, there will be some questions. “There’s whodunnits within how do you figure it out? There might be something that ends a little more tentatively than you thought—or not ends, but it might be in the middle like,...

Carrie Preston as Elsbeth Tascioni. Photo: Elizabeth Fisher/CBS ©2023 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Even though she was never a series regular, Carrie Preston became a fan favorite on The Good Wife with her occasionally recurring character, Elsbeth Tascioni. In fact, her appearances on the show earned her a pair of Primetime Emmy nominations as a guest actor, and she won the award in 2013. After The Good Wife signed off, Preston reprised the role on the first Good Wife spinoff series, The Good Fight. Now, Preston’s character is getting her own spinoff series, Elsbeth. While The Good Wife and The Good Fight were dramas with some comedic elements, Elsbeth is more of a comedy with dramatic undercurrents. It’s created and produced by the same team that created the previous series, Robert and Michelle King, and Preston says she’s grateful to be given the chance to expand...

Robert and Michelle King’s The Good Wife and The Good Fight spinoff Elsbeth is TV’s latest series about an eccentric non-police investigator using their eccentricities to solve murders, as well as the latest to use a throwback template — we tend to cite Columbo, though Columbo is hardly the only apt reference — to (slightly) freshen up the procedural format.
This is a dual trend I’ve written about and analyzed to death — so to speak — so let’s try something else.
Elsbeth, which transplants Carrie Preston’s delightfully odd and unfailingly effective Elsbeth Tascioni to the Big Apple, represents the Kings in comfort-food mode.
Coming after six seasons of Paramount+’s The Good Fight, one of the angriest and funniest shows of the Trump Era, and CBS and Paramount+’s Evil (currently wrapping its fourth season), in which humor and horror elements capture the perpetual discomfort of modern urban life,...

It’s been 15 years since “The Good Wife” first premiered on CBS, seven years since its initial spinoff, “The Good Fight,” helped launch CBS All Access, and zero years since “Elsbeth” brings the “Good” universe full circle. On February 29, 2024, the franchise returns to CBS — albeit with every advertisement noting you can also watch episodes on CBS All Access Paramount+ — as the Carrie Preston-starring drama series extends Robert and Michelle King’s legal procedurals into new territory: Instead of outwitting her fellow attorneys, Elsbeth now polices the police.
Preston stars as Elsbeth Tascioni, a defense attorney first introduced in “The Good Wife” (and brought back for “The Good Fight”) whose ceaselessly chipper demeanor encourages friends and enemies alike to underestimate her at every turn. In the “Elsbeth” pilot, she enters a crime scene wearing a foam Statue of Liberty hat, shamelessly flaunting her image as the bright-eyed tourist in a city of hardened cynics.

In 19 memorable episodes that aired over the course of a dozen years and across two different shows — CBS’ The Good Wife and its streaming spinoff The Good Fight — Carrie Preston played Elsbeth Tascioni, a brilliant lawyer whose eccentric behavior constantly threw off the heroes of those dramas. So naturally, when Preston gets her own series, simply titled Elsbeth, the character is now helping the NYPD solve murders. As one does, right?
