In 1975, the world was first introduced to the Roger Corman-produced cult action film “Death Race 2000.” Directed by Paul Bartel and starring David Carradine (“Kill Bill: Volume 2”) and Sylvester Stallone (“Rocky”), the film follows a murderous Transcontinental Road Race in a dystopian American society. Over the years, it garnered cult acclaim and eventurally produced a remake in 2008 followed by two direct-to-dvd sequels.

‘Death Race 2050’ Red Band Trailer: Things Get Bloody in Roger Corman’s Post-Apocalyptic Racing Film
From cult icon Roger Corman comes the sensational, action-packed film “Death Race 2050,” sequel to his 1975 post-apocalyptic picture “Death Race 2000.” The red band trailer, which was recently released, features even more car crashes, explosions, blood and pedestrian fatalities.
Directed by G.J. Echternkamp, the film is set in the year 2050 when America is controlled by a powerful corporate government ruled by The Chairman (Malcom McDowell). The story follows the most violent event of the year, as drivers compete cross-country in a road race, scoring points for shamelessly running people over, as well as crashing each other off the road.
“Now this is all about freedom,” says The Chairman. “The freedom to sit on your big, fat ass all day and watch the single greatest sports event known to man. Welcome to the Death Race.”

50 points for running over seniors! Now that’s bloody fun.
Legendary filmmaker Roger Corman produced a new re-imagined Grindhouse-style Death Race 2050, starring Manu Bennett and Malcom McDowell.
In this high-octane race, a corporate government devised a way to maintain population control in futuristic America in the year 2050 by having a crew of violent drivers competing in a cross-country road race. As the drivers compete for the crown, they score extra points for running innocent people and killing each other on the path. And the crowds will love it.
The reigning champion and fan favorite, Frankenstein (Bennett), who’s half-man and half-machine, wants to take the crown, but his rebel spy co-pilot threatens his legacy.
The rest of the cast features Burt Grinstead, Marci Miller, Folake Olowofoyeku, Anessa Ramsey, Yancy Butler and Charlie Farrell. G.J. Echternkamp directed the film from the screenplay he co-wrote with Matt Yamashita.

Roger Corman, the legendary producer who has over 400 credits to his name and mentored directors like James Cameron, Joe Dante, and dozens of others, is back with a sequel to Death Race 2000, the cult classic he produced back in 1975. This one's called Death Race 2050, and as you might expect, it takes place fifty years later but retains the premise of the original: there's a race, and drivers get points for taking out pedestrians (and bonus points for wiping out the elderly). The original is a fun piece of satire that was perfect for its time, but I'm not quite sure if that sort of skuzzy charm will still be in tact in a version made in 2016.
(Note: this appears to be a direct sequel to the '75 original, which means it probably ignores the events of the Death Race remakes.)

We’re just over a month away from Halloween and there are no less than four major UK horror festivals on the horizon, so what better time to take a look at you choice of “home video” horror – with ten of the best independent horror movies to rent or buy on TheHorrorShow.TV
The Top 10, in no particular order, are…
Camp Dread
Mixing the slasher movie with reality TV doesn’t seem like the best idea for horror movie, especially considering the mainstream backlash against both genres, but surprisingly Camp Dread manages to overcome it’s much-maligned origins. Of course any slasher movie set at a summer camp is going to be filled with the tropes of the genre and this film is no different – although this time around the stereotypes and cliches which would typically hinder such a production actually work in its favour. By embracing what made the...

I had so much fun doing the Top Ten Underrated Horror movies list last year and it provoked such a good debate that I thought it would be good to put another ten out there for discussion. Horror is a genre which is flooded with more unseen product that any other due to the amount that goes straight to DVD and now of course streaming over the internet. I could literally do a new list every year of ten films that are unknown by the public at large and should be seen.
Now this is not a definitive list, at a push if I had to, I would say last year was my definitive list but I would probably add some stuff you likely can’t even get anymore. Also I understand that these films are known or beloved by the horror fan but the intention here is to put...

It takes more than gore and guts to impress true slasher fans now a days. Horror audiences have pretty much seen it all, from murderous dolls to dream haunters to evil leprechauns, but Hollywood can’t seem to line up enough sexy co-eds to sacrifice for our enjoyment.
Padraig Reynolds’ country fried horror Rites of Spring was the most recent felon to criminalize my beloved genre, capitalizing on nothing but recycled themes. I admit, I have my guilty pleasure delights which display less than captivating storytelling countered by an over-abundance of insanity, but Reynolds’ script fails to channel any such entertainment.
With so many discussion points amidst this debacle, lets start with Reynolds’ choice to mix a kidnapping thriller with a slasher film. The director thought it would be fun and inventive to have criminals get caught in a scenario way over their heads, akin to films like The Horde and From Dusk Till Dawn,...

One of the finest actresses working in independent film these days has to be Anessa Ramsey, who stole genre fans' hearts a few years back as Mya in the psychological thriller The Signal, which debuted at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival.
Since then, she's gone on to co-star in another mind-bending horror flick called YellowBrickRoad that premiered at the 2012 Slamdance Film Festival and also worked on projects outside the genre including The 5th Quarter and the Footloose remake.
Now Ramsey is set to return to the horror world with first-time feature filmmaker Padraig Reynolds' film Rites of Spring, which will hit selected theaters this Friday, July 27th. The heist caper meets creature feature has been described as a 'genre-bending mash-up' akin to From Dusk Till Dawn and for very good reason- just when you think you've settled into one of Reynolds' creepy worlds, he comes at you out of nowhere...

The upcoming indie creature feature, Rites of Spring has media outlets chattering, big time. Dare I say for good reason? This feature sounds like everything one could ask for from a horror film: malicious kidnapping, ransom… an absolutely grotesque monster. Sounds like a dream flick right? Padraig Reynolds writes and directs this seasonal chiller, which offers forth an impressive cast made up of Katherine Randolph (Jarhead), Anessa Ramsey (The Signal), Skylar Burke, Hannah Bryan (Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies), Shanna Forrestall (The Last Exorcism) and indie horror stud, Aj Bowen (The House of the Devil).

*here be some spoilers. Director/writer: Padraig Reynolds. Cast: Katherine Randolph, Anessa Ramsey, Aj Bowen, Hannah Bryan, Marco St. John and Sonny Marinelli. Rites of Spring is Padraig Reynolds' first feature as director. This title is meant to be the first of three pictures that deal with a Pagan god, of sorts. The film found here brings two genres together in a compelling fashion: a crime thriller and a horror film. This blend of formulas brings new life into the slasher film. As well, Reynolds, shows a lot of quality and dedication in this first feature. Rites of Spring begins with a series of disappearances. Unbelievably, these disappearances continues for twenty-four years. And, no one thought to call the FBI? With that unusual plot point aside, an older farmer stalks a couple of women leaving a nearby bar. He captures them. Later, he tortures, humiliates, and bleeds these two...

IFC Midnight is bringing Padraig Reynolds' Rites of Spring to VOD on July 27th. A New York theatrical release is planned for that day as well.
Starring Aj Bowen and Anessa Ramsey (both stars of The Signal), the film concerns a group of kidnappers abduct the daughter of a wealthy socialite and hide out in an abandoned school in the middle of the woods. But feelings of guilt soon overtake the kidnappers, dividing the group and putting their entire plan in jeopardy.
The evening further spirals out of control when their poorly chosen hideout becomes a hunting ground for a mysterious creature that requires springtime ritualistic sacrifices.

Rites Of Spring
Stars: Anessa Ramsey, Aj Bowen, Katherine Randolph, Sonny Marinelli | Written and Directed by Padraig Reynolds
In the spring of 1984 five teenagers went missing including Mississippi Beauty Queen Tara Grinstead. Then suddenly, the disappearances stopped. But the following spring it began again with the vanishing of a string of young girls, most notably Wendy Mullins, honours student and valedictorian of her graduating class. For the next 24 years the disappearances continued. No bodies were ever recovered.
Flash forward to 2008 and after a night out drowning her work-related sorrows, Rachel and her friend are drugged and taken captive by a strange old man right in the parking lot. At the same time a group of kidnappers hatch a plan to take and ransom the daughter of a wealthy industrialist. However their plan goes awry, and not just because one of the gang plans to double-cross his fellow kidnappers…
