Filmmaking is incredibly hard work, said everybody who's ever made one for our enjoyment. It’s especially a trial by fire for inexperienced movie magicians, hoping that the wand will strike at least once or twice and that they just survive. With his reputation as a BTS guru with Blue Underground and Dark Sky Films in full swing, Severin Films’ David Gregory set out to make his feature debut, Plague Town (2008)—a tense homage to classic British and foreign horror infused with a fresh feel for the present. And now, a Blu from Severin that houses not only a surprisingly effective chiller, but also behind-the-scenes features that painstakingly showcase a vision dragged kicking and screaming all the way to the screening room.
It is odd for me to be discussing a film this recent. However, it makes perfect sense in context to the creators; Gregory and his co-writer John Cregan...

The original Castle Freak was released in 1995 and directed by cult horror director Stuart Gordon who is best known for the highly entertaining Re-Animator and Dolls. Starring Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton, Castle Freak was also well received and has since picked up a cult following. A following big enough for it to receive this 2020 remake.
Now I’m not as anti-remake as many filmgoers seem to be. The horror genre has plenty of them but it has plenty of good ones too. From The Thing to The Fly to Let Me In and Dawn of the Dead, I could carry on and name more but these prove enough that remakes can be great. Unfortunately Castle Freak is far from great.

One of those horror films that leaves a lingering impression, Stuart Gordon’s 1995 Castle Freak made a huge impact on audiences and remains a firm favourite with many genre fans. Now there’s a new Castle Freak out there courtesy of director Tate Steinsiek, and it’s also causing a stir. Tate had a lot to tell me in our recent interview, including his hope that this film will open the gates for a series of new cinematic ventures into the world of Hp Lovecraft, but I began by asking him if he experienced any trepidation about taking on such a well established genre work.

"Whatever's hiding in the walls – I think it lives here." Rlje Films has revealed the official trailer for an indie horror remake called Castle Freak, a brand new update of the original 1995 cult classic horror also titled Castle Freak directed by Stuart Gordon. The film is a "reimagining" of the original, starring Barbara Crampton (who is producing this new one). An Albanian castle with bloodthirsty creatures is inherited by a young woman. She must unravel her family's mysterious history before she too falls prey to the Castle Freak. This new Castle Freak stars Clair Catherine, Jake Horowitz, Chris Galust, Kika Magalhaes, Emily Sweet, Elisha Pratt, and Omar Shariff Brunson Jr. This looks uber creepy and extra gory, it also looks incredibly cliche and derivative, offering nothing but the same old horror tropes. Stay away from this castle. Here's the new official trailer (+ poster) for Tate Steinsiek's Castle Freak, direct...

Fangoria and Full Moon are producing a remake of the classic 1995 horror film Castle Freak. This movie is considered a cult classic that centered on a horrific creature lurking within the shadows of a castle.
The original film was produced Charles Band, who hired Re-Animator director Stuart Gordon to helm it. Band had a poster created for the film project that didn’t even have a script and told Gordon he could do whatever he wanted with it as long as it had a castle and a freak in the story.
So, Gordon ended up turning it into a loose horror film adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s short story The Outsider and he cast Re-Animator stars Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton to star in it.

When you deliver pizzas, you could encounter anyone on the other side of the front door, including murderous satanic cult members. Such is the case for a pizza delivery woman in Fangoria's new movie Satanic Panic, which now has a director.
Deadline reports that Chelsea Stardust is set to direct Satanic Panic, a new horror comedy coming from Cinestate's Fangoria. Stardust, who has worked on a long list of Blumhouse projects and recently directed her first feature-length project (All That We Destroy), will direct from a screenplay by acclaimed author Grady Hendrix, who came up with the film's story idea with filmmaker Ted Geoghegan.
Renowned makeup artist Tate Steinsiek, who is directing the Castle Freak reboot for Cinestate, will take on the film's special effects, with Cinestate’s Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmyk on board to produce along with Adam Goldworm from Aperture Entertainment. Executive producing the movie are Fangoria...

Exclusive: Fangoria has set Chelsea Stardust to direct Satanic Panic, an After Hours-esque horror comedy with a dash of gore. The Grady Hendrix-penned script is about a pizza delivery girl at the end of her financial rope who has to fight for her life — and her tips — when her last order of the night turns out to be high society Satanists in need of a virgin sacrifice. Casting is already underway and principal photography is set for October in North Texas.
Cinestate’s Dallas Sonnier (Bone Tomahawk) & Amanda Presmyk (Dragged Across Concrete) will produce for Fangoria with Aperture Entertainment’s Adam Goldworm (Masters Of Horror). Fangoria’s Phil Nobile Jr. and Adam Donaghey will be exec producers. Hendrix wrote the story with Ted Geoghegan. Tate Steinsiek is on board to handle the special effects.

Following its well-received screening at the 2018 Overlook Film Festival, Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich (written by Bone Tomahawk director S. Craig Zahler) was acquired for North American distribution by Rlje Films. It's been playing the festival circuit and will be getting a Us theatrical and VOD release on August 17th. Having seen the movie at Fantasia, I can say that this movie has some of the most insane and bloody kills ever put on screen, and if you want to see some of that for yourself ahead of August 17th, take a look at the newly released red band trailer:
"The reimagining of the Full Moon Features cult classic stars Thomas Lennon (TV’s “Reno 911!”), Jenny Pellicer (TV’s “Cocaine Godmother”), Nelson Franklin (TV’s “Veep”), Charlyne Yi (This is 40), Michael Pare (Eddie and the Cruisers), and Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator). The iconic Udo Kier (Brawl in Cell Block 99) stars as the titular character.

For well over a decade, Tate Steinsiek has brought nightmares to life in cinema and television with his amazing makeup effects, and soon he'll help bring scares to the screen behind the camera as the director of Cinestate's Castle Freak reboot.

One of the most unexpected projects was reported this week, as news broke that Quentin Tarantino had conceived of an idea for a “Star Trek” movie that impressed Hollywood heavyweight J.J. Abrams. Tarantino is allegedly sharing the idea with a group of writers and may direct the project. Considering the filmmaker’s long-standing independence from the studio system and especially franchises, IndieWire’s staff debated the prospects of this sudden mid-career twist.
Eric Kohn: No major American filmmaker has flaunted his autonomy from the Hollywood system more than Quentin Tarantino, whose characters speak and whose movies move in ways that are forever connected to his name. So the idea of Tarantino — who flirted with studio projects early in his success before paving his own path — could have anything to do with a “Star Trek” movie is a bit baffling. Although I love the idea of a Qt/Jj combo, the suggestion that Tarantino’s energetic,...

Nicole and Brady's on-the-run story is so ridiculous it's tempting just to laugh at it.
On this week's Days of Our Lives, Nicole and Brady entertained their nosy neighbors, then Scooter recognized Nicole while she was changing her shirt.
This kind of plot belongs on a bad sitcom, the kind that has to insert canned laughter because nobody really finds it funny.
It has no place on a soap opera, especially because things took a dark turn that is not funny at all.
From the beginning, this storyline has been senseless. Chloe impregnated herself with Nicole and Daniel's baby as a favor to Nicole, then turned around and said Nicole was so evil and horrible that she should never be around children.
That made almost as much sense as a judge siding with Chloe even though legally, she had absolutely no right to the baby.
Now, though, it's crossed the line into offensiveness.

Steve told Tripp that he’d killed his mother, Chad got his revenge against Deimos, and Adrienne finally made her choice this week in Salem.
Our TV Fanatics Jack Ori and Christine Orlando are joined by Fossie and Tinab from MyHourglass a Days of Our Lives fan forum to debate if Adrienne made the right choice, if Brady is being ridiculous, and who is the most sympathetic person on Days of Our Lives.
Is Brady being ridiculous for expecting an instant family with Nicole?
Jack: I think Brady is being completely ridiculous. He's not even considering Nicole's opinion or feelings. He's decided this is what he wants, and therefore, she needs to go along with it.
It would be nice if they talked about it and decided together, like adults, but that's asking too much of Brady, I guess.
Christine: I can’t agree with Jack enough. Brady is annoyingly ridiculous.

Some of the greatest soap drama comes from tragic heroes.
These characters have been so damaged by painful life experiences that they feel worthless and get in their own way, sometimes with tragic consequences.
That kind of drama is what drew me to Jj and to Nicole, two characters who have since been completely rewritten to lose both their zest for life and their heartbreaking self-esteem problems.
It also made Jack and Jennifer's relationship interesting back in the day, because the conflict primarily came from Jack's overwhelming sense of guilt and fear.
And it could make Eric an interesting character now, if only Days of Our Lives would put an original spin on it and not just try to copy what Jack and Jennifer had.
Eric certainly has reason to feel guilty. He has to live with the fact that he got drunk and killed his best friend in a car accident about 18 months ago,...

Another true crime story is coming to primetime.
The two-hour documentary, Truth and Lies: The Family Manson, airing tonight on ABC, will revisit the brutal murders of Sharon Tate -- who was pregnant at the time -- and five of her friends that took place at her Hollywood home on Aug. 8, 1969, while her husband, Roman Polanski, was out of town. There is something inherently frustrating about the prospect of university life. As a college student, you can feel as if you’re stuck in limbo. You’re obviously no longer a child as sex, drugs and alcohol pervade your everyday world, yet you’re not really an adult — totally free of the burdens of the 9-to-5 rat race for at least a few more years. A feeling of unease can fall over you, as there’s always a kegger or a party to attend while lovers change partners more often than bed-sheets.
Everybody Wants Some!!, the long-awaited spiritual sequel to Richard Linklater‘s classic comedy Dazed & Confused is now out in theaters. In the film, a college freshman (Blake Jenner) arrives at school to find that his new baseball teammates are an out-of-control, alcohol-fueled army of irresponsible party-dudes.
