The book published on August 10 by HarperOne follows New Orleans’ Edna Karr football team through its 2019 season as head coach Brice Brown and his team—perhaps the scrappiest and most rebellious group in the program’s history—vie to again succeed on and off the field.
Although Coach Brown is preparing for a fourth title, he is really focused on something else: keeping his players alive. An epidemic of gun violence plagues New Orleans and its surrounding communities and has claimed many innocent lives, including that of his former star quarterback, Tollette “Tonka” George, who was shot in 2016 near a local gas station.

If You thought the comics-to-film trend was running out of steam, you'd be wrong. It's now been revealed that new graphic novels Trespassers and Bolivar are heading to the big screen.
According to Variety, Ryan E. Heppe is to produce a film of Scott Hampton's supernatural graphic novel Trespassers, with the screenplay to be adapted by Bob Gale (above).
Bob co-scripted the three Back to the Future films and has also written for comics, including Batman, Spider-Man and Daredevil.
Trespassers centres on a group of mythbusters who aim to debunk the legend of a famous haunted house. But their scientific logic is tested when they discover demonic guardians, a gateway to hell and that not all of them are who they claim to be. No director or casting is yet in place.
Heppe said: "A good horror flick needs one thing: a simple, original premise that's terrifying as hell.

Sean Rubin.s upcoming graphic novel Bolivar must be a winner. It doesn.t even reach stores until May 2013, and already it has a production and distribution deal with a major Hollywood studio. That would be Warner Bros., which THR reports has picked up the rights to Rubin.s story for Akiva Goldsman and Kerry Foster to produce through their Weed Road banner. Irish director Kealan O.Rourke already has been tapped to helm the adaptation, which will be an animated retelling of Rubin.s modern-day fairy tale. The lead character in Bolivar is actually named Sybil, a young girl whose family moves to New York City, only to discover that their neighbor is the last living dinosaur on our planet. Named Bolivar, the dino becomes fast friends with Sybil and gradually emerges from the shelter of his apartment to go on grand adventures with the inquisitive little girl. Though...

In a story on Kristen Bell joining the cast of Jennifer Getzinger's cinematic adaptation of Neil Labute's play "Some Girls," The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively revealed that the actress-formerly-known-as-Veronica Mars will "provide the speaking and singing voice" as the lead in Disney's upcoming feature "Frozen," which means she will play the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale character the Snow Queen (first published way back in 1845). Additionally, the trade states that Warner Bros. and Weed Road (Akiva Goldsman's WB-based production shingle) have picked up the forthcoming graphic novel "Bolivar" for Irish animator Kealan O'Rourke to write and direct.
Tucked away in the "Some Girls"/"Frozen" story is the tidbit that Chris Buck, a legendary animator who worked on everything from Brad Bird's "Family Dog" episode of "Amazing Stories" to "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" to "Little Mermaid," before co-directing Disney's lush 1999 animated feature "Tarzan" (with Kevin Lima), will direct.

For various reasons — ones that probably don’t require much explanation — yours truly feels that few (if any) mediums conform to animation as well as comics. The western genre has started to become a trend on television lately as ABC's Hangtown, CBS' The Rifleman, and TNT's The Gateway are all currently in development, not to mention AMC's current show Hell on Wheels. Now, HBO is stepping up to the plate with a series of its own based on the life of Doc Holliday. The currently untitled series is being developed by notable screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) and will take its cues from Mary Doria Russell’s critically praised novel Doc, published back in May. Though mostly known for his friendship with Wyatt Earp and his involvement in the famous gunfight at the O.K. Corral, the new series will focus on seldom highlighted portions of Doc Holliday's life, such as a love triangle between his prostitute wife, Kate Elder, Wyatt Earp, and himself. Goldsman's frequent collaborator Ron Howard will direct the eventual pilot episode.

That lovable rascal Ron Howard is also attached to direct the burgeoning pilot, with his parents, Rance and Judy Howard even serving as co-producers, making this a family affair. I even hear that his Uncle Sebastian Howard is catering the piece. The latter comment is a lie.

Akiva Goldsman has signed a two-year exclusive overall deal with HBO with the first project being an untitled Western drama series about Doc Holliday reports Deadline.
The show will be inspired by Mary Doria Russell’s critically praised novel Doc which is set before the consumption-riddled sidekick of Wyatt Earp interpretation we're used to seeing in films such as Val Kilmer's acclaimed portrayal in "Tombstone".

Javier Bardem is having one helluva week! Along with being nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for Biutiful and becoming a new dad to a bouncing baby boy (mom is Penelope Cruz), he's been named as the number one pick to portray gunslinger Roland Deschain in Ron Howard's The Dark Tower with an offer officially being made by director Howard and Universal Pictures.
Here's the skinny according to Deadline: While formal negotiations haven't yet begun, there's a high level of enthusiasm internally that they've got their cowboy. Deschain is the last living member of a knightly order of gunslingers and humanity’s last hope to save a civilization that will fall unless he finds the Dark Tower.

Exclusive: Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink will helm the remake of The Toxic Avenger, which he'll write with Daniel C. Mitchell. Deadline revealed last April that remake rights to the Troma Films seminal title were acquired by producers Akiva Goldsman, Richard Saperstein and Charlie Corwin. That package was expansive and included the 1984 original, four sequels, an animated TV series and comic books. Corwin's Original Media, which is a partnership with Dutch reality TV maker Endemol, is funding development of what the makers call an environmentally-conscious action-comedy. In the original, the protagonist is a mop-wielding simpleton named Melvin, whose trusting ways made him easy prey for gym thugs who tossed him into a vat of toxic waste. The transformation into Toxie didn't help his complexion, but gave him rippling muscles to wreak havoc on New Jersey polluters. The byproduct was that despite his misshapen appearance, the chicks finally...

The director of The Fourth Kind is at it again with a new feature film concerning an interesting and nasty bit of found footage. Get ready to gaze in horror at Olatunde Osunsanmi's Dark Moon. Why can't I stop lauging after writing that? Why?!?!?
According to Deadline New York Warner Bros. and Akiva Goldsman's Weed Road has acquired Dark Moon, a spec script drama that was written and will be directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi (pictured below). The spec explores the possibility that manned moon missions did not stop with Apollo 17. Using found footage, it makes the case for a black ops post-Apollo mission sent to the moon to explore previously classified discoveries and its unintended and disturbing consequences. Goldsman and Kerry Foster will produce for Weed Road.
Look for more on this one as it comes.

Stephen King fans may have been a little disappointed last year when they learned that Lost creators J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof had re-evaluated their plans to adapt The Dark Tower series. They initially bought the rights from King a while back for just $19, but after spending so much time focused on one thing (Lost) and being "terrified" of screwing up one of their favourite books, they ended up giving the rights back. In their place, Ron Howard has stepped in to tackle this post-apocalyptic western-tinged fantasy saga with the hopes of turning it into both a movie and a TV series. Details were somewhat murky [1] when the news first hit back in April, but now this week we have an update on the project and his intriguing idea to tell the story across multiple mediums. According to The Hollywood Reporter [2], Howard is aiming to turn the 7-book series into...

Today’s news keeps getting better and better…
Universal Pictures just sent out a press release detailing their “unprecedented” plans for bringing Stephen King’s epic Dark Tower series to the big And small screen. Universal plans as of now are to make three films and then move the story onto a weekly series on NBC. Not excited enough? Well how about Ron Howard directing the first film and first season of the series, while Akiva Goldsmith writes the first season? Yea, you are excited, because I’m ecstatic!!!
If you can remember, the Dark Tower series had been in the hands of Lost showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. They later stepped away from the project due to not wanting to upset die-hard fans or doing the series injustice. After Cuse and Lindelof left the project, the fanbase had come to the conclusion that maybe the massive project couldn’t be adapted.

Producer Joel "Lethal Weapon" Silver has revealed that his developing feature adaptation of DC's "Sgt. Rock" for Warners, to be directed by Francis "I Am Legend" Lawrence, is going to take "Sgt.
