Courtney Love has never been shy when it comes to sharing her opinions about other people. Going all the way back to the early Nineties, the Hole singer has generated headlines by publicly trashing rock musicians, pop singers, movie stars, and even members of her own family. It’s a level of brutal candor you rarely see with public figures, but as Courtney Love told Rolling Stone in 1994, she simply doesn’t care what others think about her. “If people try to put me in the crazy box–’crazy fucking Courtney’–go ahead,...

“’I sacrificed my love on the altars of fame,’ Leonard Cohen said in the ‘70s,” “So Long, Marianne” showrunner Øystein Karlsen notes. Cohen was referring of course to his ‘60s decade-long relationship with Norway’s Marianne Ilhen, which shaped him for life.
One of the highest-profile and most anticipated world premieres in Series Mania main competition, “So Long, Marianne” is a coming of age love story which, in a quietly innovative, genre-breaking turn, asks whether the place in the world chosen by one character, Leonard Cohen, was always for his good.
Sold by Cineflix Rights as an eight-part series, “So Long, Marianne” begins in 1959 focusing on Norway’s Marianne Ilhen and Cohen’s love idyll on Hydra, a Greek island, which Ilhen reaches as the partner of budding Norwegian novelist Axel Jensen, and Cohen looking to find a place where, he says in Episode 1, he “can take responsibility for my own identity.

The further we get from the Nineties, the more it looks like a series of musical golden ages all stacked atop one another, a kaleidoscopic moment when grimy hip-hop and future-shock R&b hit artistic and commercial peaks at the same time as a procession of fuzz-pedal-toting rock bands found themselves at the center of pop culture.
It was the best-ever era for one-hit wonders, even as major labels — suddenly uncertain in era when Nirvana or Wu-Tang Clan could beat out manicured product — also threw money at career artists from Fiona Apple to Outkast.

Jbl Fest came to Las Vegas for the first time this year, partnering with the music festival Life Is Beautiful to bring a blend of sound, festivity, and surprise to the strip. It was only my second time in Las Vegas and my first time at a music festival in many years, so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. But performances by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Killers, late-night appearances from Bruno Mars, and plenty of quirky touches created a nostalgia-fueled trip that simultaneously brought me back to the past and anchored me fully in the whirlwind present.
The festival was based at the Park MGM, a proudly eco-friendly hotel that charmed me from the get-go. After grabbing some snacks (and a complementary pair of bluetooth headphones) at Jbl's hospitality lounge, I spent the first afternoon of the two-day festival wandering around the spacious pool area and...

Doja Cat has dropped the new single “Attention,” a hopeful little taste of what her as-yet-unannounced fourth album might sound like.
Built around a funky, mid-tempo beat with swirling harps galore, the track shows off Doja’s newer, rawer direction. In May, the 27-year-old claimed that her previous two albums were “cash-grabs,” tweeting: “I realized I hadn’t done anything personal and that I was cranking out digestible pop hits for children on Twitter to get into fights about.” Focusing more on rap verses than sugary pop hooks, “Attention” builds on the same theme, with lyrics like “You follow me, but you don’t really care about the music” to boot.
The accompanying music video is a change of pace for Doja too — whereas the videos for Planet Her’s singles played upon her knack for sexual playfulness, the video for “Attention” offers stark images like Doja covered head-to-toe in...

Courtney Love, 58, posted a tribute to her late husband Kurt Cobain on Instagram, marking the 29th anniversary of his death. The image was a black-and-white photo of Cobain’s hands clasped together that was taken by R.E.M. singer Michael Stipe.
Love wrote, “It is one of the only images (or sounds/ tastes etc) that makes me miss him deeply. He chanted with me & often, & truly was moved by our Buddhist practice. Thus, I know he’s in an enlightened place, more so, than we here in mappo are.”
Cobain is known as the lead vocalist for the band Nirvana. The 90s rock group helped popularize the grunge scene in the Pacific Northwest with singles like “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Come As You Are.”
Love, the lead singer of Hole, and Cobain married in 1992. Cobain died by suicide on April 5, 1994. The couple shared one child together, daughter Frances Bean.

Director Mike Newell has set an August shoot at U.K. locations for “China Court.”
The film will be directed by Newell from a script by Brian Kinsey, based on the 1961 novel “China Court: The Hours of a Country House” by Rumer Godden.
The film centers around a house, China Court, and the family that inhabits it. The film follows generations of the family over a century, up to the death of the matriarch in 1961. Characters move seamlessly in and out of each other’s timelines as they grow up, fall in love, fall out with each other and – always – pass on to those who follow them the consequences of their actions.
“White Noise” producer Uri Singer has joined forces with Echo Lake’s Mike Marcus (“The Ward”) and U.K.-based Pippa Cross to produce the film.
Fortitude International’s Nadine de Barros and Singer’s Passage Pictures are financing the film.

The first episode of Season 2 of “Yellowjackets,” which is now streaming on Showtime, features songs from Sharon Van Etten and Tori Amos that the drama’s creators had been trying to find a place for since the hit show debuted.
Van Etten’s teen angst track “17” opens the episode, and co-creator Ashley Lyle explained to TheWrap that she was blown away when when realized that the singer-songwriter is a big “Yellowjackets” fan.
“I went to see a show at the Greek last summer and it was Angel Olsen and Sharon Van Etten,” Lyle said. “I was totally unprepared, because when Sharon came on, the lights all went out and all the house lights went down. And then she opened her set with the audio from the scene of Natalie (Juliette Lewis) in the rehab center and I felt like I was having an out-of-body experience. I was like, ‘What’s happening?...

Chicago – In the underbelly of American society, if you dig deep enough, there is also an underbelly to the underbelly. When a New Zealand journalist named David Farrier goes to such depths, on a story about competitive tickling (yes, tickling people to laughing fits), he gets much more that he bargained for.
“Tickled” is the result of his investigation. The word “investigation” seems silly for a look into a tickling fetish world, but the more Farrier gets closer to the truth, the more he is harassed and threatened. Who is doing the harassment and threatening is the major thesis in the film, in surprising and chilling ways.

Sony Pictures has confirmed that starting at 10am Pacific time today, you will be able to rent James Franco and Seth Rogen's comedy The Interview on YouTube, Google Play, and Xbox for only $5.99. You will also have the option to buy it for $14.99 which is pretty much the cost of admission for seeing a movie here in Los Angeles. There's also an official website that has been set up for anyone who may not have access to those services. There have been talks of the film being made available on Netflix in the next few days as well, but there's no confirmation of that yet. It's good to see that Sony didn't let the hackers win. Enjoy the movie! Hopefully it was worth all the insanity.
If you would rather watch the movie in theaters, below you'll find a full list of where the movie will be playing on...

Refresh for latest… Here’s a list of theaters confirmed to be showing Sony’s The Interview on Christmas Day after the studio worked with indie chains on a release plan finalized this morning. The venues have a deadline of 6 Pm Pt today to decide whether to run the movie on December 25, as Sony must send theaters the movie hard drives in time to make Christmas Day screenings. Some theaters are booking the film for later in the month or into January, so that deadline isn’t looming as large. As of 4 Pm, more than 200 theaters had signed on.
This is all happening fast so this list will continue to grow. We’re hearing that there are still internal discussions among art houses about whether to add the pic to their schedules, with security and previous commitments among the concerns. Some of the theaters had planned to be dark on Christmas Day,...

David Letterman had a sketch in 1983 called "They Took My Show Away" — an after-school special where Dave helps coach a little kid to be a more responsible TV watcher. ("Jimmy, are you gonna do homework all night? Don't you think you ought to watch a little TV?") But when NBC cancels little Jimmy's favorite show, Voyagers, Dave takes him for a walk in the park to break the tragic news. Heartbroken, the kid sobs, "I don't think I'll ever watch TV again!"
Dave takes off his shades and frowns.

A mix of puppetry, animation, parodies, improv and absurdist humour, the 25 projects selected will each receive $10,000 to produce three short-form sketches.

Justin Timberlake is apologizing for a video that features homeless and incoherent people in Los Angeles congratulating Timberlake and his new bride, Jessica Biel. The eight-and-a-half-minute video, produced by Timberlake's close friend Justin Huchel, is called "Greetings from Your Hollywood Friends Who Just Couldn't Make It."
An excerpt of the video was first posted on the gossip website Gawker on Oct. 24 and generated much negative attention for what viewers felt was an insensitive and degrading treatment of others. It subsequently was taken down, after Huchel's legal team threatened a lawsuit against the site and called the video "a private joke without Mr. Timberlake's knowledge."
In a lengthy "open letter" posted to his website, Timberlake confirmed that he was unaware of the video but apologized for its existence nevertheless. He also said that the movie was not shown as his wedding, contrary to reports. An excerpt of his statement is below:...

The happy couple will be Mr. & Mrs. Timberlake before the year is up! Read on for more details! It looks like Justin Timberlake and on-and-off girlfriend of five years Jessica Biel are finally ready to tie the knot! After becoming engaged while on a ski vacation in Jackson Hole, Wyoming in late December, the pair are reportedly gearing up for a summer wedding at a private estate, a source tells Us Weekly. As for the dress, the bride-to-be has only one name on her mind: wedding gown maven Monique Lhullier. "Monique Lhuillier is her No. 1 choice for the dress," the insider reveals. The notoriously private couple have yet to officially confirm their engagement. On Jan. 15, Jessica sparked rumours to the contrary after a much talked-about appearance at the Golden Globes, where people were less concerned with what she was wearing than what she wasn't — her engagement ring. It's official: ghost-busting Blues Brother Dan Aykroyd is going back to his roots—because this funnyman has just become the third "Saturday Night Live" alum to join the cast of the political comedy "Dog Fight." (A comedy about politics? Surely we jest.)
'Tis true, good citizens. Aykroyd has teamed up with former 30 Rock employees Will Ferrell and Jason Sudeikis in this story of two rival South Carolina politicians with presidential aspirations who tangle with each other. Something tells us things get dirty.
Zach Galifianakis (not an "SNL" alum) also stars, and the rounded out cast list includes John Lithgow, Dylan McDermott, Brian Cox, Josh Lawson, Gary Grubbs and P.J. Byrne, Movie Hole reports.
Aykroyd has some legit experience channeling a Southerner, as he recently portrayed President Jimmy Carter in Funny or Die’s ‘Presidential Reunion’ Sketch, which was pretty awesome. Oh, and he owns the House of Blues restaurant chain.

HollywoodNews.com: Kristen Wiig–who’s become a hot commodity with “Bridesmaids” this year–has wrapped her latest film in time for the new season “Saturday Night Live.” It may also be her last season, I’m told by a source.
Wiig, along with Jason Sudeikis, has enough of a film career to graduate at the end of this season. “Imogene,” a movie I announced her exclusively last spring, costars Annette Bening. Matt Dillon and Darren Criss. “Imogene” is produced by Trudie Styler and Celine Rattray‘s Maven Pictures with some new partners 10th Hole Entertainment joining Anonymous Content’s Alix Madigan, Gambit Productions, and Ambush Entertainment. Kristen, by the way, also has a co-starring role in Jennifer Westfeldt’s excellent comedy “Friends with Kids,” to be released by Lions Gate.

If they make the perfect comedic pair—why change it? Warner Brothers Pictures acquired the rights to comedy “Turkey Bowl” for actors Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. According to Variety, Ferrell, Adam McKay and Chris Henchy will be producers under the Gary Sanchez Productions. And Wahlberg will be an additional producer with his company Closest to the Hole Prods. “Turkey Bowl” is about two guys from football-obsessed towns who lead rival teams in the annual Thanksgiving tackle football game. Deadline also reported the film will include several cameos similar to “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Actor Alec Baldwin has signed on to play Wahlberg’s father. The script will be written by Robert Carlock (“30 Rock,” “Saturday Night Live”) and Scott Silveri (“Perfect Couples,” “Friends”). You have to love an author that takes the whole family fun, wholesome image of Disney World and twists it into something spooky and malevolent.
I first came across Ms. Schoonover’s writing in Morpheus Tales Undead Issue with her story “Ghost Light”. One of the highlights of that issue for me.

On Tuesday (May 24), Stone Temple Pilots will drop their new self-titled album, which represents their comeback after nearly a decade on the rocks and the sixth of their career. The group has survived a lifetime of trouble, from attacks from critics to the substance abuse troubles of problematic frontman Scott Weiland. But they're back on track with a new album and a killer live show, and it's time to reevaluate their entire career.
Stone Temple Pilots got off on the wrong foot back in 1993 when their breakout single "Plush" turned them into instant MTV and modern rock radio staples. Their biggest sin? "Plush" (and Weiland's vocal in particular) sounded a bit like Pearl Jam (of course, so did every other rock band who dropped a single in '93). When Trent Reznor announced that he would be retiring Nine Inch Nails after a brief tour at the end of this summer, all he promised were beefed up setlists and "a few surprises." After the first two shows in New York — one each at the tiny Bowery Ballroom and the slightly less tiny Webster Hall — it's clear that Reznor wasn't kidding. After pulling out a few rarities at Saturday night's show (including the band's rarely-played cover of Joy Division's "Dead Souls"), the Nine Inch Nails frontman satisfied what appeared to be a long-held desire in front of about 1,400 diehards: He played his 1994 album The Downward Spiral in its entirety on Sunday night (August 23).
Though Reznor's debut Pretty Hate Machine had gotten him the initial attention he deserved, The Downward Spiral made him a star. That's pretty odd considering that record is an incredibly dense, harsh and at times violent descent into Reznor's warped mind.
