Be nice to waiters. That’s the first lesson of new four-part BBC One drama Boiling Point. Be nice to waiters not only because it’s nice to be nice, but because however calm and smiling they emerge from behind those flapping kitchen doors, inside blows a hurricane. Personal dramas and business pressures, dodgy colleagues, nightmare customers, shifts that end at midnight and leave you buzzing with adrenaline that needs to go somewhere… it’s the perfect cocktail for dysfunction and conflict. Handily, that in turn is the perfect cocktail for TV drama, as we know from rightly critically acclaimed US series The Bear (watch that and watch this too; there’s plenty of room for both.)
Boiling Point’s second lesson is just to let this creative team get on with it. Give them a second series with the full six episodes immediately, please, because they clearly know what they’re doing.

It’s been two years since the chaotic events of Boiling Point, actor-turned-director Philip Barantini’s audacious one-shot kitchen drama set over one hectic night in a busy, upmarket London restaurant and starring Stephen Graham as Andy Jones, a stressed-out head chef on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
The film — Barantini’s debut feature (and based on his own experiences in the hospitality industry) — was a major success, landing four BAFTA nominations (including Graham’s first on the film side) and winning four of its 11 British Independent Film Award nominations.
While the natural response to such a hit would be to make a follow up, Boiling Point will instead be returning on the small screen, BBC Studios in 2022 announcing a new five-part series that will pick up eight months on from the film’s momentous night. Due to land on the BBC later this year (BBC Studios is shopping...

Multiple heavyweight series return this spring, which will have a big impact on the 2023 Emmy craft races, particularly with the final seasons of “Succession,” “Barry,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Star Trek: Picard,” and possibly “Ted Lasso.” Plus, “The Mandalorian” is back and should continue its craft domination, while there are opportunities for improvement for new seasons of “Yellowjackets,” “The Great,” “Schmigadoon!,” and “Perry Mason.”
Before looking ahead at potential opportunities, it’s worth noting past Emmy performances.
“The Mandalorian” has set a new standard of excellence as the “Star Wars” crown jewel of Disney+. Powered by Ilm’s revolutionary StageCraft virtual production Volume platform, the sci-fi bounty hunter series starring Pedro Pascal, has amassed 14 craft wins in two seasons for cinematography, VFX, score, sound mixing, stunt coordination, production design, prosthetic makeup, and stunt performance.

Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
After the misfire that was The Amityville Haunting, I was worried that the so-called unofficial sequels in “the franchise” would all be absolute dreck. Obviously we’re grading on a scale when it comes to low budget Dtv films, but there’s still plenty of room for ingenuity and surprises regardless of funding.
Thankfully The Amityville Asylum, a 2013 UK production, represents something of a rebound. Writer/director Andrew Jones had abandoned found footage in favour of a more traditional approach to tell the story of Lisa Templeton (Sophia Del Pizzo), a young woman who interviews for a job as a night cleaner at the relatively new psychiatric institute, High Hopes.
Obviously since this is an Amityville film, there’s a tangential connection...

Season 3 of Disney+’s “The Mandalorian” is a turning point in many ways, with a reunited Din Djarin/Mando (Pedro Pascal) and Grugu (Baby Yoda) potentially taking on greater responsibility to protect the scattered and divided Mandalorians. According to the series creator Jon Favreau, these higher stakes called for a larger visual scale, pushing production further beyond the limits of Ilm’s innovative virtual production tool: the StageCraft Volume.
More than anyone in Hollywood, Favreau was responsible for the earlier-than-expected adoption of on-set virtual production when he made the bold choice to use StageCraft, or The Volume, as the principal mode of production for Season 1. While the Volume has dramatically improved and expanded its capabilities since Season 1, Favreau acknowledged the need to be more strategic about when and how to use it.

Exclusive: Emmy winner and Tony nominee Colman Domingo, whose new Netflix series The Madness was given the go-ahead yesterday, has plenty of room on his plate for Fat Ham.
Domingo has signed on as co-producer of the upcoming Broadway production of James Ijames’ Pultizer Prize winning play Fat Ham.
Beginning performances on Tuesday, March 21 the American Airlines Theatre Fat Ham has an official opening night of Wednesday, April 12 for a strictly limited 14-week engagement through Sunday, August 6.
The play, which has been described as a “comic tragedy,” reinvents Shakespeare’s Hamlet by setting it at a backyard cookout where Juicy, a queer, Black Southern college kid grappling with questions of identity, is met by the ghost of his father who shows up demanding that Juicy avenge his murder, even as Juicy is trying to break the cycles of trauma and violence in service of his own liberation.

At first he enjoys himself, embracing the quieter pace of life and starting a relationship with his beautiful neighbour, Cassie Konrad, but strange, unexplained occurrences begin to occur in the manor house.
John discovers he is surrounded by a supernatural presence and begins to research the house's past, discovering secrets more terrible than he ever imagined. It is now up to John to right the injustices of the past and finally lay to rest the spirits which haunt the Last House on Cemetery Lane.

As Bruce Campbell proved to us all last week when he debunked the previous week’s announcement that Army of Darkness 2 was on its way, news of impending horror sequels should probably always be taken with a grain of salt. Countless sequels have been announced over the years, only to drop off the face of the earth shortly thereafter. It’s just the nature of the game, in a fickle business like the movie-making one.
Back in August we took a look at ten of those sequels that we’re still waiting to see, and today I’ve got ten more for ya. They were all planned, they were all announced, but none of them ever actually happened!
28 Months Later
A few months before the 2007 DVD release of 28 Days Later’s sequel 28 Weeks Later, the now defunct company Fox Atomic teased a third film, implying that the future of the...

Welsh filmmakers Andrew Jones and James Plumb re-team once more following Night of the Living Dead: Resurrection, for yet another film that shares it moniker with a previous film – this time the 1972 film starring John Carradine and Mary Woronov, Silent Night Bloody Night. And as they did with their previous horror flick Jones and Plumb take the basic premise of the ’72 movie and craft a new film around it. So as with Notld: Resurrection, Silent Night, Bloody Night: The Homecoming is essentially a remake of the original film – taking in a number of the same characters, the same abandoned “mansion” and yet another escaped psycho from the local looney bin, yet giving it a British Welsh spin and adding a few new scenes and characters into the mix…...

In 2012,the deceased have risen from their graves with only one instinct-to feed on the living. Academics speculate on the scientific cause of the phenomena and theologians point to the Armageddon foretold in the Book of Revelation. But as the cities are over run and civilization crumbles, four generations of one family take refuge from the undead army in an isolated farmhouse in West Wales.
Based on the 1968 zombie classic, Night of the Living Dead: Resurrection is not a direct remake of George Romero’s original, instead it takes inspiration from the original movie, often playing with the audiences expectations and subverting the events that you would expect, given the trend of “remakes”, to take place.

The first thought that came to mind upon arriving to director Buddy Giovinazzo’s then-shooting supernatural horror flick Ginger on Sunday, December 18 of 2011 was, “This looks like some place Charles Manson would have frequented back in the Sixties.” As I was to find, I was correct in that assumption, and as it turned out, Giovinazzo himself, too, was working hard to add yet another creepy chapter to the location’s storied past alongside Ginger stars Marc Senter and Elissa Dowling.

The zombie hordes are once again shambling across the U.K. Where, oh, where, is Shaun (of the Dead) when we need him most?
Yet another tribute to George A. Romero's public domain cult classic, Night of the Living Dead, is currently in production in the U.K. Titled Night of the Living Dead: Resurrection, the movie is described by co-writer and producer Andrew Jones as a "companion piece to the original film" — not an attempt to "improve on it" — that uses "practical FX rather than CGI," in true low-budget fashion. Though typically it's the Eighties slasher classic Silent Night, Bloody Night that gets all of the yuletide attention, back in the Seventies an obscure little film called Silent Night, Bloody Night was offering its own brand of holiday fear.
