EW has shared two new official promo stills for Alien: Romulus as part of their summer preview, and one of 'em pays homage to a scene from Aliens.
In James Cameron's follow-up to Ridley Scott's '70s classic, Corporal Hicks (Michael Biehn) shows Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) how to use a pulse rifle before the crew land in some real pretty sh*t with the attacking Xenomorphs, and the moment is recreated here with Archie Renaux's Tyler and Cailee Spaeny's Rain Carradine.
The second image gives us another look at a Xenomorph about to give an unfortunate crew member a very bad day.
While the previous movies focused on blue-collar colleagues, soldiers, and prisoners, director Fede Alvarez explains how Romulus will take a different approach by introducing a group of characters who have become as close as family.
“My first instinct, just to try something different that hasn't been seen before,...

A new image from Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus has been released (via USA Today), and it gives us another look at one of the movie's Xenomorphs as it bares its terrifying metallic teeth
A few subtle changes aside, the titular creature has pretty much remained the same since it first debuted in Ridley Scott's original classic, and it doesn't look like Romulus is going to alter the design to any great extent.
Check out the new image below, along with a recent video clip of one of the movie's practical Facehuggers.

Talk about effective trailers. The one-minute teaser for Alien: Romulus captures the terror of being trapped with a creature while not giving away any spoilers.
The teaser arrived along with a poster and new stills from the much-anticipated, long-awaited eighth entry in the Alien franchise. Alien: Romulus is set between 1979’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens, and in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter director Fede Álvarez (Evil Dead) confirmed how it fits into the Alien universe.
“I love all of those movies. I didn’t want to omit or ignore any of them when it comes to connections at a story level, character level, technology level and creature level. There’s always connections from Alien to Alien: Covenant,” said Álvarez says.
The sci-fi film stars Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), David Jonsson (Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Isabela Merced (The Last of Us), Spike Fearn (Aftersun), and Aileen Wu.

Cailee Spaeny has played American royalty in “Priscilla,” a futuristic photojournalist in Alex Garland’s upcoming “Civil War,” and now is leading the reboot of the iconic “Alien” franchise.
Spaeny is front and center in the teaser trailer for 20th Century Studios’ “Alien: Romulus,” set 20 years after the events of the 1979 original film that launched Sigourney Weaver’s action stardom. Spaeny plays scientist Rain Carradine, one of the young space colonizers that come face to face with the titular murderous alien while scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station.
“Madame Web” star Isabela Merced is in the cast, as are David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.
“Romulus” is the seventh film in the “Alien” franchise — the ninth if you include the “Alien vs. Predator” crossover sci-fi action movies. “Alien” director Ridley Scott produces the film from writer/director Fede Alvarez, who co-wrote the script with Rodo Sayagues.

Ridley Scott is in talks to direct the Bee Gees biopic in the works at Paramount Pictures, with Barry Gibb set to executive produce and Gladiator’s screenwriter, John Logan, set to provide the script.
The news was shared by Deadline in a report explaining that Paramount is hoping to follow up Bob Marely: One Love with the still-untitled Bee Gees biopic they’ve been developing since they acquired the Gibb family estate and the rights to the band’s hit songs in 2019. Bohemian Rhapsody producer Graham King was an early sign-on to the project, and for a period of time Kenneth Branagh was slated to direct.

Scott will produce the currently-untitled film alongside Graham King for Gk Films, Stacey Snider, and Michael Pruss for Scott Free. John Logan, who wrote Scott’s 2000 epic “Gladiator,” will pen the script.
Paramount Pictures is distributing the film worldwide with Amblin and Sister having the right to co-finance. Barry Gibb, the last surviving brother, will executive produce. Siblings Maurice and Robin died in 2003 and 2012, respectively.
It’s been a long road to tell the Bee Gees’ story on the big screen – Kenneth Branagh was previously tapped to direct a biopic film for Paramount in 2021. John Carney stepped in as director in March 2022, but departed due to scheduling conflicts. He was replaced by “Hustlers” director Lorene Scafaria in December 2022.
The story of the Gibb brothers’ legendary trio was most recently depicted in 2020 documentary series “The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart.

Deadline reports that Ridley Scott is in negotiations to direct a movie about the Bee Gees, the iconic musical group formed by brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb.
Ridley Scott recently wrapped production on the Gladiator sequel, and in true Ridley Scott fashion, he’s already looking for another project. I wish I had half his energy. Should Scott close the deal to helm the Bee Gees movie for Paramount Pictures, he would also produce through his Scott Free banner along with Michael Pruss. John Logan (Alien: Covenant) has penned the script for the project.

Ridley Scott has found the composer for his upcoming “Gladiator” sequel.
Harry Gregson-Williams has been hired to score the hotly-anticipated Paramount feature, which is due out Nov. 22, more than 24 years after the Oscar-winning original.
The film marks the seventh collaboration between Scott and Gregson-Williams, with the composer having penned the scores for “The Martian,” “Kingdom of Heaven,” “The Last Duel” and “House of Gucci”, as well as composing themes for “Prometheus” and “Exodus: Gods and Kings.” Other credits for Gregson-Williams include “Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget,” “The Meg,” “Mulan,” “The Gilded Age,” “The Equalizer,” “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason,” “The Chronicles of Narnia” and all four “Shrek” films.
In something of nice twist, Gregson-Williams also spent many years early in his career as a protégé of Hans Zimmer, who was the composer on the first “Gladiator” (and landed an Oscar nomination for his work).

Napoleon Bonaparte is known for being many things: Warrior, General, Tyrant, Genius, Rebel. Take your pick! For Ridley Scott’s new film, Napoleon, Joaquin Phoenix brings many shades of Bonaparte’s reputation to light, highlighting the complex historical figure’s faults and strategic erudition. Today, Columbia Pictures debuted a new clip from Napoleon featuring the Battle of Austerlitz, aka the Battle of Three Emperors.
The footage finds Phoenix’s Napoleon taking the high ground, looking down on his enemies with disdain and menacing intent. As both sides of the conflict converge, Napoleon waits for his adversaries to make a grave mistake. Once carefully chosen battlefield positions reveal themselves, Napoleon’s enemies discover they’re traversing a frozen body of water. Before they can retreat to safety, Napoleon unleashes hell in the form of cannon balls pointed directly at the frigid lakebed. As the artillery pierces the ice, soldiers fall to their deaths,...

As my friend Bob George used to say, “You’re getting close.” He’d say it about my personal life and he’d say it on set. He always knew what the missing pieces were and wasn’t afraid to tell me.
I met Bob, who died last week at 51 in a tragic bike accident in Silver Lake, through a friend. It was immediately apparent that we were exact opposites. I felt instantly balanced, just being in the room with him. He was an effortless, kind and gentle soul. An affable, hilarious guy who loved to laugh. I called him the very next day to go for drinks, and it was clear to us both that we liked each other to the point that we wanted to keep each other forever.
He was still a production accountant in 2013 when he expressed an interest in producing, and I thought to myself...

Here’s your first look at the brand new trailer for Ridley Scott’s Napoleon starring Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby.
For Scott, reuniting with Phoenix for the first time since Gladiator was an immense pleasure. “He’s the only actor where we talk for weeks beforehand, just chatting and arguing in an office over aspects of the character. At the end, we are on the same page,” says Scott. “He’s good for me, because he keeps me honest, and I’m good for him, because I keep him in line. A new trailer for Ridley Scott’s upcoming historical epic “Napoleon” has arrived, and this one seems to telegraph the “Gladiator” and “Blade Runner” filmmaker’s modern approach to the story of the French leader.
A variation of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” plays throughout the trailer, which introduces Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix’s take on Napoleon Bonaparte sans French accent. Scott made the decision to have all of his actors use their real accents (Vanessa Kirby uses her English accent while playing Bonparte’s wife Josephine), so Phoenix’s take on Bonaparte is decidedly American.
Written by David Scarpa, “Napoleon” is Scott’s return to the historical epic genre, familiar territory for him. Aside from Best Picture winner “Gladiator,” Scott also steered 1992’s “1492” and his 2005 film about the crusades, “Kingdom of Heaven,” only gained esteem when his superior director’s cut was released on home video.

Napoleon director-producer Ridley Scott was on stage at Deadline’s Contenders London event to discuss the journey behind his latest epic and why he chose Joaquin Phoenix to portray the iconic Emperor.
Speaking about casting Oscar winner Phoenix, who he had previously worked with on Gladiator [in which Phoenix played another Emperor], filmmaking legend Scott told the audience that he had always viewed Phoenix’s character in that movie as “the most sympathetic character in Gladiator, being the product of such a neglectful father.”
He continued: “I was blown away by his outrageous film Joker. I didn’t like the way it celebrated violence but Joaquin was remarkable. I thought he’d be an amazing asset to Napoleon, [not only creatively] also in a commercial sense. There were only two actors I had in mind for the role. I won’t mention the other one.”

The apparently ageless Ridley Scott is back with another historical epic. On Monday, Apple and Sony debuted the first trailer for Scott’s “Napoleon,” the 85-year-old filmmaker’s latest widescreen blockbuster.
The film reunites Scott with his “Gladiator” star Joaquin Phoenix for the first time since that Oscar-winning hit. “Joaquin is about as far from conventional as you can get. Not deliberately, but out of intuition,” Scott previously told Empire about his star. “That’s what makes him tick. If something bothers him, he’ll let you know.”
In that same interview, Scott said Phoenix basically rewrote the script to better align it with his take on the character. “We unpicked the film to help him focus on who Bonaparte was. I had to respect that, because what was being said was incredibly constructive. It made it all grow bigger and better,” Scott said.

Napoleon showcases the conqueror on his conquest for Europe and the opposition he faces, not just from external figures but from internal ones as well. Scott is no stranger to grand-scale period pieces, having directed such films as Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, Exodus: Gods and Kings and The Last Duel. He brings his signature gritty tone to the story of one of the world’s strongest military minds.
The official synopsis from Apple reads,
Napoleon is an original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine. The film captures Napoleon’s famous battles, relentless ambition, and astounding strategic mind as an extraordinary military leader and war visionary.

Pedro Pascal has joined Ridley Scott’s upcoming “Gladiator” sequel, TheWrap has confirmed.
The previously announced cast already includes recent Oscar nominee Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Barry Keoghan and Connie Nielsen, who returns from the first movie. “Stranger Things” breakout Joseph Quinn is also in negotiations.
Not much is known about the sequel to Scott’s 2000 Oscar-winning blockbuster, although it’s thought to follow Maximus’ son (played by Mescal). The original film, of course, followed Maximus (Russell Crowe), a man whose family was taken from him and who went from slave to gladiator to revolutionary. What a movie.
