The list of people that bug Larry David could fill a phone book, but one target of his general disdain for humanity isn’t one we would have expected: Elmo – and he’s not even human! The same week that Elmo began trending for doing a wellness check on his followers, Larry David did what so many wanted to do when Tickle Me Elmo came out. Yes, Larry David assaulted Elmo…and he’d do it again if he had the chance.
When asked about the incident not too long ago on Today – in which Larry David grabbed Elmo’s face and swatted at his father, Louie – David told Seth Meyers, “Elmo was talking. I was waiting to be interviewed, and Elmo was going on about mental health and I had to listen to every word. And I was going, ‘Oh my God, oh my God, I don’t think...

Here’s some news that might even cheer up Oscar the Grouch: The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has created two new Emmy categories for puppetry performance and puppet design/styling. Both awards will be handed out at this year’s second-ever Children’s & Family Emmys.
“Historically, puppetry performers would enter in the live action performer categories,” said NATAS CEO Adam Sharp, in announcing the new competition. “So, if you were the handler of a puppet, then you would go up against a lead actor or lead actress, and that created for some odd pairings. But managing a puppet is a very different kind of performance than a regular live action performance.”
Back when children’s programming was awarded at the Daytime Emmys, it was usually in the “outstanding principal performance in a children’s program” category (which went through several name changes over the years). In 2021, for example,...

As a father himself, John Legend wants to make sure all children can communicate with their parents during the holidays.
The musician thinks this parent-and-child communication should include everyone — including those whose parents are currently incarcerated. Legend’s campaign Freeamerica, which has been working to transform America’s criminal justice system since 2015, partnered with Sesame Street to help kids “communicate with their parents who are away,” Legend, 38, tells People.
“We incarcerate so many people, and a lot of times we forget about their kids that are left behind and how it feels for them to be without parents,” says Legend.

Chance the Rapper just pulled a John Legend in the best possible way!
The Coloring Book rapper -- and future mayor of Chicago -- took to Twitter on Monday to share a sweet moment from his guest appearance on Sesame Street, where he gave a sweet shout-out to his 3-year-old daughter, Kensli, with a little help from Elmo, Cookie Monster and more of the neighborhood Muppets.
"Just got done at work, see ya soon baby," the 24-year-old artist captioned the video, where the gang jubilantly goes, "Hi, Kensli!"
"I will give you a big hug when I get home baby, I can't wait to see you," Chance tells his daughter. Cookie Monster then asks, "And will you give her a cookie from me?"
Hopefully, Chance tweets his daughter's reaction to the shout-out, because that would be so adorable to see!

The Last Jedi star Daisy Ridley squared off against Jimmy Fallon in a Star Wars-themed "Whisper Challenge" on Tuesday's Tonight Show. The actor and host took turns donning a pair of headphones (shaped like Princess Leia hair buns) and clumsily attempting to read each other's lips as they recited classic phrases from blockbuster franchise.

A lot of us grew up watching Sesame Street, which helped us learn to read, write, count and offer us life lessons about doing the right thing. Like many of you, I've always loved and enjoyed these classic muppet characters.
Vanity Fair rounded up many of these characters that include Elmo, Cookie Monster, Oscar the Grouch, Big Bird, Count von Count, and more, and shot a video of them reading famous movie lines from the last century of cinema.
Some of the films represented in the video include Back to the Future, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Cool Hand Luke, Frankenstein, Citizen Kane, Moonstruck, Sudden Impact, Poltergeist, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Rocky, and Star Wars: A New Hope.
It's a lot of fun so I hope you enjoy it!

We talk to Frank Oz and the other original Muppeteers about creating characters, watching them evolve, and giving them sentience.
After a few moving documentaries about individual puppeteers, this year’s SXSW debuted a new documentary directed by Frank Oz called Muppet Guys Talking: Secrets of the Show the Whole World Watched. The film is an hour-long free form discussion with Jerry Nelson (The Count, Mr. Snuffleupagus), Dave Goelz (Gonzo, Bunsen Honeydew), Fran Brill (Zoe, Prairie Dawn), and Bill Barretta (Pepe, Tree-Face-Guy) loosely moderated by Oz. Because it features so many of the key personalities that have been only briefly touched upon in spotlight docs on Big Bird or Elmo, it’s a must-watch for any Muppet Show obsessive who wants to hear about what it’s like being buried in a room under a fire pit so they could perform a song with John Denver.

Sesame Street is one of the most popular children’s shows on television and has been for decades. Give its popularity you can only imagine how many Google and other searches per day the show actually gets. According to SEMRush the term “Sesame Street” gets around 301,000 monthly searches which equates to 10,000 a day. That doesn’t include other terms like “Big Bird,” “Bert and Ernie,” “Elmo” and thousands of other terms. We’re probably talking close to a million searches a day if you add them all up. My World Of Flops is Nathan Rabin’s survey of books, television shows, musical releases, or other forms of entertainment that were financial flops, critical failures, or lack a substantial cult following.
Like seemingly all Americans over the past half-century or so, I grew up with the puppet oddballs of Jim Henson and company. Kermit The Frog, Fozzie Bear, Big Bird, Cookie Monster: These were my beloved childhood companions. Yet I didn’t truly understand the magic of the worlds Henson created until I became a parent myself.
In the past year or so, I have developed a fondness for Sesame Street that borders on obsessive. I may actually enjoy Sesame Street more than my 2-and-a-half-year-old son does at this point. I am particularly enamored of the furry red menace known as Elmo. So I was shocked to discover, deep into my Sesame Street addiction, that he’d actually...

This past weekend was the arguably biggest event on the geek calendar, San Diego Comic Con. It is an explosion of headlines, news clips, and video spots that most geeks salivate over. However, I was not one of them. That’s right, I spent the biggest geek weekend of the year creating Sesame Street characters out of fruit. It was awesome.
My niece, Baby Destructo (as I call her), turned three last week and wanted a Sesame Street birthday party. Elmo is kiddie crack, I swear. As she is my very favorite person to spend time with, my family and I spent the weekend trying to make it the best day of her year.

Everyone knows Elmo just loves to sing the ABC's. Now with the help of Gina Rodriguez, he can belt them out in Spanish!
In a just-released clip from HBO, the 31-year-old Jane the Virgin star makes her Sesame Street debut and teaches the famous red-head a thing or two about Spanish.
In the video, Elmo admits that he doesn't know the alphabet in Spanish, so what better way for Rodriguez to teach the muppet than by breaking out in full song and dance.
Rodriguez as the latest celebrity to visit Sesame Street, just two months after Nick Jonas took his vocals to the hit show.

Pharrell Williams recently dropped by Sesame Street to teach Elmo and Cookie Monster about the transitive powers of reading.
"You can go anywhere without leaving the chair by reading a book / You can be anything, a pirate, a king / Just grab a book," Williams sings on the uptempo "B Is for Book." "Pull a sword from a stone and wind up on a throne / Have tea with the Hatter, if he's mad it don't matter / Because he's inside a book." Williams then takes the two monsters on an animated trip to ancient Egypt.

When most people think of the best puppetry filmmaking has to offer, they usually think of the whimsy and heart of “The Muppets” or “Sesame Street.” The Jim Henson Company’s work is revered worldwide, and the feeling Kermit or Elmo can give to an audience as they perform a tune or dance a number is nothing short of magical.
Becky Sloan and Joseph Pelling are aware of this feeling. Their web series, “Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared,” which just released its sixth episode, subverts the Henson musical experience. Under the guise of that cheerful tone, they tell stories with puppets who discover the world and become uncomfortable, disturbed, and, well, scared.

"There is no safe level of lead," John Oliver warned on Sunday's Last Week Tonight. "It's one of those things so dangerous you shouldn't even let a little bit inside you, much like heroin or Jeremy Piven." Remember a few months ago, when we finally realized how full of lead Flint, Michigan's water was, and everyone was angry and sad? John Oliver does, and wants you to know that our work is far from done here. The multitude of problems that have and will continue to arise from Flint's lead poisoning disaster are bad enough, but Last Week Tonight went a little deeper for its main segment to tell us how the entire country is full of lead pipes that are too expensive to simply remove and replace. But those aren't the biggest problem: it's the lead-paint-encrusted homes that pose a greater threat to our children, and three Republican congressmen who were so concerned about the Flint lead poisoning actually voted for a bill that would reduce funding for lead paint abatement in lower income homes. So, Oliver went to Sesame Street and enlisted Elmo, Rosita, and...
