Claire Foy and Richard E. Grant are set to lead a new period drama directed by Peter Glanz.
Titled “Savage House,” the eighteenth century black comedy also stars Bel Powley (“A Small Light”) and Jack Farthing (“The Lost Daughter”).
Kila Lord Cassidy (“The Wonder”), Richard McCabe (“Napoleon”), Vicki Pepperdine (“Poor Things”) and Pip Torrens (“The Iron Lady”) round out the cast. The film recently wrapped in the U.K.
“Set against the backdrop of eighteenth century England, a massive pox outbreak, and Jacobite uprising – this is a timely and darkly satirical story of Sir Chauncey Savage (Grant) and Lady Savage (Foy) and their blind pursuit of a better life,” reads the logline. “It is not without a tinge of irony that their family name is the Savages, for this is a Savage House indeed. Filled with duels, decadence, and bloodshed, this is a madcap play on class and power.”

Exclusive: Oscar-shortlisted Panamanian filmmaker Abner Benaim (Plaza Catedral) is gearing up to direct a feature adaptation of Nemesis, the final bestseller by Philip Roth to be published prior to the famed author’s 2018 passing.
Dealing with such timely themes as an epidemic and antisemitism, Nemesis was described in The New Yorker as having “the elegance of a fable and the tragic inevitability of a Greek drama.” The novel published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in October of 2010 is set in the summer of 1944, examining the impact of a polio epidemic on a Newark, NJ community and its children.
Peter Glanz (The Longest Week) adapted the screenplay. Pablo Larraín, Juan de Dios Larraín and Andrew Hevia will produce for Fabula — the production company behind Foreign Language Oscar winner A Fantastic Woman, the Kristen Stewart starrer Spencer, and the upcoming drama Maria starring Angelina Jolie. Fernando Loureiro produces for Tigresa.

Kevin Harrison Jr. (“Cyrano”) is set to star as the late American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat in the new biopic “Samo Lives.” The announcement was made on the film’s website.
Julius Onah is set to write, direct and produce the biopic. Onah reunites with Harrison who previously collaborated on Independent Spirit Award-nominated film “Luce.” Onah co-wrote the script with Peter Glanz.
“Samo Lives” was developed by Endeavor Content and the biopic will tell and celebrate the incredible origins and global legacy of the New York-born, Haitian-Puerto Rican American artist, whose seminal paintings and street art defined the Neo-expressionism arts movement in the 1980s.
“Jean-Michel Basquiat redefined the idea of who ascends to the highest altitudes of the fine art world. But the complexity and richness of his experience as an artist and child of the African Diaspora has yet to be dramatized in the manner it deserves,“ Onah said in a statement.

Jeff Goldblum has joined Michael Sheen and Michelle Monaghan in an upcoming new dramady thriller called Price of Admission.
The story centers on "a middling playwright (Sheen) amidst a mid-life crisis and failing marriage. His wife (Monaghan) is tired of being second fiddle to his work — she wants a family. But incapable of functioning in reality, he submerges himself in an elaborate play about his life. The only person who understands his plight is his best friend, Alexander Taft (Goldblum), a behavioral psychologist with a mid-life crisis of his own."
The movie has a solid cast and it sounds like an interesting story, but in the end, I'll watch anything with Jeff Goldblum in it! He'll next be seen in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Jeff Goldblum is joining Michael Sheen and Michelle Monaghan in writer-director Peter Glanz’s comedy-drama “The Price of Admission.”
Producers are Neda Armian of Armian Pictures, Alex Foster, and Glanz. Radiant Films International president and CEO Mimi Steinbauer made the announcement on Tuesday.
“The Price of Admission” is in the tradition of “Being John Malkovich” and “Birdman” — a story that’s part dramedy, part existential thriller. Sheen will portray a middling playwright undergoing a midlife crisis whose wife (Monaghan) grows weary of playing second fiddle to his work. But he’s incapable of functioning in reality and submerges himself in an elaborate play about his life. The only person who understands him is his best friend, portrayed by Goldblum, a behavioral psychologist undergoing a midlife crisis of his own.
Radiant Films International is handling foreign rights to the movie, which was presented to buyers at last year’s Cannes Film Market.

According to Variety, Michael Sheen and Michelle Monaghan are set to star in The Price Of Admission, a film described as “a unique story that’s part dramedy and part existential thriller” and is said to be “in the tradition of Being John Malkovich and Birdman.” Sheen will be a “middling playwright” suffering from a midlife crisis, and Monaghan will play his frustrated wife who is tired of being ignored. It’s unclear where the weirdo Birdman or Being John Malkovich-style magical realism twist will come in, but there pretty much has to be one if those are the two movies The Price Of Admission is being compared to.

Monaghan, meanwhile, plays his wife Eliza, who wants nothing more than to settle down and start a family, leading Harold to spiral into his own fabricated comfort zone of fictitious plays and fantastical stories.

The Longest Week Review
As is often the case with new directors, Peter Glanz’ The Longest Week is built from one of his earlier short films, A Relationship in Four Days. It’s a film that is going to divide critics, many of whom will dislike it for all the things that make it great, and is a tricky sell to most audiences. There’s a fine line between a derivative work (or one that is just patently stolen) and an honorific, and watching The Longest Week reminded me of nothing so much as Down with Love. While Down with Love was more directly putting forward the films it nodded to, and was more focused in its subject, it had a difficult time winning fans, and I suspect for similar reasons, even one has far easier entry points than the other.

Looking at Jason Bateman‘s filmography over the past five years, there’s a mix of comedies, ranging in quality and style, but he plays an everyman in just about all of them. It seems as if he hit his stride with Arrested Development, and he’s been cast as the non-threatening, generally handsome but relatable, nice guy about to boil over ever since. It’s a role in which Bateman definitely excels, often bringing subtleties to each similar-feeling character. That isn’t the case in The Longest Week. Bateman stars in Peter Glanz‘s film as Conrad Valmont, an adult child whose affluent, loveless upbringing has turned him into a self-obsessed, womanizing pseudo-intellectual. When he’s kicked out of his family’s Manhattan Hotel, he’s forced to stay with his only friend, Dylan (Billy Crudup), who’s similarly full of himself but more addicted to monogamy. The two have competed through the entirety of their...

Arrested Development: Glanz’s Debut an Affluent Vacuum
For the most part, it’s an ingenious trick to fabricate an aura of empathy around a pool of pretentious piranhas endlessly floundering about in the upper echelons of privilege and oblivion. To extend an invitation to witness purported romance amongst elitists garnished with nothing more than an immeasurable trust fund and the preened hue of an Ivy League education would seem nearly impossible to enjoy, and, thus, Peter Glanz’s directorial debut, The Longest Weekend is a generous case in point.
Despite a nicely chosen cast and a handful of flourishes borrowed from the works of cinematic masters, there’s little carbonation to this stale elixir that too often depends on cliché. Overreaching and stifled by its own unnegotiable parameters, this is a highly artificial portrait of all that it attempts to convey.

The Longest Week, from writer-director Peter Glanz, is a romantic dramedy that echoes its main characters: beautiful on the outside, bereft of purpose inside. Stylistically, Glanz channels Wes Anderson, from his symmetrical framing to his reliance on voice-over narration. The references are so excessive that the film hints at satire but ultimately fails to rise above mimicry.

Just recently we got our first look at Jason Bateman reuniting with Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis in Horrible Bosses 2, but before that film arrives in the fall, the "Arrested Development" star will be chasing after Olivia Wilde, much to the chagrin of his best friend Billy Crudup, in The Longest Week. As Conrad Valmont (Bateman) is cut off from his family's fortune, he is forced to move in with his old friend Dylan (Crudup), only to use his charm's in an attempt to steal his girlfriend (Wilde). It looks pretty bland, and the story feels more than a little weak, trying to make an interesting story out of rich white people problems, but maybe the cast can make this a little more appealing than it seems in the trailer? Jason Bateman has been making some pretty interesting moves out of the comic relief periphery of comedies and into his own as a leading man as of late, and he has a pretty stellar 2014 on the way. There's the sequel to "Horrible Bosses" in November and heading up the Peter Glanz dramedy "The Longest Week" as well. Then there's Shawn Levy's "This is Where I Leave You," which debuted a new trailer today. The film, written by Jonathan Tropper and based on his novel, tells the story of four siblings who come back home to bury their father and, naturally, revisit their childhood and all the life lessons they've learned since leaving home. It's a pretty standard tale, but here it could really sing as the cast Levy has assembled is fantastic. Bateman, Adam Driver, Tina Fey and Corey Stoll play the siblings, with Jane Fonda as their over-sharing mother.

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Casey Affleck is now attached to star in the Warner Bros. film Race To The South Pole, which is being produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck through their production company, Pearl Street.
The film tells the true story of two explorers in the early 20th century racing to be the first man to reach the last unseen territory on the planet, the South Pole. Affleck stars as Englishman Robert Falcon Scott who is ultimately bested by Norwegian Roald Amundsen (Amundsen has yet to be cast.)
The film’s writer is the relatively-unknown Peter Glanz, who is coming off his directorial debut, The Longest Week. Damon and the elder Affleck’s team-ups have usually proven successful, and Casey Affleck is known for being very selective about his scripts, so for those three to be on board with Glanz script, you can be sure it’s something special.
