“Something that we were all really drawn to is the ornamentation of the Victorian era,” explains “Manhunt” production designer Chloe Arbiture about taking a bolder approach to designing over 200 sets for what a well-known period in history: the aftermath of the assassination of the 16th U.S. President. “We wanted modern audiences to relate to it and to feel like there was a stake in it,” she explains about her team’s focus on ornamentation, decoration and detail. “When we look through; I mean even I’m guilty of it, but when I look through black and white photographs, I don’t really feel like this big human connection to things. But we all talked about how what makes the story human is color, is richness, is detail, and that’s something that really drove us through the entire creative process from the beginning to the end.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

One of the most talked about looks at the 2024 Met Gala was Kim Kardashian‘s custom Maison Margiela gown by John Galliano. While the dress was stunning, fans weren’t sure why Kardashian was trying to cover it with a sweater. Social media lit up with speculation about why the reality star held a cropped gray cardigan over the top part of her metallic dress. Some theorized that the dress may have ripped just before she stepped on the carpet, so she had no choice but to borrow someone’s sweater to cover it during her big arrival.
Her disappearing waistline was also a hot topic on X (formally Twitter) with several users concerned about her health. But the Kkw Beauty founder explained in a video as she got ready for the event that the corset was part of her whole look and called breathing “an art form.”

After taking a break from his royal duties while he underwent treatment for cancer, King Charles returned to his public duties. The monarch’s first engagement was to the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre in London on April 30 with his wife, Queen Camilla (formerly known as Camilla Parker Bowles).
The king’s next appearance was at the Royal Windsor Horse Show, where he received a warm welcome from one of his closest family members. Now, a body language expert is breaking down the king’s relationship with that royal and how she brings out a wonderful side of the monarch.

King Charles III recently returned to his public duties following a break from work while he received treatment for cancer. The monarch’s first engagement was on April 30, with his wife, Queen Camilla (formerly known as Camilla Parker Bowles), by his side. They visited a hospital and cancer treatment center, where the king showed support for those going through something similar to what he has gone through.
While some royal watchers observed the king looking upbeat as he waved to crowds gathered outside the medical center, others wondered if he returned to work too early. Here’s what Queen Camilla had to say about that.

Ellen DeGeneres returned to the stage to kick off Ellen’s Last Stand…Up Tour with a set at the Los Angeles Largo Club at the Coronet. She discussed the opportunity to address the elephant in the room: her absence from the limelight. In an exclusive for Showbiz Cheat Sheet, body language expert Darren Stanton claims that Ellen has taken “no ownership” of her past apologies.
Ellen DeGeneres may not be authentic in her past apologies, says body language expert
During Ellen DeGeneres’s stand-up show, the comedienne joked about getting “kicked out of show business” for being mean. “The hate went on for a long time, and I would try to avoid looking at the news,” she recalled. “The ‘be kind’ girl wasn’t kind. That was the headline.”
However, body language expert Darren Stanton has a different take on DeGeneres’ commentary. He subsequently believes she may not be authentic in her past apologies.

After undergoing a procedure for an enlarged prostate earlier this year, it was revealed that tests done at that time determined King Charles had cancer. The monarch received treatment and took a break from his public royal duties. On April 26, the Palace announced that the king would return to work.
Queen Camilla (formerly known as Camilla Parker Bowles) had been keeping busy while Charles was out of commission, even attending multiple engagements a day. She was also thought to be the one running the family and keeping things together when the monarch could not. The king’s first official engagement was on April 30 with the queen as they visited a hospital and cancer treatment center where the royal couple lent support to the staff and patients there.
Now, a body language expert is sharing observations about King Charles’ return to his royal duties and if he and Camilla are on the same page.

Tobias Menzies has become one of our most reliably excellent actors of late. Classically trained, he had an extensive theatre career in his native England during the noughties and early 2010s before he rose to prominence with roles in “Game of Thrones” and “Outlander.”
Menzies’ profile then increased further thanks to his lauded portrayal of Prince Phillip in “The Crown” and his stock has again risen thanks to his role as another major historical figure in Apple TV’s “Manhunt.” The acclaimed limited series follows the death of President Abraham Lincoln (played by Hamish Linklater) and the subsequent 12-day manhunt for assassin John Wilkes Booth (Anthony Boyle).
Menzies stars as Edwin Stanton, the Secretary of State and personal friend of Lincoln who headed up the hunt for Booth. Menzies proves himself capable of carrying this compelling show entirely on his own. His complex, gruff portrayal of Stanton is what makes the series soar,...

Though most of its season played out like a crime thriller, “Manhunt” on Apple TV+ ended with a one-episode courtroom drama that brought the story of the Lincoln assassination to a close. As with any adaptation of real history, “Manhunt” couldn’t include everything about the hunt for John Wilkes Booth, especially since reality is often stranger than any scripted story. There’s a lot that the “Manhunt” finale got right, some that was made up, and an entire universe of material that didn’t make it to the screen, so let’s take a look at how the Lincoln conspiracy really ended.
We’ll begin with a few final questions about John Wilkes Booth, whose surprise death in the penultimate episode of “Manhunt” had its antagonist exiting stage left before the final scene:

Spoiler Alert: This article contains major spoilers for the finale of “Manhunt,” now streaming on Apple TV+.
The seven-episode historical miniseries “Manhunt” has come to a dramatic close. Secretary of War Edwin Stanton (Tobias Menzies) brought several of John Wilkes Booth’s conspirators to trial over Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, resulting in numerous hangings. Legally, he wasn’t able to thread the needle to prove a grand conspiracy, leaving him somewhat unsatisfied in his efforts to find justice for Lincoln. Yet Stanton has his next fight almost immediately after the verdict, as incoming President Andrew Johnson aims to have him removed from his position — leading the secretary of war to barricade himself in his office in protest.
Reflecting on the series — and especially the trial that takes up the majority of the final episode — Menzies speaks to how his animated facial expressions guide the audience through the highs and lows of prosecuting Lincoln’s assassins.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Manhunt series finale.] The Manhunt series finale depicts one of war secretary Edwin Stanton’s most famous acts. The politician barricaded himself in his office for three months in protest of President Andrew Johnson’s attempt to remove him from office. Johnson became the first American president to be impeached because of this move; just one vote saved him from complete removal. The impeachment took place while Stanton was still a shut-in that office. Barricading himself in the room was the final scene Tobias Menzies filmed for the Apple TV+ limited series, which debuted its finale on Friday, April 19. The Emmy winner tells TV Insider that it was a perfect way to wrap this political dogfight of a tale that tells “such a strange bit of history.” “Those moments, for me, really transport you back to a different time because it feels so analog,” Menzies shares. And it’s a...

Apple TV+’s historical drama Manhunt takes place after Lincoln’s assassination. The story revolves around Edwin Stanton, the US Secretary of War and one of the two main characters. During one of the most grueling periods in American history, Stanton took it upon himself to assist Lincoln in creating a nation that was free to all people. Whether the real Edwin Stanton truly was as righteous as shown in this Apple TV+ series would be up for debate, but Tobias Menzies’ portrayal of Stanton has won my heart. Through his own journey, this fictional Stanton makes the audience acknowledge the ideas and struggles of the Black folks that he stood for. For centuries, White folks had enslaved and oppressed people of color, but for men like Lincoln and Stanton to appropriately use their privilege to put an end to this cycle of violence and oppression was a display of valor and humility.

Mary Simms’ story is a testament to Black oppression. During the trying times when Black people were considered the property of White men, Mary Simms was one of the many forgotten names who stood up to the atrocities of White entitlement. Even though Apple TV+’s historical drama Manhunt follows the detailed narratives of Edwin Stanton and John Wilkes Booth, it also sheds light on other characters like Mary Simms. It was probably one of the most harrowing periods in American history that shaped the future of the country. It might even be one of the few wars that the country actually fought for righteous reasons (scoffs). If it weren’t for Lincoln, it would’ve taken another century for the US to abolish slavery and free the Black people. But again, in my very honest opinion, in the present day, the American Civil War might just have become a tool.

Manhunt by Apple TV+ finally reaches a bittersweet conclusion. In the previous episode, Stanton’s Union servicemen finally caught up to Booth and Herold, who were hiding in a barn near Richmond, Virginia. The Union Cavalry arrived at the scene, leading to Booth getting shot at the hands of Sergeant Corbett. In a manner similar to Lincoln, Booth too was shot in the back of his head. Stanton orders his men to have Booth’s body buried where nobody can find him and make him a martyr.
Now that the President’s assassin is executed, Stanton and his men proceed to arrange a case against the Confederates, through which he wishes to accuse Jefferson Davis of conspiracy against the President. Stanton and his men call it the ‘grand conspiracy’ but also feel that this plan is far-fetched. Regardless, with President Johnson’s approval, they made a case and gathered enough...

Meghan Markle didn’t have the easiest time when she first started dating Prince Harry back in 2016. Although the two did their best to keep the relationship a secret for as long as possible, Harry and Meghan eventually went public, leading the press to dig into Meghan’s past and pull up anything they could find. It set the stage for constant negative media attention and ultimately forced Harry and Meghan to leave the royal family.
Meghan has always been independent; she lived a whole life before meeting Harry in her mid-thirties. And one expert says she always had intentions of following in Princess Diana’s independent footsteps.

John Carter and Wall-e director Andrew Stanton is working on a fascinating new sci-fi film. If In The Blink Of An Eye sticks to the script, we could be in for something special.
His career stretching back to the late 1980s, Andrew Stanton is best known for his animated work at Pixar, whether it’s as writer (1995’s ground-breaking Toy Story) or writer-director.
As a live-action filmmaker, he’s probably almost as well known for 2012’s John Carter, a hugely expensive sci-fi adventure based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ A Princess Of Mars. One of those films that seemed to have vultures circling it before it was even released, John Carter was ultimately a box office misfire.
In the wake of it, Stanton kept himself busy with animated projects at Disney and Pixar, but has also found time to write or direct the odd TV episode, including instalments of Stranger Things,...

After stepping down from royal duties a few years back and moving to America, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have had quite a few moments they’d like to forget. The duke and duchess were mocked by late-night comedians and on TV shows like South Park and The Family Guy. The couple also gained a reputation for not putting in work and were dropped by Spotify before one of the company’s executives called them “f******* grifters.” The Sussexes then rounded out 2023 by landing on The Hollywood Reporter’s “Biggest Losers” list.
The prince and former Suits star vowed that 2024 would be their “redemption year.” They’ve since ramped up speaking engagements and appearances to discuss important causes and Meghan is launching her very own lifestyle brand. And that, according to an expert, is a clear sign that she feels ready to split from Prince Harry.

In the previous episode of Manhunt, Stanton had been researching the spy lines that the Confederacy Secret Services took. He believed that Booth and his accomplice, Herold, took this road for a safe passage to Richmond, Virginia. The essence of Netflix’s apocalyptic sci-fi series “3 Body Problem” is contained within the immersive VR game engineered by the San-Ti aliens. The Apple TV+ original Manhunt is back with yet another gripping episode about Edwin Stanton’s hunt for the man who killed his friend, President Abraham Lincoln. Edwin was Lincoln’s follower in his battle to make America the land of the free, and even after the President’s unfortunate death, he continued to adhere to Lincoln’s ideals. Even though the flame that Lincoln started died down with Andrew Johnson’s presidency, Stanton had to make sure that America didn’t become a country where you could own another human being or even get away with shooting the President of the country.
In the previous episode, we saw the enactment of Lincoln’s policy on letting Black men enlist as servicemen and gain the opportunity to vote. As the country opens up to the idea of seeing people of color as equals, the Confederate agenda still runs rampant. During one such racially driven act,...

Ever since King Charles has been out of commission while receiving his cancer treatment, Queen Camilla (formerly Camilla Parker Bowles) has stepped up her engagements and appeared solo in place of her husband when needed.
On March 28, the king’s wife attended the annual Royal Maundy Service in Worcester, England. Maundy Thursday is the Christian holy day falling every year on the Thursday before Easter. The reigning monarch commemorates Maundy by offering “alms” to senior citizens and each recipient receives two purses, one red and one white. Queen Camilla, stepping in for her husband who was unable to make it, distributed the money to 75 men and 75 women mirroring the age of the king and thanked them for their outstanding Christian service.
Now, a body language expert has looked at photos and footage of Camilla from the service and revealed how she did and if she “crumbled under the pressure” or...

One British royal family couple “never” puts on a “front,” according to a body language expert. It’s not Prince William and Kate Middleton. Nope, not King Charles III and Queen Camilla, either. Or Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. According to a body language expert, Zara and Mike Tindall are “authentic” and “happy” in each other’s company.
The Tindalls always look ‘happy’ in each other’s presence
Examining Mike and Zara’s demeanor at the 2024 Cheltenham Festival, body language expert Darren Stanton analyzed their behavior in public and what it suggests about their relationship.
“Mike is generally always smiling, especially when he’s with Zara,” Stanton said on behalf of Betfair Live Casino (via Express). “I’ve not seen a miserable picture of them together.”
Zara, who is the daughter of Princess Anne, shares three children with the former pro rugby player: Mia, Lena, and Lucas. The couple are...

In the previous episode of Manhunt, Edward Stanton, Lincoln’s Secretary of War and friend was determined to uncover the conspiracy which had his friend killed. The investigation eventually leads him to John Surratt Jr, a confederate spy. Surratt, along with his mother, and John Wilkes Booth had conspired to kill Lincoln. However, Stanton and his men suspect that Surratt and Booth’s action’s had been sponsored by an external actor. As he digs deeper into Surratt’s connections, Stanton finds evidence hidden at Surratt’s Maryland boarding house. Behind a concealed compartment, Stanton and his men discover a cache of telegrams and encrypted messages exchanged between Surratt and Confederate President Jefferson Davis, proving Stanton’s suspicions.
As Stanton races against time to close in on Surratt and unravel the conspiracy, the story introduces the character of Mary Simms, a slave at Dr. Mudd’s lodge. Mary is discouraged...

Members of the royal family have experienced some trying times over the last couple of months. In January, the Palace announced that the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) had abdominal surgery and needed a lengthy recovery. Then, on March 22, Kate shared that she had cancer. Weeks earlier, tests revealed that King Charles III had cancer and was receiving treatment as well.
With two working royals out of commission now, the family’s new slimmed-down monarchy has been put to the test as some senior members of the Firm are doing multiple engagements a day. However, one family member who isn’t the most recognizable attended an engagement that is very close to King Charles and Queen Camilla’s heart. That royal though showed “signs of nervousness” and seemed “unprepared” during the outing in London.

With King Charles forced to take a break from his public duties as he undergoes cancer treatment and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) out of commission while she recovers from abdominal surgery, several other working royals have had to take on more public engagements.
One of those royals who has filled her diary and been seen out attending many engagements in the king and Kate’s absence is Queen Camilla (formerly known as Camilla Parker Bowles). While he’s best known to daytime fans as General Hospital’s (Gh) Nikolas Cassadine, actor Adam Huss is entering another genre with his newest project, Peek-a-Boo, a chilling movie that is sure to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
General Hospital’s Spoilers – Adam Huss Starring In “Peek-a-Boo”
Directed by award-winning director and writer Candice Cain, Peek-a-Boo is a Gemelli Films “fright-fest” with Huss stepping into the starring role as the killer, Jacob Stanton.
Huss’s character is bent on vengeance and mayhem, so perhaps Adam drew a little bit from his Nikolas Cassadine character to play this role, but not overly much, as the two characters do seem worlds apart.
The movie centers around a luxury cabin in Lake Placid and promises fans a “terrifying” ride as Huss’s character is behind a number of unexplained events and has a goal to torture his victims.

“Sic semper tyrannis!” With these words John Wilkes Booth fled Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C. after shooting Abraham Lincoln in the head with a 44 caliber derringer on April 14, 1865, altering the course of history and prompting a 12-day manhunt that ended when Sgt. Boston Corbett shot Booth in a Virginia farmhouse (he died hours later). The assassination and the pursuit are now the subjects of Manhunt, a brisk new limited series on Apple TV+.

Spoiler Alert: This article discusses plot twists from the premiere episode of “Manhunt.”
The assassination of Abraham Lincoln was one of the biggest turning points in American history, and the new Apple TV+ series “Manhunt” examines the behind-the-scenes drama of a wartime government thrown into further chaos. Edwin Stanton (Tobias Menzies) leads the series as Lincoln’s close confidant and secretary of war, who goes on a mission to track down John Wilkes Booth (Anthony Boyle) after he shoots President Lincoln (Hamish Linklater). The seven-episode series is based on executive producer James L. Swanson’s nonfiction book “Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer,” and episodes will be released weekly after the first two debuted on March 15.
Variety spoke with “Manhunt” creator, executive producer and writer Monica Beletsky about striving for accuracy while still telling a thrilling story, the importance of showing Lincoln’s violent death and bringing period-appropriate hygiene to television.

[This story contains spoilers from the two-part season premiere of Manhunt.]
In an era of TV police and crime series like CSI and The Killing, using the forensic investigation of a crime scene, including DNA and fingerprints, to help find a killer and solve a murder is commonplace.
So Monica Beletsky, the creator of Apple TV+’s Manhunt miniseries, had a challenge when adapting the pursuit of Abraham Lincoln’s killer as a true-crime detective thriller, because Lincoln’s assassination in 1865, and the 12-day hunt for John Wilkes Booth that followed, took place well before real-life forensic science and the gathering of evidence at crime scenes had been established.
“I love the idea of, how do you find this needle in a haystack, this man who could be anywhere in North America, when you don’t have a phone, you don’t have cars or video cameras? There’s no 24-hour news,” Beletsky explains to the The Hollywood Reporter.

It’s possible to divide American history into two eras: before the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln and after. Before John Wilkes Booth fatally shot Lincoln at a performance of “Our American Cousin” at Ford’s Theater on April 15, 1865, assassination simply wasn’t a part of the national conscience. For all the political disputes of America’s 18th and early 19th centuries, straight up killing the other guy wasn’t seen as a possibility, let alone an option. Lincoln’s murder marked the transition to an America where, mathematically speaking, 9% of all sitting Presidents have been assassinated. And they say logging is a dangerous job.
The TV show “Manhunt” on Apple TV+, premiering March 15, tells the story of how Booth evaded capture for twelve days after killing Lincoln, but it’s also a dramatization of the first few weeks of the post-assassination era of American history — the era in which we live today.

Everyone knows the name John Wilkes Booth. The actor shot U.S. president Abraham Lincoln at Ford’s Theatre in 1865, only five days after Union forces won the Civil War. But have you heard of Edwin M. Stanton, the driven secretary of war and close friend of Lincoln who led the ensuing manhunt to nab the assassin? His life-risking 12-day pursuit through a fractured nation is brought to life in Manhunt, a seven-episode limited drama based on James L. Swanson’s 2006 bestseller and starring Tobias Menzies. “Stanton’s not necessarily straightforwardly likable; he’s fierce, uncompromising,” says Menzies, who counts him among the “deeply complex and contradictory” types he’s drawn to play, such as Prince Philip in The Crown, for which he won an Emmy, and sadistic “Black Jack” Randall in Outlander. Booth (Anthony Boyle), who sees himself as a hero, eludes capture, despite a broken leg, with the...

Prince William and Queen Camilla (formerly known as Camilla Parker Bowles) haven’t always had the best relationship. After all Camilla was the same woman Princess Diana blamed for breaking up her marriage, and when William met with her for the first time the future queen came out of that meeting flustered exclaiming that she needed alcohol.
There have also been reports over the years that Camilla’s relationship with her stepsons was always a little icy and distant. Moreover, in Prince Harry’s memoir Spare the duke claimed he and William both begged their father not to marry her. But things between the Prince of Wales and his stepmother have changed now and an expert noted that is evident in their body language. So while the queen and Prince William may have taken the long road to get where they are today, they made it.

Few moments are more infamous in American history than the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. After years of fighting the Civil War, Lincoln had finally completed his task. With Lee’s surrender, he wanted to move forward with the act of reconstruction. Obviously, we know John Wilkes Booth cut that time short, but the story behind Booth’s capture proves thrilling throughout Manhunt. Excellent craftwork and a committed cast help Manhunt one of the sleeper achievements of 2024 on TV.
Manhunt – The Plot
The new Apple TV+ series centers on two stories – Booth (Anthony Boyle) as part of a larger conspiracy and Edwin Stanton’s (Tobias Menzies) hunt for the traitors. Over the course of the series, we watch as Booth and his compatriots move the final pieces into position to kill Lincoln. When the right opportunity presents itself, their three-pronged plan springs into action. Simultaneously, we watch Stanton move from a role as U.

Plot: Based on the Edgar Award-winning non-fiction book from author James L. Swanson, “Manhunt” is a conspiracy thriller about one of the best known but least understood crimes in history, the astonishing story of the hunt for John Wilkes Booth in the aftermath of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.
Review: The life and untimely death of Abraham Lincoln have been fodder for film and television since the invention of the medium. Before that, books and stage plays told the story of the President who ended the Civil War, abolished slavery, and died unceremoniously. But, in all of the tales of Honest Abe and his killer, John Wilkes Booth, few have chronicled the tumultuous aftermath between Ford’s Theater and the capture of those who perpetrated the heinous murder. Aside from Robert Redford’s The Conspirator, which focused on the trial of Booth’s accomplices, we have never gotten a full retelling of the events.

The latest Tournament of Champions on Jeopardy! has delivered many shocking moments.
Tuesday’s new episode was another for the books after Ben Chan comfortably beat out fellow champions Justin Bolsen and Emmett Stanton.
At the beginning of the high-octane installment, host Ken Jennings discussed how the 2024 Tournament of Champions has been the most “dramatic in history.”
Going into the episode, Chan was seen as a strong competitor, with nine initial wins. Still, given that many strong competitors had already lost their spot in the tournament, nothing was off the table.
From the jump, Chan had a comfortable lead, snagging a Daily Double at $7,000.
By the time we got to Double Jeopardy!, he had banked $11,400, compared to Bolsen’s $1,600 and Stanton’s $3,200.
Ben Chan’s victory was imminent
By the Final Jeopardy!, he had amassed $29,800, so it was inevitable he would be leaving with the win and advance to the semifinals.
