Malin Akerman may be starring in a new televisions series. The “Billions” actor exclusively tells me that she recently shot a pilot for a dark comedy that addresses suicide. It was written by her husband Jack Donnelly.
For Akerman, who plays a therapist on the show, mental health issues hit close to home because her mother struggled with depression for most of her childhood. The experience inspired Akerman’s work with On Our Sleeves, an organization that helps families talk about mental health.
“It was up and down with my mom, as it is with depression,” Akerman says. “Sometimes she went real dark and we didn’t see her for days. She would lock herself in her room. And sometimes she was the best thing since sliced bread. And that was so much fun. She’s such a great person. I feel for her. I feel for anyone who struggles with depression.

I was lucky enough to chat with both Thomas Jane and Malin Akerman about their upcoming Vampire comedy, Slayers. In this day and age, vampire stories have been told time and time again and rarely do they have any kind of originality. Thankfully, Slayers has a new take on them that makes the rules around them much more interesting. Then there’s Thomas Jane’s Elliot Jones character who may just be my favorite vampire hunter of the last decade and we’ve got the recipe for a fun time at the movies. So join me for my fun conversation with the two actors where we dive into the film.
Slayers synopsis: Kick-butt vampire slayer, Elliot Jones, has one mission to find the vampire who murdered his teenage daughter… but he’ll need the help of social media superstars -The Stream Team. Upon accepting an opportunity to meet reclusive billionaire Beverly Rektor,...

The recent release of television shows like Let the Right One In and Interview with the Vampire, as well as movies like Day Shift and The Invitation, prove that stories about vampires will always be in style. Our obsession with social media like Instagram and TikTok has made it possible for almost anyone with a camera and a platform to become a celebrity, so Influencer culture is also very much in style right now. When you take a group of influencers and force them to battle a vampire syndicate, you have the recipe for a modern horror comedy.
Written by Zack Imbrogno (The Shadow Diaries) and K. Asher Levin, and directed by Levin, Slayers tells the story of a self-proclaimed vampire hunter named Elliot Jones, played by Thomas Jane, who teams up with a clueless, spoiled group of YouTube celebrities who are being targeted by what Elliot describes as the vampire illuminati.

Plot: A vampire slayer targets billionaire bloodsuckers who have lured a group of social media influencers to their remote compound.
Review: Just one month after the theatrical and VOD release of the thriller Dig, which was directed by K. Asher Levin and starred Thomas Jane, we’re getting the theatrical and VOD release of another Levin / Jane collaboration… and this one is quite different from their previous one. The new(er) movie is a horror comedy called Slayers, which finds Jane taking on the role of experienced vampire slayer Elliot Jones. The narration from Jones informs us that vampires have existed since the dawn of time – and humans have been secretly warring against them for thousands of centuries. While Jones has been in the slayer game for a couple decades at this point, he’s just one of the latest slayers in a long line of them, including some major historical figures.

"It's vamp time." The Avenue has unveiled an official trailer for a film titled Slayers, yet another vampire hunters film out this year (to go along with Day Shift and V for Vengeance). In the indie horror comedy film, a kick ass vampire slayer is out to avenge his daughter, killed viciously by a vampire, and must team up with a superstar influencer content house called 'The Street Team' that will help him take his revenge before the vamp scum can take their necks and bodies. This is a tame red band trailer but they say: "Warning! Not for the faint of heart of those who faint at the sight of blood." This vampire slayers film stars Thomas Jane, Kara Hayward, Jack Donnelly, Lydia Hearst, Malin Akerman, Abigail Breslin. It all looks like a mashup of streaming keywords and every bad idea from the worst movies nowadays thrown into a basket of forgettable vampire fun.

The portmanteau word “friendsgiving” has been in the popular American lexicon for over a decade now, though the institution it describes is far, far older. Surely for as long as families have been gathering to bond, feast and drive each other gradually crazy over Thanksgiving, the option of a less fractious holiday spent with kith rather than kin has been on the table. Yet the takeaway, such as it is, from Nicol Paone’s sketchy, loose-knit ensemble comedy “Friendsgiving” is that there ultimately isn’t much difference between the two: Turkey Day, it seems, is a recipe for conflict with or without blood relatives in attendance.
It’s a premise that “Friendsgiving” contrives by clumping together a pick-and-mix of mismatched, eccentric characters whom you can’t imagine ever willingly hanging out in the first place; whatever history or chemistry binds them is largely lost in the boozy haze of a slender screenplay.

Zany holidays have long been a staple of cinematic comedies. That being said, it’s almost always Christmas that gets the attention, leaving Thanksgiving largely in the dust. It’s a missed opportunity, too, as Thanksgiving dinners are notoriously full of awkward conversations, unfortunate political debates with a crazy relative, and the like. So, it makes sense to focus a film on the holiday. What’s more, the non-family gathering version, where friends come together to celebrate, has just as much potential. Unfortunately, Friendsgiving is a real missed opportunity to craft something hilarious. There are sporadically amusing moments, but mostly, it’s a disappointment and a waste of a very solid cast. The movie is a comedy, centered around a Thanksgiving dinner/party. It’s been a tough year for Abby (Kat Dennings) and Molly (Malin Ackerman), with relationships coming to an end. Abby is looking forward to a laid-back Thanksgiving with her best friend,...

The 90-minute Atlantis finale is a powerhouse of storytelling and intrigue, marked by some exceptional performances...
This review contains spoilers.
2.12 The Queen Must Die
The finale of Atlantis is feature length, bringing together a two-part story into one last episode written by series co-creator Howard Overman and entitled, quite ominously, The Queen Must Die.
With Jason and Hercules off to break a prisoner out of the cells, Pythagoras and Icarus share a tender moment talking about stars and maths, whilst they hide from a patrol. So focused on their plan are they that they remain unaware of Icarus' deception as he attempts to secure the release of his father, Daedalus, by leaking the rescue plans to Pasiphae.
Rescuing his fellow slaves, Jason inadvertently leads them into an ambush. As the bodies pile up, Jason realises they have been betrayed and Pythagoras knows by whom. As they escape Atlantis, another betrayer...

The Dying Of The Light takes Atlantis further down its dark path, with Pasiphae at her most dangerous and unpredictable...
This review contains spoilers.
2.10 The Dying Of The Light
Broadly speaking, things are not going well in Atlantis. Our heroes are on the run and not getting on, Pasiphae isn’t the happiest of monarchs as she hunts for Ariadne and tries to keep her secret… secret, and the darkness could very well be about to consume Atlantis.
With Medusa dead, Pasiphae has confessed her secret, sending Jason on the dark path prophesied by The Oracle. Now on the run, thanks to an audacious rescue by Jason, Ariadne must survive as well as ensure that the friends are bound together, despite their growing differences that occasionally lead to violence.
Pasiphae has had her own confidence issues, knowing that now Jason is aware of his heritage and that he's the true heir to the throne.

With Pasiphae now in a position of power, the Gods have warned that they are angry and have spoken through new Oracle, Cassandra. Unhappy with the condemnation of her actions, Pasiphae is advised that the solution is clear - get Ariadne to pass on the crown and kill the young queen.

Sarah Parish thinks that the BBC didn't want to take the risk on a third series of Atlantis because it was an expensive show that didn't get a mass audience immediately.
The show was axed in January ahead of the broadcast of the second half of its second series.
"It's very sad," Parish - who plays Pasiphaë in the fantasy adventure - told Metro of the cancellation.
"The programme was cancelled because it was expensive to make and because it didn't get a huge audience straight away, so I think it was a risk the BBC didn't want to take."
She added: "I feel sorry for the fans because we had quite a big following. They were loyal and very upset when they found out the programme had been cancelled.

Atlantis co-creator Johnny Capps has said it was "unfair" to axe the show before its second series had finished airing.
Capps told The Guardian that the BBC "had to decide" the fantasy drama's fate within the first six episodes of series two transmitting.
"[That] was unfair because you're making a judgement before the series is even finished - how are you supposed to know how it will be received by the audience?" he said.
"In the middle of the episodes shown before Christmas there was a bit of a drop in viewing figures - but it picked up again towards the end.
"When Breaking Bad started, it had its own difficulty with viewing figures. The second series had a dip, but because it then went on to Netflix, the audience grew.

Atlantis will return to BBC One next month.
The fantasy drama will resume its second series on Saturday, April 11 at 7.45pm.
Based on the Greek myths, Atlantis was cancelled by the BBC earlier this year, but returns to air its final seven episodes.
Series star Jack Donnelly - who plays Jason - previously told Digital Spy that he was "gutted" by news of the show's axing.
"Everything is left up in the air - everything," he said. "I think the ending is brilliant, but they really set it up - the producers definitely had an idea for what the third series was gonna be.
"We'd had massive discussions - me and the other actors - about what might happen and that's all left up in the air."
Atlantis also stars Robert Emms, Mark Addy, Aiysha Hart and Sarah Parish, and was co-created by Misfits writer Howard Overman and Merlin's Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy.

BBC One revealed late last month that its fantasy drama Atlantis would not be returning for a third series.
Fans were left disappointed - and show lead Jack Donnelly has told Digital Spy that he too is "gutted" about Jason's journey being left "up in the air".
Speaking to Jack to promote his spoof football documentary United We Fall, DS took the opportunity to ask him about Atlantis getting axed - read on for the actor's candid response.
Was ending Atlantis a collective decision, or were you simply told the show wouldn't be coming back?
"I was literally told 3 weeks ago that it was not coming back, 'cause I was contracted to 5 years, should it go on. I was about to go on holiday with my family.
"I don't know if there's a 'media line' I'm supposed to go with for this, but I'll be totally honest, I was gutted.

His days in Atlantis may be behind him, but you haven't seen the last of Jack Donnelly.
The young actor's next project sees him cast as cocky footballer Olly Hunter in the wholly improvised spoof documentary United We Fall - the tale of a Manchester United squad on the verge of matching the Class of '92's epic achievements, before it all goes so, so wrong.
To mark the DVD release of United We Fall, Digital Spy spoke to Donnelly about his lack of real football skill and tackling (geddit?) improvised comedy.
The first question I have to ask - are you a United supporter?
"Erm... no - I've got to be honest, I'm not a massive football fan! I used to support United because my Dad is a huge football fan and a huge United fan, so when I was 8 or 9 I used to watch the games with him.

The first question I have to ask - are you a United supporter?
"Erm... no - I've got to be honest, I'm not a massive football fan! I used to support United because my Dad is a huge football fan and a huge United fan, so when I was 8 or 9 I used to watch the games with him.

It appears that plans for season three of BBC's Atlantis have sunk. The TV show, which airs on BBC America here in the States, has been cancelled after two seasons.
On Atlantis, a young man named Jason (Jack Donnelly) goes in search of his long-missing father and ends up on the shores of ancient Atlantis. He's befriended by a pair of unlucky locals -- former prize fighter Hercules (Mark Addy) and intellectual Pythagoras (Robert Emms) -- as well as a revered Oracle (Juliet Stevenson). Others in the cast include Sarah Parish, Aiysha Hart, and Jemima Rooper.

Atlantis will not return for a third series.
The fantasy drama will not be re-commissioned once the current run has finished airing, Digital Spy has learned.
Speaking exclusively to DS, a BBC spokesperson said: "The final seven episodes of Atlantis will transmit on BBC One in spring. We would like to thank Urban Myth Films and all the cast and crew but the series will not be re-commissioned.
"We are very proud of both series but to keep increasing the range of BBC One drama we have to make difficult decisions to bring new shows through."
The second series of Atlantis is comprised of 13 episodes - the first six aired late last year before the show went on hiatus, while an exact date for the final seven is yet to be confirmed.
The series, inspired by ancient Greek myths, starred Jack Donnelly as Jason, Mark Addy as Hercules and Robert Emms as Pythagoras.

Atlantis delivers yet another strong episode in series two. Can it keep up this momentum?
This review contains spoilers.
2.6 The Grey Sisters
Let's recap this week's action.
Jason is infuriated and hunting down Medea for her attempt to kill Ariadne. As he chases her through the forest, he's unable to catch her and threatens instead to kill her.
After chasing down but failing to capture Medea, Jason makes it clear that he will kill her but, with the Queen's life in danger, he, Hercules and Pythagoras return to Atlantis, passing Ariadne into the care of The Oracle.
As Hercules drowns his sorrows in food, he discusses the loss of Euridice with Orpheus, the elder intent on retrieving his love... even if it means a trip to Hades. "Where there's love, there's always a way," he says, cryptically.
Though it appears that the Queen may be recovering, it soon becomes clear...
