The Beverly Hills Cop movie series started in 1984 and it was one of the works that made Eddie Murphy a household star in the 80s and 90s. The first two movies were highly successful, but the third movie was a box office bomb and was panned by critics; today, it is considered to be the weakest movie in the series. Now, in 2024, amidst the revival/reboot craze, Axel Foley is back once again as Murphy tries to revive his career after a series of failures and controversies. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is the fourth movie in the series and it will be released by Netflix on July 3, 2024 globally.
As we wait for the premiere, Netflix has just released the first official trailer for the upcoming movie, several months after the initial teaser was released. We on Fiction Horizon are bringing you the trailer for your enjoyment!

Eddie Murphy is back with a badge for the fourth franchise installment of his beloved series, with “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.”
The upcoming Netflix film, which teased a first look earlier this year, marks Murphy’s long-rumored reprisal the iconic character Detective Axel Foley. The ’80s-era franchise first began with Foley as a Detroit detective turned temporary L.A. police officer for an uncover mission. Now, after having worked in L.A. sporadically for decades, Foley teams up with his estranged daughter Jane (Taylour Paige) to take down yet another conspiracy.
Along the way, Foley lands a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and police captain (Kevin Bacon), but his old confidantes, including Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton), are still in the mix. Also returning? Franchise co-stars Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot.

Two Saturday Night Live legends, Pete Davidson and Eddie Murphy, are joining forces for The Pickup, an upcoming comedy directed by Tim Story. The project hails from Amazon MGM Studios, with plot details remaining a mystery. Smoke on the street says The Pickup is a heist comedy with a script by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows.
In addition to his directorial duties, Story produces through his The Story Company banner, with Davis Entertainment’s John Davis and John Fox, and Murphy and Charisse Hewitt-Webster via Eddie Murphy Productions. The Story Company’s Vicky Mara Story, Davis Entertainment’s Jeremy Stein, and Kevin Burrows, Ross Fanger, and Matt Mider executive produce.
When he’s not the subject of paparazzi fodder or changing dating partners like fresh pairs of underwear, Davidson appears in films like Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Fast X, Dumb Money, and Good Burger 2. He recently completed his role for The Home.

Eddie Murphy is ready to have the last laugh as police lieutenant Axel Foley in the teaser trailer for Netflix’s Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.
Hitting the streamer in the summer of 2024, the new movie from director Mark Molloy revives the action-comedy franchise three decades after the previous installment. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F stars Murphy as Detroit native Foley, who returns to Beverly Hills after the life of his daughter (Taylour Paige) is threatened.
The film sees Foley teaming with a new partner — played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt — while investigating a possible conspiracy and spending time with familiar faces including Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold), John Taggart (John Ashton), Jeffrey Friedman (Paul Reiser) and Serge (Bronson Pinchot). Kevin Bacon is also part of the action as Captain Grant.
“Watch your ass out there, Ok?” Reiser warns Murphy, who responds, “I’m gonna be fine. They love me in Beverly Hills.

Prepare to have the ’80s synth tones of the “Beverly Hills Cop” theme song stuck in your head again.
Netflix has released the trailer for “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F,” the fourth film in the popular “Beverly Hills Cop” franchise starring Eddie Murphy. The film is slated for release on the streamer in summer 2024.
Directed by Mark Molloy, “Axel F” hits screens about 30 years after “Beverly Hills Cop III” was released in 1994. Murphy returns as the titular character, a Detroit cop solving crimes in Beverly Hills. Judge Reinhold and John Ashton also return as local cops Lt. Billy Rosewood and Sgt. John Taggart.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kevin Bacon are both newcomers to the “Beverly Hills Cop” universe. Taylour Paige joins the cast as Foley’s estranged daughter, while Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot and Mark Pelligrino also star.
Murphy spoke to People about what it was like returning to the franchise decades later.
Netflix has released the trailer for “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F,” the fourth film in the popular “Beverly Hills Cop” franchise starring Eddie Murphy. The film is slated for release on the streamer in summer 2024.

One cannot understate the impact Martin Brest's crime comedy "Beverly Hills Cop" had on popular culture when it was released in 1984. Between "Cop," the 1983 comedy "Trading Places," and Walter Hill's 1982 buddy film "48 Hrs.," Eddie Murphy was suddenly one of the largest and most striking movie stars in the world. His glib delivery and willingness to be crass rattled cinemas to an astonishing degree, and audiences began flocking to see Murphy in just about anything. Brest's film was made for a mere $13 million and would rack up about $316 million worldwide. It was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards.
In the film, Murphy played Axel Foley, a Detroit-based detective who says he's going on vacation to Beverly Hills, but who is secretly investigating the death of a friend, unbeknownst to his bosses. The film involves a lot of Murphy's bafflement at the posh, unusual, upscale...

The heat is back on next summer. Eddie Murphy can currently be seen in the new hit Christmas comedy on Prime Video, Candy Cane Lane. The family-friendly film reunites him with his Boomerang director, Reginald Hudlin. Next year, Murphy will be reuniting with Jerry Bruckheimer, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. While 48 Hrs. landed Murphy in Hollywood as an instant star, 1984’s Beverly Hills Cop catapulted him into the stratosphere as an A-list action-comedy star. After 1994’s Beverly Hills Cop III was not received well by fans, development for a fourth was in the works for a while, and it is now about to hit screens. Netflix has unveiled new plot details and a teaser poster for the new Axel Foley adventure.
The official plot synopsis of this installment reads,
“Detective Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) is back on the beat in Beverly Hills.

Three and a half years ago, Sony’s Columbia Pictures announced that they were developing a reboot / reimagining of the 1997 “nature run amok” thriller Anaconda (watch it Here), with the intention of “taking what was a simple and relatively cheap programmer with a B-movie concept and event-izing it in scope and budget”. They’re obviously sticking with the idea of going big with this one, because reliable “inside scoop” provider Daniel Richtman has heard that the lead roles have been offered to Paul Rudd and Pedro Pascal!
We have to take this as a Rumor for right now, since there hasn’t been any sort of official confirmation regarding this news, but it does make sense. Paul Rudd stars in Sony’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife and its upcoming sequel, so of course they’d want to keep working with him on their event-sized Anaconda movie. And a few months ago, we...

Nicolas Cage’s career takes a turn for the metatextual in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. The 2022 movie, which also stars Pedro Pascal, incorporates large parts of the actor’s filmography and on-screen persona into an outlandish story about passion, fandom, and a plot to take down an international arms dealer. Director and co-writer Tom Gormican’s willingness to mix reality and fiction didn’t stop with the script. A disagreement between Cage and Pascal over the appearance of a prop made it into the final cut of the film.

In Tom Gormican's 2022 film "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent," Pedro Pascal plays Javi Gutierrez, a fun-loving playboy billionaire living in Majorca, Spain. Javi is a huge fan of actor Nicolas Cage and hires him to hang out for a weekend. Cage, playing himself, cautiously accepts the offer, having found himself in a bit of a creative rut; a younger version of Cage appears in visions to lambaste his older self that he is no longer the massive movie star he once was. Javi will spend a great deal of time heaping praise on Cage and eventually reveals that he has a secret collectibles vault full of Cage-related memorabilia. Cage, meanwhile, will be secretly approached by the CIA, and told that Javi is actually a dangerous arms dealer that might be involved in an ongoing kidnapping plot. The film is bright, whimsical, and enjoyable. Cage, as he always does,...

Considering the dispiritingly youth-obsessed leanings of Hollywood, 2022 has been an encouragingly banner year for older actors in muscular roles.
The array of brawny films led by strong quinquagenarians included Tom Gormican’s “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” with the 58-year-old Nicolas Cage playing a fictionalized version of himself across high-wire action sequences, generously paying homage to the action films of his past.
Joseph Kosinski’s “Top Gun: Maverick” was perhaps the leading title of this quiet trend. Maybe because we are accustomed to seeing Tom Cruise doing his own stunts with mind-blowing acrobatics across countless action films, we often forget that our ageless movie star is now at 60 years of age.
Gina Prince-Bythewood’s fierce “The Woman King” was another remarkable example of this group, with Viola Davis’ Nanisca in the lead of a group of female warriors protecting the African Kingdom of Dahomey.

As of June 30, we’re at the halfway point for 2022 — and for the Oscar eligibility year. There are dozens of possibilities coming up and many familiar elements — plenty of biopics, a reliance on fall film festivals, a heavy dose of streamers — but this could be an unusual year.
In the first six months of the year, A24’s “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and Paramount’s “Top Gun: Maverick” seem likely. They would have been Oscar longshots a decade ago, but both should do well since voters’ tastes are changing.
Also notable this year: The roster of directors is far more inclusive, in terms of gender and race, than in the past.
While the upcoming crop includes past winners like James Cameron, Damien Chazelle, Alejandro Inarritu, Sam Mendes and Steven Spielberg, there are new hopefuls, including Chinonye Chukwu, Andrew Dominik, Sebastian Lelio, Sarah Polley and Gina Prince-Bythewood, to name a few.

I admit I didn’t really notice Nicolas Cage (then billed as Nicola Coppola) in his debut, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, but I quickly became a fan after seeing him in 1984’s underrated Racing with the Moon. Since then, he has made dozens of movies, across the genres, going from romantic lead to tortured lead to action lead and back again.
Despite making all of these films, earning numerous nominations and earning an Academy Award, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, and numerous local critics’ awards, Cage has never quite gotten the respect his work deserves. Some of that is because of questionable career choices as well as an outsized public life that has garnered embarrassing headlines and unwanted notoriety.
Along the way, he has become a beloved cult performer, with many enjoying his low budget efforts and others rooting for him to regain his peak performance. With age and...

“The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” was already the most meta movie released this year, but one scene cut from the theatrical release took the concept much further. In director Tom Gormican’s comedy, star Nicolas Cage plays a fictionalized version of himself wrestling with a rough patch in his career, while being badgered by the imaginary “Nicky,” an abrasive manifestation of Cage’s younger self who mocks the actor for failing to achieve the greatness of his early days. In the original cut of the movie, Cage finally confronts his inner self in an ambitious black-and-white homage to “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.”
Cage has often cited the 1920 German Expressionist film as one of his favorites, and the opportunity to pay homage to its dream-like imagery was such a highlight of the experience that he continued to talk it up for the movie’s release, even though it didn’t make the final cut.

More often than not, good actors end up with a "bad" reputation because of their "less enjoyable" cinema projects, and the opposite is also possible, albeit in fewer numbers. The truth is that the general idea that literally all Hollywood celebrities live an above-average life without financial, personal, or family problems is somewhat misleading. Nicolas Cage is a perfect example of an incredibly talented actor who, due to the obstacles life confronted him with, was "forced" to participate in "smaller jobs" in order to solve complicated situations. Writer / director Tom Gormican's film The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is the quintessential tribute to the iconic career of someone who has always managed to elevate films he's been in. Directed by Tom Gormican and written by Gormican and Kevin Etten, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent can be described using adjectives that flawlessly define Cage's filmography and qualities. Universal’s kid-friendly caper “The Bad Guys” pulled off a heist for the ages, capturing the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office.
The animated comedy has collected 24 million from 4,009 North American theaters in its debut, enough to take the crown from “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.” In its second weekend of release, the latest chapter in the “Harry Potter” prequel series plummeted to third place with 14 million, a troubling sign for the Warner Bros.’ Wizarding film franchise. After a steep 67 decline, “The Secrets of Dumbledore” has generated 67 million to date.
“The Bad Guys” may have towered over the competition, but it was not the only newcomer to movie theater marquees. “The Northman,” a blood-soaked Viking epic from director Robert Eggers, and “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” a meta comedy in which Nicolas Cage plays a fictionalized version of himself, opened in theaters nationwide to varying results. When Nicolas Cage agreed to play a rambunctious, self-absorbed version of himself in the Lionsgate comedy “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” the actor had plenty of opinions about his character should behave. However, none surprised director Tom Gormican and co-writer Kevin Etten more than when Cage suggested he make out with a younger version of himself.
“I wouldn’t even have thought to suggest it,” Gormican said in an interview, “but it’s exactly the sort of Nicolas Cage choice that led us to write this movie.”
Among the many meta elements that “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” offers as it explores Cage’s attempt to retake control of his life, the movie concocts a younger version of the actor — whom he dubs “Nicky” — that goads the older Cage into reclaiming his wilder days. And in a key moment as Cage bickers with this living inner monologue, the pair actually lock lips.

This article contains mild The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent spoilers.
You know you’ve entered the uncanny valley when it is Nicolas Cage who cautions against hyperbole and overly dramatic line readings. Hence the snickers when Cage, playing a version of himself, looks Pedro Pascal dead into the windows of his soul and says, “Very dramatic, but is there an actual plan?”
The moment, which occurs right before the third act of Tom Gormican’s delightfully self-aware comedy, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, is appealing because it works on several levels at once. And in all of them, Cage is rebuking the caricature of himself that he helped cultivate over several decades, beginning with 2004’s National Treasure .

Getting a major Hollywood star to be in your movie is never an easy task, but it’s doubly difficult when a role was specifically written for one actor. That was certainly the case with “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” which stars Nicolas Cage as a fictionalized version of himself.
