Right on the heels of “Armageddon Time,” James Gray is teaming back up with Focus Features. The acclaimed filmmaker will direct “Ezekiel Moss,” a new feature set in the Great Depression, for the distribution company, a source confirmed to IndieWire.
According to the logline, “Ezekiel Moss” will be a ghost story set in the Great Depression and will focus on the friendship between a young boy and a drifter who arrives in his small town that may or may not have the ability to speak with the dead. Gray will direct the film from a screenplay by Keith Bunin, whose other credits include 2020’s “Onward” and Questlove’s upcoming remake of Disney’s “The Aristocats.”
Focus has reportedly been developing the project for several years; Philip Seymour Hoffman was reportedly attached to direct before his unexpected death in 2014. The movie will be produced by Likely Story for Focus, and is currently in pre-production,...

The largely autobiographical film "Armageddon Time" (read our review here) from director James Gray starring Jeremy Strong, Anne Hathaway, and Anthony Hopkins arrives in theaters this weekend. Gray isn't wasting any time getting his next project off the ground, with Deadline reporting that MadRiver Pictures has hired Gray to direct a biopic about John F. Kennedy that will focus on the former president's military career. The as-yet-untitled project plans to follow a young JFK who longs to distinguish himself and prove his worth to his powerful father. The story will chronicle JFK's harrowing true adventures in WWII when a Japanese destroyer sank his patrol boat and left Kennedy and his men shipwrecked.
Gray, who just received a Gotham Awards nomination for Best Screenplay, will rewrite a script from Samuel Franco and Evan Kilgore. Pre-production on Gray's next film, "I Am Pilgrim," is currently underway, so production on the biopic will begin sometime next year.

As Armageddon Time earns career-best reviews and gears up an awards run, James Gray strikes as the iron’s hot. Deadline reports movement on a coming-of-age John F. Kennedy biopic he’ll write (reworking a script originally by Samuel Franco and Evan Kilgore) and direct next year for Gray’s longtime producers Anthony Katagas and Marc Butan.
In what Gray calls “a unique opportunity to sweep away the myth and explore a side we don’t know at all,” the film will track Kennedy’s youthful ambition to impress his father and the World War II experiences that, as biopics always have it, helped create a man who changed history. Which is to suggest plenty potential for cliché, yet the sinking of Kennedy’s Pt boat and his subsequent, herculean efforts to save his men might engender an incredible and harrowing setpiece. And having spent years since Gray projects wondering if another would ever come,...

Just as his latest film “Armageddon Time” is hitting theaters, James Gray has already set up his next project. The “Ad Astra” and “Lost City of Z” director will helm a film about John F. Kennedy for MadRiver Pictures.
As originally reported by Deadline, the film will be a biopic depicting how JFK became the 35th president of the United States, after growing up desperate to prove himself in his politically powerful family —his father, Joseph P. Kennedy, was a successful businessman and a leading member of the Democratic Party. The film will particularly focus on Kennedy’s time in World War II, where he served as a commander of a patrol boat that was sunk by a Japanese destroyer in 1943. In the explosion, Kennedy took charge and helped the crew seek safety, and ultimately located rescue after a brutal two weeks. His actions won him a Navy and Marine Corps Medal,...

Jeremy Renner has been cast as legendary boxer Rocky Marciano in a new biopic being developed by producer Morris S. Levy. Marciano held the heavyweight champion title from 1952 to 1956, and what makes Marciano such a badass is the fact that he is the only heavyweight boxing champion ever to retire undefeated with a record of 49-0.
The story for the film will follow Marciano from his days as a kid to his death in a plane crash in 1969. The script is being written by Samuel Franco and Evan Kilgore, and Levy is currently on the hunt for a director.
Renner is an incredible actor whose career really took off after he starred in The Hurt Locker. Now most of us just know him as Hawkeye from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's great to see that he landed such a great lead role in this movie. He seems like he is the perfect fit.

Jeremy Renner is set to play a boxer named Rocky, no not Rocky Balboa but rather Rocky Marciano - the real life heavyweight boxer and champ whom Stallone's character idolised in the early "Rocky" films.
"Undefeated: The Rocky Marciano Story" will follow Marciano's life from childhood until his death in a plane crash in 1969. Marciano held the heavyweight crown from 1952 to 1956 and is the only heavyweight champion to retire from his professional career undefeated - with a record of 49-0.
Morris S. Levy will produce the film which has been penned by Samuel Franco and Evan Kilgore and is currently seeking a director.

The twice-Oscar-nominated Jeremy Renner continues his pursuit of the manliest film roles possible. Having previously portrayed an armed-forces bomb expert, a Bostonian thug, a superhero who uses a bow and arrow, an Imf agent, Jeffrey Dahmer, and Hansel (of Hansel and Gretel), Renner now takes on the role of Rocky Marciano, the second-most famous boxer named Rocky. Marciano held the title from 1952 to 1956 and remains the only heavyweight champ to retire undefeated, at 49-0. He died in a plane crash in 1969.
