"He told me we were going on vacation. I didn't know we was gunna be doing Rambo s&*t." Ugh, this looks so bad. Gravitas Ventures has debuted the official trailer for a crime comedy titled All About the Money, featuring an eclectic cast of actors. The wacky plot involves two "down on their luck" friends who are convinced by another friend to go on a vacation. Only after landing in Colombia do they realize that they are there to attempt to capture America's most wanted criminal - with no military training. The film stars Eddie Griffin, Blake Freeman, Casper Van Dien, Jon Gries, Mindy Robinson, Lin Shaye, as well as Danny Trejo. This looks like another movie right out of the 90s - totally ridiculous plot, ridiculous characters, lots of guns, absurd action. What more could you ask for? Oh right, some genuine humor maybe. Here's the official trailer...

This weekend, Oscar Isaac navigates the early 1960s folk scene as he determinedly searches for success in "Inside Llewyn Davis," and Christian Bale proves a brothers' bond has no limits in the dramatic "Out of the Furnace."
The newest Coen brothers' film, "Inside Llewyn Davis," stars Oscar Isaac, Justin Timberlake, and Carey Mulligan as aspiring folk musicians in 1960s Greenwich Village. The story follows Davis (Isaac) over a one-week period as he traverses the local music scene and attempts to make a name for himself, all while staying true to his art. "Inside Llewyn Davis," the Coens' first film since 2010's "True Grit," has been making the rounds on the festival circuit since May, when the film premiered at Cannes and won its Grand Prix award.

Certain second-generation actors or celebrities have a breezy charm and a well-grounded self-awareness about the benefits and drawbacks of show business life, while others wear bequeathed crowns of entitlement that can come across as unattractive. Zelda Williams, the 23-year-old daughter of Robin Williams and Marsha Garces, is just finding her way professionally, but already exhibits plenty of signs of the former. One of the highlights of the new road trip/videogame competition movie “Noobz,” Williams co-stars opposite writer-director Blake Freeman, among others, playing an enchanting but wisecracking gamer who’s the romantic interest of Jason Mewes’ character. For ShockYa, Brent Simon recently had a chance to chat with Williams one-on-one, about the movie, her unique name, [ Read More ]

Title: Noobz Director: Blake Freeman Starring: Jason Mewes, Blake Freeman, Matt Shively, Zelda Williams, Moises Arias, Jon Gries, Richard Speight Jr., Darly Craig, Lin Shaye, Rick Overton, Casper Van Dien, Mindy Sterling, Bill Bellamy, Adam Sessler An across-the-board comedic misfire that lamely tries to hitch its trailer to the $17-billion-a-year videogaming industry, “Noobz” trades entirely in familiar clichés, and seems to regard its mere existence as a triumph to be shared by all. A wearying stinker unredeemed by a handful of brave, game, small supporting turns, multi-hyphenate Blake Freeman’s film is kind of like a cross between “Road Trip,” “Empire Records,” “The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters” and the modern-day videogame comedy that Kevin [ Read More ]

Don't get us wrong -- from the moment we laid eyes on "Noobz," a sinking feeling set in. The final product could prove generic at best or a travesty at worst, one of those interminable films that's just bad. Still, a tiny pocket of hope lingered, a miniscule possibility that this film could in some way capture the passion, obsession and community that "Indie Game: The Movie" highlighted to great effect. "Noobz" snuffs out that hope early on, despite co-writer, director, and co-star Blake Freeman's repeat attempts to capture base gamer culture. This is due in part to the script, co-written by Freeman and Marvin Wilson, which briefly touches on the aimless, low-ambition lives of four gamers and then spirals off into the done-to-death road-trip-to-the-big-money-tournament plot. Freeman also damages his own production by playing one of the characters -- Cody, a cocky, careless pit of bottomless pessimism who elicits the least sympathy since Seth.

Hollywood has had a rough relationship with video game adaptations. Aside from Sony Pictures' Resident Evil franchise, which has a fifth installment starring Milla Jovovich hitting the big screen Sept. 14, most video game films have flopped. Even worse, many of these translations failed to attract the very gamers who made the franchises blockbuster hits around the globe. Blake Freeman hopes to change that with his August release, noobz. Wunderkind Pictures has entered a strategic marketing partnership to support the upcoming feature, which stars Jason Mewes (Jay and Silent Bob), Moises Arias (Ender’s Game), Matt Shively (True Jackson), Zelda Williams (House
