The “Mean Girls” musical has cast “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm as Coach Carr. The Emmy-winning actor and star of “Confess, Fletch” and “Beirut” will play the school’s gym teacher and sex-ed instructor. The film will adapt the Broadway musical, which in turn was an adaptation of the 2004 theatrical comedy “Mean Girls.”
The Paramount film, about a teen girl who moves from Africa with her anthropologist parents and finds herself unprepared for the community dynamics of an American public high school earned solid reviews and grossed $130 million worldwide on a $17 million budget in early 2004, becoming a generational touchstone on par with “Clueless” and “Heathers.” This live-action musical version will debut on Paramount+.

Apple TV+ is rehearsing to perform the Cell Block Tango. “Schmigadoon!” Season 2 is set to premiere April 7, and first look photos of the series came out of the streamer’s Television Critic’s Association winter press tour conference on Wednesday, revealing the show’s “Chicago” parody setting.
Season 1 of “Schmigadoon!” was a riff on the basic concept of “Brigadoon,” a 1947 Tony-winning musical. Cecily Strong and Keegan-Michael Key lead the cast as Melissa and Josh, a longterm couple in a rocky patch of their relationship. The pair stumble upon the remote town of Schmigadoon and soon discover they can’t leave the town until they understand true love: something the magical realm determined the partners weren’t in. Every episode featured multiple original musical numbers, patterned from “Brigadoon” and other musicals of its era, written by co-creator and showunner Cinco Paul.

Plastics, meet Arturo Perez Jr. and Samantha Jayne.
Paramount has hired the filmmakers, who are married, to direct the movie adaptation of “Mean Girls: The Musical.” The upcoming version isn’t a remake of Tina Fey’s 2004 modern cult classic — about cliquey high schoolers for whom the limit does not exist — but rather a cinematic take of the song-and-dance version that opened on Broadway in 2018.
Paramount Players, the studio’s division that’s developing the film, is keeping the exact logline under wraps, even though the stage version was faithful to the original source material. The cast has not been set yet. However, Fey, who wrote the screenplay and adapted it into a musical, previously told Variety the original Broadway actors — Erika Henningsen, Taylor Louderman and Ashley Park — won’t reprise their roles on screen. Lindsey Lohan, Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried played the core clique, who call themselves the Plastics,...
