At the opening of David Fincher’s The Killer, Michael Fassbender’s unnamed assassin describes his look as based on a German tourist he saw in London. It’s a convenient disguise for blending in on the streets of Paris because, as he explains, no one wants to interact with a German tourist. But what does that look like off the page? That task fell to costume designer Cate Adams, working with the exacting director. “David had a lot of ideas about how he wanted him to look,” she says. “He did not want him to look cool at all, like a typical assassin.” The solution? Bucket hats, Skechers and “lazy people clothing.”
Michael Fassbender as an assassin in The Killer. When Cate Adams first read the script, a costume note that jumped out at her was that The Killer is wearing a bucket hat. Immediately on her mood boards...

The stylish killer has long been a staple in crime films, and not just in Hollywood movies like “Collateral” and “Pulp Fiction.” The tradition spans the globe, from England (“Get Carter”) to Hong Kong (John Woo’s “The Killer“) and France (the revisionist noir films of Jean-Pierre Melville and Jean-Luc Godard). Yet for the new Netflix movie “The Killer” (no relation to the Woo film), director David Fincher wanted something different: a killer (Michael Fassbender) whose style was so nonexistent that he could just blend into the background of any city.
“In our initial conversations, David said that he didn’t want Fassbender to look cool, he wanted him to look dorky,” costume designer Cate Adams told IndieWire. “When he’s in Paris, we wanted him to look like a German tourist no one would want to go near.” That idea came from the guiding principle for the killer: Every...

This article contains major spoilers for "The Killer."How often do you think about your job? In terms of your daily duties, upcoming deadlines on your calendar, and other day-to-day issues, probably a fair amount. Yet how often do you consider your job — not just as a checklist but as a vocation — as something you're putting out into the world, as something that defines who you are as a person?
As the imaginary demon of toxic masculinity, Tyler Durden, famously says in David Fincher's "Fight Club," "You are not your job." Of course, Tyler is not to be trusted, and "Fight Club," like a majority of Fincher's filmography, is a pitch-black satire. What if you are your job, and what if your contribution to the world is both minimal and actively negative? What if your job, and all jobs, were this destructively banal, and everyone from sanitation staff...

The official trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures’ most buzzed-about summer movie, Barbie, promises this movie’s for those who love Barbie – and for those who hate the doll. And if you were on the fence about paying for a ticket to see writer/director Greta Gerwig’s twisted take on the popular doll line, the trailer should be the deciding factor. The trailer provides a glimpse of what’s in store once the dolls leave their perfect world and discover what it’s like to live in the real world. Cue an full-on existential crisis.
The cast is led by Oscar nominees Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken. America Ferrera (Superstore), Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live), Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), Ariana Greenblatt (Avengers: Infinity War), Issa Rae (Insecure), Rhea Perlman (I’ll See You in My Dreams), and Will Ferrell (the Anchorman films) also star.

To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in an ideal place unless you have a full-on existential crisis. In today’s new Barbie trailer, Margot Robbie’s blonde bombshell questions death, the limits of her world, and whether or not to red pill her way into a world where she’s nothing more than a child’s plaything. It’s clear that the film’s director, Greta Gerwig, is delivering something unexpected with the new Barbie movie, and I could not be more excited!
The new Barbie trailer shares more about the upcoming toys-to-life comedy plot, revolving around Barbie’s journey toward awareness of her identity in the real world. Until now, Barbie has lived in a land of non-stop beach parties, shopping sprees at the mall, and a will-they/won’t-they relationship with Ken. After she crosses over into our reality, she discovers her legacy,...

Big screen shark attack sequel Meg 2: The Trench will be swimming into theaters on August 4, 2023, and today the film has received its official rating from the MPA.
Like the previous film, Meg 2: The Trench has been rated “PG-13” for…
“Action/violence, some bloody images, language and brief suggestive material.”
Last week’s bloody official trailer suggested that Meg 2 could potentially be going a bit harder on the violence than the disappointing 2018 movie, but there was realistically no way Warner Bros. was going to risk potentially cutting into the sequel’s box office profits with an “R” rating.
The good news? As the trailer suggests, there are a lot of gruesome ways a massive shark can eat people – and other monsters, including a T-Rex this time around! – while still sticking to that PG-13 rating. After all, the three Megalodon sharks in the upcoming movie are so large that they’re literally swallowing humans whole,...

Here’s hoping the most hilarious moments aren’t in the over-the-top, action-packed trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures’ Meg 2: The Trench. The stunts have a Fast and Furious feel – they are implausible yet impressive – and the plot surpasses the first film, The Meg (2018), in terms of megalodon encounters. In the original movie, Jason Statham battled a colossal sea creature, but in the sequel, there are not one, not two, but three Megs for Statham and crew to take on.
Statham’s joined in this wild adventure by Wu Jing, Sophia Cai, Page Kennedy, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Skyler Samuels, and Cliff Curtis.
The original The Meg was directed by Jon Turteltaub, but it’s Ben Wheatley who takes over the reins for the sequel. The Meg‘s Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, and Dean Georgaris wrote the screenplay, based on Steve Alten’s novel The Trench. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Belle Avery serve as producers,...

Exclusive: Billy Porter has come on board to direct the feature adaptation of Camp for HBO Max and Warner Bros. Oscar winner Dan Jinks is producing through The Dan Jinks Company, and Robert O’Hara is rewriting the screenplay by Kit Williamson, which is based on the YA novel by Lev Rosen.
The film follows 16-year-old Randy Kapplehoff, who loves spending the summer at Camp Outland, a camp for queer teens. It’s where he met his best friends. It’s where he takes to the stage in the big musical. And it’s where he fell for Hudson Aaronson-Lim – who’s only into straight-acting guys and barely knows not-at-all-straight-acting Randy even exists. Randy reinvents himself over the summer as Del, a buff, masculine and on-the-market camper. Even if it means giving up show tunes, nail polish and his unicorn bedsheets, he’s determined to get Hudson to fall for him.

Warner Bros is pressing ahead with a biopic of Contact writer and Cosmos presenter Carl Sagan...
The late Carl Sagan is perhaps best known to moviegoers for having penned the book Contact, that Robert Zemeckis adapted into a feature film in 1997. But across his career, Sagan was a noted scientist and author, and in the Us, he hosted the television series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage. Cosmos is a show credited with opening up the idea of exploring the universe to a broader audience.
Warner Bros is now working on a biopic of Carl Sagan, and one of its producers will be Ann Druyan, Sagan's widow. Also on board to produce are Courtenay Valenti, Cate Adams, Lynda Obst and Rachel Abarbanell.
As of yet, it's unclear either who's writing or directing the Carl Sagan biopic, and that's before we get to the issue of casting. But as we discover more, we'll let you know.
