In these trying times, “Saturday Night Live” wants character actors of all stripes to be extra careful when walking around New York City — but Jon Hamm can relax.
10 days after Steve Buscemi was hospitalized after being unexpectedly punched in the face, NBC’s late-night show mocked the situation with a lighthearted sketch about protecting our actors who are recognizable but not necessarily household names. Host Jake Gyllenhaal appeared as an NYPD officer urging actors to stay safe while briefing reporters about the issue.
“Just this week, national treasure Steve Buscemi was punched while walking through Kips Bay,” he said. “These types of attacks cannot and will not be tolerated. So to everyone watching, I have one important message: Stop punching character actors in the face.”

The recent assault on Steve Buscemi on the streets of New York City spawned a skit for SNL that featured Jake Gyllenhaal as an NYPD sergeant urging bad guys to “stop punching character actors in the face.”
Speaking at a press conference for reporters, Gyllenhaal called character actors “the life blood of the entertainment industry” and expressed concern about the assaults on these “national treasures.” He said the attack on Buscemi followed similar ones on Rick Moranis and the “shocking versatile Michael Stuhlbarg.”
He went on to define character actors as “actors who faces you can remember but names you cannot,” including anyone “who has ever been on the TV show Boardwalk Empire, you have a face that makes casting directors go ‘oh interesting,'” and “your IMDb page has over 100 entries, but all your characters just have a first name.”

Apart from Thandiwe Newton and Steve Buscemi becoming series regulars (Thandiwe will play Dr. Fairburn and Buscemi will play Barry Dort), the series has managed to add a host of interesting guest stars, and some of them, one way or another, have connections to different variations of ‘Addams Family’ over the years.

Cinema is replete with all kinds of onscreen deaths, including the unforeseen ones, which serve either to terrify the unexpecting audience or for comic relief. Sometimes even when everything seems safe and quiet, the filmmakers kill their characters all of a sudden to our shock.
Here are 5 of the most unforgettable examples of such deaths, chosen by Redditors. Heavy spoiler alert, obviously!
1.The Departed (2006) - Billy (Leonardo DiCaprio)
Presumably, this one comes first to mind when we’re talking about jaw-dropping movie killings. The thriller’s finale promised a fair ending when DiCaprio’s character catches Matt Damon’s bad guy Colin and prepares to bring justice to him, but he gets suddenly shot by Colin’s friend with his brains left on the back of the elevator wall.
2. The Big Lebowski (1998) - Donny (Steve Buscemi)
Even the Donny actor confessed that this very onscreen demise is his favorite one.

Wednesday is completely different from its predecessors, because instead of the traditional story about an eccentric old-money family living in an antebellum mansion and hiding a lot of paranormal secrets, we got a school drama starring goth Jenna Ortega.
But none of this changes the fact that Wednesday turned out to be a great black comedy with enough satire, drama and, of course, the supernatural. After all, the co-executive producer is none other than Tim Burton.
As a result, the show has received rave reviews, high ratings and wins in four Primetime Emmy Award categories. So it's no surprise that Netflix decided to renew it for a second season, which we learned about in January 2023.
A year later, the series is approaching the active production phase, and with that, more and more details are emerging. For example, we recently received word that the new addition to Season 2 will be the legendary Steve Buscemi.

It’s always fascinating when a movie with a top star, and directed by another star, goes as far under the radar as Steve Buscemi‘s “The Listener,” starring Tessa Thompson, has.
But in the case of this particularly gentle movie — available on VOD now for $6.99 — maybe that’s part of its DNA. Like the mental health helpline operator Thompson plays, this is a movie that’s there if you need it: Quiet, thoughtful, and totally shunning the kind of splashiness that most movies are thought to require these days to stand out.
“The Listener” premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2022, where it was the closing night film of the Venice Days sidebar. On April 13, it was the closing night film of the Sarasota Film Festival, out of competition — in this over 18-month festival journey, it’s also made stops at the festivals in Vienna, Thessaloniki, Stockholm, The Hague,...

After Principal Larissa Weems’ death, many fans wish there was a way to bring the character back to life. But, with the announcement of Buscemi replacing Christie, the idea seems futile now.
Gwendoline Christie Talks About Larissa Weems’ Possible Return

It's not easy to get people to agree about stuff, but I think we can all agree that Steve Buscemi is one of the greats. Buscemi has been kicking around for years, appearing in big movies, small movies, TV shows, and more. He's a wonderful character actor who always heightens whatever material he happens to be attached to. Even if his part is small, you come away remembering what he did. Hell, he shows up as a waiter dressed like Buddy Holly in "Pulp Fiction" for about less than one minute and still steals that moment. He's that good. Whenever Steve Buscemi appears on screen, we all do the Leo point and proclaim, "Hey, 'it's Steve Buscemi!"
And now, he's joining the cast of "Wednesday" season 2. The "Addams Family"-adjacent show stars Jenna Ortega as everyone's favorite miserable young woman, Wednesday Addams. The series, which had episodes helmed by none other than Tim Burton,...

Every fan of “The Big Lebowski” knows that line: The final eulogy for Steve Buscemi’s character, Donny, who loved bowling and exploring the beaches of Southern California as a surfer from La Jolla to Leo Carillo, and on up to Pismo.
But Donny is just one of the many dead characters in Buscemi’s filmography. In a wide-ranging Q&a with Rolling Stone film critic David Fear at the Sarasota Film Festival, Buscemi talked about the particularly high body count in his filmography.
“I learned to try to get parts where your character doesn’t get killed off too early in the film, and to get parts where your character is actually important to the story. Because it’s so easy to get cut out of films. I was cut out of three films in the space of a year. One by Stephen Frears, one by Gus Van Sant,...

Emily Kassie and Julian Brave NoiseCat’s documentary “Sugarcane” garnered the top nonfiction honor at the 26th annual Sarasota Film Festival. About the abuse and death of Indigenous children at a Canadian-based Indian Residential School, the docu premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival (Sff), where it picked up the U.S. documentary directing kudo. In February, National Geographic Documentary Films acquired the film.
The doc feature jury made up of producer Wren Arthur, Indiewire’s Christian Blauvelt, NPR’s Eric Deggans, and Doc NYC artistic director Jaie Laplante said in a joint statement that they selected the film for “bravely tackling the legacy of trauma from the abuse of First Nations students at the St. Joseph’s Mission Residential School in British Columbia. The Listener has had a long and winding journey to its late March 2024 release. The movie, opening in theaters and available on video-on-demand tomorrow, is genuinely moving. Much of that credit should go to the director and actor, who seem in sync in tone and highlight an exploration of compassion and empathy.
Tessa Thompson delivers a terrific performance in The Listener, taking the viewer on a journey that’s fulfilling. Director Steve Buscemi coaxes out a cinematic experience that seems to aim to build a therapeutic rapport with its audience. This results in a “bottle” film with only one cast member, whom you can’t pull your eyes away from.

Miracle Workers has come to an end. TBS has canceled the anthology comedy series, its last remaining live-action comedy, after four seasons. The Season 4 finale, which is now the series finale, aired August 28.
The cancellation is not entirely unexpected. Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva reported in January that Season 4 could be the last. At the time, she heard that TBS no longer had options on the cast, led by Daniel Radcliffe, so new deals would need to be made for a possible fifth season — a daunting proposition, which networks rarely resort to. But she heard that the series’ creative team had an idea for a potential fifth season that Radcliffe was excited about, so, if Season 4 did well ratings-wise, it was possible that the show could have continued with Radcliffe, who would have needed to make a new pact.

Bad Bunny has teamed up with Steve Buscemi in a new music video for his song “Baticano,” based on the iconic 1922 silent horror film Nosferatu. Watch the video below.
Beginning with Buscemi working as a mad scientist in a lab, the video follows the wandering of his creation: the vampire Nosferatu, portrayed by Bad Bunny himself. Lip-syncing to the song, the Puerto Rican megastar moves through elegantly striking black-and-white sets, recreating shots from the F. W. Murnau-directed German Expressionist source material. As the video ends, Buscemi warns Nosferatu that Earth is “cruel” and “not ready” for him, as he is “too perfect for this world.”
But beyond being a fun, spooky romp, the “Baticano” video has a few strong messages illuminating some of the contradictions of society. At one point, a portrait of Jesus is shown hanging behind a man who is engaging in domestic violence. At another point,...

The new season of FX's Fargo is about a month away. It became one of the most original series on the air when it premiered in 2014, and it remains just as innovative and compelling, which says maybe as much about the indefatigable creativity of its showrunner, Noah Hawley, as it does about the self-regurgitating ouroboros of modern television. We're used to anthology series by now — "American Horror Story," "The Wire," "Black Mirror" — but we aren't used to seeing prestige dramedies done in this format. "Fargo" is gorgeously mounted, always features an impressive cast, hooks viewers in each time with a new, juicy Midwestern mystery.
This time around, "Fargo" will star the eye-catching line-up of Juno Temple, Jon Hamm, and Jennifer Jason Leigh in a tale of kidnapping, cover-up, and harmless housewives who are secretly anything but.

Miriam Margolyes writes in her new memoir, “Oh Miriam! Stories from an Extraordinary Life,” that Steve Martin was “horrid” to her on the set of Frank Oz’s 1986 “Little Shop of Horrors” movie musical (via HuffPo UK). Martin played the sadistic dentist Orin Scrivello, while Margolyes, best known these days for playing Professor Sprout in the “Harry Potter” film series, starred as his character’s assistant. They shared a musical number, “Dentist!,” in which his character slams a door in her face. Apparently he did so for real.
“During my only musical number (‘Dentist!’) I was hit all day by doors opening in my face; repeatedly punched, slapped, and knocked down by an unlovely and unapologetic Steve Martin,” Margolyes writes. “Perhaps he was method acting – and came home grumpy with a splitting headache.”
While Margolyes calls Martin “undeniably brilliant,” she adds, “but horrid to me….Let it not be said...

So, is it too late for a quick “vacay”? Sure, most of the schools are back in session, but since Labor Day is only next weekend, why not? And how about bringing along that wild and crazy couple you met a couple of years ago? Well, that could be trouble, though the main character in this comedy sequel believes he has everything under control. Yeah…right. So just what kind of chaos awaits in the Carribean for that quirky quartet (actually a sextet this time) in Vacation Friends 2? Aside from lots of frequent flyer miles, of course.
This farce actually begins in an airport terminal as Marcus (Lil Rel Howery) and his wife Emily (Yvonne Orji) leave their plane from Chicago to get their connecting flight to the Caribbean. Oh, and they’re meeting up with the wild and wacky Ron (John Cena) and Kyla (Meredith Hanger). And they...

2021 was unquestionably the Summer of Cena, as John Cena appeared in "Fast 9," "The Suicide Squad," and the truly delightful "Vacation Friends." The latter was, in this writer's opinion, the first comedy film since "Blockers" that truly knew how to play to Cena's comedic strengths as a leading man, and pairing him alongside Lil Rel Howery ("Get Out'), Yvonne Orji ("Insecure"), and Meredith Hagner ("Search Party") was a recipe for comedy gold. The film was a huge hit on Hulu, snagging a sequel greenlight less than a month after its debut on the Disney-owned streamer. Less than two years later, the foursome is back for "Vacation Friends 2," reuniting with writer-director Clay Tarver in the process.
The sequel picks up a few months after the first film, which saw Ron (Cena) and a pregnant Kyla (Hagner) finally tying the knot, doing so with their new friends Marcus (Howery) and Emily (Orji) by their side.
