Canada’s eOne division is rejigging following the Lionsgate buy, with Orphan Black EP Kerry Appleyard set to replace Tecca Crosby at the creative helm.
From April, Appleyard will take on the SVP Scripted and Unscripted role that Crosby has held for the past 12 years and will direct both genre teams creatively. She joins from Boat Rocker Studios where she was an EP on clone thriller Orphan Black, spin-off series Orphan Black: Echoes (AMC) and World War Two spy drama X Company, amongst others.
Crosby will “embark on a new chapter,” eOne said, after shepherding the likes of Private Eyes, Mary Kills People, Moonshine, Bitten and The Spencer Sisters.
eOne Canada has further reorganized by promoting Darren Giblin to SVP Current and Co-Productions and Andrew Kelly to VP Scripted Development, with Scott Boyd and Christine Diakos serving as VP’s Unscripted Development. Rounding out the team, Isabel Gomez-Moriana will continue as Director,...

Exclusive: eOne’s long-serving President of International Distribution, Stuart Baxter, is leaving ahead of the Yellowjackets and The Rookie studio’s $500M sale to Lionsgate, we can reveal.
The former Warner Bros. and Sony exec will exit his post at the end of the week after more than nine years at the helm of eOne’s London-based international distribution operation. In the role, he oversaw international TV and film international sales efforts across pay-tv, free-tv, SVOD and AVOD windows.
Under Baxter’s leadership, eOne’s international sales unit became one of the largest UK-based operations, raking in hundreds of millions of dollars each year through sales of shows such as The Rookie and The Walking Dead and films including the Twilight franchise. Since becoming part of Hasbro in 2019, it has also sold library titles from the toy firm’s catalog.

Hasbro has set its leadership team for its “asset-lite” entertainment division, a series of moves that come after the toymaker sold eOne to Lionsgate for $500 million and it “right-sizes” its entertainment footprint with a focus on kids content.
Olivier Dumont, previously President of Family Brands for eOne, will run Hasbro Entertainment, the company said Wednesday. Gabriel Marano, who was Co-Head of Scripted Development for eOne, will oversee television and Zev Foreman, who was President of Film Production for eOne, will run film.
Dumont becomes President of Hasbro Entertainment, with Marano as Head of Television and Foreman as Head of Film. Foreman and Marano were primarily focused on Hasbro IP projects while at eOne and will continue this work in their new roles for Hasbro.
Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks said Hasbro Entertainment would have a new “marquee mission” to develop, finance and produce entertainment based on its brands after the sale.

Exclusive: Hasbro-owned Entertainment One is undergoing a round of layoffs sources tell Deadline. The reduction is said to impact about 20% of the indie studio’s film and television staff.
“This workforce reduction is part of the ongoing transformational changes Hasbro announced in January to substantially reduce costs and increase growth rates and profitability,” Hasbro spokesperson Roberta Thomson said in a statement to Deadline, declining further comment.
Hasbro’s plan, announced in January, involves cutting 15% of the company’s global workforce this year, or about 1,000 positions.
The eOne layoffs follow Nick Meyer’s announcement last month that he was exiting as the indie studio’s President of Film when his contract ends in June.

In one of their first major moves after Entertainment One’s $4 billion acquisition by toy maker Hasbro was completed in early 2020, Entertainment One’s President and CEO Darren Throop and President of Film and Television Steve Bertram set out to find a Head of Television. They brought in former HBO President of Programming Michael Lombardo, initially as a consultant. Since he was named President of Global Television in June 2020, Lombardo has led a ramp-up of TV projects based on Hasbro properties as well as original ideas. Of the Hasbro IP, a big priority for the company is to develop scripted and unscripted series based on the classic Dungeons & Dragon game, Lombardo said in an extensive interview with Deadline about his programming strategy.

Hasbro-owned Entertainment One is letting go of 10% of its film and TV staff, Variety has confirmed.
According to a memo from eOne’s head of film and TV, Steve Bertram, the layoffs come amid a move to “evolve the focus and structure of our organization around the world” and comes in response to the “significant disruption the traditional studio model was experiencing as the technology giants invested heavily in their platforms and the creation of original content,” which has been accelerated by the pandemic.
Recent years have seen the cementing of heavily vertically integrated entertainment companies, from Disney to AT&T-owned WarnerMedia to Comcast-owned NBCUniversal, which have all launched streaming services.
Entertainment One, which was acquired by Hasbro in an all-cash $3.8 billion deal, shuttered its German theatrical distribution operation last fall and in 2019 halted direct theatrical distribution in Australia and New Zealand. Since being acquired by Hasbro, eOne...

Exclusive: Some breaking news. We’ve just heard from eOne staff that there will be a ten percent cut in the film and TV headcount at the Hasbro-owned mini-major.
A memo was just sent out to all staff by Steve Bertram, President, Film & TV, explaining the decision. You can read the memo in full below. We’ve reached out to eOne for comment.
The company employs around 1200 people worldwide across all divisions. Film and TV accounts for around 30-50% so by our calculation the cuts will likely impact around 50-60 staff worldwide.
This has been the flow of traffic at the traditional film and TV studios over the last couple of years as the market evolves and viewing habits change. “Sharp Objects” and “Run” producer-distributor Entertainment One is reassuring partners of its commitment to drama following its acquisition by toy giant Hasbro.
EOne has always cultivated a strong set of procedurals, such as ABC’s Nathan Fillion-starrer “The Rookie” and Fox’s Stephen Dorff-led “Deputy,” but has also gained traction with cable propositions such as HBO’s “Sharp Objects” and the forthcoming thriller “Run” from “Fleabag” creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who both produces and stars.

Mark Gordon is officially moving on from his role as Entertainment One’s president and chief content officer of film and television in the wake of a conflict with the group. Instead, he is shifting his efforts to developing and producing content for the British-Canadian indie as part of a multi-year deal, according to the company.
As Variety reported last month, Entertainment One was said to be pushing Gordon out of his position, with a source saying “they were unhappy together.”
“In today’s rapidly expanding market, content has become the greatest differentiator and Mark Gordon is one of the best content producers in the business,” said eOne CEO Darren Throop in a release. “Our shift towards content production has continued to bear fruit and position eOne for ongoing success across film and television. Mark Gordon is settling out and will be leaving his position as president of Entertainment One, Deadline has confirmed. It appears to be a case of a bad marriage between the Canadian company and a prolific hit maker who sold his Mark Gordon Co for hundreds of millions of dollars.
EOne said: “While we don’t comment on internal organizational discussions, we can say that Mark Gordon continues to be a very important part of the eOne team now and into the future.”
Any exit might take time, because Gordon is under an employment contract and eOne has made a substantial investment in him. It is likely he would return to a focus on development and producing, which he did so well under his own banner. At eOne, Steve Bertram, Nick Meyer and Peter Micelli had been running day to day on film and TV and are expected to continue to do so.

Having grown up on the wonderfully horrific Alvin Schwartz book series, Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark, I'm extremely interested to see how this upcoming film adaptation turns out. The fact that Guillermo del Toro is involved with the development gives me hope that it will be as good as it should be.
Today Del Toro has confirmed that production on the film will start in a few days!
We start shooting in a few days- in Toronto! https://t.co/u8pCMfjAD1

The story is said to follow "a group of young teens who must solve the mystery surrounding sudden and macabre deaths in their small town."
One thing that I really hope to see in this movie is those creepy-ass visuals from the book being brought to life. Those things gave me nightmares when I was growing up! It will be interesting...
