In the 3D animated comedy, The Angry Birds Movie, we’ll finally find out why the birds are so angry.
The movie takes us to an island populated entirely by happy, flightless birds – or almost entirely. In this paradise, Red (Jason Sudeikis, We’re the Millers, Horrible Bosses), a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck (Josh Gad in his first animated role since Frozen), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride, This is the End, Eastbound and Down) have always been outsiders. But when the island is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to these unlikely outcasts to figure out what the pigs are up to.
Featuring a hilarious, all-star voice cast that includes Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids, Sisters), Bill Hader (Trainwreck, Inside Out), and Peter Dinklage (“Game of Thrones”), as well as Kate McKinnon (“Saturday Night Live,” Ghostbusters), Sean Penn (Milk, Mystic River), Tony Hale (Veep, Arrested Development...

The latest trailer for The Angry Birds Movie doesn't contain very much new footage, so my opinion of it hasn't changed very much since the last trailer finally made me understand why the film exists. The biggest revelation for me was in the credits at the very end: I knew that Jason Sudeikis, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph, and Patton Oswalt were in the film, but Sean Penn? I had no clue he was in this! I must have completely missed that announcement. (So did his IMDb page, apparently.)
The Angry Birds Movie hits theaters on May 20th.

It might have surprised you that Angry Birds managed a movie, or it might not have surprised you at all, but the crew assembled for this curious, based-on-an-app-game effort is a little surprising, even for those too jaded to bat an eye at this money grab.
It’s a cast that would make you think you’re in for something amazing, but the trailer doesn’t exactly flesh out what it is that makes these birds so angry, except that Red (Jason Sudeikis) seems to have stumbled out of Inside Out.
It’s bound to make a ton of money (and have virtually nothing to do with the game), but the general irritation at film adaptations just for the sake of raking in dough could win out if this one doesn’t give us a lot more info in a hurry.
Check it out, and let us know what you think.

Rovio Entertainment has selected the Vancouver-based Sony Pictures Imageworks ("Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs," "Hotel Transylvania") as the animators for the movie based on its immensely popular "Angry Birds" video game franchise.
Rovio's CEO Mikael Hed says: "It was very important for Rovio to find the perfect partner – in style, talent and location – to bring the Angry Birds movie to life, and Sony Pictures Imageworks in Vancouver made that decision easy."
John Cohen and Catherine Winder are set to produce the film, and the choice of Vancouver was helped by generous tax credits and local subsidies to bring the production to the Canadian city.
British Columbia premier Christy Clark says: "Angry Birds is a worldwide phenomenon, and its creators want its movie adaptation done right. And to do it right, Rovio and Sony Pictures Imageworks have shown their faith in Vancouver – and that will lead to more opportunities and more jobs.

Following in the steps of Bad Piggies and Angry Birds Go!, Rovio has announced another spin-off of their wildly popular Angry Birds franchise entitled Angry Birds Stella.
This announcement encompasses more than just another game though, as the company revealed that they are already working on an animated series based around the spin-off. Rovio has previously partnered with animation studio Kombo in order to release both Angry Birds Toons and an upcoming series based around Bad Piggies.
Centring around the titular pink bird and her new set of feathered friends, Stella will focus on bringing messages of “inspiration, empowerment and other real issues” to its intended audience. The Finnish developer has also revealed that this new project will delve further into the world of the franchise and into parts we have never seen before.

The idea to make a movie based on insanely-popular game "Angry Birds" was first introduced years ago, but the project had yet to gain any forward momentum. Now (fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how eager you are to see those birds fly in 3-D), it looks like the film will come to fruition after all, with sources telling The Wrap that veteran screenwriter Jon Vitti has been hired to pen a script. Vitti, an Emmy-winning writer and producer on shows such as “The Simpsons,” “King of the Hill,” and “The Office,” is no stranger to turning existing stories into successful big screen features, having contributed his writing and consulting talents to films such as “The Simpsons Movie,” “Alvin and the Chipmunks,” and the first two “Ice Age” movies. But he may face an uphill battle with "Angry Birds," which has no real plot and whose outcome is based purely on gamers' performance.

From a little smartphone video game to becoming licenced in everything from clothes to bath accessories, now comes word that “Angry Birds” will make the leap to the big screen. The progenitor of the game, Finnish developer Rovio Entertainment, has enlisted “Despicable Me’s” John Cohen to produce.

Keeping things totally relevant and not at all taking a huge financial risk given that we probably won’t even be using mobile phones in 2016 (we’re predicting futuristic brain transceivers), the creative geniuses over at Angry Birds have announced a feature film adaptation for just around then.
And tasked with dragging a fully-fledged narrative structure out of a mobile app game which involves firing colored birds at pigs taking refuge in various flimsy structures is John Cohen, the optimistic chap who has just signed on to work such wonders.
Now, before you ponder which lucky studio have attached themselves to such a financially sound project like this, we’ll tell you: none. Rovio, the company who actually make Angry Birds, are set to finance this one themselves. After all, what kind of maniac would give up such a lucrative option like this? Especially one with that enviable four-year production date.

"Angry Birds" has already conquered the video game app market and with a new animated series in the works, it's also well on its way to dominating television as well. And now, after a year and a half of behind the scenes work, it appears "Angry Birds" is officially taking aim at the world of movies, as Deadline is reporting that the "Angry Birds" feature film is set to hit theaters in 2016.
And these birds aren't just going to be angry, they're also going to be despicable.
That's because "Despicable Me" producer John Cohen has signed on to produce "Angry Birds." He joins former Chairman of Marvel Studios and "Iron Man" executive producer David Maisel, pretty much assuring that this edition of "Angry Birds" is going to pack a real wallop.
Naturally, Mikael Hed, the CEO of "Angry Birds" parent company Rovio Entertainment, is pretty darn stoked.

Two years after we heard about Angry Birds being developed for the big screen, Rovio Entertainment has finally attached a producer to it. The film will be developed by Despicable Me producer John Cohen. Iron Man producer David Maisel is also attached to the project. This game is still growing in popularity, and it's sure to be a very successful film regardless of how good or bad it will be. There's just a huge market out there for the franchise, and that's why it's going to do very well.
The story will basically follow a team of skilled birds fighting an evil army of green pigs who have stolen their eggs. Hopefully they can build a fun and entertaining story around the basic plot of the game. Cohen had this to say n a statement,

Angry Birds Star Wars has been topping app store charts around the world, but now the game's developer Rovio has its sights set on Hollywood in another way: an official Angry Birds movie to be filmed in 3D.
The company has announced that the film will be released in the summer of 2016, with John Cohen signed on to produce it, and David Maisel executive producing. Rovio will be making and financing the film itself, rather than working with a big studio partner.
Cohen's production credits include Despicable Me and Hop, although his CV also includes work on Ice Age, Robots and Dr Seuss' Horton Hears a Who. Rovio's announcement also boasts that he "had the idea to reimagine Alvin and the Chipmunks" for their 2007 movie comeback.

Rovio is hoping to repeat its "Angry Birds" success with a new videogame called “Amazing Alex.” The game, a revamp of a pixelated precursor called “Casey’s Contraptions,” is scheduled for release within the next two months, Rovio CEO Mikael Hed said on a Finnish television breakfast show on Friday. A physics puzzler, it centers on a young boy, Alex, who likes to build things. The big question is whether “Alex” can spawn the same kind of success as the avian demoliton derby "Angry Birds."
