Jack Ryan may not be quite the international figure James Bond has become, but the analyst-turned-field agent has taken on almost as many forms over the years. After first appearing in the pages of Tom Clancy’s “The Hunt for Red October” in 1984, Alec Baldwin originated the onscreen character in the 1990 film. Then came the Harrison Ford era of “Patriot Games” and “Clear and Present Danger,” before Ben Affleck (“The Sum of All Fears”) and Chris Pine (“Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit”) stepped in for solo stints.
Now, it’s John Krasinski’s turn, and the former “Office” star is looking to leave a lasting mark in “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.”

Signs of strain in Amber Portwood‘s relationship with fiancé Matt Baier stemmed back months ago.

La La Land has tap-danced its way into Oscar history with its record-tying 14 nominations — three of which are for its music. But let’s not forget, the musical also needed to move.
That was courtesy of veteran choreographer Mandy Moore (nope not that Mandy Moore). The dance pro was tasked with making sure that lead stars Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling could convincingly hoof it up on screen while also mastering the film’s complex dance sequences — many of which were shot by director Damien Chazelle in long, single takes.

"Mad Max: Fury Road" kicked off the summer with rave reviews, and the love hasn't let up. Fans can't stop fawning over its feminist message and jaw dropping practical stunts, and one YouTuber and artist decided to combine it with another much-loved property: "Adventure Time." The result is the glorious "Madventure Time" trailer, which its creator, Egor Zhgun, said was inspired by Ryan May's mashup concept art. Drunk and dangerous Ryan Hardy is so much more fun than mature and sensible Ryan Hardy. Bravo, The Following...
This review contains spoilers.
3.11 Demons
For the bulk of this season of The Following, Ryan Hardy's been a good guy. A loyal boyfriend, a cooperative employee, a non-drinker who exercises regularly and who doesn't just start shooting at people for no good reason. Yawn. What's the fun in watching someone have a relatively stable relationship while fighting against the demons in his head? It's more fun to watch that hero become an antihero, giving into his demons, drinking secret bathroom vodka, ruining his life with his work, and having conversations with the apparition of his deceased nemesis/obsession. So yeah, Ryan Hardy is off the wagon in a big way, sleeping with waitresses, keeping vodka on the bedside table, and attempting to kill serial killers with machetes.

If "Married at First Sight"'s second season plays out the way the first season did, it will provide more evidence that initial attraction between couples is overrated at best, and destructive at worst. Yes, finding someone's appearance to be meh might be exactly what you need to for a successful relationship. If you missed its outstanding first season last summer, know that "Married at First Sight" is the kind of reality TV show that actually is "a social experiment." Its cast members are strangers who get actually, legally married minutes after seeing each other for the first time. They're matched by experts after an incredibly detailed casting process. When you think about it, this is really insane. It's crazier than going on "The Bachelor" or any other show. Of course the wedding and the show are not irreversible or inescapable, but entering into such a public and legal commitment is no reality TV joke.

At the end of The Following‘s second season, just as Edgar Allen Poe-obsessed serial killer Joe Carroll was taken back into federal custody, his FBI agent nemesis made one last vow.
“You won’t be seeing me anymore,” Ryan Hardy promised the murderer, whose capture he’d personally supervised (and whose life he’d very nearly taken).
But “anymore” — like nevermore — is a really long time. And though Kevin Bacon‘s Ryan may not actually see James Purefoy‘s Joe as the Fox drama kicks off a third season, Carroll’s influence is as palpable as an ice pick through the eye.

Blake Lively attended the Gabriela Cadena fashion show in NYC on Thursday, marking her first public appearance since welcoming her daughter in December. Last month, we got our first glimpse at the new mom in a special video she participated in to help raise awareness for sex trafficking in America. While Blake's been lying low since the birth of her first child, her husband, Ryan Reynolds, has been busy making the press rounds for The Voices. He popped up at the Sundance Film Festival and also sat down with David Letterman, though he didn't reveal any details about his baby girl, only sharing that they had given her a family name. New reports recently revealed that Blake and Ryan may have named their daughter James, though the news has yet to be confirmed.

Chris Pine seems to be a refreshingly candid interviewee – as demonstrated in a recent conversation with Moviefone while promoting Into The Woods, during which he responded to a question about changes from the source material with “I just don’t care enough.” With that in mind, his comments about his future within the Jack Ryan movie franchise are telling indeed. When asked about plans for a sequel, Pine pulled no punches.
“No. I don’t think it made enough money for that to happen. That’s one of my deep regrets – that we didn’t totally get that right. It’s a great franchise and if it’s not me then I hope it gets a fifth life at this point. It’s just great. I love the spy genre. I hope it’s done again and with a great story.”

In This Episode…
Ryan is a bundle of emotions, staring at Claire. Once he accepts that she is there, alive and well, she gets down to what she is really there for: she wants to finish this by killing Joe. Her “brilliant” plan is that they can do it together. “I am the last thing he will see coming - we can surprise him!”
Pastor Tanner is doing an interview with Carrie, and Joe watches it, growing obsessively enraged. He rails against the hypocrisy of religion. When asked point-blank by Emma, Joe tells her, “No, I don’t believe in any god. I made that mistake once before, and I won’t do it again. Religion is only good for one thing: power.”

Why reboot remains a question, but this is a smart popcorn thriller with a surprisingly sensitive performance by Chris Pine, and a wonderfully badass one by Kevin Costner. I’m “biast” (pro): love Costner; love Branagh as an actor and director; edging toward being a fan of Pine
I’m “biast” (con): don’t see the need for a reboot of this character
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
It’s no Hunt for Red October. And there was no need to reboot Tom Clancy’s signature character. (Brand recognition may be a good marketing decision, but it’s rarely a good creative one.) That said, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is a smart popcorn thriller that whips well-trod tropes into more than passably diverting movie funtimes. Ryan’s backstory has been updated for the 20-teens — now he had to learn to walk again after being...

We walk in through an innocuous doorway and we are, suddenly, in another world; there is something about Pinewood’s 007 stage which takes your breath away. We are here to watch Kenneth Branagh at work on the new Jack Ryan film, out this week and now subtitled Shadow Recruit, but this stage is pungent with industry and memory. James Bond and Jack Ryan may share some DNA despite the Atlantic separation but today they collide and there is a tangible excitement in the air.
They are shooting a fight scene, it is an intense and brutal challenge for Chris Pine, the latest Ryan, and his fellow actors but this is a necessary evil in the post-Bourne action thriller landscape. The Pinewood stage has been built into an underground sewer system and, as you’d expect, the illusion is pitch perfect. Pine is wading through the torrential river of water which,...

‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit’ review: Kenneth Branagh thriller ‘plays everything too close to the middle’ (photo: Chris Pine in ‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit’) It’s been 12 years since CIA analyst Jack Ryan made his last motion picture appearance. The movie was The Sum of All Fears, those fears being fully realized by virtue of Ben Affleck playing Ryan. If Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit proves anything, it’s that in the ensuing dozen years, CIA analysts, spies, and various black windbreaker-sporting government underlings have learned to type very fast. Indeed, there’s a lot of typing in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, a lot of button-mashing on laptops and cell phones and a lot of barking new directives in response to the button mashing on laptops and cell phones. The lightning fast retrieval of bad guy info might be a boon to the American agents entrusted with stopping a Russian plot to sink the U.

Believe it or not, but between Jack Ryan and James Bond, the two fan favourite super-spies have been in almost the same amount of movies since 1990 (five vs. seven, respectively). Still, while the Jack Ryan films have always done well at the box office, they were never quite able to turn the Tom Clancy hero into a viable franchise like his British counterpart at MI6. So, 12 years after Ben Affleck tried to reboot Ryan with "The Sum of All Fears," now it's back to square one again for Chris Pine and director Kenneth Branagh.
Based on the popular series of Clancy novels, but not focusing on one story in particular, "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit" offers up another origin tale for the CIA analyst turned reluctant action hero. After enlisting with the Marines following 9/11, Ryan (Pine) is first recruited by the CIA to go undercover on Wall Street, eventually joining them...

This week, on Parenthood: Drew has a terrible roommate, Sarah graduates to people, and Aida finally stops crying (temporarily)
One of the greatest obstacles in relationships, according to popular wisdom, is lack of communication. It doesn’t matter what kind, failing to listen to what someone is saying, verbally or nonverbally, or make yourself heard in return are surefire ways to allow a friendship, business partnership, or marriage dissolve. There’s always drama to be found in people’s inability to communicate, for one reason or another (horror movies would be over much faster if everyone had cell reception, for example), and yet very few TV shows seem particularly interested in exploring this or in prioritizing open, honest discourse among their characters. As demonstrated this week, Parenthood is...

As more details emerge about Gia’s final days before her untimely death on August 14, sources close to the young beauty are coming forward to say her relationship troubles with Ryan may have sent her over the edge.
Gia Allemand, 29, was eager to settle down and start a family with her NBA star boyfriend, Ryan Anderson, 25, but apparently he didn’t feel the same way. As a result, the couple were fighting nonstop, which may have played a role in her tragic suicide attempt on August 12.

“Shame” is definitely Wilfred at its most episodic, providing a decent narrative for a stand-alone episode, relying on the formula established in Season 1 with Ryan learning a lesson the hard way through whatever machinations Wilfred has concocted. The added benefit of having Kristen Schaal a part of the proceedings helped bump “Shame” up from formulaic to potentially invaluable in terms of Ryan’s emotional journey. In terms of comedy, this was a very silly affair bordering on gross-out humor. It’s not a form of comedy I particularly like, but the message that accompanies it was worthwhile.
In a nutshell, Wilfred goes behind Ryan’s back and invites Schaal’s Anne to live in the upstairs bedroom and pay rent, which Ryan desperately in order to pay off his mortgage. But Ryan had someone in mind that was more like himself; clean and tidy and with a normal job. Anne is hardly a “normal” person.

‘Comfort’ is a largely standalone episode compared to the premiere’s heavy mythology. They don’t pick up on any of the threads leftover from the previous episode, like the drawing or Ryan seeing Stinky as a lookalike Wilfred (albeit one with a different personality). Instead, they offer up a layered episode that has a lot going on but seem to feel overstuffed. They throw in new people, religion and death into an ever spinning cocktail.
They start changing a little bit of things here and there. For instance, they open up Ryan’s world a little bit in this episode by giving him a friend in Mailman Bob. It’s a good device because all we usually see of Ryan’s world is Jenna and his family, they hadn’t really given Ryan a friend since the show began,...

Two new featurettes have arrived for Fox's "The Following," one of which looks "Inside" last night's Episode 1.10, "Guilt," while the other goes behind the scenes of the scoring of Episode 1.08, "Welcome Home."
The first video looks at the composition of an operatic, melodic, epic piece of music suitable for a death scene.
As a reminder, in Episode 1.08 Joey Matthews was still missing, and with the search for Joe Carroll escalating, the FBI brought in Nick Donovan to run lead on the case, much to Ryan and Parker’s dismay. Meanwhile, a follower from the past met up with Joe Carroll, and their plans had a life-threatening result.

"The Following." The show both intrigues and aggravates me and not necessarily in that order. Still, it's pretty good for a TV thriller and the loonies are appropriately nutso so, yeah, we'll keep watching. Check out this new clip from next week's Episode 1.10, entitled "Guilt"!

It's time to find out about Ryan's past on "Castle." The cheerful, straight-laced, happily married detective was once a darker guy, and photos and spoilers from "The Wild Rover" help to explain why.
In the episode, a man is found dead in the industrial cake mixer used in a cupcake shop. Somehow, this murder connects to an Irish gang on Staten Island and to a bar owner named Siobhan O'Doul (guest star Cara Buono).
What does any of this have to do with Ryan (Seamus Dever)? It seems that, back in the day, Ryan worked undercover as a narcotics detective. He has a past that connects him both to the gang and to Siobhan. In order to solve the murder, Ryan has to risk his life and his marriage by going back undercover.
As you might suspect, Ryan's past with Siobhan is a romantic one. "He's got an old girlfriend.

Last Resort, Season 1, Episode 13: “Controlled Flight into Terrain”
Written by Karl Gajdusek and David Wiener
Directed by Michael Offer
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on ABC
It’s never easy to say goodbye to a show, especially one that has run for a long time, allowing the audience to build an emotional attachment with the characters and an investment in the story. But amidst the end of a major science fiction show last week, and a major comedy next week, a new show wraps up its run this week, as Last Resort, one of the first shows to get the axe once cancellations began rolling in, bid adieu with the last of its 13 episodes serving as both the season and the series finale. Last Resort is a show that began with a lot of promise, and in its short run, managed to develop a range of complex characters and...

Despite the decent ratings for Parenthood Season 4 and the generally good press it receives, it's clear Jason Katims doesn't have high hopes for a season 5 pickup.
"Because You're My Sister" was about as close to a series finale as you could get without actually cancelling the show.
Because of the swiftness of pace and resolution-packed hour, there were some incredible scenes mixed with some that felt a bit rushed, as if giving fans closure to the Braverman family saga was more important than telling stories in the way we have become accustomed to: with care and precision.
The same could be said for the abortion story line between Drew and Amy on "Small Victories."
It seems now, looking back, that it was squished into the season for a specific purpose outside of anything to do with the tale of the Bravermans. Sarah was torn between two lovers and excited for...

For Ryan Shay (Parker Young), life will never be the same as he knew it. Before the holiday break, Ryan found out that his parents Sheila (Ana Gasteyer) and Fred (Chris Parnell) had adopted him and Ryan’s reaction was understandably strong. In fact, he had a major freak-out attack, which led him to test what was real around him by kicking various street posts, finally forcing him to as if he were running from a truth he could not bear. Ryan’s life will never be the same. He had been living comfortably content as a Shay, knowing who his parents were and that he was related to his sister Lisa (Allie Grant). But once one finds out that the family they thought was theirs is actually not, reality seems to shift. Ryan began to doubt his own reality and realness. It made perfect sense. But life should not...

Ryan Gosling left an La breakfast spot on Friday toting a backpack and sporting sunglasses, kicking off another weekend in his already busy month. Aside from preparing for the January release of Gangster Squad and focusing on his first directorial effort, How to Catch a Monster, Ryan is also working on the latest Terrence Malick film. Very little information about the plot has been released by the famously tight-lipped director, but Ryan was spotted filming scenes with Rooney Mara in Texas this Fall. Ryan's hectic schedule has him balancing his work life and his relationship with Eva Mendes, but the couple will have a chance to mix business with pleasure come 2013.
