It’s been a rough time to be a Scooby-Doo fan lately. When David Zaslav became CEO of Warner Bros., he swooped in and cancelled not just Batgirl and Coyote vs. Acme, but also three separate Scooby-Doo projects: Scoob! Holiday Haunt, Scooby-Doo! and the Haunted High Rise, and Scooby-Doo! and the Mystery Pups. But now there’s a Rumor going around that there’s a new Scooby-Doo project in the works… and it appears that this one would be a crossover between characters from the Scooby-Doo franchise and characters from the Gremlins franchise. The title page of a script called Scooby-Doo! Gremlins Getaway recently appeared online, with the title written in a mixture of Scooby-Doo and Gremlins fonts.
We can’t say for sure that Scooby-Doo! Gremlins Getaway is happening, but it would make sense. Scooby-Doo has had crossovers with a lot of other franchises and characters throughout the years – Batman,...

Apple TV+’s official trailer for season three of Ted Lasso is sweet and just all-around awesome. There’s cheering and laughing, backed by The Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” for the first minute and 20ish seconds. Jason Sudeikis returns as Ted Lasso, Hannah Waddingham is back as Rebecca Welton, Brett Goldstein returns as Roy Kent, and Jeremy Swift is back as Higgins. Our favorite underdogs are back, as Apple TV+ released a new trailer Monday for “Ted Lasso” Season 3 showing fan-favorite Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) stepping up as assistant coach when Nate (Nick Mohammed) switches over to a rival team.
With the third installment of the Emmy-winning comedy, which will debut on Apple TV+ March 15, AFC Richmond takes a shot at the Premier League, which is betting on its last-place finish.
Following its record-breaking, back-to-back Emmy wins for its freshman and sophomore seasons, “Ted Lasso” returns with 12 weekly episodes centering on the newly-promoted Greyhounds. The team must reckon with the ridicule that comes with media predictions that widely peg them as last in the League, along with Nate’s contentious departure to work for Rupert (Anthony Head) at West Ham United.

“Ted Lasso” is warming up for the big match. The Apple TV+ hit is returning for its third season in less than a month, and the full official trailer for the upcoming season has been released by the streamer.
Based (very) loosely on a series of 2013 NBC Sports ads promoting the channel’s coverage of Britain’s Premier League, “Ted Lasso” stars Jason Sudeikis as the title character, a corny but unfailingly kindhearted college American Football coach who gets the opportunity to coach the middling AFC Richmond association football team in England. Although initially mocked by the press and distrusted by the team, Ted’s compassionate approach to coaching slowly wins them over, and he and the club’s owner Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) become determined to win the league by any means necessary.

America’s favorite (fictional) Premier League team, AFC Richmond, is headed back to the pitch in a matter of weeks.
Apple TV+ has set a March 15 premiere date for season three of Ted Lasso. The two-time Emmy winner for best comedy series will roll out its 12-episode season weekly starting then — which puts its finale at May 31, the last day of eligibility for Emmy consideration this year. “Ted Lasso” Season 3, which will return to Apple TV+ in spring 2023, has unveiled its first-look image, which sees Nathan (Nick Mohammed) and Ted (Jason Sudeikis) going head-to-head.
While Ted is shown smiling, Nathan seems austere and focused. While plot details for the junior installment are being kept under wraps, the photo seems to imply that the tension between Ted and Nathan will continue to evolve.

“Succession” entered these awards with a leading 25 nominations, the most of any program in any genre. “Ted Lasso” was the top comedy with 20, tied with the leading limited series contender “The White Lotus.” But the lion’s share of categories were already decided at the Creative Arts Awards that took place over two ceremonies on September 3 and 4.
“Ted Lasso” was actually the biggest loser at those kudos going 0-10. It can still rebound at tonight’s main ceremony and repeat as Best Comedy Series, but that was a major hit, especially the Best Casting loss to “Abbott Elementary.

Joining her in a room just off the church sanctuary are Keeley Jones (Juno Temple), Rebecca’s mother, Deborah (Emmy-nominated guest actress Harriet Walter), longtime friend Sassy (Ellie Taylor) and Sassy’s teenage daughter, Nora (Kiki May). While Rebecca and her mom are grieving, the friends who have joined them bring a bit of levity to a sad scene — especially when the ladies learn Rebecca has a new, secret boyfriend.
Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso
Jane Becker says this scene was exciting to write, mostly because of its novelty. “I wanted a cool [moment] where a bunch of gals have a really fun scene together, which is something you don’t see a lot,” she says, noting how atypical it is of the male-centric Ted Lasso and also of “television in general.

The Ted Lasso episode “No Weddings and a Funeral” is nominated for Outstanding Writing and Directing Emmys specifically this season. It takes place at the funeral of Rebecca’s (Hannah Waddingham) father and offers Emmy nominee Waddingham a bravura vehicle.
Waddingham described the monumental episode during a panel for the Apple TV+ series at Deadline’s Contenders Television: The Nominees awards-season event, beginning with Dame Harriet Walter playing her mother.

“Even though I had been in this show for a year and set up who Rebecca was and was quite comfortable in that, it rocked me to have her come in because I think so highly of her,” Waddingham said. “She and I had just a tunnel through to each other.”
Waddingham also considered the funeral episode monumental because it revealed why Rebecca has difficulties in relationships with men: It stems from her father.

The writing team of “Hacks” is looking to go two-for-two in the Best Comedy Writing category, but will now have to face almost a brand new slew of competition as shows like “Barry” and “What We Do In The Shadows” are back after a hiatus, as well as pilot episodes from “Only Murders In The Building” and “Abbott Elementary.” “Ted Lasso” is also back in this category looking for a rematch with “Hacks” after being defeated last year.
Here are Gold Derby’s current Best Comedy Writing Emmy 2022 racetrack odds:

A number of stars doing double- and triple-duty on series have been rewarded for their off-camera work with writing or directing Emmy nominations this year, notably “Ozark’s” Jason Bateman, “Abbott Elementary’s” Quinta Brunson, “Barry’s” Bill Hader and “Only Murders in the Building’s” Steve Martin.
Meanwhile, indie film helmers are finding a warm welcome, with drama series directing noms going to Karyn Kusama for the pilot of Showtime’s “Yellowjackets,” Lorene Scafaria for the “Succession” episode “Too Much Birthday” and Cathy Yan for “The Disruption” installment of “Succession.”
Oscar winner Peter Jackson may add another trophy to his case. He earned a directing nomination for documentary/nonfiction program for his work on Disney+’s Beatles docuseries “Get Back.” Ben Stiller is up for Apple TV+ drama “Severance” and Bo Burnham is back with a nom for directing Jerrod Carmichael’s HBO standup special “Rothaniel.” Amy Poehler’s...

Ted Lasso‘s stars have once again played a blinder at the Emmy nominations — to borrow a phrase from AFC Richmond’s home city of London. This time the love has been shared around even further.
The second season of Apple TV+’s smash comedy matched its record-breaking 2021 haul to secure 20 nominations, and stars Jason Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Hannah Waddingham, Nick Mohammed, Juno Temple, Sarah Niles, Toheeb Jimoh, Harriet Walter, James Lance and Sam Richardson all picked up acting nods.
“When I saw Toheeb, Sarah, James and Harriet had been nominated I genuinely burst into tears,” said Waddingham, who plays Rebecca Welton, AFC Richmond owner, and is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series. “For us to be all drawn up like this is magical.”
Given that the show is into its third season (episode nine of 12 just wrapped), Waddingham said the cast is “in shock” at the huge haul,...

The 2022 Emmys ballot for Best Comedy Writing has 195 episode submissions, which means there will be seven nominees. As a reminder, last year’s winner was the pilot of “Hacks”, beating out the pilots of “The Flight Attendant” (Steve Yockey), “Girls5Eva” (Meredith Scardino) and “Ted Lasso”, along with the “PEN15” episode “Play” (Maya Erskine) and the “Ted Lasso”episode “Make Rebecca Great Again”.
Last year, an argument could be made that “Hacks” prevailed due to “Ted Lasso” having two episodes in the category and splitting its own votes. This scenario could repeat as the former only entered its season finale “The One, The Only” by the same three writing champs and “Ted Lasso” submitted both “Rainbow” (Bill Wrubel) and “No Weddings and a Funeral” (Jane Becker).

Exclusive: Jodi Balfour (For All Mankind) has been tapped for a major recurring role on Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso. She is the first known cast addition for the upcoming third season of the Emmy-winning comedy series.
Balfour will play Jack, a charming venture capitalist. In addition to Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso, she joins the returning series regular ensemble cast including Hannah Waddingham, Brendan Hunt, Jeremy Swift, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Phil Dunster and Nick Mohammed.
Developed for television by Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Joe Kelly and Brendan Hunt, the series stars Sudeikis as Ted Lasso, a small-time college football coach from Kansas hired to coach a professional soccer team in England, despite having no experience coaching soccer. The show’s second season ended with a shocking twist involving Mohammed’s Assistant Coach character Nate.

You made it through the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the Directors Guild Awards, and the Producers Guild Awards, too. The wait for the Oscars is almost over, but one more major guild had yet to give out its trophies before the Academy Awards. Tonight, Hollywood’s top writers came together for the Writers Guild of America Awards, which honored the finest achievements in film and television writing.
On the film side, the nominees were actually quite different from what you’ll see at the Oscars next week. In the Original Screenplay category, “Licorice Pizza,” “Don’t Look Up,” and “King Richard” were still nominated, but “Belfast” and “The Worst Person in the World” were replaced with “Being the Ricardos.” The Adapted Screenplay category was even more distinct, with only two Oscar contenders (“Dune” and “Coda”) nominated.

Sunday’s 74th Writers Guild of America Awards will wrap up the guild season, along with the American Society of Cinematographers Awards. Will the winners be an Oscar preview?
“Licorice Pizza,” written by Paul Thomas Anderson, and “Coda,” by Sian Heder, are favored to win Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay, respectively. However, they are not facing off against many of their Oscar rivals as the WGA’s rules have rendered several scripts ineligible, including Oscar nominees “Belfast” and “The Worst Person in the World” in original, and “Drive My Car,” “The Lost Daughter” and “The Power of the Dog” in adapted. But if they both prevail, they will have bagged the two top industry prizes as they won at BAFTA last weekend right in the middle of final Oscar voting (it ends Tuesday).

“Nomadland” look home the top film prize at the 2021 Producers Guild Awards Wednesday, bringing it closer to a Best Picture win. The winner of the PGA Awards’ top prize has historically been a strong indicator of which film will will go on to win the Best Picture Oscar. Since 1989, the PGA winner has matched up with the top Oscar 21 out of 31 times. It happened in 2018 with “Green Book,” but not last year: “1917” won at the 2020 PGAs, but the Academy Award for Best Picture went to “Parasite.”
This year, 10 movies competed for the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures (see the full list of nominees and winners below). Seven 2021 PGA nominees for the top prize are also 2021 Oscar Best Picture nominees: “Judas and the Black Messiah,” “Mank,” “Minari,” “Nomadland,” “Promising Young Woman,” “Sound Of Metal,” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7.”

Before the Indie Spirits, before the Oscars, there are the guilds, and as Hollywood inches its way through a protracted awards season, it’s up to each voting body to dole out their own accolades. On Sunday night, it was time for the writers to shine, as the Writers Guild of America presented their awards for film, television, news, and more, all voted on by fellow writers. For writers, by writers!
As IndieWire’s own Anne Thompson has noted, the WGA’s film nominees are less predictive than an indication of what’s losing and gaining heat, from the missing early 2020 releases “I’m Thinking of Ending Things,” “The King of Staten Island,” and “Da 5 Bloods,” to such surging movies as “Judas and the Black Messiah,” “Sound of Metal,” and “Promising Young Woman,” all of which recently earned Best Picture nods from the Academy.

The Writers Guild of America Awards were handed during a virtual ceremony on Sunday, March 21. But don’t base your Oscar predictions on these kudos. Every year a slew of Oscar-nominated scripts are deemed ineligible for consideration here due to guild guidelines. Indeed, over the past 12 years only 80 of the Writers Guild of America Awards nominees have numbered among the 120 screenplays that reaped Academy Awards bids. Scroll down for the 2021 Writers Guild of America Awards winners list.
Our odds predict that “Nomadland” will win Best Adapted Screenplay winner at the Oscars but it was not allowed to compete at the WGA Awards. Neither was another Oscar contender in that category: “The Father.” The guild did match the academy three-for-five in this category, with “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” “One Night in Miami” and “The White Tiger” competing at both. “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and “News of the World” round out the guild nominees.

“Rick and Morty” co-showrunner Dan Harmon has harsh words for the people harassing his show’s female writers: “I’ve made no bones about the fact that I loathe these people.” In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Harmon responded to online backlash against writers Jane Becker and Jessica Gao, who were credited on the episodes “Rickmancing the Stone” and “Pickle Rick.” The women have been harassed on Twitter and had their personal information put online (a harassment practice known as “doxxing”). A Reddit thread, which lays out the events, said that the two have been the subject of complaints and abuse due in part.

“Rick and Morty” co-creator Dan Harmon spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the incident, calling it “disgusting” and thoroughly denouncing anyone and everyone involved: “It’s offensive to me as someone who was born male and white, and still works way harder than them, that there’s some white male [fan out there] trying to further some creepy agenda by ‘protecting’ my work.”
