I have been a fan of Charles Band’s company Full Moon since I was a kid, and I have also been a fan of drive-in critic and movie host Joe Bob Briggs since I was a kid. So it’s fun to see those worlds colliding in the trailer for an upcoming Full Moon release, the goofball comedy Barbie & Kendra Crash Joe Bob’s Drive-In Jamboree! Streaming services are the bane of my existence. It’s 2024 and there are so many options that it makes my head spin. Netflix, Hulu, Disney Plus, Paramount Plus, Prime Video, Peacock cover the main streamers but that’s not counting the niches. Like old cartoons? Check out Boomerang. Like anime? Then Crunchyroll is for you. But what about horror fans? Sure, Hulu has its “Into the Dark” label and Netflix is always releasing something horror-related (though I question the quality.) And the horror genre features multiple options with Screambox, Arrow Player, Full Moon Features, and even Tubi. But the subject of today’s spotlight is the best of them all, with a great Ui and wonderful selection of films, nothing can compete with Shudder.

Fifty-one years ago, director Tobe Hooper and his cast and crew spent a blisteringly hot Texas summer working to bring us one of the greatest horror films ever made, the 1974 classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (watch it Here)… and to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the release of the film, legendary drive-in critic and movie host Joe Bob Briggs is writing a book about the making of it!
During an interview on the Mistress Harley podcast (note: that link is for adults only), Joe Bob revealed, “I have just signed a contract with Dark Horse, which is mostly known for their comics, but they also do books. (With Dark Horse) I’m gonna do two books: we’re gonna reprint Joe Bob Goes to the Drive-In, which is my original reviews … and then we’re gonna do a 50th anniversary book that’s the entire back story of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

The Phantom of the Opera is sometimes considered one of the Universal Monsters. I get it. From the 1925 version that gave us one of the most infamous unmasking sequences ever courtesy of the great Lon Chaney Sr., through the Hammer iteration with Herbert Lom, all the way up to the 2004 film that gave a lot of us our intro to Gerard Butler. Speaking of that movie, its inspiration and reason for its existence was the Andrew Lloyd Weber musical that premiered in October of 1986 and has had runs all the way through as recently as 2021. 1989 was the beginning of its U.S. tour and we got not one but Two Phantom movies that year. Phantom of the Mall: Eric’s Revenge is cheesy and may just be more well known due to our friend Joe Bob featuring it on the Last Drive In recently. Here in the JoBlo Horror kitchen today...

Shudder announced a while back that they had renewed The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs for a supersized sixth season that will make sure legendary drive-in critic and movie host Joe Bob will be an even more consistent presence on the streaming service throughout the year. The season 6 action kicked off with a special (A Tribute to Roger Corman) that aired last Friday, and on March 29th the season will really get rolling with its new approach. In the previous seasons, Joe Bob would host double features on a weekly basis. This time, episodes will air every other Friday night, and instead of the usual double features, Joe Bob will be presenting “single titles and surprises”. Single titles every other Friday is how Shudder intends to spread the episodes out over a longer period of the year. In anticipation of this new season of blood, breasts, and beasts, JoBlo...

Hey everybody, have you heard the news? Joe Bob is back in town!
The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs has returned for its sixth season on Shudder. While the show’s format has been slightly revised — adopting a new biweekly schedule with one film instead of a double feature — the beloved horror host’s approach is much the same.
“It didn’t really change anything,” Briggs tells Bloody Disgusting. “We were crowding all of our movies into 10 weeks once a year and then having specials, and we found that people would rather have more weeks. It’s actually more movies than we had before.
“And some of the people on the East coast fall asleep in the second movie,” he laughs. “It’s about a five-hour show when it’s a double feature because we talk so much. Also, it’s hard to get thematic double features every single time.

Full Moon Features is gearing up to go into production on their “crazy, candy-colored” comedy Barbenheimer, which was inspired by the portmanteau we all saw a thousand times last summer, as movie-goers headed out for double features of Barbie and Oppenheimer. This episode of the Horror TV Shows We Miss video series was Written and Narrated by Niki Minter, Edited by Lance Vlcek, Produced by John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Horror for Christmas? Yes, I’m here to holly your jolly, deck your halls, and sacrifice your children to Krampus. What a merry holiday season indeed! Since our October vid focused on Halloween Specials, I figured the Spooky Christmas crossovers deserved some attention as well.
As a kid, my family did have Christmas watching traditions like most. We did Scrooged, A Christmas Story, Frosty, Charlie Brown, Garfield, Home Alone, Gremlins (Ahhhh it’s controversial), Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands…and my mom may have snuck in Black Christmas. She was and is a fan of Holiday-based Horror. Her favorite being My Bloody Valentine. All of this is totally normal. So, as you can probably guess, the tradition has continued.

Full Moon founder Charles Band is one of my heroes, and another one of my heroes is drive-in critic and movie host Joe Bob Briggs. Those two legends collided last weekend, as Band’s marriage to actress Robin Sydney was officiated by Joe Bob!

Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy will return in an upcoming sixth season of their hit Shudder series “The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs,” Deadline has exclusively reported today.
The even better news? It’ll be a “super-sized” season! Deadline explains, “The new season will see Briggs host and dissect more than 30 films, which is a new record.”
Additionally, “The world’s foremost drive-in movie critic, Briggs will next be back for two Halloween-themed specials in October, a holiday special in December, and a Valentine’s Day special in February, before transitioning to a new series format in March 2024.”
What is this “new format,” you ask? Deadline notes that “The Last Drive-In” will spotlight one movie every other Friday night, versus the double features we’ve become accustomed to.
“As everyone knows, you should never invite me into your home, because I always show up,” Briggs jokes to Deadline. “Shudder...

A couple years ago, the Shudder and AMC+ streaming services aired a special episode of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs, hosted by legendary movie host / drive-in critic Joe Bob Briggs, where Joe Bob showed the first two episodes of The Walking Dead and interviewed the show’s executive producer and special effects makeup supervisor/designer Greg Nicotero. Today, June 6, 2023, is National Drive-in Day, and this year’s celebration is particularly special because today also marks the 90th anniversary of drive-in theaters.
The drive-in theatre was invented by Richard Hollingshead, who opened the first one in Camden, New Jersey on June 6, 1933. The popularity of drive-ins grew, and by the mid 1950s there were more than 4,000 drive-ins in the United States. The magic of the drive-in experience has had a profound and ever-lasting impact on American culture.
On their 90th Anniversary, drive-in theatres are once again thriving. The modern drive-in theatre combines the nostalgic outdoor movie-going experience with modern state of the art projection and sound technology, plus the largest screens in the country. Drive-ins are still a wonderful value, providing a full evening’s worth of entertainment. With about 300 drive-in theatres across the country, chances are good there is one near you.

While the switch to digital projection threatened to make the drive-in experience extinct, I'm so happy to see that drive-ins have had a resurgence, providing an outdoor communal experience when so many people were staying socially distant, and it's been a great opportunity for drive-in operators to offer retro programming and all-night horror movie marathons. We now have an all-new generation of drive-in horror moviegoers, who seek out unique programming and a chance to see their favorite cult films on the massive outdoor screen.

There’s a gold standard that horror hosts are held to. The icons become as popular as the movies that they show. Zacherley, Elvira, and Vampira are some of the names that come to mind, all of them inherently macabre in their own way. Most horror hosts have something ooky and spooky about them. And then there’s the one and only Joe Bob Briggs. Joe Bob is his own sort of creature, a Drive In Cowboy who loves blood, breasts, and beasts… and going on long, amazing rants about all the things he has a problem with in the world.

On January 4, 1991, comedian/B-movie actress Rhonda Shear took over as the host of the Friday night edition of USA Up All Night, a hosted movie show that aired on the USA Network on Friday and Saturday nights. (The late comedian Gilbert Gottfried hosted the Saturday night edition.) More than twenty years have gone by since USA Up All Night stopped airing in February of 1998… but the dear departed show is getting a follow-up in the form of a comic book called Up All Night with Rhonda Shear, which is officially licensed and independently produced.
Copies of the first issue of Up All Night with Rhonda Shear can be purchased through this IndieGogo campaign… and this one features a crossover between Rhonda and her fellow movie hosts Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy the Mail Girl, from the Shudder series The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs!
