In the spring of 2020, two films starring Daniel Radcliffe came out, almost back-to-back.
In Escape From Pretoria, he played Tim Jenkin, the real-life anti-apartheid activist and former political prisoner who in 1978 was part of a daring and successful breakout — using secretly made wooden keys — from a South African jail.
In Guns Akimbo, he played Miles, a computer programmer in a bonkers near-future who wakes up one morning to find that a criminal kingpin’s gang of henchmen — including a masked guy called Fuckface — had bloodily bolted guns onto each of his hands.
For those who had been keeping an eye on Radcliffe’s post-Harry Potter career, this quick-fire double of taut historical prison thriller and insane action-comedy sci-fi felt like the perfect summary as he neared almost a decade since leaving one of the world’s most successful movie franchises.

Everyone involved in the Arrowverse has kept stressing that we weren’t ready for “Crisis On Infinite Earths,” and they were right. It turned out that the destruction of Argo City was a low-key warm up to the scale of death and devastation it had waiting for us, and even though billions of lives were lost as Earth-38 was obliterated by the wave of antimatter, it’s one death in particular that has fans in uproar.
Although it was pretty much a given that Oliver was going to die at some point, to have him do so at the end of the crossover’s first hour truly hammered home the stakes at play. Viewers were predictably devastated, and took to social media to express the intensity of their reactions.

Academy Award winner and longtime stage actress Maggie Smith has taken on many fulfilling roles over the years, although she wouldn’t include her work in Downton Abbey or the Harry Potter films among them.
Smith, who played schoolmistress Minerva McGonagall in the boy-wizard adventures and Dowager Countess Violet Crawley in the period drama told the U.K.’s Evening Standard she didn’t find her roles in the two franchises creatively challenging.
“I am deeply grateful for the work in Potter and indeed Downton but it wasn’t what you’d call satisfying. I didn’t really feel I was acting in those things,” Smith said.
The 84-year-old actress added that she and the late Alan Rickman, who played Professor Severus Snape, used to joke that their work on the Potter movies was made up entirely of reaction shots. Still, Smith said there was a upside to being in the...

It's been eight years since the final Harry Potter film hit theaters, and the friendships that formed are still going strong. Franchise creator J.K. Rowling celebrated her 54th birthday on July 31, which prompted a series of sweet celebratory messages on social media, including one from Gryffindor gal Emma Watson.
Emma paid tribute to J.K. with a throwback photo from a past Halloween party. Dressed as Wonder Woman and a morphed monster, Emma and J.K. are shown posing together with Emma's former costar Evanna Lynch. "Sexy and scary!

When I first saw the trailer for Yesterday, I found the premise; a struggling musician takes advantage of a world where Beatles songs suddenly no longer exist, irresistible, but wondered if that gimmick could sustain itself for two hours. Playing like a warmhearted Twilight Zone episode, Yesterday is a likable, hummable enough movie that coasts on clever charm and goodwill for quite a while, but eventually takes a long and winding road to precious whimsy and contrived rom-com.

We have a fun second trailer for Late Night, starring Emma Thompson as an aging late night talk show host who is losing touch with her audience, and Mindy Kaling, a new staff writer on her show who may be her last shot at relevance with a young and diverse audience. The movie premiered at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to fantastic reviews, and I am pretty excited for it. It looks like it will be really funny and well-acted.
Thompson and Kaling are joined in the cast by John Lithgow (3rd Rock From the Sun), Ike Barinholtz (Blockers), Hugh Dancy (The Path), Max Casella (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Paul Walter Hauser (Cobra Kai), Denis O'Hare (American Horror Story), Reid Scott (Veep), and Amy Ryan (The Office).
Enjoy the trailer below and watch Late Night when it hits theaters on June 7th.

Standards are pretty high for horror movies in 2019. Despite what some mainstream movie websites might tell you, there have been many, many, great horrors in the last five years. Every year there seems to be more original and fantastic films. So it’s great to watch something like Look Away with no idea what it is about and no expectations; because more often than not, I’m impressed.
Look Away is one of those clever films that clearly has plenty of influences and it wears those influences on its sleeve but still manages to feel very fresh. Those influences mainly coming of age movies, from Carrie to Ginger Snaps to Let The Right One In – you can probably see the link. There...

The honeymoon is over for newlyweds Akiko and Masakazu Isshiki, who’ve just moved into his family home in the quiet town of Kamakura. While her husband, an author of fantastic fiction, struggles with writers block, Akiko has to come to terms with the rough spots in a marriage – the misunderstandings, the doubts, her husbands obsessive toy-train hobby. And then there are the peculiarities of Kamakura, which, as Masakazu remarks offhandedly, has been a magnet for mystical energy for millennia. Ghosts, goblins, even a charming local death god amble through its streets, and what’s more, her husband moonlights as a “spectral investigator” for the local police! For such a sleepy little town, there are certainly a lot of strange things going on.

Announcing very possibly the first clean sales sweep on one of the major new titles brought onto the market at Cannes, Studiocanal, part of Vivendi’s Canal Plus Group, sold out worldwide on the David Heyman-produced “The Secret Garden.”
Studiocanal’s notably all-women sales team, overseen by distribution chief Anna Marsh and headed by international sales chief Anne Chérel, has also licensed “The Lost Prince,” to be directed by Academy Award winning Michel Hazanavicius (“The Artist”), to near all the world outside the U.S.
The sales, compounded by bullish first results on Studiocanal’s Romain Gavras’ “The World is Yours,” beg the question as to the possible depth of Cannes’ pre-sales market. This year’s market buzz has, to date at least, centered very largely on a narrow band of high-profile titles backed by standout director, star or producer talent.

Marvel Television has a great thing going on with their Netflix shows. Say what you will about their movies (which are great), but the stuff they’re achieving on the streaming service is fantastic. While the content doesn’t necessarily make for the biggest, most bombastic story, it brings the characters to life in a way even the movies can’t. At the end of the day, we’re able to relate to these characters far more than we could in the movies. That’s no slight against the movies, but telling a story in 2 hours and 13 is a vastly different prospect, and each medium is bound to have its strengths and weaknesses.
But like the Marvel movies, the studio plans to join together our four street-level heroes in the limited TV event series, The Defenders. Like The Avengers before it, it will be the first...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has gotten to the point that with each passing film, I wonder if it'll be the one to topple the proverbial house of cards. Sure, not every single one of their movies has been a winner -- I maintain that Thor: The Dark World is terrible, and Iron Man 3 is better when you try not to think of it as a Marvel film -- but there hasn't been a film that's broken the world. Given that we have characters spanning galaxies, that's a definite possibility.
Their next film, Doctor Strange threatened to break the universe more than any other. Yes, it could be seen as any other standard run-of-the-mill standalone origin story, but the film is anything but. It's set in a world that's been populated for the past eight years, and in those eight years, rules have been established that cannot so easily be tossed aside.

A flood of first reaction reviews for Marvel's Doctor Strange has hit the internet, and it sounds like Marvel fans are in for something pretty incredible! There is a lot of praise for the crazy psychedelic visual effects, the characters, the uniqueness of the film and how it brings something fresh to the McU. You can read through the reviews below. They've definitely managed to get me even more pumped up about seeing this movie! I didn't think that was possible, but with everyone talking about how awesome it is, how can I not be more excited?!
It has also been confirmed that there will be two post-credits scenes teasing the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
