Review of Maine Pyar Kiya

1/10
unadulterated tripe
16 December 1998
The main problem with the movie is that the main characters all appear to be mentally retarded. The director's attempts at creating poignant situations (e.g. Khan's "rupee notes" scene, Nath's "pen gift" scene and many others) are so incredibly unsubtle and stupid that it takes a moment or two for one to realise that it is not a satire that is being attempted! Indeed, the only spots in the film that aren't predictable are the ones that violently insult the viewer's intelligence. The heroine's "sweetness" is cloying at best. The movie's music was a huge hit, no doubt contributing to its success.
